Mail has created a duplicate email account - how can I delete it?

Mail on my iPad has created a duplicate of my @mac.com email address.  However, only one of these works!  The other addrees keeps telling me that it cannot get mail and sends me to my mail account settings to enter my password.  But, this is OK - and works fine for the proper @mac.com
I have tried to remove the duplicate account - but have not been able to find a way
Can anyone please help - as it is really annoying me every time I open mail I get this same message re this duplicate account!
thanks
Alan

  • For an iCloud and/or Windstream email account, how can I delete emails across multiple devices, without having to go to each device?

I have a friend with an iCloud email account and Windstream account on both her iPad and iPhone... She's saying that when she deletes an email from one device, it doesn't delete it from the other automatically... She's using both emails through the "Mail, Contacts and Calendars" settings under the "Settings" menu; not through apps...  I've had her check both of her email account settings to make sure that the settings were consistent... I've never had this issue with Exchange or Gmail, and I don't use the iCloud email account, so I'm a little unfamiliar with what else to look at... Can someone offer some advice, please?
    Thank you for your help!

IMAP is the mail protocol that allows you to delete a message one place and have it delete everywhere else. iCloud uses IMAP, so it should be working. If the messages never delete, then something may be incorrect in the settings. The easiest thing to do with iCloud is to logout of the account on every device, and then login again. (Another common problem with iCloud email is people often have two Apple IDs, and thus may have two iCloud email accounts. If you get confused about which one you're using, you may think you've deleted email when you actually haven't.)
If the iCloud messages do ultimately delete across all devices, then it could be that some devices aren't set to "Push" but are instead set to "Fetch" the newest info from the server. Fetch can be set to as long as an hour between check-ins.
The same holds true for Windstream if she's using an IMAP account there, too. If it's a POP account, then deleting a message one place will never delete it anywhere else—that's the way POP works.

  • Mail program has created a duplicate IMap mailbox I can't delete

Thanks in advance to everyone who answers this question.
Today I turned on Mail and discovered a new mailbox that has the same name (Fastmail) as a mailbox I created. It is using a gray round icon with the @ symbol on it. The account is an IMAP. I have using this configuration for about a year with no problem--until now.
This new mailbox has the following folders in it: RESTORE/brong/20071130T074641/Lists/Gaim
Inside Gaim is a junk mail from 2 weeks ago.
I have tried deleting the junk mail, but it reappears. I tried deleting each of the folders but am told I don't have permission:
    +IMAP command "DELETE" failed.+
+The server error encountered was: Permission denied+
I checked mail permissions and all is well.
I used disk utility to repair permissions just in case and verified the disk while I was at it. All is well.
I went to the online home of the IMAP account. All seemed well, but who knows?
I did a spotlight search to find the folders and deleted them. They were residing in my User Library folder in Mail. All folders came back.
I did the above again, this time securing the trash. But--presto--the folders reappeared again.
I scrapped my mailbox accounts and set them up all over again. (I was feeling a little annoyed at this point.) This scrapping was a result of getting rid of the plist.
The mailbox reappeared. It feels a bit Hitchcockian.
Can someone tell me why the mailbox is there (so I don't get this problem again), and how to solve it now?
    Thanks.

You mentioned that you went to the online home of your imap account and all seemed well.
Have you deleted the mail from the imap account - the same mail, I mean, as is on your desktop machine? With some imap accounts I've had to delete them "at the source online" before they'll delete off my desktop machine. The grey circle you describe is, for lack of a better term, the syncing process between online and your desktop account.
    Hope this helps a bit.

i had my Itunes account disabled due to fraud, if i create a new itunes account how can i switch purchases and apps to the new ID?

    Hi ...
Just be cause the account was disabled (Apple ID) doesn't mean you can't reset the password and have access to your iTunes purchases.
Use the iforgot link to reset your password > Apple ID: "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons" alert appears
If you have problems resetting, use the email form here >   Apple - Support - iTunes Store - Contact Us

  • ITunes on iCloud has created unwanted multiple playlists. How can I get rid of them?

iTunes on iCloud has created unwanted multiple playlists. How can I get rid of them?

Hi, if this is in regards to your library simply open up itunes and do the following steps:
    Click File
    Scroll down to "show duplicates"
A list will then appear of your duplicate song titles.
Be sure to CAREFULLY review each song to make sure it is a duplicate ( as I have some music that is the same song but live, acoustic etc...)
Proceed to manually delete each song from the list and leave alone any song that you wish to keep.
For playlists, you will need to hit the name tab so that your doubles line up, from there you will have to manually delete them, it helps to hold the Control button to select multiple songs as a time ( they will be highlighted) then when your done selecting the songs you wish to delete, right click your mouse and select the delete option from the window tab.
Best of luck, please rate my response for help!

  • I accidentally created an identical email acct, how to I delete the newer one and not the old one?

entally created an identical email acct, how to I delete the newer one and not the old one? And I'm receiving e's just from the new one.

Move the "e's" (email messages?) to the old account first. You can drag and drop.
To remove an account in Thunderbird:
    '''[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences_in_Windows,_Linux,_and_Mac Tools|Account Settings]|<select the unwanted account>|'''
Down at the bottom of the left-hand pane, '''Account Actions''' then '''Remove Account'''.
Are both accounts using POP? That could explain why new messages appear in the new account but not the old.
It could help to post your Thunderbird settings data: '''Help|Troubleshooting Information'''. Clear the "Include account names" checkbox. Click on "Copy text to clipboard", then paste (ctrl+v) into your next posting here.

    you can't.

a single iTunes can be authorized for up to five iTunes store accounts (Apple IDs). a library thusly set up will sync content purchased with any of the five Apple IDs to any device.

You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

I have 2 computers that sign in to itunes on the same account email. How can I change 1 of them without changing the other account?

We have had no issues with the update, nor has anyone we know. Most people never have an issue of any kind.
MMS is working fine for me and everyone I know.
Iphone will sync itunes content with ONE computer at a time.

  • HT204053 My daughter has a phone on my account how can I get her messages to come to my iPad with a different number but all under my name.

My daughter has a iPhone five under my account how can I get her messages to come to my iPad? Under my number?

This can happen when you both share the same Apple ID for iMessage.  You can continue to share the same ID for purchasing from the iTunes and App stores, but you should use separate IDs for iMessage and FaceTime.
To fix this, on one of the phones, to go Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a separate ID.  Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

  • If I have multiple email accounts, how can I prevent one of them from sending email?

If set up multiple email accounts in Thunderbird, how can I prevent one of them from sending email, while allowing others to send?

    Simple answer:
do not use the email address when sending or replying or forwarding emails. Sending is not automatic, you have to generate the email and click on a Send button.
You could use an smtp server that will not allow sending using the incorrect server for the email address, so that it cannot send, but if you accidentally use the email address you may get an error message, but at least the email will not be sent. Do this here:
Tools > Account Settings for the mail account.
bottom right Outgoing Server - select one that will not accept sending using wrong email address
    OR
in Outgoing Server(SMTP) select the server you are using for that account
    click on 'Edit'
deliberately make an error in the server name - remove the port details etc.
So the details are wrong and cannot send.

Add your iCloud email account to your Galaxy using these settings: iCloud: Mail server settings for email clients.

  • My iCloud account is different to my email account how can I change my iCloud account

HHow do I change my iCloud account

If the old ID is you ID and an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.
