Mail glitches?

My Husband sent an email to his bank in December 2013. In the sent box the email shows three errors:
1. His name is not mentioned as the sender, but the name of somebody else (a teacher from my son's former school).
2. The date of the email being sent is 2 years before the date of the letter itself.
3. The email was sent from my husband to the bank manager, but it appears to be sent by myself (Catherine) to my husband (Bob).
Can somebody help me with understanding these errors?

  • Yahoo! Mail glitches with Lion mail client and Address Book app

I had really been looking forward to using my Yahoo! mail account in the Lion mail client but now that it is here and I have set it up and used it for a few days I am noticing the following issues:
New mail is not always received or is received late. Yahoo! Webmail portal shows new items but these sometimes do not appear in Lion mail client even after a manual 'get mail' check.
Mail marked as read in Yahoo! Webmail portal or in mail clients in iOS devices such as iPhone or iPad is not marked as read in Lion mail client, however the reverse does work (i.e. mail marked as read in Lion mail client does mark the message as read in webmail and in clients on iOS devices).
Yahoo! Aliases are not supported. Yes, you can add aliases by inserting the other email addresses in the 'Email Address' field of the account settings, but you cannot add more than one display name.
I have also found that if you turn on Yahoo! contacts via the tick-box in the new 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars' pref pane in System Preferences that I end up with random duplicated contacts. These duplicates are not seen on iOS devices, just in the Address Book app. If you delete a duplicate contact, it deletes the contact altogether. However, I have found that if you keep contacts unticked in the pref pane and add your Yahoo! account the old-fashioned way (i.e. via the Address Book app's own preferences) then the contacts sync through perfectly with no duplications.
I would be interested to know if anybody else is experiencing these issues. It may be worth noting that mine is not a @yahoo.com address but @xtra.co.nz which belongs to my ISP here in New Zealand, but the mail is managed by Yahoo!. The account works perfectly as a Yahoo! account on iOS devices and does appear to be working in Lion, except for these small glitches but I don't imagine these are specific to @xtra.co.nz addresses.
    Thanks
    Steve

i've had the same experience here.
essentially it seems like lion mail.app just takes an incredibly long time to pickup new changes from the IMAP server at yahoo.
ios and webmail are obviously much quicker.
if it is working on ios, why does is it so delayed in mail?
    any solutions out there?

  • Keyboard and Mail glitches

Since upgrading to Maverick 2 weeks ago, a couple of glitches have popped up which are not critical but very annoying.
    MAIL:
When I start typing in a contacts name, Mail suggests an email address from my Contacts or a previous email.  All well and good but unfortunatey when I click on the suggested name, it adds it twice. It does this everytime.  I've re-booted and erased the PRAM multiple times to no avail.
    KEYBOARD Preferences:
I use the US Standard keyboard input in System Preferences and have it show on the menu bar.  If I let the battery run down or after the computer goes into sleep mode, when I re-boot/wake the computer, it defaults to the Maltese keyboard preference even though I deleted it in the system preferences. When I open the keyboard preference, the US option has been deleted and the Maltese is in its place.  I use to live in Malta and used that keyboard option but that was 3 years ago and multiple OSX versions ago.
How do I get both of these issues solved?  Never had these glitches in previous versions.
    Thanks

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Gmail & Apple Mail glitch--can't download msgs to two computers?

I have two Mac laptops with two Apple Mail accounts (one is new MacBook Air). When I get a new message in Gmail, it only downloads to whichever computer I open next and does not download to the other. Is there any setting in either Mail or Gmail POP that I can set so that all incoming messages are downloaded to both computers?
    Very much appreciate your help

Yes - in Mail's Account Preferences, under Advanced, untick "Remove copy from server".
Having said that, I strongly urge you to use IMAP for GMail access. Not only will this method not delete mail from the server, you're kept in sync (you only need to check a new message once on one computer; it will be marked as read on the other computer) and you can use server-based folders. You can enable IMAP in your GMail webmail settings (the same place you enabled POP).

  • Apple Mail glitch

I run OS 10.6.8 and Mail 4.6. In Mail, I cannot find a way to send emails to myself (or in Prefs, to send a copy to myself). Either way, I can't send mail to myself. Fix?
Another separate question; how do I delete permanently and completely, unwanted contacts from my addrress book? They somehow get included in my 'groups' , and I get failure-to-send notices.
    Many thanks.
    Tdeecy

For my second question, I should have added that these are names which do not show up in my address book. That's the reason I cannot simply delete them from the address book. Very strange.

