Hi, I'm an active Mail user, i check it every day and after I installed the nw update, like 3 months ago, everytime I open the Mail app, it starts looking for new Mails and the app gets freezed. Nothing happens, i have to restart it and it's the same thing, please i need help, IT'S VERY URGENT, so far I'm checking my e-mail on gmail web.
PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME EWHAT TO DO, I'D APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH.

I see you are running OS X 10.5.6. Boot from that DVD. Do not actually install anything. Rather, use the disk utility on that disk and run repair disk. What that does is, among other things, check for directory problems (and hopefully repair any errors).

You need to start the latest version of itunes on your computer and connect your iPad in order to restore it.

Have you contacted your email provider to make sure there are no problems on their end? If they say their email servers are working properly, check the outgoing and incoming mail servers entries on your iPhone to make sure both are entered correctly. Enter the outgoing mail server even if the account setup indicates that is optional.

Thanks Diavonex, but that's what I tried to discribe that I'd already done. I didn't realise it was called the "task bar".
I've done both the things you suggested again, but Mail is still locked into this "white" screen when it is relaunched, and after 10 seconds it crashes back to the app menu page. I seems to be running in the background as it knows new emails are waiting to be read, but you can't get into Mail any more to view anything.
Not sure whether to delete all Mail accounts in Settings and start again, but that seems extreme.
Any other suggestions ?

I have iphone3gs just upgraded to iOS5 just now.
So far i am not experiencing any slow down because of the new iOS.. Rather i feel like its slightly faster than the previous version (4.3.5)..
One of the first thing i want to try was the location based reminders.. After upgrade i coudn't find the option, and went trough the user manual to find out that it is not available for 3gs..:(

Why won't my Mail app. open after updating to 10.4.4?

I updated my powerbook G4 to 10.4.4. After restarting Apple's Mail application refused to open from my dock. I then tried to launch it by double clicking on the icon in the application folder. It pops up a dialog box which says, "The application Mail quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple." When I click on the 'Reopen' button the dialog box goes away and another one pops up which says, "The application Mail quit unexpectedly after it was opened. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click Try Again to temporarily restore the application's default settings and open it again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple." When I click on the 'Try Again' button a new window opens called 'New Account' which 'guides' me through the necessary steps to set up my mail account. When I click 'continue' a new window opens which asks for my user name and also my .Mac account password. Once I enter this info I click on the 'continue' button and it logs into .Mac and gives me an Account Summary so it's acting like everthing is okay until I press the 'continue' button and then I get the same error message as before: "The application Mail quit unexpectedly. I downloaded the freeware program called Preferential Treatment by Jonathan Nathan in hopes it would remove a damaged Mail .plist file. No dice - no problems with Mail prefrence files according to this software. I'm at a loss of what to do next. I read that someone else had a similiar problem - I don't know what to do next. Any help would be really appreciated as I use my Mail program constantly. Thanks! Oh, also when entering this Post and describing my system the OS menu provided does not allow me to select OS 10.4.4. I'm sure that will be udated soon.

Aperture 3: GPS data gets lost after 'Update from Master'

My library contains photos in JPEG format that I geotag in Places, then I save the metadata with 'Write IPTC Metadata to Master'. The problem I have is, that the GPS data gets lost after I do an 'Update from Master', even if I saved the metadata before. I'm having this problem with referenced and managed photos and all my JPEGs from several different cameras. The only way to permanently store the GPS info into my photos seems to be to export the geotagged photos as versions.
Does anybody has the same problem or knows how to solve this?

Use Houdah geo (http://www.houdah.com) to write location data back to the EXIF. It's interface is very similar to Places (Google maps and pins) and you can interface with the Aperture library. It's a bit of a pain, but if you need it done now rather than wait for an Aperture 3 fix, then...

IPod function frozen after update to OS4

After updating to OS 4 on my 3G iPhone, all songs (and podcasts, etc) are present in my phone, but will not play. I select a song, it comes up as if it's going to play, the little play arrow comes up, and then I get booted back to the list of songs. I have reset, restarted and restored settings. No change. I have not yet done a complete restore from my computer, because it takes upwards of 4 hours to re-download all my music to the phone. But I will if there isn't another way. Any advice? Thanks!

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

All old e-mails are gone after update

After updating my Gen. 1 iPhone to 2.0 today, I noticed that all the e-mail messages that were on the phone were gone. Inbox, Sent, all of them. Is anybody else experiencing this? I haven't yet tried sending an e-mail to see if my phone is having the same sending issues many of you seem to be having....

I contacted Apple Support to ask for a solution. During a couple of days I received several phone calls asking for info of my different devices and configurations. They didn't have an explanation for my problem and only can recover e-mails for one week ago and. They decide to report to engineering to see what happened and recover the rest.
Meanwhile, after 3 days, my Mail program start to download ALL my mail again. 5000 unreaded e-mails in my inbox. The same way they disappeared they returned. No explanation, no moves, no clicks, nothing. IPhone and iPad sync perfectly.
Two days after that (weekend) Apple Support has called me again (this morning). And that's the strangest part, they have bad news for me because they (nor support neither engineers) cannot recover my lost e-mails!!! Then, I've told them my e-mail has returned and they didn't know it. My problem was solved but Apple Support didn't have a clue why or when.
Happy end but my confidence in iCloud Service has decreased a lot. I've been using my mac.com adress for more than 10 years (most of them paying around 100$) and I didn't expect that kind of surprises and unknwoledge from Apple.
