Yes, the junk filter is actually a (hidden) rule like any other that’s always evaluated last, and hence, is never applied to messages already moved to other mailboxes by any of your own rules.
If that’s not what you want, you can go to Preferences > Junk Mail > Advanced, take note of how the junk filter rule is defined (you can make a screen shot of it), set up a custom rule that does exactly the same, and place it above the other rules.

  • Connect to Apple TV through iphone hotspot.

My inlaws have a property where they have no land line/Adsl.  They use their hotspot to connect to the internet.  I was going to try to set up ATV for them and wanted to know if the iphone hotspot would suffice. Or if I could connect the iphone to a router to use the internet from it on a network.  I have tryed connection to my home network without internet and the ATV looses a lot of its functionality if it works at all.
    Thanks

Realistically there's no harm in trying and just seeing how far you get.
The need for internet to play DRM protected matreial from a computer on teh LAN is a real annoyance - I tend to use a Mac Mini with HDMI out these days as it doesn't need that internet connection for pre-purchased material (it does for rentals to set the clock ticking).
I've used some convoluted methods to use Netflix at a holiday cottage without broadband (Mifi 3G device connected to a Macbook via USB, sharing the internet connection over wifi or ethernet (via mains networking powerline sockets)).

  • One mail client's outgoing messages flagged as SPAM

    Hi again,
I have a new problem that has cropped up. Our company is multi-location. 8 of our locations are able to relay outgoing mail through our mail server with no problems whatsoever. Since upgrading clamav, amavisd-new and spamassassin (thanks topicdesk.com!), I have one remote client for whom every outgoing message is flagged as Spam by spamassassin and bounced. Here is the output from our mail server:

The only major difference in this location is that it's running a new Intel iMac with Snow Leopard. All the other clients are PPC's with Leopard.

As it turns out, the problem was with the router configuration. Instead of having the computer on a private network behind the router, the computer was given the public IP address. I'm not sure how this relates to how the message and its header are interpreted by spamassassin, but reconfiguring the network and using NAT to allow incoming traffic to the computer seems to have resolved the problem.
I would love for someone who knows about this stuff to respond, although technically my problem is resolved.

My Mac has stopped receiving mail. I have a mac.com address. Mail is still coming through to my iphone and my wife's ipad but nothing is coming through to my imac.I have mail from half an hour ago on the phone but nothing newer than 18 Feb on the mac. Everythng was working fine until recently and I have not touched any settings! Can anyone help?

So I tried something else recently and it seems to have fixed the issue. My mail is now getting new mail again and refreshing after waking from sleep without having to restart mail. Give it a try and hopefully it will help you too.
First, make sure your Mailbox List is visible (Shift + Control + M). Then select all of your inboxes, mailboxes, and folders (not just the root folder for nested folders, make sure to select them all). Then under the "Mailbox" menu, select "Rebuild."
It may take a while to rebuild them all if you have a lot, but like I said it seems to have done the trick for me. I hope that proves to be more of a long-term solution.

Question about personal hotspot. I know I can share GSM / 3G but I would like to know if my iPhone is connected to a wifi can I also share that wifi collection, through personal hotspot? And if so can it be through wifi or does it have to be Bluetooth or USB?
Sounds like an odd question but my phone will connect to BT Openzone so I want to share that with my iPad via personal hotspot. I could use 3G but then it comes off my data allowance and I don't want to have to buy a separate SIM for my iPad if I can avoid it. I can swap my sim from my phone, but that's a pain!
    Thanks
    Luke

No, unfortunately Personal Hotspot will only use your 3G plan.

  • Mail with Asian Characters Flagged As Spam

    Hi,
I'm based out in Asia, and quite a few of my customers get email in their mother tongue, and most of it seems to be incorrectly flagged as spam due to the asian characters etc.
An example from the logs would be:
    hits=12.439 tag=-999 tag2=3 kill=8 tests=BAYES_99, CHARSETFARAWAYHEADER, HELOEQJP, HELOEQ_NEJP, HOSTEQJP, HOSTEQ_NEJP, NOREALNAME, RELAYIS203, quarantine spam-ff2272f20c18bcfcad34405e0d7245b9-20061216-060809-13862-01 (spam-quarantine)
Now, my question is WHERE do I find the correct file to turn this off.
I do have some rules in: /etc/mail/spamassassin (including some I have added myself from spamemporium, or whatever) but I can't find anything in any of the files that deals with "Asian Stuff"
Help! I'm about to lose a customer, as all his Japanese email is flagged as spam! Appreciate any guidance you can give.
    Cheers,
    Steve

    HELOEQ_NEJP
    HOSTEQJP
    HOSTEQ_NEJP
    HELOEQJP
    are all in this ruleset:
    88FVGTheaders.cf
    (which you added yourself)
The older FVGT rulesets quite often tend to overly aggressive. Also, this has been replaced by a newer version "00FVGTFile001.cf" which doesn't contain those rules anymore.
Either lower the scores for these rules or remove/replace the ruleset.
    To lower scores, just add:
    score HELOEQ_NEJP 0.0
    (and so on)
to your local.cf or user_prefs file.

  • Did someone send spam through my iinet mail account via my Mini Mac?

