Mail ignores jpegs?

I use Mail with several gmail accounts. When sending an email with a jpeg attached from my computer everything acts normally, the jpeg attaches properly, I can see it it in my mail window, but on the other end the jpeg is nowhere to be found. The mail appears normal in my "Sent" folder, but if I look at it through the gmail web access there is no attachment. This only happens with jpeg files, PDFs, text files, excel files, etc. all go through with no problem. Anyone have any ideas why?

Just an FYI, I'm on 10.6.4 and have been for awhile. Before posting on this thread, I confirmed with Mail on my 2008 Macbook Pro and 2009 Mini, both on 10.6.4. I don't have any other answer for you, but as you suspect it may be one of the other updates installed at the same times as 10.6.4, but not necessarily the 10.6.4 update itself.

when I email photos from my iphone, firefox will not let me open them in yahoo.mail as jpeg images, only firefox documents

Two weeks ago I posted this, but no one replied telling me how to correct the problem.
I think Firefox engineers need to improve Firefox between now and the next up-date to make it adequate to handle all major websites. There aren't many websites used by as many people as yahoo. So why have Firefox engineers ignored this deficiency in Firefox?

  • Mail ignores my rule regarding header

    Hi,
I added a rule in Mail:
    If Delivered-To Contains moderator
    then
Set Colour of Background to Red
I am subscibed to a mailing list and to know whether or not to CC somebody the Delivered-To heading has moderator for [email protected] in it:
    List-Help: <mailto:[email protected]>
    List-Unsubscribe: <mailto:[email protected]>
    List-Post: <mailto:[email protected]>
    Delivered-To: mailing list [email protected]
    Delivered-To: moderator for [email protected]
Mail ignores my rule, any ideas why?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
So because there are two you don't think I can write a rule just based on one of them?
Every e-mail on this list has the first Delivered-To: header on it so there's not much I can do about that...
    Any suggestions?

  • Mac mail sending jpegs to a PC not sent as an attachment

When I send an email with images as jpegs they are not able to see them as an attachment.  When they are revived on a pc in live mail they are stripped of the name and given a different name. My friends can not save them as a jpeg. If I send them in a folder they arrived in live mail as zipped.
My friends tell me that Mac is making the changes. When sending to another Mac everything is fine.
Does anyone have an explanation what is going on?  I am on lion when I was on snow leopard there was no problem. All of this seems to be since I switched to lion.
    Thank you

Do you tick the bottom box 'Send as Windows-Frienly Attachment' when choosing the attachment?

  • Mac Mail Shortening Jpeg Segments

    Hi,
I recently installed a CCTV system that emails pictures. I correctly setup the email, and can receive the pictures with no problem on my iPad, Droid phone, and pretty much every other device.
When I open the email with Mac Mail, the picture cannot be recognized. It says that the jpeg segment is too short. When I save it, it says the same thing. I've tried to using Adobe PS5, with no avail.
However, with the same MBPro, when I open that same email using google directly I can both see the picture in the email and download/open it successfully.
I tried using attachment tamer, but that didn't do the trick.
    I'm running a 15" MBP, with standard Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3. and a 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7. Mail is Version 5.2 (1257).
    Regards

I have the same problem!!! Anyone have suggestions?

  • Attaching pictures to e-mail as jpeg

I am trying to attach pics as  jpeg files to an outgoing e-mail using Apple Mail and they appear as pictures. I tried to select "Format-Make plain text", but the recipient (who has MS Outlook) says they came embedded as pictures. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Randy

You have to use attachment tamer
    http://lokiware.info/Attachment-Tamer
    Its free to try
or right-click on the image and select view as icon from the pop up menu
Or do not use HTML formatted mail

  • Apple mail ignores password protection

Since upgrading to 10.9 my apple mail and outlook ignore the password protection and just opens the email. I recently installed Outlook and the same thing happens. ***!!!!!!
Also I now see why the upgrade was free. It installs all kinds of stuff I don't even want.

