Mail freezes when attaching PDF from Acrobate

I have a new issue with mail, when I am in Acrobat and attempt to Attach to email, Mail sometimes gives me an error (don't have it exactly, sorry) and then I get the spinning wheel and have to force quit. Does this mean corrupt preferences?

Mail sometimes gives me an error (don't have it exactly, sorry)
The exact text of the error message could very well be the key to unraveling this mystery.
Does this mean corrupt preferences?
No, we can't assume anything at this point without more information. How big are these PDF files; what version of Mail are you running? Have you checked Software Update to see if you need the Mail Update released yesterday? If not, do that first.
You should also replicate this problem and write down the exact text of the error message and include it in your reply along with the other information. In addition, see if you can replicate this problem in a new user account; if you can, then the issue is system-wide.

  • Mail freezes when attach using icon and dialog box, but OK with drag attach

Everthing else on my mail is working fine, but when I try to use the "Attach" icon on a new or reply message, the finder dialog box comes up, and then mail freezes with the spinning ball. Alternatively, if I drag and drop a file to the new mail window, it works fine. Also, if I right click (CTRL-click) on a file, and select "Open With -> Mail" That also works fine.
My suspicion of the problem is that the attach file dialog box keeps defaulting to open files in a folder that was in a link that's no longer available (deleted link), and it freezes things up. Because it always opens up to the same folder, and that's where it freezes, without showing any files in that folder.
    Thank you for your help!

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same). Uncheck (disable) the rest. Parallels in particular, if you have that installed, is known to cause this problem in Mail.

  • Mail freezes when attaching file

I suddenly can't attach files to mail that I'm sending. The mail program freezes and I have to force quit (it says "mail not responding" in force quit box). I can still send mail if there are no attachments. Anyone know what to do?

    Hi Lessa,
Could be many things, we should start with this for safety...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
If you still have the same problem...
    Quit Mail.
Then in your Home folder. open Library folder, open Caches folder in that, look for the Mail, and drag it to the Desktop.Move Envelope Index to the Desktop in...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Move this folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail

  • Send message windows doesn't close after sending attached PDF from Acrobat

I have several forms that I have created in Acrobat 9 Pro. These forms have a button set to submit to an email address. After filling out the form, and clicking on the submit button some, but not all, of users with Outlook 2007 are having a problem with the send message window not closing after sending the email.
When they click the button the email is created with the form as an attachment. When they click the send button in the send message window the message goes into the outbox, and then gets sent no problems. But the send message window never closes after sending the message. So my users think the message never got sent.
The computers that I am seeing this on all run XP, have Outlook 2007, and use Acrobat Standard 8. On some computers it works just fine, and on others it has the problem. It must be a setting somewhere but I can not figure it out.
Closing the window by clicking on the "X" is no problem, but many of my users are pretty new to computers know very little about them. So something like this causes them a lot of problems.
    Any suggestions?
    Trudy

My apologies, when I said "instance" I meant window.
I also just realized the new window and then closing behavior only happens when the iTunes link clicked is in an email in Mail (presumably, this would also happen in other desktop email clients). When an iTunes link in Safari is clicked, the "iTunes loading" white page appears for a moment and then Safari navigates back to the page with the link. However, that isn't working properly, either. The white page continues to "load" indefinitely and never returns to the previous page.

  • Mac Mail Freezes when attaching files

Ever since my upgrade to snow leopard, my mac mail does 2 things. 1, it keeps asking for my name and password, and I have already cleared out my keychain, re input all my information, and it keeps doing that. does it about once a day.
but my more detrimental problem is that my mail will freeze the entire freaking system if I try to attach a file! Used to, I didn't have this issue, and it's only doing it on my imac. I have snow leopard on my macbook and it works just fine when I attach a file. On top of that, it's doing it when I attach a mp3.
I am not sure what to try here. But it doesn't just freeze up mail, but the entire mac. I mean, I can't even do a Command Option Esc to close mail, because it locks up the entire freaking system. I don't know what to try here.

I would start by setting up another user account, set up mail.app with your info on that account and see what happens there. If everything works fine there, I would (in the normal account) export all messages etc in mail.app (and make sure you have backup), delete (or rather rename) all mail prefs etc and set the mail.app up again and then (when everything hopefully works) import all old messages.
Btw, I assume that you have repaired permissions on the disk and that "cleared out the keychain" also included doing a first aid repair for the keychain.

  • Firefox freezes when opening an adobe acrobat (PDF) file from any website

Firefox freezes when opening an adobe acrobat (PDF) file from any website. This only started happening after the latest update of Firefox was installed. Do you have a fix?

