Mail has to be forced closed to power off after maverick upgrade

After taking the maverick upgrade to power off the computer I have to force close mail. Not a huge deal but wondering if there is a setting I don't have right.  I'm pretty new to this mac world...less than a year...so I'm still learning.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Odgenite,
Please first complete your profile, if you don't know how please click Profile Update for instructions.
The first thing to do is restart in Recovery Mode, open Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions 2x. If you don't know how to start in Recovery Mode then hold down the Option key when you hear the startup tone and you will see what partitions to start from. Choose Recovery, then open Disk Utility. After running Repair Permissions 2x restart normally and re test. If this does not work then open in Recovery Mode again this time reinstall OS X, this will leave your data alone however it is ALWAYS wise to backup your data prior to doing any update or upgrade.

Is it better to "lock" or "power off" after an Ipad 2 use? Why.?

  • Mail Not change state when BlackBerry are Power Off

I have Groupwise with BlackBerry Server Version 4.1.4.28 and I have problems synchronizing the state of the mails read when the PDA's are turned off, summing up if a user reads a post on the Groupwise system in line with the PDA turned off, when you turn on your PDA mail marked as not read this, but everything else is working properly.
We tried to force the synch but neither works.

You aren't explicitly telling the program to repaint itself when you click the button. Otherwise, the only time paintComponent is called is when the object becomes visible, or when it's resized (and the system automatically tells it to repaint).
I tried modifying your code a little and got it to work by passing the TrafficSubPanel as an argument in the constructor for ButtonListener, then stored that as a local variable in the ButtonListener class and when the actionPerformed method is called, just call myPanel.repaint().
There might be other, more standardized ways of doing this though, I'm not sure.

  • PowerMac G4 won't power on after RAM upgrade

    Hey all,
Had a friend of mine e-mail me with a problem. He recently attempted a RAM upgrade for his PowerMac G4 (sorry I don't have more specifics), he had 2x256MB sticks with an open slot and tried to put in a 512MB stick. When he did this, the computer wouldn't start (hit the power button and it lights up but the machine turns right off).
He tried leaving the computer unplugged for 15+ minutes as well as resetting the CUDA via its little grey button on the mainboard. Nada.
He also tried starting the machine with just the new RAM and putting the old RAM back in as it was ... neither would work.
I suggested it may be the battery on the mainboard, to which he has ordered and it waiting.
I was just curious if there are any other ideas?

when you say bad power supply how did you come to that conclusion...i just had a problem where i attempted to install the ram as per instructions...it caught some sort of flat power strip inside the bay and pushed it into the recepticle..i know of people having problems with the ram seating so i pushed and pushed....and eventually broke the wires...now i have no power. i dont know what the wire was but from the power of deduction i realized it was important....as my macbook is now a brick

  • Can't send mail after mavericks upgrade

    MacPro user (mid2010)
I am using a third party email address and am currently with O2 Broadband. Since upgrading to Mavericks, I am unable to send emails using the Mail app.
My outgoing mail server is: relay.o2broadband.co.uk
And I'm using the default ports.
I am aware that O2 Broadband customers are being moved over to Sky but my account is still with O2 right now.
I can send mail just fine on my Laptop which is still running OSX 10.7 so I'm fairly convinced this issue has something to do with Mavericks.
Anyone else suffering the same issues? I'd really appreciate any advice anyone can offer.

Before I finally got it working (and I'm not even sure how), I tried PostBox and Airmail and had the exact same outgoing mail problem.  So it appears that there is something more fundamental in the OS happening.  From a couple of these other threads (and I read them all out of desperation...) it sounds like there's some funky sync thing that has to happen with certain host email configs, and Mavericks doesn't do it perfectly at first.  Somehow (yes I'm showing my tech ignorance) some configs require a login to IMAP/POP3 immediately before allowing access to the SMTP to send, presumably in another attempt to block sending spam by third parties.  The timing of the dual login has to be tighter in Mavericks?  But this aligns with my experience in that an account (I had three that had problems) would receive an email and them boom the SMTP would work.  So I tried sending an email from my phone to be received on the problem account and tried to send from that account right at the same time, and somehow it worked.  Once it worked, it stayed working.  However I still cannot get SSL (port 465) to work - I had to change everything to non-SSL on port 25 or 26.  Even though my iPhone and iPad will work...

  • After Mavericks upgrade Mail 7 not automatically fetching new emails

    Hello,
Since the Mavericks upgrade, Mail is not anymore automatically fetching new emails, but at the initial lauch.
I tried to modifity the settings, from 'Automatic', to 5 minute, to 15 minutes, stopping Mail and starting again each time but it does not help.
Emails are fetched only after the lauch of Mail, and when I manually ask Mail to do it.
    It's really annoying.
I saw on French forums, that I'm not the only user reporting this, but I don't see many posts on the Apple forum with the exact same issue.
I don't know what to do to fix/find a workround for this problem.
If someone has any idea, I'm more than open to try it.