  • Mail replies won't send in OS 10.8.3

Replies to mail messages that have a link within the message won't "send" unless I delete the link and any other messages beneath the message I am replying to .  Message hangs up in activity window . I've checked with my ISP and all is fine there.  My older iMac running OS 10.6.8 mail works flawlessly .  What is going on here?  New messages "send" o.k.   So I'm clueless and bummed about what appears to be some mail glitch on ML.
Also, what is this new "envelope shaped" mail format with the blue border ?  Is there some option to change the format back to the regular " letter shaped" mail format ?
    Thanks for any help !
    Carolyn.  a.k.a. gladys2

So far, no big change, but I have figured out how to circumvent the problem by just deleting anything  I'm replying to other than the last message in a group of "back and forth" mail.  (if that makes any sense).  Its a minor hassle, but I'm not willing to risk messing up things by getting into areas where I'm not comfortable.... like messing with the Library.
I did run Repair Permissions a couple of times after I had tried everything else that was obvious, shut down, unplugged and restarted. I also sent an e-mail to Apple support and told them what I thought about Mail in ML.
It comforts me somewhat to see that there are a lot of folks out there with the same type problems, each with variations on the theme ! :-)
I do appreciate all you suggested.  If you come up with any other easy ideas, let me know.  You are a good guy to show concern and try to help !

  • SBC Global and Apple Mail program woes

So I have SBC Global mail account and I use Apple's mail program to manage and access my mail via POP3 configuration. About 5-10 times a day randomly throughout my Mail program asks me to enter my password because the server rejected it, I know the password is correct because it works other times. I then enter my password and check the box "use this one" and it gets the mail but later on in the day it will reject my password. I use a gmail and school email account in addition to my SBC one, and they all work fine, thus ruling out a Mail glitch. Perhaps there are settings, or a known problem with apple and SBC? Does anyone have any experience, tips, or the same problems?
    Thank you,
    TM

  • Mail suddenly stops retrieving mail for one of 4 accounts

I'm in the middle of a project, getting a steady stream of e-mails to a particular account, when sometime last night Apple Mail stopped retrieving my mail from Comcast for that account.
I logged into Comcast, my mail is sitting there, but the Apple Mail client isn't picking it up. (The other 3 accounts, which are set up identically on Comcast and in Apple Mail Preferences, continue to work normally.)
Re-entered the password in Mail Preferences for that account, it still doesn't work.
Closed and opened Mail, no go for that account. Restarted my Mac, no fix for this Mail glitch.
Thinking that I would have to delete it, I emptied the Inbox and Sent mail for the bad account (moved the mail to mailboxes on my Mac).
Per OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages - Apple Support
Connection Doctor is all green dots, for all mailboxes
I tried to rebuild the mailbox in question, NOTHING HAPPENED. Absolutely nothing showed up in the Activity window.
What now? I am prepared to delete and re-establish that one account in Apple Mail, but I want to lose a minimum of data. I definitely do not want to blow away the other accounts and mailboxes!

    You are welcome.

  • Grrrr...my mail has problems in new upgrade.

This is what is going on, in my case, and it is obvious it is with some others, also.
When I fetch my mail, there are no problems at all. Once I begin clicking on (and opening) mail, all works fine until I click on a commercial email from stores, gaming sites, and what not. These crash the mail program immediately. For those poor souls who are blessed with having a commercial email come in first in the list, and have it open, their email crashes before they even get a chance to look through it.
Yes, I have turned off all the correct things, and have the smarts to go into my mail on the hard drive and get rid of the offenders through that route, but it would be very pleasant to be able to actually read my commercial mail on my laptop instead of having to go to the server and read it there. This has all occurred since doing the last upgrade...not coincidence...and all the other excuses floating around. My husband is a computer teacher, taken tons of Mac classes, and manages to keep the whole network, grading system, and whatever running smoothly at school. Dealing with Power School is much tougher than figuring out this silly mail glitch.
Surprisingly, I am not angry about this clitch, and know eventually a lightbulb will go on somewhere, and this will be corrected. Hopefully, it will happen before all the holiday offers are gone...the ones I am now chucking off my hard drive so I can read my regular email from relatives and friends.
Sure makes me wish I had waited until after the holidays to upgrade.
    Take care and Happy Holidays,

Did you also reinstall the particular system updates
that you had installed immediately before the problem
    started happening?
Yes, have done this. Had to get it from the Apple site since my computer updater said everything was updated. Made no difference whatsoever. I will use the latest crash that just happened a few minutes ago when trying to open a DIY article sent from Mother Earth News.

