Mail goes and comes offline by itself!

Hi, new here. Mail goes offline, an then it comes back again after a few seconds. Any clues? in the connection doctor everything is ok!
The error is: mac.mail.com on port 143 timed out
Thanks

Hi juca2929. Welcome here.
This is probably a .Mac issue that may fix itself after some time for no apparent reason. If Mail remains offline indefinitely, you may bring it back online manually by clicking on the (~) symbol in the mailbox list or by doing Mailbox > Go Online, for example.
If the problem persists, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.

my iphone 5 on the ios 7.1.2 suddenly wont fully turn on...it gets stuck on the apple logo and stays like that for approximately to 90 secs then goes blank but I can see a bit of lighting  behind the dark screen....it goes off by itself and comes on by itself trying to boot but still gets stuck on the apple logo after the dim light shows....when I connect to iTunes my phone can only be recognised only in recovery mode thus if I force it into recovery mode. My main worry is I don't have a back up of any of my data...on icloud I have just less than 2GB of my data which is as a result of incomplete back up...HOW CAN I GET THIS PHONE WORKING AGAIN WITHOUT LOSING MY DATA...if I can only just recover my data I would really appreciate it as I really  need almost everything on it back...if I can only get retrieve my data and lose the phone I wouldn't mind at all....Anybody know how to resolve this??Kind Regards

Anyone have any suggestions? or is everyone else just as clueless as me !

  • All of my mail accounts keep going and staying offline

Any ideas.  I've talked to two others who this is also happening...

I have been having the same problem for about the past 2 months using mail 4.4 on OS 10.6.6. Its been working fine for a couple of years without a hitch until now. I have about 10 different email addresses all hosted on the same reseller server. Each time there is a timed 'get mail' various accounts go offline and then come back online later, sometimes after a minute or so, some after an hour.
A similar thing is also happening on my iphone4 and ipad2 - 'mail server....... not responding'. This also seems to randomly alternate between various accounts.
My ISP has looked into it and cant find a problem but I think that this is because they cant replicate the problem. They suggested it might be a router/network issue but the problem still happens regardless of wifi being switched off. I have tried a Telnet test and all seems Ok.
Very frustrating as I sometimes have to wait for over an hour for an email to come in that is urgent.

  • Problem of network goes and come automatically ver...

As i have model 2865 cdma tata indicom using this celphone from last 9 months. I suffered a problem with this phone of
1.software disturbed automatically and effect of that loosses all phone memory/wash out. and
    2. charging problem
Both of these problem sorted by nokia care/support in local city by sending it to experts. but i m not satisfied with service, still having problem of CHARGING and another problem of searching network continously.

    In any case, it
shouldn't matter whether the files were pre-loaded or
copied over the network as long as the files are
actually on the drive and the specified file path is
    correct.
The file path specified in Preferences > Advanced > General just specifies where the iTunes Music Folder is located, not the path to any particular media file, which could be anywhere. Changing this preference affects all future files imported into the Music Folder but not those already in the iTunes library. IOW, this is more like a default location than a global file path.
The library file is a database stored on the local drive in ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library. It contains the iTunes metadata reference record for each media file, among other things. There is also an iTunes Music Library.xml file in the ~/Music/iTunes/ folder, used by other applications. (See What are the iTunes library files? for more about this.)
The content of these files is maintained by the iTunes app, not the file system. So if you manually move your iTunes Music Folder to another location (IOW, not through the application), the database may not be updated properly, leading to error messages because the file path info may be wrong.
To avoid this, you should follow the procedure described in iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Music folder or iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Music folder.
I believe ... the lost files in iTunes may be the
result of software bugs in iTunes, Apple TV
    and/or AirPort Extreme.
For this much at least, the "bug" is in your expectation of what setting the iTunes preference does, not in the operation of the application itself. It may or may not have anything to do with your other problems, of course.

  • When I open Mail, all accounts are offline.  It takes time to get them back online.  This is an on-going problem that has been chronic and it has finally gotten me "inspired" to ask the Community

When I open Mail, all accounts appear offline.  I have to get back "online" before mail is delivered or sent.  Hassle.  Any Ideas??

I was having this same issue all week. I'm also using 10.8.5 It was driving me crazy. I think I found a solution. I downloaded and installed the latest security update from Apple in the App Store. I have not had a reoccurance since (?). Maybe that will help you as well.

