Mail icon doesn't let me send emails

I've had my macbook a few years now and everything has been working fine, until a few days/weeks ago. My mail icon on my taskbar doesn't let me send emails any more. it receives emails and has always worked in the past, but now I have to log in to the internet and google to send emails, which has limited abilities compared to the mail icon. I have recently updated my operating system to Yosemite, any ideas ?

The message below is what appears a couple of minutes after I click send. I'm having problems because I haven't changed anything within my settings and it used to work previously

The SMTP connection to server smtp.gmail .com failed.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.

I understand your issue very well, only there is no solution but to use the provided tools in iOS 8.
It looks like Apple blocked large email attachments completely for any app. I cannot mail any file larger than 10 MB in any way from my iPad or iPhone, neither photos nor videos. all ill bring up this warning.
Since downgrading to iOS 7 and the earlier GarageBand version is not supported by Apple, you can only send feedback to Apple and report a usability problem and request a feature change.

BTW: none of my friends or family members can receive attachments larger than 10MB. It is only our university network that allows to mail larger files.

Mail doesn't let me send emails with attachments

I have any issues with mail on OS X Lion. I can't seem to send emails that have attachments to them such as photos. Sometimes I can't even send a simple email with text only. Also, I can't send emails to addresses that are @ymail.com. Please Help.

The mail program won't let me send email

I keep getting a message telling me it cannot connect for 1 reason or another to the smtp server. and now a different one saying "The connection to the server “smtp.comcast.net” on port 110 timed out."
If I change it to port 25, I get the same message except it says 25 instead of 110. It has just started doing this since Comcast bought out Road Runner, and I was forced to change my email address. Comcast tells me they don't know much about Macs. Can anyone help me? Thanx, tooley (pat)

Did you update the password for your account on the iPod Touch as well? Perhaps you should head to your Mail settings and re-enter the password. See this article for more help on adjusting or changing your mail settings.

I updated my iPhone 4S with ios 7 and it wont let me send emails.

After I updated my iPhone, it wouldn't let me send emails. I keep getting a message that says "The conection to the outgoing server "smtp.gmail.com" failed. Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars. I tried turning on/off the different server options, but nothing has worked. Help!

Yes, several times with support from the local server, verizon support people and apple support. I wonder if the phone is faulty? Neither my hotmail or local work email accounts will send, only receive.

Ah! Unfortunately, I'm on a company computer and can't just try these things myself. If that's the issue, I can ask our admins and they'll do it, but I want to make sure I've exhausted anything that could be a small fix.

Try ctrl+clik the icon and select Quit.
Then start the app again by clicking the icon.

Hi BD Aqua, yeah it's okay just a false alarm, i changed my internet service provider to BE broadband a few days ago and they didn't tell me that i had to change the outgoing mail server smtp settings in order for emails to go out, something to do with dynamic ip address, and how they block port 25 for dynamic users? or something. anyway, entered the new settings and all seems tickity boo now.

I"m using OSX Lion and Mail App.
Normaly everything works good but now when i want to send a message, there is a speedy popup that dissapear and the mail go to draft and NEVER send.
There is a workaround for that ?
I made any change on my Mail app i try to understand what's happened.
The speedy pop up is too fast to read anything on it.

delete the file homedirectory/library/preferences/byhost/com.apple.screensaver....
and log out/in. set your screensaver preferences again and see if they stick.

Dragging an images from Safari to the mail Icon doesn't embed image

Hi all - I was wondering if there was a way to change the following default functionality:
If I drag an image to the Mail icon in the dock, it will open an email with the address of the image as text.
What i want is for the image to be embedded in the email.
I can go to Mail, open a new mail, then go back to safari and drag the image and it works fine, but I'd just rather have that happen when I drag the image to the Mail icon.
Any suggestions?