Hi, i have a small issed ever since i owned this desk top. whenever i do an update it always tels me thatThere was a problem installing this update to your super drive?

    Hey bdkj,
What I meant was I copied back the user/cindy/library/mail folder contents from the laptop backup so as to resurrect my Mail boxes, accounts, emails.
bdkj I emptied & trashed the caches as you suggested, still no luck.
I've also noticed as soon as Mail starts to lock up and show declining 30gigs on my drive, I disconnect the internet, quit Mail and my laptop seems to come back to normal. One weird thing...during the Mail glitch when I watch my drive drop from 30gig available to 28 to 25...once Mail is closed and I go on with word processing, browsing, my drive numbers come back up to the 30gigs actually available. Is this weird or what? The entire Mail crap out/quit Mail/drive returns to 30gigs all takes about 2 minutes to transpire. Thank you
    Cindy

  • What directory names does Dovecot use to name mailboxes?

Over the New Years' weekend I migrated our mail server from a PPC-based Xserve G4 running OS X Server 10.5.8 to a new Intel Mac Mini running OS X Server 10.6.5. Overall, the migration was fairly straightforward, but we did have a mail glitch. Apple’s migration script run by Server Assistant (System/Library/ServerSetup/MigrationExtras/65mailmigrator.pl) created mailboxes at /var/spool/imap/dovecot/mail, as it should, but named the folders containing the migrated mail according to actual user names: like “bert” and “joe” and so on. When we actually fired up the mail server and watched what happened as new mail arrived or users logged in via POP / IMAP, we discovered that Dovecot was creating mail folders in /var/spool/imap/dovecot/mail named according to the users' GUIDs, such as A7FC2F6C-86C3-4119-B9C9-58B9B60E2066. So an entirely new set of mailboxes was being created, and the migrated mail wasn’t seen by our users at all.
Which is correct? Should the Dovecot mailboxes be named according to GUIDs or user names? We’re puzzled by the fact that Apple’s migration script created folders based on the users name whereas Dovecot appears to want to create folders based on GUID. I was able to manually copy over the contents of the migrated mail (bert/cur/*, joe/cur/*, and so on) to their proper locations, initially by hand for two users and then I wrote a small script to automate the copy for the remaining mailboxes. As a result, everyone received their migrated mail, though somewhat delayed and in some cases appearing more than once in their InBox as a result.
Our mail server, both in Leopard and SL form, is an Open Directory replica slaved off an Open Directory master. We had some fairly major corruptions present in the Leopard Server-based OD database we’d been using, so I made the decision to manually rekey a fresh OD database in from scratch using Workgroup Manager. I preserved user’s long and short names, UIDs, and group memberships but of course this new OD database had entirely new GUIDs for users. At first I thought the reason that Dovecot was using GUIDs to identify users it might have to do with the fact that the OD database had been rekeyed, and all the GUIDs had changed. Since then, however, I’ve brought up an experimental SL Server, also an OD replica of the same master. After enabling mail service on the experimental SL Server I’m seeing that Dovecot is also creating folders named by GUIDs as new mail arrives, and this server never knew what the original Leopard GUIDs were, so I must assume this is normal behavior.
…so the bottom line is which is correct: GUIDs or user names for Dovecot's mailboxes at /var/spool/imap/dovecot/mail? Assuming the answer is GUIDs then I have a bit of cleanup to delete all the folders that Dovecot isn’t using: right now it’s a bit of a mess. If it is supposed to be GUIDs, then the next question is why did Apple‘s migration script create folders based on user names and not GUIDs?
    …Any help would be appreciated.

R Bryan Harrison mentioned that Dovecot on his SL Servers name directories within /var/imap/dovecot/mail with GUIDs, not user names, as I noticed on a test server I built (a sandbox server). So it looks like our production mail system is doing the right thing.