  • I just updated to 10.9.4 and all my mail accounts are now offline.  Unable to send or receive mail.  nothing else was done except for updating to 10.9.4

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Mail goes offline since 10.5.4 update

In the week or so since I did the 10.5.4 upgrade, I've noticed that over the course of the work day (machine is not asleep, and network is supposedly always connected) when I look at my Mail Inbox I periodically see the little warning triangle - the one with the ! in it - next to my Inbox. This supposedly means that Mail cannot get online and is therefore offline. When I see this, I hit "Get Mail"...and when I do, Mail goes out and checks and goes "bonk" and all seems fine. Until it happens again...which could be within minutes or anytime thereafter.
(additional info...) Sometimes when I go to manually check mail (hitting "Get Mail") when the little triangle ISN'T present, this will cause the triangle to appear. Then I hit Get Mail a few times and it goes away. It seems like Mail attaching to the network is a bit of a hit or miss affair.
Thing is, this did not happen before 10.5.4. It's also happening on multiple machines (all Intel MBPs configured similarly) on 2 different networks. These machines have always been set to check for new mail once a minute...and that's clearly what they're trying to do. Before 10.5.4, this worked reliably; but now it doesn't. And again, NOTHING other than 10.5.4 is different. Same ISPs, same routers (all Airports), same MBP hardware. Airport signal strength (as seen in the menubar) seems fine and isn't visibly dropping bars.
Apparently what is happening is that Mail is periodically losing its network connection until you manually force a check for mail. This would imply that 10.5.4 broke something in the way that apps (e.g., Mail and perhaps Safari...which also seems to "not find server" sometimes now) access the network? Has anyone else noticed this?

I just found this issue addressed on MacFixIt - http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20080730133625417 is website. Below is a summary.
For some users, this problem is just a matter of corrupted settings files, and removing them may help. To do this, go to the /username/Library/Preferences/ folder and remove the file com.apple.Mail.plist, then restart the Mail application. When Mail starts, enter one account at a time and test each accordingly. For MobileMe users who were switched from .Mac, set up the accounts with the "[email protected]" address instead of the old "@mac.com" address.
I just followed directions and basically I re-created the email accounts. Fortunately, all my old emails still showed up. I hd to reset my preferred "views". I think the new set up process also reset my Comcast settings. A few months ago I had to reset ports (Comast refused to say why), so I will see what happens. But so far so good.

I am having email problems with the new Mountain Lion.  stmp, imap, etc. I have looked up google info and It is confusing when it comes to TS, SSL also, please explain how to set it up so my email goes out and comes in securely.  Help
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - requires SSL:
    imap.gmail.com
    Use SSL: Yes
    Port: 993
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS:
    smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
    Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
    Port: 465 or 587
    Account Name:
your full email address (including @gmail.com) Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
    Email Address:
your full Gmail email address ([email protected]) Google Apps users, please enter username@your_domain.com
    Password:
    your Gmail password
    The Quick Answer
Follow the instructions below to set up IMAP1 access in most email clients.
Google Apps users, please follow the default instructions unless otherwise noted, replacing 'your_domain.com' with your actual domain2 name.
this is all greek to me. WHAT IS STARTTLS? On the first page of Apple set up there is a TLS certificate and it is marked NONE- should I change it to the long APPLE CERT option?  The next page under ADVANCED: THERE IS A BOX SSL MARKED.  Then IMAP Path Prefix - I put stmp.gmail.com.. is that right?  Port 993 can  use this one? as 456 doesn't work and 587 said it wasn't safe.  Under AUTHENTICATION I used PASSWORD.  Should I have used external client cert TLS?
Please help me set this up securely. Thanks

  • What is the preferred virus scan program for iphone? I believe that I have a virus. My phone will come on by itself and it appears to be recording audio. I have read about spyware/surveilance viruses that will record audio and take photos.

My phone is not jailbroken.  I don't know what you mean about hacked.   Maybe it is hacked?   This is what is happening: About three times over the past few months I've noticed that my phone while "off" will come on (light up) and the screen shows an arrow towards the bottom; an arrow such that you would see on various "players" in order to "play" video or audio, I've searched my phone and cannot find any app that produces this particular screen though. Once I pick up the phone when this screen myseriously appears out of nowhere and press anything, it goes away and goes to the standard "slider" front page to unlock the phone.

  • Can anyone explain why some of my mail goes straight into Archive and doesn't show up in my Mail Inbox?

I don't understand the Archive folder.  My Mail Inbox receives mail for my Mac, Gmail & AOL accounts - but sometimes after I've read an email I then can't find it when I check back for it later.  And then I discover it's in the Archive folder, though I haven't done anything to make it move to Archive.  So it must be happening automatically, and seemingly at random.  Can anyone explain how this could be and how I can prevent it continuing to happen?  Thanks.

