Mail hyperlink

I don't seem to be able to create a functional hyperlink for a different person's email address using Mail. I can create using the same pulldown "Add hyperlink", functional links that open a url, but no go if it's an email address I awant the receipent to automatically open when it is clicked on.  Is this the nature of the beast, that hyperlink only will link to URL's in browsers, but not open in the appropriate mail app?

When I want to create an url hyperlink I insert the url into the hyperlink box, I assumed the same work for generating an email address hyperlink. Do I add the mailto: when I insert the address? I will try that.

    Hello,
i'm facing already for some time an issue that i can get solved unfortunately.
After OS update towards mountian lion (i believe, but not sure), a hyperlink in an email is opened in Safari, but my screen is not automatically swapping towards safari from mail. Not if i'm working on the desktop, nor working in full screen mode. I need to move manually to the other screen, to see the webpage opening.
In the past it was working, but I can't find the settings to get this solved. Today I've update to Yosemite, and it didn't solve this for me.

  • Browser won't launch when e-mailed hyperlink is "clicked" and a dialogue box appears entitled "Locate Link Browser." It used to just automatically launch Firefox or, if already running, a new tab would open. Any ideas?

My e-mail client is MSOffice Outlook 2003. Until recently I never had any trouble opening a browser window by clicking on the hyperlink within an e-mail message. I contacted MS and was informed that they can only help if I want to use MS IE as my browser. They told me that the problem isn't within Outlook but is instead a configuration problem with Firefox. I can only think that a recent auto-update to Firefox did something unwanted that is causing the problem. Your help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • E-mail hyperlink problem.,,

So I'm trying to create a contact page, and it worked perfectly, got my colors correct (I'm picky on colors looking good) except for some reason it added a letter in the middle of my e-mail address so e-mails bounce back to the sender when they use the link on my website. Unfortunatly, now I can not create a hyperlink with my e-mail and all it does is add the link of [email protected] instead of the link I am constantly trying to type into the hyperlink box. I need some support on how to fix it and also how to choose the colors.
Another method I tried was to just type my e-mail address in, and that worked except for the colors don't work now. Please help. Thanks.

Just delete the hyperlink that is incorrect. Go to where it is and simply use the back space key and you can delete it or highlight it and use the Cut or Delete option from Edit.
Just type in the text again and then highlight the text and open Hyperlink and select the e-mail option and your e-mail address should be there automatically. If not, just change it in the box and then select Format to choose your colours for rollover etc.
It is really as simple as that.

  • Out going mail  - Hyperlinks

Often I receive an e-mail that references an attached link.
In responding I attach the original mail and link.
While writing my reply, I try to reference the link for my answer.
Guess what Out Going mail will not let you reference a hyperlink be it a new mail or reply.
Tiger (still on my laptop) doesn't have this problem. Am I doing something wrong?

(....I still don't know what you're talking about. I can right-click on a link in Mail and it gives me a variety of ways to open it. Does this not happen for you?)
I'll say it again. I open a new mail. I type a word. I highlight it. I go to the Edit Menu and down to Link -> "Add" and paste in a web address.
Then I go back to the e-mail I'm typing - And Yes Its blue and underlined. I click on it - NOTHING!
And yes it will open for the receiver of the e-mail. Why do I care if it doesn't open for me? If nothing else, maybe I just want to verify I pasted in the right hyperlink.
Did you get it this time??

  • Iphone mail hyperlink created events don't update to outlook calendar

I created an event using a hyperlink in mail on my iphone. The event never sync'd to my ipad or outlook (active sync and exchange). After a support call to apple(with no results) and spending some time and about $175.00 with an outside IT person, we found the problem. When we deleted the location information, the event would immediately show up in outlook and any other mobile devices syncing to that calendar. I am speculating that there are some characters that either the iphone or exchange does not like in this locaion field. The iphone picked up all of the location characters automatically through the hyperlink in mail. I just started using this hyperlink feature and really like how quickly i can create an event......so much for that unless i delete or clean up the location field.
    Hope this helps someone