I am very annoyed with iinet. They locked me out of my email account with no warning or explanation. All my important mail comes via that account and has done for 6 years. Imagine all the places that need to use my address to contact me - dozens and dozens.
I rang them and they claimed my email account and computer have been 'compromised'. I have a Mini Mac, 10.5.8 and a 2011 Macbook Pro. I use the Mail programme and my messages are deleted from the server immediately.
Is this even possible that my Mac has got a trojan? They have not sent me an iota of proof that spam was sent from my email account or my computer. But they claim their tech department traced the spam mail to my IP address. I just can't believe this.
Their solution is to make me change my password. As I believe the spammers are only spoofing - adding my email address to the 'sent' field - not hacking - I won't do it on principle. This is what iinet wrote. Please advise me how to respond because I am not changing my password if they are just being silly.
I understand that this is frustrating and a bit hard to understand. The processes involved with tracing issues like this are not easy and we have to stop all possible spam or compromises working its way through our network so no damage can be done.
Below is a basic outline of what happens:
    1.            Operations Centre (OpCen) discovers spam or a compromise.
    2.            OpCen trace the IP back to a username.
    3.            The customer’s account is locked and active internet session terminated.
    4.            OpCen create a PTS task outline the issue.
    5.            CC contact the customer and confirm all threats have been removed.
    6.            CC create an ETS work request (WR) advising the steps taken to prevent future incidents.
    7.            The WR is reviewed and the customer’s account is unlocked by OpCen.
For whatever reason our OpCen team have traced your IP to your username and have followed our usual procedures to stop this from affecting our network.

Internet Service Providers needs to be forewarned, users frequently get spoofed about spam.  Shutting down their account due to suspected spam only weakens their reputation as an Internet Service Provider.
Spoofing can make legitimate e-mails look like spam simply by editing the reply-to address on your e-mail.
Sadly, spam e-mailers harvest legitimate e-mails by infecting various Windows machines and servers and grabbing addresses off their addressbooks.    People who mass e-mail you for legitimate purposes may actually be the harbingers of this problem because someone on their mass e-mail list may have the spam virus.  The way you can prevent it is:
    1. Never publish your genuine e-mail on any website that doesn't securely hide it.  That includes Apple Support Communities postings.  You can edit your Apple Support Community preferences to hide your actual e-mail address in the profile (which I see you've done!).
    2. When the recipient of a mass e-mail from a friend, tell them to only use BCC in their future mass e-mails.
    3. If sending mass e-mail yourself, do it only from an account you can afford to be bombarded by spam, or be spoofed.
    4. Encourage the use of mailing lists that don't publish a person's e-mail, including social sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn.
    5. Inform internet service providers that by setting up blacklists, they end up unintentionally making a file whih if compromised on an insecure machine, can backfire, and only create more spam.  Any internet provider blacklisting you is doing just that.

  • Does anyone know why these particular files would load incorrectly through iphone mail?

I have been having trouble with some images being sent out correctly to my sales people/customers. There are no problems EXCEPT when the files pass through an iphones mail. Sent or recieved the files get small file corruptions or something that results in an image distortion. I send tons of other images that have had no issue. Does anyone know why these particular ones are different? I'm worried I might be using the wrong settings in my save for web to get everything to be read by others accurately.
This problem doesn't seem to be limited by just the one email either. Every time we email these images through iphone it does this. On two different phones and two different accounts. Try for yourself and I'm sure it will do exactly the same thing unless uploading them to this page has changed them in some way.
I used illustrator cs6 to make the blue shirt image. The other three were files sent from a customer.
    Thanks

The following is what comes out the other side.
This one got renamed to image002.jpg somewhere through the email program.
The other three didn't change file names.
    Thanks for any help!

This may depend on your chosen encoding options for the Mails (MIME vs. Base64 or similar) and/or the mails being reduced in size and sliced up server side. Apple (and Google) do stuff like recompressing images when viewing mails on mobile devices from an Apple ID or Gmail account... You have to turn it off in their web frontends....

You may be having problems with your battery. However, they were not caused by using your iPad charger. The iPad charger is compatible with the iPhone and can safely be used with it. If your phone is less than a year old, you may want to take it to your nearest Apple Store and have them take a look at it. If the battery is not functioning correctly, they will replace it for you.

  • IPad does not find iphone hotspot

I have iPhone 4S and an  iPad2 WiFi both running iOS5.1
I use the iPhone hotspot function to get the iPad on the internett when not at home. This workes great, I had to type inn the WiFi password the first time i connected the iPad, later the iPad connects without having to type the password.
Since iOS 5.1 the iPad sometimes have problems finding the iPhone hotspot. I turn on the "shared internet" function of the iPhone, open the smartcover on the iPad, but it does not connect (the two attached rings does not appear). If I go to Settings>WiFi on the iPad, the iPhone WiFi hotspot does not show up, the iPad just keeps searching. Then after a little while, the iPad suddently connect, ususally after I open Safari or Mail or something on the iPad. If I then close the smartcover, and leave the iPhone hotspot on, reopen the iPad smart cover, again the iPad does not seem to find the WiFi hotspot. I have to turn the hotspot function off/on on the iPhone, and then after a little while it works. When first connected, everything works OK.
Is this a problem with iOS 5.1?

Just going to the hotspot screen on the iPhone puts it in host mode where it's easy for the iPad to find it.
You lose some speed due to bandwidth bottleneck of Bluetooth, but I found bluetooth tethering had fewer headaches and was more persistent.

  • Problem of the iPad connection with the iPhone hotspot after upgrading to iOS 6

Hi guys, this is my problem: I've got an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2. With iOS 5.1.1, installed on both devices, I was able to surf the internet with my iPad through the iPhone hotspot.
I've just installed iOS6 on both devices...now iPad sees the iPhone wi-fi network but it can't connect!
    Why?
    Thanks for your support

I have a similar problem, using iPhone 4 and iPad 3. I can connect to the iPhone hotspot (iPhone show the blueish bar on top of its screen and says 1connection is active). So far so good, BUT, the iPad gets no symbol (the chain showing its linked) nor internet access. Sometimes the symbol comes but still no internet. By resetting the iPhones network settings I get it to work immidiately after, but after putting my iPad to sleep there will be the same issue over again. Please come up with a solution. Maybe I need to restore both devices? I don't like the idea though. It just works, huh?!?!?