Andy, thanks for your reply. I was just going to post that I seem to have solved the problem.
What I ended up doing was to first back up the mail folder. Then I created some Saved Mail folders and did a search to find the e-mails that weren't displaying and put them into a saved mail folder. Then I went in and deleted the e-mail account that wasn't displaying mail. (It would show the number of new messages in the red circle, but didn't show any messages being in the inbox when you clicked on the account.) Anyway, after trying to backup everything and deleting the problem e-mail account, I rebuilt the inbox and then re-entered the information for that account to set it back up. After I did this, messages come into the account just fine and show up just like they should.
The file structure looked to be the same as what your finder image shows. When I did the search which let me find the messages, all I noted was that it would say they were either in the Inbox, Sent Mail, Trash, etc. But, once I had them showing in the search window, I could copy them to a saved mail folder and view them without a problem.
Since this wasn't my computer, I'm not sure if anyone tried to change account settings, but not as far as I know. They just said it happened about 2-3 weeks ago.
Thank you for your help. I guess it's going to be one of those computer things that you don't know why it happened, but at least I know what I did that seems to have fixed it.

  • Mail pinwheel just keeps going and going

After sending an email to hotmail.com the Mail pinwheel just keeps going and going and I keep receiving these massages (Delivery Status Notification (Failure)) with the same date and time. I delete them and they just keep on piling in the trash folder untill I decide to Delete them.
    Text in the messages says:
The following message to <[email protected]> was undeliverable.
    The reason for the problem:
5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable'
    Final-Recipient: rfc822;[email protected]
    Action: failed
    Status: 5.0.0 (permanent failure)
    Remote-MTA: dns; [65.54.244.136]
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable' (delivery attempts: 0)
    Reporting-MTA: dns; avas3.coqui.net

If they have already been removed from the server, you may be able to get rid of those messages in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X) (for best results do it with one message or just a few at a time).
If the problems persist, you’ll have to get rid of the *.emlx files associated with the offending messages and re-create the index.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), here are two alternative procedures that should allow you to fix the problem. Let me know which do you find more convenient and/or works better for you:
    <hr>
    PROCEDURE A
    1. Select the offending messages in Mail.
    2. Copy the following script, open /Applications/AppleScript/Script Editor, paste the script there, and click Run:
    set theFileList to {}
    tell application "Mail"
    set theSelection to the selection
    repeat with aMessage in theSelection
set aFileName to (id of aMessage as string) & ".emlx"
copy aFileName to the end of theFileList
    end repeat
    end tell
    get theFileList
A list of the *.emlx files associated with the offending messages should appear in the script’s Result pane (and in Script Editor’s Window > Result History).
    3. Quit Mail.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is stored.
    5. In the Finder, go to the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder.
    6. Move Deleted Messages.mbox to the Trash if there is nothing to be preserved there.
    7. Locate the offending *.emlx files within INBOX.mbox’s Messages folder and move them out of there, e.g. to the Desktop. You can open the *.emlx files with a text editor to view their contents and check that they do indeed correspond to the offending messages before getting rid of them.
    8. Go back to ~/Library/Mail/, locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    9. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it's “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    <hr>
    PROCEDURE B
    1. Quit Mail and make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is stored.
    2. Open Mail.
    3. Create a new custom “On My Mac” mailbox.
    4. Select the affected account’s Inbox in Mail, then select all the messages it contains (Edit > Select All (⌘A)) and deselect the offending messages by Command-clicking (⌘-click) on them. That is, select all the messages in the mailbox except the offending ones.
    5. Do Message > Move To, and select the mailbox created is step 3. That is, move to another mailbox all the messages that should be preserved and that are stored in the same mailbox as the offending ones.
    6. Quit Mail.
    7. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    8. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/. Move INBOX.mbox and Deleted Messages.mbox to the Trash.
    9. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it's “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    <hr>
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user's home folder.

  • Annoying - Mail goes offline for no particular reason

I've seen enough in these postings to know that there is a bug in Mail. My situation is that I have four e-mail accounts that come into Mail through one cable provider. I constantly have problems with the little triangles saying "Offline". I used to think that there was a conflict with Entourage (which I use for a fifth work account) but now it is happening when I don't have Entourage running. I can quit Mail and re-open that fixes it for awhile. SOmetimes it doesn't happen for three days, and then sometimes four times in an hour (like today which is why I'm writing this)
I do have a wireless connection. Could that be part of it?
    THanks
    PB G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I am having a recent spate of the same activity... am running OS 10.3.9 and Mail 1.3.11. I too am connecting via a wireless Lynksys router on an open network which has NOT been changed in any way.
First time this arose arose was just 4 days ago, and what seemed to 'fix' it for a time was to take mailboxes offline (even though Mail indicated they were all still online) and then go back online again.
Then two days ago, and doing that fix only worked after several attempts over a period of hours.
Today, it is resisting all attempts.
When I do a mail check, the mail client's 'progress area' (the grey horizontal band) quickly reports connecting to the server, or even the authenticating step, but then stops and 'chimes' (that there is no new mail found). Checking webmail, of course, I see tons of mail waiting for me to come collect it.
I wonder if we have a bug here, given our synchronistic experience of symptoms. Also wondering if Mail is mad at me for having so much stuff in there...