Try this workaround until Apple fixes it.
Copy this into a plain text file (i.e TextExit in plain text mode)
    Save as com.yourname.Checkmail.plist to ~/Library/LaunchAgents/

  • After Mavericks upgrade, Mail.app doesn't show messages in Sent Items

I upgraded to Mavericks this morning and Mail.app is not displaying messages in the Sent folder.
I have 2 Gmail accounts set up and the messages are present in the All Mail folder but they're not displayed in Sent. They were definitely there before the upgrade.
Has anyone else seen this happen ? I have TM backups that I can get to but I tried restoring the folder for the account with little success.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • [SOLVED] Huge power consumption after kernel upgrade.

    Dear All,
I have recently bought the new lenovo thinkpad X1 equipped with a Core I5 processors and 4GB of RAM.
I am quite satisfied with this machine except for the fact that the fan is extremely loud (but perhaps a bios upgrade will fix problem).
    Now my problem:
When I first installed Arch (first days of August) I ran powertop and the power consumption was around 10 Watts when idle with wifi card turned off.
Now, after some upgrades, the power consumption raises to 18W in idle and consequently the battery lasts less than 2h.
    Here my current configuration:
    Linux think-x1 3.0-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Aug 30 08:53:25 CEST 2011 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
and here the powertop output obtained with the cpu frequency governor set to "On demand":

As far as I'm concerned, the kworker process is responsible most of the wakeups.
    Any ideas?

enabling it by default in 3.0 caused regressions for some people, so it was

default in 3.1 / 2.6.41 (until then, you'll have to set it by hand).

I've tried verifying the disk, and repairing the desk, but can't find a fix.  It won't launch at all ever since the Mavericks upgrade.

If you did not install the software following the upgrade but did some form of transfer or migration then you should probably uninstall and then use the Cleaner Tool.  After that install using the discs or a downloaded set  of installation files.

  • Why does mail keep crashing after Mavericks upgrade

    and do i resolve?

A general repair to fix odd behaviours in Mail is  Mailbox > Rebuild.
You can try restoring Mail from a Time Machine backup.
Hold down the Option key and in the Finder Go > Library
    Enter Time Machine.
Select a date before the Mavericks upgrade.
    Restore Mail.

  • T440S screen suddenly turns blue-grey and I had to force it to power off

(Updated with Event Viewer logs. Not sure if they are relevant. See the end of the message, right before the picture)
This computer is less than 1 year old and has already given me several problems. This is the the most recent one. Basically, the screen suddenly turns dark blue (or is it grey?) and the cursor also disappears from the screen and the computer becomes unresponsive (See the attached picture below). And I had to press and hold the power button to force the computer to shut down and then to power on again.
This is not the blue screen of death that people talk about (as there is no warning text), although the BSOD has happened to me a couple of times as well
This problem has happened twice so far. Now, in both cases, I was editing and saving fairly large WORD documents (Word version 2013; About 600 pages of document and Size at 0.6 mb). The document was being saved, and suddenly this happened.
Mine is Windows 7 with all the latest updates installed and the memory is 8 GB.
Anyone can give some insights on what this is and why it happened?
    Thanks!

I am posting below the two events from Events Viewer that were generated at the same time the problem occurred. Even assuming they are the cause, I still do not understand why the errors led to the observed problem, that is, the screen going blue and computer becoming unresponsive).

  • My apple mail has an error message and won't open after iTunes update 6/20/14

I have a MacBook 13 Aluminum using Mountain Lion/MavericksX. Soon after I did a random update for iTunes mid June 2014 I noticed that I could no longer open my mail on my desktop. I did tell Apple about it when the error message came up, but I haven't heard anything and the last update 7/1/14 didn't help. I can use Entourage, but I like Apple mail better. Any ideas? Yow

I had all but given up on the Apple mail. Then I remembered that I hadn't checked it since my last X update yesterday. So, I tried and of course, APPL fixed it. Apple is so fantastic. Sorry but there is no problem to work on.

Well I feel a bit silly about this. I gave up on Apple mail and was using Entourage. Yesterday I did the most recent update from APPL and hadn't checked to see if they'd come up with a fix. I'd written them to ask about it because the error occurred after the iTunes update so I figured there was a bug. I just opened it, and poof, apple mail again. It did go through something and dinged and opened. Thank you for writing me. Y