    Hi Susan,
The Adobe plugin in Internet Explorer is a bit different from the one in Firefox, however they're all made by Adobe and they usually come with Adobe Reader.
When you open a PDF file in Firefox, it "calls" Adobe Reader to help it read the file. In this case, the Adobe Reader takes over, and it is responsible for freezing your browser.
I suggest you try the last 4 solutions presented on the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] (start with "Re-install the plugin" through "Re-install Adobe Reader").
    Good Luck :D

  • Mail freezes when I want to add an attachment with my mail.

Since I installed OS 10.9 mail freezes when I want to add an attachment with my mail. How can this be resolved?
My iMac is from mid 2007 with 4 GB internal memory and 1 TB of diskspace of which 45% is used.

Go to Settings>Store, tap the ID shown, sign out, sign back in with the ID you want to use.

  • Mail Freezes When Opening

Mail freezes when I even open it. I have read for hours the various reports of this problem but none of the solutions or descriptions seems to fit me or help.
The problem began just yesterday, but it would freeze when I would begin deleting messages, even though I could get past the opening. I was able to delete one or two, then it would freeze and I would have to do a force quit. Now, after quitting and opening a half dozen times, it freezes even when I try to open.
I have downloaded the latest Mail updates/software
I have allowed mail to rebuild the Envelope Index file
I have repaired permissions on the HD
I have rebuilt each of the In Box mailboxes
I have rebooted the computer without power attached, waited, attached power and rebooted.
I have seven POP accounts plus the .mac account
I can't figure out what else to do and this just started yesterday after a fairly flawless experience with Mail of late. Please help! I am paralyzed in keeping up with e-mails.

I went to the Apple Store and the Genius Bar expert downloaded a recent "fix" for Mail that is not part of the software upgrades. You can get it by searching Mail for Mail Update downloads. He had to also import my mail boxes and preference list files after installing the update. It mostly seems okay now but I am not sure as I have just begun to use it again and it does not feel as stable as before. Just last night I notice a very strange thing. Any mail from amazon.com that I try to open or delete instantly freezes the program again and I have to force quit. I found one other reference to this on the discussion boards, but no explanation. I was able to manually drag the amazon.com e-mail to the trash and get rid of it but this morning another appeared, and also caused freezing. The amazon.com mail was not my initial problem, though it might have been part of it, since deleting anything would freeze things before, and finally I could not even launch mail without it freezing. That is now fixed, but there are still strange things going on here.

  • Is there any way to "Print to PDF" from Acrobat?

In Windows, you can open a PDF in Acrobat and print it to a PDF.  This isn't behavior isn't available in the Mac version—trying to use "Save as PDF" and "Save as Adobe PDF" both produce the following error message:
Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save.
Is there any way to print to a PDF from Acrobat Pro X on a Mac (running Snow Leopard)?
Note: There's a utility to being able to print from a PDF to PDF (which I why I suspect it's available in the Windows version), so "You're doing it wrong—just Click File > Save" would not be a very helpful response.  I'm sure there are other uses for the functionality, but in my case in particular I need to split each page of a scanned PDF in which each page contains two pages of the original document.  Printing to a PDF provides an easy way to do this, but I'm open to a more appropriate solution if it's available.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Adobe removed the ability to "refry" (make a PDF from a PDF) several versions ago.
what you need is to go to document and choose Remove (delete) pages (if it’s a duplicate Page)
You can also extract pages, add pages and so on. See this:

  • ITunes freezes when importing music from CD and also when playing,

Just recently iTunes has started to freeze when importing music from a CD - it just stops and the progress bar remains as it it. The whole mac then freezes and I get the spinning beachball. I can't use any other application. The same thing is happening when I play music - it's ok for a song or two and then freeze and the beachball appears. I've downloaded iTunes again and reinstalled and it's just the same. Using Safari and Mail etc is no problem at the moment.
I also have a problem getting the iMac to recognise external hard drives - it won't show them on either firewire 400 or 800. I can see my 1TB drive using usb ( it shows up on the desktop, whereas on firewire it doesn't do this) but if I try to open it and see the contents in finder, it opens, but doesn't dispaly the contents of the drive. I can see the disk size but just get a grey spinning wheel in the bottom right hand of the finder window. Timemachine does not work.

I have had the same problem & itunes crashes when i try to import a file. Now i can't even start itune. I've reinstalled itunes so many times, without a fix, I've lost count.
I did post and had no reply. I'll watch this post with interest.