My apple mail has always asked for a password if launching. With 10.9 upgrade it doesn't work anymore. Also trying to get an attachment out of email now is a real pain. I've figured out its not the mail program itself that is screwed up, its Maverick. Hope for a patch soon.

  • Mail receives JPEG as win.dat

When I am sent an email that contains a JPEG, Mail receives it as an winmail.dat. This is fairly new. Is there some setting that has changed? Or is the issue on the other end (sender, Windows Outlook 2013)?

I understand what you are saying and thank you for the response. I forgot to mention that in this scenerio I am the one sending and receiving the file's in question, and am sending to more people than just myself. What makes this more interesting is that the other recepients so far are receiving the JPEG's with out error. I seem to be the only one that is receiving the winmail.dat. Thank You in advance for your assistance.

  • IPad Mail ignores Delete = Never

When I delete email from iPad Mail it also deletes from POP3 account, even though Settings are Delete = Never.
I have repeatedly removed the account, reset the iPad, then again set up the mail account. However, it always ignores this setting. I have several POP3 accounts, each on different servers, and iPad deletes mail from each despite the settings.
Does Delete=Never work on POP3 for anybody out there? I have not had this problem with my iPhones.

    Hi Maggot
I have a 3G iPad. I am currently only using wireless as I haven't researched the 3G plans yet, but if you have only wireless, perhaps your settings are different.
Under advanced, at the top of the screen, there is a heading that says 'mailbox behaviors', with three options under it: 'drafts mailbox' 'sent mailbox' and 'trash mailbox'.
When I chacked the setting for my yahoo account, I noticed that I have fewer options. Among the variations, I still get 'trash mailbox' but no 'sent mailbox'.
Perhaps the settings vary depending on what sort of email account you are using.
I did find out that with my ISP account, it wasn't downloading my emails to my iPad so much as allowing me to view my account online. Like logging directly into your ISP when you are using a public computer. When I hit delete, it is deleting the emails from my ISP server (based on the settings I described in my earlier post). When I turn my regular computer on and open Outlook, all my email downloads to my computer, except what I deleted from the server using iPad. Only as soon as I download to my computer, those emails are no longer accessible on the iPad. I can no longer view emails downloaded to my computer on my iPad as it's no longer on my ISP server. This is likely why you can't just hit delete on the iPad, and why delete from the server does allow you to delete instead of that annoying message telling you you can't. Hope that made sense.
Its annoying I can't view the email on my iPad after downloading to my computer, because I am loving how email displays on the iPad. I might be able to look at changing my computer settings to leave a copy on the server when it downloads my email. I'm sure I've seen that somewhere. Shouldn't be a problem as my iPad can delete from the server.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. If you haven't got the same settings as I have, I'm not sure how to fix it for you. Hopefully some if this info will help you, though.

  • Something is wrong with default mail account. Mail ignores the default one and uses another.

Hi! I use two accounts on Mail: @gmail.com and @mail.ru. The @mail.ru is used as default. So all answers have to be sent from mail.ru, however it is not - they go from @gmail.com. What is wrong?

When I reply to emails that were sent to my business account, Mail automatically responds using my .mac email address. It will not reply using my business account.
Very frustating and time consuming, having to go to the drop-down menu of email accounts, select my business account and then reply.
Did not work this way before the "upgrade."
Any solutions from anyone or from Apple??

  • Mail Ignores "Manual" Setting

Tried searching for this topic, but can't seem to find the right combo of words to get an accurate hit. Anyway, I have Mail set to check for new mail manually. However, I have my Activity window open at all times and I keep seeing Mail "ping" the server maybe every 15 minutes. Naturally, if there is new email, it goes ahead and retrieves it from the server. I tried checking my MobileMe account to see if anything is set up there, but found no particular setting for "pushing" or "syncing" to my Desktop account. I have my Sync settings in System Preferences to check once a day, but that should not be the culprit since I don't have Mail Accounts checked.
Is anyone else having this "problem?" It's not really giving me any headaches, but I figure Mail should be following the preferences I set rather than "doing its own thing." Suggestions?

