Mail freezes when trying to browse network folder

HELP HELP HELP!!!
mail opens fine, sends and receives fine.
If I attach a local file to the new email it works fine
If I browse the Server 2008 share through finder it works fine
*In a new email if i click on attach and try browse the server 2008 shared folder, mail locks up and I have to force close..*
I have 2 macbooks (OSX 10.6.4) and this happens on both..
FYI: I need the windows server so please don't worry about replacing it comments
Thanks for any light you can shed on this issue....

I am also experiencing this issue, Mail is freezing when browsing network folders when trying to attach to a composing email.
I was using Ubuntu 10.4 on my other notebook, where I have tried using smb:// and afp:// modes of shares. Both seem to produce the same beach ball freeze experience in mail when attaching. The shares do work well for all of the other applications I have used so far however.
For now I am able work around this by using Finder to browse the network share to copy the file to a local folder, and then navigate Mail to that local copy to attach that. Though it is the inconvenient kind of extra leg work that I am used to and expect when using (other PC type OS)
And I am interested in figuring out how to attach files on network shares too.

  • Mail freezes when trying to insert large contact group

I am trying to send an email blast to a large number of clients (roughly 1,200), but every time I try to input the name of the group Mail freezes and nothing happens. I have gotten so far as the name of the group appearing and being able to click send, but it always freezes and never send the mail. Is my contact group too large? That is the only thing I can think of, I am using the newest model 15 inch mbp with 16gb RAM so I have a hard time believing its the computer itself.

Found the resolution to this, my gmail was limiting how many contacts I send an individual email out to... nothing to do with Mail really.

  • Why does file picker unexpectadly closed by Windows message keep hanging Firefox 4 when trying to browse destination folder for download?

Whenever I try to download a file, Firefox 4 asks me to choose a destination folder, then when I browse and choose the folder for the download, Firefox just hangs, and I get the file picker unexpectedly closed by Windows message. I end up having to use task manager to close Firefox.

The post I was responding to said,
"Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps. "
Somehow, I think that means Windows...
I've tried Firefox in Safe Mode - it makes no difference.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.

  • Does Apple support MacKeeper. Since installing it, when using Safari the Yahoo Mail freezes when trying to use it. Should I remove MacKeeper, they do not answer my  e-mails. Any suggestions appreciated. Yahoo Mail works fine using Firefox.

Any suggestions are appreciated. I'm beginning to think MacKeeper was a BAD idea.

Installing MacKeeper was definitely a bad idea! Search for it on these forums and you'll discover just how much trouble it causes people.
However, all is not lost - here's a link to two ways of removing it:
Either follow WZZZ's instructions on page 1 of this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3298049?start=0&tstart=0
or you can use an uninstaller in this link: http://www.fixkb.com/2011/03/remove-mackeeper.html
(it has been mentioned on other MacKeeper threads that the site has not been 'verified' - not sure how it becomes verified, but it seems there are many who are very pleased that the uninstaller is available. So I guess it's at your own risk - although I've not seen anyone report any problems after using it).

  • Apple Mail 10.5.2 freezes when trying to IMAP sync Apple To Do Items folder

Hi - my Apple Mail freezes when trying to IMAP sync Apple To Do Items folder. This only started after Leopard 10.5.2.
A copy of my console log is shown below. Looks like there is some calendar with a nil UID -- and the program has a bug that it can't handle this.
Does anyone now how I get rid a nil UID (either an empty folder or an item with a null UID) to workaround this bug?

It looks as if you've the problem discussed in this -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0 (and other) threads.
Basically the soldering on your GPU is defective and the GPU probably needs to be reballed: if you take it to Apple they will just want to replace the logic board. If you're still under AppleCare, or if they will replace it gratis, that may fix your problem temporarily. A reball may also be temporary, but it's less expensive and there are repair centers that offer up to a one-year warranty: much better than Apple's 90-day warranty.
Have a look at the thread above: no need to read it all - just give it a glance and leave a message there if you wish.
    Good luck,

  • TS1717 iTunes freezes when trying to import a CD

    Please help!
My iTunes freezes when trying to import a CD
This also happens in safe mode
My driver is up to date

We had the same issue. Backtracking, it turned out that it began after our techie updated our home network - for whatever reason, the main computer no longer holds the LAN settings properly after being restarted.
It's an easy fix (until he gets back from the west coast and can fix it permanently): after I boot the computer each day, I open IE, go to "tools" - "internet options" - "connections" - "LAN settings" - check "automatically detect" and uncheck "use proxy server."
Once I do that, CDDB comes up wonderfully and imports all the data I need.

  • ITunes freezes when trying to access "burning" tab in advanced preferences

iTunes freezes when trying to access "burning" tab in advanced preferences and also when attempting to hit burn cd button in lower left corner.

Thank you SO much!!! This is Exactly the problem I was having. I have spent untold hours in the last couple of days trying to resolve not only iTunes freezing up, but my network connectivity went bust as well. I like Blink so I'm undecided about whether to uninstall it yet, so I just disabled all of its firewall settings, and presto!... I can not only get my CD/DVD player to read and burn CD's, but iTunes and my computer remain functional. I got my computer to reconnect to the internet by doing a System Restore at a point prior to my trying to burn a CD. Thanks again so much. You saved my entire week!

You could of course use Safari your default browser as a quick method of accessing gmail until you figure out the Firefox problem. (More than one browser may be used on a Mac or other computer).
Is this the only site you have problems with ? and does Safari work ok ?
Often this problem requires the page to be reloaded
    * try pressing the shift key as you reload the page
Another problem is sometimes the cookies for that site need clearing

  • Preview freezes when trying to open images - other programs have no trouble

Preview freezes when trying to open images - other programs have no trouble with the same file. This problem is somewhat intermittent.
I have replaced the Preview application by moving a copy from another equivalent machine - no luck.
Did not find any preferences file trash, though I looked.
    Is there one?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Edwin,
The .plist for Preview should be located @ ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.plist (where "~" is your Home folder).
Trash the file, logout/login or reboot your computer and try opening the app and opening the offending file again.
Let us know if any luck with finding the .plist there and opening your file?

My Zen Vision is stuck in Recovery Mode. The PC recognizes it but it comes up as 50mb Storage Media. • Ipod nano 5th generation freezes when trying to play a song or video

Within the last couple of day my ipod nano 5th generation started freezing whenever i tryed to play a song. Oly way i could turn it off was by resetting it, however it did not fix the problem and still freezes whenever i try to play a song. I have even restored it to factory setting and it does the exact same thing. I don't understand why it does this, does anyone know why it freezes and won't stop? i don't have any warrenty on it and want to know if it is fixable, because it just randomly started freezing when trying to play music. If any one knows why it would be appriacted to know.

Does this happen with any song or video you play?  If so, then my best guess would be a hardware issue since a restore to factory settings did not resolve it.
