Mail Will Not Quit and causes finder to hang.
Yesterday my mail app started to give me the spinning wheel while receiving new mail and will not quit no matter how I try to force quit. This includes forcing a quit through the activity monitor, force quitting through the finder and right clicking > force quit. It has since continued and now in its wake other apps have started to randomly hang as well. Even Thunderbird has done the same thing a couple times. Up to this point I have never had any issues with Mail.
I removed any third party add-ons from the bundles folder and no improvement.
I copied the mail folder to the desktop from user/library/ (Which causes the finder to hang but appears on the desktop once I relaunch the finder. This also happened when I copied the mail preference file to the desktop as well)
What the **** is going on here? Should I be worried about worms at this point? Could one corrupt file affect the system this drastically if it is indeed a corrupted file i received?
Anyone have an idea what might be happening here? I really am trying to avoid reinstalling system software here as I have no idea if re-importing my mail folders will yield the same problem.The new info is really important, and I am glad you reported it. It sounds very much like something corrupted preferences for Mail, but interesting if only one account was lost.
With what you call you secondary account, have there ever been any changes made by the provider, such as a change in server names that you made as an update to account set up info? When that happens the account folder does not get renamed, and when preferences are lost, and you set up as though new, the old account folder is no longer recognized.
Were you using any applications that could have temporarily used nearly all available disk space in some session of work?
I think you need to purge the preferences file for Mail, but we need to know what may be needed to reconnect to both account folders.
Quit Mail, and in the Finder make a Duplicate of the Mail folder that you found in the Home folder, and drag the copy to the Desktop for temporary backup. Next open Home/Library/Preferences and find the com.apple.mail.plist file and either delete it or drag it out to be on the Desktop.
Relaunch Mail, and set up your accounts again, and decline to import anything even though prompted, and Mail should if all else is well rediscover both account folders.

I am suddenly unable to open mail from the dock. dock shows mail is up and running, but stamp icon does not respond when clicked, there is no mail window opened, and will not quit. when double clicked, get new mail is not an option and I get no response with other actions.
I am retrieving mail on my phone with no problem. this just began happening, no updates or problems with anything else.
help?command-option-esc keys and force quit Mail. Then relaunch.

E-mail folders missing after PC was turned off for a month
After my PC was turned off for September, I turned it on again to access my e-mail via Mozilla. Previosuly existing e-mail folders have disappeared and the proposed solutions for others with this problem haven't worked. Was there some sort of upgrade to Mozilla that I missed?

Mail in 10.6.4 not usable: it consumes all CPU time and will not quit
Mail application does not work properly.
It eats up most of the available CPU time (till >300% on my machine), becomes unresponsive and will only quit when killed by a force quit in the Activity Monitor.
I have only two accounts set up. One Gmail account and a google apps one.
I used to synch with a Blackberry but now I synch directly through google apps.
The problem was sporadic at best at first but has become the usual behaviour now. Major change has been installing 10.6.4
I have switched to Thunderbird since Mail is not usable.
Tx for any hint on how to solve this issueIt seems to be a recurring issue with 10.6.4...there's probably not much mere mortals like us can do. I haven't found a solution. Try re-installing 10.6.4.

Under the Mailbox drop down it is the last option. Just select a mailbox first before going to the Mailbox menu.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not downloading properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.) -
The APP update request came for 4 apps. I submitted update all, but the system is stuck and will not update. Further, I cannot use those apps. How do I fix this?
Two other things to try -
Power your iPad off for a minute and then back on again.
Double tap the Home button, locate the updating apps (one by one) in the bottom task bar, press on it until the red minus sign comes up and click it. Repeat for the remaining apps. Try the updates again but do them one by one rather than Update All. -
My phone will not let me download the most recent update for iOS 7.1. It says I need a wifi connection and will not allow me to push the 'Download & Install' button, even when I am at home and my wifi is on. How do I fix this?

The app store always gives you the option to use a previous version of the app IF it is available for your device.

It will not quit, and does not give the option to force quit.Looks like the Mavericks upgrade has messed with a lot of people's installations, and some Apple applications (like Mail, or Safari) seem more highly impacted than third-parties'.
In your case, Mail appears to be gobbling up CPU cycles and RAM. You could install this little gem called atMonitor, highlight the Mail line in the main windows, then click on the "renice" button in the top right. You can then give it a "20" value (the lowest possible CPU grade for an application or service in OS X), then click on "Set and remember".
Mail should behave from then on, and close down gracefully when you ask it too, because you put a cap to its CPU usage.
One caveat: atMonitor must be running for the settings to take effect upon reboot. You can add it to your startup items.
There's another app called Dock Dodger that will prevent the atMonitor from showing in your Dock all the time. -
Mail activity hangs endlessly. Safari will not quit
MacBook Pro, 16GB 10.9 Terabyte HD. Tried completely reinstalling Maverick, fix permissions, repair disk. Sometimes internet preference pane hangs and will not open. Hangs Safari as well. There must be unknown conflict? Problem seems to be related to a "remote server". Activity Monitor shows two Safari-related activities not responding. I have to force quit mail and safari to get the computer to shut down. In Internet Accounts, I disabled google and Yahoo. Have iCloud, and twitter. Other Apps seems to work ok. I have switched to Chrome instead instead of Safari because of Safari issues, but Mail still has endless activity and will not quit. Any ideas? should not have to force quit all of the time

Suddenly, mail will not quit and will not show. mail will not allow restart . I used disk utility to repair permissions and verify disk, but still have the problem.
I also found a fix by Adamask?, but it did not work. Does anyone have a fix?I clicked the apple icon, I used :Force Quit then selected mail. It worked.

after I reinstall Itunes, the message read "the file iTunes Library.it cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes, i have tried with iTunes version 11.1, 10.1 and 9.1 still come up with the same message and will not open iTunes