Do you mean this happens once when you launch Mail.app, or it continues to happen periodically after you've launched the application and while it continues to run?
If it's the former, this is a known issue that Apple introduced with 10.9 Mail.app; you can try filing a bug at https://bugreport.apple.com - they closed mine as a duplicate of an existing bug (14155759) when i filed 11 months ago and proceeded to do nothing about it through the 10.9.1 - 10.9.5 releases.

  • Apple Mail ignoring SMTP defaults - won't send out.

For a couple of weeks, my Mail App has been behaving badly on sending out emails. I have several accounts set up, one uses mac.com, it works. But, my business emails use Bellsouth as the outgoing mail server, because I have DSL through them.
In preferences, the business accounts have bellsouth.net as the SMTP, with port 25 and no authentication. When I send email, I get an error message showing ONLY the mac account as an outgoing server, even though bellsouth is the specified SMTP server for that account. I have discarded the outgoing mailbox accounts under home/library/mail/mailboxes many times. I have tried changing the port to 587 as suggested in another thread. I can send mail from the bellsouth web page. Nothing helps.

The following is a drastic step but it may resolve the problem since you have tried everything else I know to try besides targeting the Mail.app preference file.
Quit the Mail.app first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Note: Moving the com.apple.mail.plist file out of the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
The only exception to this will be if you have a .Mac account and/or if you provided email account information as part of the computer setup assistant.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information the same as before, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailboxes at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old com.apple.mail.plist file from the Desktop.
Test if this resolves the problem.

  • Mail with jpeg won't finish sending!

    Hope someone can help!
I have been using an imac with OSX10.3.9 quite happily for some time now but I've recently bought an ibook with OSX10.4.3 - I can send emails from both but for some reason I now only seem to be able to send emails with jpeg attachments from the ibook.
The old imac starts to send them as normal and usually gets to something like 20% complete before timing out. Any suggestions much appreciated!

  • Mail ignores setting to check mail manually

Before downloading to Mail I prefer to check what is on the server so I can delete unwanted professional email and have only the ones I want come through to my computer.  This has worked very well in the past when I've set Mail to check for new mail "Manually".  But in recent years and OS's it fetches mail without waiting for me to click the "Get Mail" icon.
The only work around I've found is to un-click the "Enable this account" button in Mail Preferences.  This is a royal pain and takes extra time going back and forth from my email to Account Preferences, and when the account is not "enabled" I cannot see all of it's content in Mail.  Sometimes I have to turn off wifi to view my content without having it fetch unwanted email, another nuisance work around.
Why does Apple have a "Check Mail Manually" setting if it does not work???  Why does Apple assume everyone wants to download all of the email that arrives on the server?  What happened to giving us a choice?  Please bring back the user-friendly Apple that I grew to appreciate and now miss.

Do you mean this happens once when you launch Mail.app, or it continues to happen periodically after you've launched the application and while it continues to run?

  • I receive e-mail attachments " win mail.dat" from iPhones and iPads. All I can find is that Outlook users send these e-mails. I found "letter opener" and it helps but I'd rather receive jpeg in stead from my Apple friends

Last week I suddenly started receiving all e-mails with photo attachments from other iPad and iPhone users (on my iMac, iPhone as well as iPad!)  as " winmail.dat" files. It says everywhere that that is caused by Outlook users sending RTF e-mails. Obviousely that is not the case here. I found an app to open the attachments, but of course that is no real solution. I asked Android and MS Outlook users to send me e-mails with JPEG attachments and the arrive aas they should.
Does anyone know the answer to this?
    Jos Korver

By the way, some non-delivery receipts (NDRs) are themselves spam messages with malicious attachments designed to infect your computer, so be cautious about opening any of those.