there are many posts on this subject.. I myself had the problem and fixed it with a manual and not elegant process... but it works.
Exchange-Outlook have many documented issues with recurring appointments and users with more than one device: either a desktop + laptop or a laptop+smartphone, or laptop+iPhone, etc. The issue gets bigger if there are delegates with access to same account.
Outlook 2007 had many issues to sync with devices (whether or not iPhone was not the issue). they reportedly fixed those issues with Outlook 2007 SP1 released few months ago. After installing that SP1 I had no more problems... until recurring appointments created again that malfunction you describe
AFAIK the best workaround is to manually delete the corrupted recurring appointments. recurring appointments get corrupted very frequently. You can change the view on outlook calendar and show only corrupted appointments or recurring appointments and fix the issues. Not elegant but works.
Dave Whitehouse summarized the process as follows:
"This was my solution to this problem.
I found that my calendar entries were totaling over 86meg. To see your calendar size select Tools, Mailbox Cleanup.., View Mailbox Size.. Then select Close, Close to get out.
To view and delete old calendar entries do the following:
    Select Calendar on the navpane.
Select View, Arrange by, Current View, By Category,
You may sort by End time. Some of my old meetings were several years old and they had attachments. I selected from the top and went down to about a week previous and the pressed the delete key.
I exited Outlook, not sure if this is needed and restarted it. I then sync'd from iTunes and it worked."

  • Mail Hyperlinks breaks during rendering

Hi, there. I'm composing a message in Mail. I add a hyperhlink in the usual way. The hyperlink is specifically http://www.tonyakay.com/gallery/index2.html#5216418377758916353/1
However when I click on said hyperlink, Mail has replaced the # sign in the URL with a % sign. Now the hyperlink is broken.
I go back into the hyperlink to correct the character replacement and it displays as correct (with the # sign in tact).
Why is Mail replacing # with % in my hyperlink, why does it only display in the text (not the hyperlink entry option) and how do I keep this from happening so I can use active hyperlinks consistently?
    Thanks for offering your insight!

    Tonyakay,
You are reporting that you are using Tiger (10.4.11) -- is this correct. This is known to happen with certain URLs in Mail 2.x when creating a Hyperlink, containing the # sign. I tested in Mail 2.1.3 with your link, and the same thing happened. In Mail 3.5 in Leopard your rather long URL is not accepted when pasted in to make a hyperlink, whereas shorter links, containing the # is accepted and now works perfectly.
So the behavior has somewhat been corrected in Leopard and Mail 3.x, but there apparently is some limit on either length, per se, or with length plus certain characters. The better handling of HTML in the Leopard is at work in the improved behavior.
Btw, it is not merely that the # is changed to a %, but also digits are added following the %.
Sorry to not have a better report.
If you are in fact using 10.4.11 and Mail 2.1.3, then perhaps if you post in the forum for Mail & Address Book in Tiger, you might get additional answers and info -- see:

  • Safari invisible from Mail hyperlink

Using Lion, when I click on a hyperlink in a Mail message, Safari starts, but the web page never appears. I can see its title in Safari's list of open pages, but the page itself is invisible. If I copy the URL and paste it into the Safari address line, it opens fine. Ideas? Yes, I have looked on the other desktops in Mission Control. Not there.

    More info:
It seems to be the screen going to sleep, not the computer. When I come back and touch the mouse or the keyboard, as the screen lights up, there is a flash of the web pages I left up, then they vanish.
    Yikes!!!

  • How do I add an e-mail hyperlink? (v3.2)

I have watched an Adobe video showing how to create hyperlinks.
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-adobe-muse-cc/creating-a-hyperlink-in-muse/
The video is easy to understand.
I create the text and highlight it, however, I can not get the Hyperlink box to open to enable me to enter any kind of text, either for a simple URL or a mailto:
    I am baffled.
Would anyone be able to help?
    Thanks,
    Bruce

    Hi Bruce
You'd need to select the text and then hyperlink dropdown should allow you to any mailto address or link.
If still you cannot select the link , then please let me know if you are inserting the text in any widget or any specific page element.
    Please upload screenshots
    Thanks,

  • Last software update makes mail hyperlinks crash safari.

