Mail fonts

Ok, I'm curious; does mail still not let you do something as simple as changing the color of your default font? I was hoping that would come about in 10.5.2.
I'm just surprised that Mac's don't have an extremely simple thing to do that, instead of having to do the change for every single message.

This seems to be a common problem. I upgraded to MacBook Pro and Leopard and about a third of my incoming mail messages appeared with a strange font and my Titles were in fractions. The culprits were 2 fonts: Helvetica Fractions and Phonetics. As soon as I turned them off the problem was solved. By the way, I couldn't select different fonts in Mail Preferences because it was locked on the Appearance window and wouldn't let me make a change.
HOWEVER, the BIG issue to me was that twice I spoke to Apple Care representatives and both times I was told to reinstall my system. I naively did it the first time and had hours of reestablishing networks, printers, etc. The second time I was really angry. Apparently this issue is not unique to me and I am appalled that Apple technicians were not aware of it.
Yeah, I should have checked the forum but what am I paying so much for APple Care if not to help out in a pinch.

  • Mail Font formatting of headers goes crazy, Solution?

Shame on me for messing with fonts, but here we go.
After possibly deleting a "standard" font while installing new fonts, most of my Apple-made apps changed fonts. While most are back to normal, Mail is not.
    Screenshot:
    Here's what I've tried:
    - Wiping all user fonts, and replacing both system font folders with known good copies.
    - Disabled all plugins and bundles.
    - On the same computer, swtiched to a "test" account which is a completely defaulted new user account and was created before this problem. Mail worked fine with new account and imported com.apple.mail.
    - Changing Mail font settings in Preferences; this problem is not an option to fix.
    - Replaced Mail itself with a copy from another Mac.
    - Trashed com.apple.mail (after backing it up)
    - Ported com.apple.mail to another Mac with Mail and worked fine.
So my guess is its an issue at the user level. How do you reset the program's fonts, other than the ones in Preferences? What about layout? What hidden folder did I miss?
    Thanks!

The affected font is probably Helvetica. Take a look at the following article:
Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther
Make sure first that the required fonts are installed in the right places and enabled in Font Book. You may also use Font Book to validate fonts and resolve duplicates. Also, get rid of Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic if you have any of those fonts installed.
A simple troubleshooting procedure for this kind of problems is to start up in Safe Mode — see Undoing Font Book.

  • Default Mail Font ignored when using "Mail this webpage" in Safari

This is not really a problem but more of a puzzling irritant.  I often use the "Mail this webpage" option in Safari (the small envelope icon in the tool bar) which opens a draft email with the then-current webpage's URL already embedded in the text area.  Prior to Mavericks when using this option the draft note triggered by Safari reverted to my default Mail font already selected via Mail's preferences pane.  Just as I would want it.  Ever since Mavericks though, when I click the envelope icon it brings up the draft email with the URL as before, but the text font for that note defaults to Times, not my previously-selected default Mail font (Lucinde Grande just for clarity).  So to stay consistent with my other email styling I have to manually click the draft email's Format button, select Lucinde Grande, and then begin typing.  I can find no place in either Safari's or Mail's preferences or options where I can change the default "send an email triggered in Safari" font. Emails originated in Mail properly use the default Lucinde Grande font.
Once I go through the above and send the note, if I later repeat the same "mail via Safari" acion, the new note is again defulting to Times and I have to go through all of the above again.
A companion oddity is that when I go through this and click the Format button once, nothing happens.  I click it a second time and then the font selection options are presented.  This happens consistently on 3 separate installs of Mavericks in our house (two iMacs and a MBP), and it has been this way from OS 10.9.0 through the updates to the current 10.9.2.  Any ideas, or anyone else experiencing this?  Thanks.

    This is very annoying behavior.
I have a sudo work-around, although it's really just a different set of steps. If you use the new Share button (square with arrow icon) than the resulting email consists of a url at the top and text from the page below that. The first line of the email (empty) and the url are in the default mail font. Now just delete the text that was added from the page.
I use this method because it seems like if I do it the other way the new message will sometimes go back to Times when I hit Return a couple times.

  • IPhoto export to Mail, font changes ?

When exporting to Mail or adding via photo browser, I want to add captions. Only the first pic has my standard mail font of 18, all other pics go down to 12.5 unless I change font sizes with each picture. How to solve this? Regards, Duncan

I get 12 point font regardless of what I set as the default or whether it's plain text or Rich Text. It's a moot question because the recipient will see whatever they have setup as the default font and size on their end.

  • Mail font too small

How do I change the size of the outgoing mail font for reading purposes?

It should change the size of the font in your message pane when you're composing. In the body of the email right click on a word for a context menu and choose "Show Fonts". Does it work that way?
The recipient should receive your message in whatever size and font they have set in their preferences.

  • Default Mail Fonts?

Can someone please list the default Mail fonts? I can't find them anywhere. I changed mine, don't like the new ones, and can't remember the old ones. Thanks!

Here's the complete list of default fonts. It's from my german system, but you'll figure it out.

  • When composing Yahoo e-mail, fonts get bigger and bigger

Have tried re-setting zoom. Have checked to make sure font sizes are correct in e-mail font menu.
This issue only occurs when using Yahoo for Firefox. E-mail composing fonts are fine when using IE.
Currently in Firefox version 30. Problem started with version 29. Thanks.

Thanks. The font keeps getting larger only when composing e-mail from scratch. All pasting add ons are fine. No signatures are used.
As soon as you you use the enter key to space down the page, each row gets larger font size. Even the cursor gets larger as you go down the page.

  • Mail font changes when i send to a pc.  how to stop this from happening?

My mail font changes when I send to a PC and looks unprofessional.  How can I stop this from happening?