  • Mail goes offline at home

Mail has worked flawlessly for four years.  Over the past several days, mail has continually gone off line when I am connected at home.  My network is working fine (I am online and can receive and send info from skype/webpages, etc.) and when I connect through webmail I can send and receive messages. I have four mail accounts configured through the Mail, each is imap configured to a separate Gmail account. Each account shows the ! error which reads "The server error encountered was: The connection to the server “imap.gmail.com” on port 993 timed out."  I can take my laptop to any other network and all the accounts go online and are completely fine for the entire session.  Then when I return home they go offline again.  I have tried to eliminate my wireless network from the equation by direct connecting to the cable modem, but the issue remains.
Any help would allow me to gain control of my sanity.

This is the result of 'details' from connection doctor.  Recall that this only happens from my home network.

  • Mail goes offline when sending

I am helping a friend get his Mail working smoothly.
He accesses the internet with a dongle.  Safari works okay. However, when clicking Send in Mail, Mail goes into offline mode and shows a "~" icon.
Anyone know how to get outgoing mail working.  Incoming seems to be working most of the time.
    Andy

Try this. Upon waking the computer from sleep. Wait about 20 seconds before doing any network activity like Mail or Safari. Then try it.
When a computer goes to sleep, to the rest of the world, it is the same as being turned off. It's Internet connection is disconnected. It takes a few seconds to re-establish the connection.

  • Need multiple 'MAIL' Icons.   Have two mail accounts and i want to keep them separate but want to EASILY switch back and forth from the main screen instead of going through, Settings, Mail, and selecting account. Major pain

Have two mail accounts and i want to keep them separate but want to EASILY switch back and forth from the main screen instead of going through, Settings, Mail, and selecting account. Major pain the butt.  This has been a request from Apple users for many years.    it's great you can now combine all emails into one, but some people want them kept separate and have separate icons on the main page.   They could easily do this by having one "MAIL" account as white and another red.  Or put MAIL 1 and MAIL 2.    Or an actual label that the mail accounts are called on the ICONS!!
    Help!

...I could switch back and forth between accounts while in the mailbox, with one button.  I think that is what you are referring to?  Whoever said it's just a simple switching - you obviously haven't had the pleasure of using an Android device.  It's not that quick to go back and forth - definitely not efficient...
Not that it matters a lot, Android vs iPhone interface is largely a matter of personal preference and what you know... I'm not sure which one you're saying is not efficient...
    In any event...
I currently have two email accounts setup.  My iPhone main page Mailbox settings reads:
    Mailboxes
    Inboxes
    All Inboxes
    Gmail
    [email protected]
    Accounts
    Gmail
    [email protected]
I wish there an efficient way to move back and forth while in the "Inbox" between accounts.  Also, Why does one gmail account show as "Gmail" and another as the actually address?
The names are based on the names you gave the accounts when you set them up.
    Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap the account you want to re-name. Go to the "Description" field and put in what ever you want.
Second, there is no way to quickly choose a bunch of emails to delete. I have to manually go into each one and move it to the Trash folder.
If you tap the edit button in the upper right while in mail, you can select multiple items to move, delete or mark (flag).
I don't want any of the condescending remarks, that I've read here and in other forums.  I'm honestly looking for a solution, which I think you are too!  One thing I realized is that iPhone users in these forums are really defensive and quick to say "that's how it is, live with it, if you don't like it go away"  Um...the only thing that tells me is you are pretty bitter and have kept telling yourself that, to force yourself to like your device.  I prefer to express my issues, and find solutions.  There is ALWAYS a solution...
I think what you will find is that many people here, myself included, tend to get a bit short with people who start off with attacks or whining about how something has been asked for for years and should be easy, rant about things that have already been beaten to death multiple times in the forums, talk about how much better Android or BB are at something (really... if it's that much better, why did they buy an iPhone to begin with?), etc., or continue to ask questions that could easily be answered with a simple search, or even just by looking back at the last dozen posts to the forum, half of which probably asked the EXACT SAME question.
I don't think any of us go out of our way to be rude or uncivil.  That said, attacking the people who are attempting to help you is much more likely to generate a response of 'if you don't like it, go away', than it is to generate something that will be truly helpful.