  • Email account worm

Hi, I'm getting lots of 'bounce' emails on my iPhone email accounts. These are also going out to people in my address book! It appears to be maybe a worm or some sort of virus.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone might know how I can completely disable the mail app feature AND process on my iphone? I keep having problems with it to the point where it makes it difficult for me to connect to the server to make and receive calls. While on calls the mobile mail process starts up runs in the background (for some unknown reason) and interferes with my reception on calls, I have trouble hearing people and vice versa. I never set up email on my account, I never use my iphone for email. The only solution that I have found is an app that lets me see what processes are running in the background and terminate them. And for months now I have noticed that the mail process ONLY runs when I make or receive calls. I've exchanged the phone and reset it a number of times but I keep having the same problem. I've taken the phone in to Apple and the rote response is "Do you have a cracked phone? No, then there is nothing wrong, you don't have a virus, Apple products are infallible, there is nothing you can do. Would you like to exchange your phone again?" I have called apple and am told by customer service that I would need to speak to someone who is an engineer but no they don't have anyone available and to try a discussion board. I have read through some of these posts and it sounds like there are a lot of phone and mail glitches out there not to mention all the other apps and server issues. I don't have mobile me set up on my phone or any other mail services that I can see, but it seems like that may be what it is? It doesn't sound like other people are having this same issue as me. If so I'd love to read what they did top resolve the problem. I'd really like to know why mobile mail would be running when I am on calls and how and I disable it? Thank you.

  • I have 3 mail accounts in apple mail. One of them has had the spinning ball going for several days and I cannot receive mail in this account. I can receive mail in this account on my iPad and by signing into aol on safari. It's obviously a glitch in Apple

I have 3 mail accounts in apple mail. One of them has had the spinning ball going for several days and I cannot receive mail in this account or delete messages etc. For some  reason, I CAN send mail on Apple mail using this account, although it takes several minutes. I can receive mail in this account on my iPad and by signing into aol on safari and internet explorer on my office PC. It's obviously a glitch in Apple's Mail. I've deleted this account and reopened it in Mail on my Mac Pro with no difference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, this E amil account is major to my business.

sounds like a corrupt database or index
the glitch is your home folder and mail folder, esp look at syncservices
I'd post in the mail or Lion forum where you will find similar issues being discussed.

  • When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app.  However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2.  I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2.

When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app.  However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2.  I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2?  Any suggestions for getting the correct photo to show on iPad2?

Update:  I was able to have the correct photo show in my email as received on my iPad2 by changing a setting on my IMac prior to sending the photo on the email.
On the iMac, I went into iPhoto > Preferences > Email photos using > Mail (in lieu of "iPhoto").  This seems to have corrected the issue.  I'm not sure why.  Now the correct photo shows up when received on my iPad2.

  • IPhone 5 Glitch - Text Messages and E-mails

So basically when I have any application open that uses sound, such as a game for example, if I turn down the volume within the application, when I exit the application the volume of my text messages and e-mails are set to the same level as whatever I set the volume to in the application that I was just using previously.
For example, if I go into Temple Run and turn the volume almost all the way down to the lowest setting, when I am done playing the game if I receive a text message or e-mail I can barely hear the alert because the volume of those alerts will be set to the low volume from when I was playing Temple Run. I have to go back into Temple Run and turn the game volume all the way back up again to get text message an e-mail alert volumes back to normal.
I thought maybe this was an issue with the new iOS 6, but I had a few friends test it on their 4 and 4s iPhones and they did not experience this glitch. So I think maybe it's only a glitch on the iPhone 5. Can someone with an iPhone 5 check to see if it happens to you too? If not, maybe I just got a defective phone.
    Thanks,
    Jesse

I just updated my iPhone 4S to IOS 6 and I am now having the same problem. I play The Sims Freeplay, but keep that volume set at 2 or 3 bars, sometimes even on mute. When I left the game, my text tone was barely audible. I messed around with the volume settings for a while, but I couldn't get it louder. Then I finally went back into The Sims Freeplay, turned the volume up to about halfway, and then exited. What do you know? My text tone is now about as loud as it used to be. I went back and turned the game volume back down again to check, and that seems to be what it is basing the text tone volume off of. It is a bit ridiculous. I am really hoping that Apple fixes that bug very quickly, because I should not have to leave my games on blasting loud in order to hear my text messages or emails. Other people have been complaining about the low text tone (or none at all) on other forums, but yours is the only place I'd seen someone else discover the game volume as the way to fix it.