You have no control over the way a mail client displays the body of your message. If you want control, send a PDF or HTML attachment.

  • Misbehaving Mail fonts

I have set the Fonts in my Preferences folder as Gills Sans (Regular).
When I create new messages the font is Gill Sans. However, my mailbox and message lists both appear in Gill Sans Light, which is difficult to read. The strange thing is that there is that Gill Sans Light is not listed in Fonts in Preferences.
How do I get the message list and mailboxes to appear in the font I have selected ?
    Thanks.

  • Apple mail    fonts window disappears   Mavericks

    I am using OSX 10.9.5    ...., Apple Mail   version 7.3  1878.6
I usually leave the Fonts window open.   In the last month it has started disappearing without me requesting that it disappear.
    Any suggestions ?

It's been a while since I used Mavericks, but I believe in the New Message window, there is an icon at the bottom left of a new message window which allows you to customized the fields. Once open, there should be a box there to show or hide the signature field. If not, try right clicking on it for a customize window.
Mail (Mavericks): Customize a message header
When you write a message, choose which fields to include in the header.
In the New Message window, click the Customize pop-up menu (it has horizontal lines on it) in the lower-left corner of the header area, then choose Customize.
Select the items to include, then click OK.Some items are shown only when they’re valid. For example, the Signature checkbox appears only if you have a signature.

  • Apple Mail font colour issue

Wanted to know if anyone else was having this same font annomaly?
When in Mail, if I ever need to change my text colour to black through the "Click to choose text color" toolbar option (for example if I have copied text that was in a different colour from a web site and want to change it to black, or if I have changed my text colour for emphasis and need to change back to black), the text does not go to black, it turns white. I can begin composing any email in black fine, but simply cannot ever change text back to black.
This does not seem to affect any other colour, and if I select "Show colors" and change to black through the "Color wheel" it's fine (very poor internationalisation with the spelling of "color", by the way. Has everyone stopped reading the OS X Human Interface Guidelines since beginning development of Lion?!), it's almost as if the wrong colour value has been assigned to the black box. I know that greyscale is the new standard for Apple's toolbars and sidebars, etc, but removing black as a text option seems a little extreme!

    Hello,
I have also, as everybody I think this issue.
Unfortunatly, it seems no solution available by Apple and plugin I tested (universalmailler, messagefont) or other don't solve it.
Well, I made my own service with automator (for mail.app, w/o entry) with such code below and assign it to hot key ^R (ctrl R):
I know this code is quick and dirty, but it function for me (OSX maverick, french) and now answer and previous text from sender are formatted in Arial, 16pts, blue dark color.
If somebody want to change it, improve it, no problem.
If somebody want more info, please tell me.

  • Copy letter from Pages to Mail font color not transfered with copy

I am writing a letter in Pages and copying the text into a new email in Mail. When I paste the text into the new email I am losing formating. Is there a way to keep font color formating exactly as it was (several different colors in one line) in Pages.
    Thanks
    Mark

Open Mail preferences, click on the Composing icon in the toolbar, set the Message Formatting drop down menu to Rich Text. Keep in mind that not all email recipients may be able to read email using HTML formatting. It may be better to send your Pages document as an attachment rather than as the main body of the email provided your recipients will be able to read a Pages document.

  • Apple Mail, Fonts all out of Sync

I have been using MS Outlook.com for my e-mail for some time. It works OK but has its limitations.
I have recently started using Apple Mail, with my Outlook.com mail account.
Unfortunately mails look ridiculous - the fonts are all over the place. For example, I receive a mail sent from a business colleague. When I reply, it shows my Reply in 11point, but the sender's mail in 15 point. It obviously wasn't sent in 15 point, but it means that my mail will look horrible when it is received and printed.
I use Outlook at my work and - as you would expect - all mails come in and are responded to at the size they are sent. Most business users use Calibri 11, so when their mails are received they show up as Calibri 11 and when I reply they 'stay' as Calibri 11. But using Apple Mail, that same mail shows up as Calibri 15. Why is this and how can it be fixed?
    Thanks!

    Thank you for your reply.
I have, but it doesn't help. When I compose a reply the original message is again showing on my screen as a 15 point font message, which is what it is when I then send my message. That will look awful on the recipient's computer.
I have tested it out by sending a mail to my Outlook mail from my work mail account. My work e-mail account uses Outlook and send mails with a default font and size - Calibri 11. So it should be received in Apple Mail with that font. It appears to be, but when I compose a reply, the message text increases in size to Calibri 15 point, even though my reply is in Calibri 11 point (which is what I have set it to be in Mail/Preferences/Fonts and Colours.
The only way that I have been able to fix this is to manually change the sender's font to Calibri 11 point, and then reply. But that is tedious and I don't want to have to do that every time I reply to a mail. It's easier just to reply by accessing Outlook.com through the internet and working of that.
    Any advice appreciated!

  • IPad mail font

I recall iOS 5 had an option to increase the font size of the mail content but in iOS 6 it seems to have been taken away. I know there's a way to increase font size from the accessibility option but that doesn't apply to email. Any suggestions how I can increase the font in mail? I hate pinching and zooming so much

Settings>General>Accessibility>Large Text >On is the only way to enlarge the font, unless you want to continue to use pinch to zoom. That's all there is. The setting for minimum font size in Mail is no longer included in iOS 6.

  • Mail fonts cut off at the top.

Suddenly when I'm typing a new mail message, some of the fonts are cut off at the top. Usually capital letters, e.g. "C" you can't see the top of the curve of the letter. Also, when you hit the return, a number of faded dots are in the interval spacing, looking like a bad ribbon on an old typewriter. When I send the message, it appears okay to the receiver, and the copy in my sent folder looks normal. Any suggestions? I've tried changing fonts and sizes without much luck.