  • Can't print to PDF from Acrobat XI

I'm having trouble printing to a PDF from Acrobat XI Pro (FYI, I'm using OS X 10.8).
    Here's what's goin on:
I open the file in Acrobat.
I hit Cmd-P and in the "Printer" dropdown list I select "Adobe PDF 7.0".
I click "Print" in the lower right.
The print monitor icon pops up, but nothing happens. (When I click it to view progress, it just sits there and says "Ready to print", but no matter what I do, nothing happens.)
To clarify, as far as I can tell, this is only a problem when I try to print using the "Printer" dropdown menu and is universal across all applications (i.e. Acrobat, Word, Chrome, etc.). When I select "Save as PDF" within any of those applications, there is no problem at all.
You may be asking yourself "Then why don't you just continue to 'Save as PDF' and forget about the 'Printer' option?" The "why" is not important, so I'll save you my reasoning as it has no bearing on fixing this problem. I'll just say that I have a somewhat frequent need to do it in this particular manner and need to have that option available to me. No offense intended, I simply want to solve to problem without running off on an unimportant tangent.
I'm sure you'll have other questions about my system and what I'm doing/have done, so please ask away.
    Thanks so much

I've had the same issue on 10.7 (and, I believe 10.6). Although this point may also be contributing to the problem, I don't suspect that it is the only demon at at work here. However, if you are referring to all versions of OS X that would make some sense since the only print drivers I could find on Adobe's downloads section didn't show support for anything newer than OS 9.2.2
As to your suggestion, I'm not sure I follow what you mean. Here is a screen cap of the dialogue box I'm presented in Acrobat XI. Can you please point out the "PDF Button" you're talking about?
After reading your comment again, am I correct in assuming that you are suggesting I essentially save the document as a PDF, as is usually present in the print dialogue box for other applications? If that is what you are suggesting, I already explained that that is not an option and doesn't solve the problem.
    Thanks

  • Can't create PDFs from Acrobat or Word?

Downloaded the 8.1.4 update and now I can't create PDFs from Acrobat or Word.  If I try to create a PDF from the print menu, I get a message indicating that there are no print drivers for this...any ideas?

Thanks for responding.  Yep, I tried repairing it...no dice.  Then I realized that I'd re-installed AA Pro 8 (having completely given up on the AA Pro 9 upgrade that crashed my system) but not the updates.  So I went through and re-installed each update.  Still no dice. Then I did another repair. Nope.  When I try to create a PDF via the print menu, I get a "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup."  This tells me that I have driver problem. But everything else prints fine, and I'm pretty sure Acrobat doesn't have drivers.  I'm stumped...

  • Emailing .pdf from Acrobat 9

    Hello
I seem to be having an issue with emailing pdfs from acrobat. I am recieving an error "Acrobat is unable to connect to your email program" I am using Acrobat 9 running on a 2008r2 terminal server. The email program is Outlook 2010. All other users are able to attach a .pdf to email through adobe. Outlook is the default mapi client as i have read this is a common fix for this issue but it still does not work.

Try clearing the profile preferences for Acrobat 9 and let them get recreate
    Repair both Acrobat and Outlook/Office
BTW  I don't thing Windows Server 2008R2 was ever tested for Acrobat 9 on WTS.

  • Jagged text when displaying PDF in Acrobat or Reader, not Preview

when viewing PDFs inside Acrobat 9 or Reader X, most fonts appear jagged, whereas they look perfect in Preview.  this problem persists, even at even resolutions like 100%, 150%, 200%, and 400%.  everything looks great when printed from Acrobat, Reader, or Preview, or when viewed at Preview.  not all fonts are impacted, i.e. text in some fonts looks great, but many fonts look jagged.
this problem is occurring on both iMac 24" (OS X 10.6) and MacBook Air 13".
any advice on how to correct this?
    thanks!

Try either using a utility such as FontNuke to remove font caches. Or Restart in safe mode, this dumps all caches even Font Caches. Then restart computer and try Acrobat.
In Office 2001 there is a real bad problem with having two versions of the same fonts causing problemss. Perhaps Acrobat has the same issues.
To see if this is a problem Try the fiollowing:
Do something such as above to dump Font caches.
Next, open Fontbook and locate and choose Resovle Conflicts.
Run Resolve conflicts, after Conflicts have found open each font that indicates a conflict.
click on get information see which is the newest.
Now disable the oldest version whether its installed by the system or by Adobe.
After all conflicts are worked through,  Quit fontbook.
Now go to both Main Library > Disabled Fonts & User Library > Disabled Fonts, remove to desktop.
now select all the fonts moved to desktop and archive them using either Create Archive  from Finder, or Stuffit Deluxe.
Remove the fonts either a CD/DVD  store the archived files.
Put originals in Trash and empty.
    Now Try Acrobat.