Don't let the windows people taht u know about this, but just ran a Safari update and a firmware update for my NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 graphics card. Now, clicking on hyperlinks in an AppleMail messages shuts down safari. after it's shut down, can double click on the same link and successfully open the desired page.
Also, the screen does not seem as bright and the text is more dark gray with less contrast then the pure sharp black it was before clicking on software upgrade.
    anyone else having this problem?

    Thank You for your reply.
Good idea, I repaired permissions ( after the fact). That didn't work but i haven't restarted the machine yet. I'm currently finishing u a Final Cut project so I will hold off resetting the PRAM.
I can make new tabs but I can't create a new browser page . Also, before the update i noticed that the tool bar is shifted to the right about 2 inches and I can't force it back .

There is no mail sent to the person who wants to complete the form later on.
    reason?
too many fields to be completed?

I haven't used  Matt Wright's scripts in this century, but I'm pretty sure that Perl still needs to go into your CGI bin and the permissions level (chmod) must be set to 755 or possibly 777 for the script to read, write & execute.

  • Firefox opens when I click on a hyperlink in an e-mail in my Outlook 2003 program, but does not go to the URL in the link. It used to work before I re-installed my MS XP Pro 64 bit OS. Help!

At first, after I re-installed the OS, nothing would happen when I clicked on an e-mail hyperlink. So I went to Folder Options in Control Panel and associated Firefox with the E-mail file type. Firefox then opened when I clicked on a hyperlink in an e-mail, but just opens to the Firefox start page ("Blank page"). Firefox does not open the URL in the hyperlink. I need guidance as to how to restore this function which worked perfectly before I had to re-install the OS due to a corrupted program installer. I have run the MS Office Detect and Repair function twice--both times indicating that everything is fine--but it does not make a difference in fixing the Firefox function.
NEW: An attempt to click on the link in Security Center to go to Microsoft Update brings up an error message that reads: "The requested lookup key was not found in any active activation context." I have no idea what this means, but I suspect it is related to the lack of ability to open Firefox to a link URL.
See the uploaded screen print(JPEG) below.
UPDATE: PROBLEM SOLVED!! Searched on error message on line, solution fixed problem. THANKS ANYWAY

    # Yes, if you go to accounts.firefox.org, sign out, you will now be signed out.
    # Sign back in, and you will be asked to save the password you entered.
    # This will save the password and autocomplete if you have this option turned on.
I am not exactly sure why the menu did not detect the password change or if it was stored incorrectly after you changed it? But after storing the correct password you can manage any duplicate passwords in the password manager.[[Password manager - Remember, delete and change saved passwords in Firefox]]

  • Mail 1.3.11 Creating hyperlink for a non-URL

Sorry for what might be a simple question, but I have looked in the on-line help, thru all of the menus, and then on this board and can not find an answer.
I am looking to make specific text in an e-mail hyperlinked so that upon clicking on the text, the reader (clicker) is sent to a pre-determined URL which is not showing in the e-mail. Is this possible wiht my version of Mail?
Any help would be much appreciated. Many Thanks.

Don’t know about Mail 1.x, but in Mail 2.x you can select the text you want to become the link, do Edit > Add Hyperlink, and type (or paste) the URL there. Be sure to include the protocol prefix in the URL, e.g. http://www.somewhere.com instead of just www.somewhere.com, or mailto:[email protected] instead of just [email protected]
For Mail to actually insert the HTML tag necessary for the link to work, you must compose the message as Rich Text. Otherwise, if Plain Text is used instead (which I wish everybody did), the HTML tag is stripped off when sending the message.
Frankly, IMO it’d be better to compose your message as Plain Text and just include the URL within angle brackets where appropriate, e.g. <http://www.somewhere.com>.
BTW, if you’re using Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), it would have been more appropriate to discuss this in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum. If the discussion applies to both Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, it doesn’t really matter, but it’s difficult to know that in advance.
