Mail imap settings

Keep getting message saying my settings are wrong - server timed out - but they are not wrong - any ideas anyone please?

With the automatic mail wizard on the N97-1 the usual mailbox it creates is in fact an IMAP, you have not said if you have tried using the wizard as yet, so perhaps try it first. Once created you will be able to go and view the settings and will be able to see it if created an IMAP mailbox or not.
If it does not create an IMAP mailbox then the easiest way of doing it would be as follows:
Go to create a new mailbox, when prompted to enter an e-mail address enter in a random address like [email protected] for instance, the wizard is only able to create mailboxes automatically for well known mailboxes like Yahoo, Google etc, if the domain name is different as is the case here "paper" it will ask you to enter the settings maunally. You can then configure the mailbox to be IMAP and enter your IMAP server name etc.
Once you have done this you will just need to go into the mailbox settings and change the "e-mail address and reply to e-mail address" from [email protected] to your actual e-mail address and all should be fine from there.

  • Cannot uncheck mail IMAP settings (not gmail)

Am running Mavericks 10.9.1, and accessing a mailbox hosted at my ISP with IMAP. No GMAIL.
Configuration has been working fine, until last day or so when noticed that Mail.app has created some new folders and has checked all of the "store messages on server" options - seemingly by itself. Agh! They can be unchecked but automatically recheck themselves again.
I do not want to store sent messages, draft messages, trash on server!
How can I uncheck these settings and get them to stay unchecked ... please.

Thank you. I found and ran that utility—both the verify and the repair options. Several repairs were made during the process. Unfortunately, this action did not affect the core problem. I rebooted after running the repair, and the problem was still present when I tried to uncheck the options in mail.app.
I have not knowingly upgraded any software, in the last four days since this behaviour started. Could it be a virus or something? The sending of data to the hosted system is cluttering my mailbox there and consuming my bandwitdh, neither of which I am happy about.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • SMTP offline when adding Yahoo IMAP settings in Mail. Ports are correct as is password. Suggestions as to the problem?

SMTP "offline" indicated under Mail/Preferences/Accounts for Yahoo IMAP, when adding Yahoo IMAP settings in Mail. Ports are correct as is password. Suggestions as to the problem? Latest OS with patches...
I can log into Yahoo via URL, so Mail should work as well.

Run Connection Doctor, what does it say?
I can log into Yahoo via URL, so Mail should work as well.
Nope, no correlation between them (other than password)

  • Does Mail automatically seek IMAP settings?

Does Mail automatically seek IMAP settings over POP?
I'm having ongoing probs with IMAP with Sky and it's Google inspired webmail and I have tried the POP settings but nothing happens, just get the ~ next to the account.
I have asked Sky why their POP settings dont work [waiting for a reply] but every time I have created a new account Mail seems to seek the IMAP options first.
If Mail does default to IMAP, is there a way that I can create a new account and me tell it which type of account to define?

Basically I want to do the reverse of what is discussed here.

  • Sbcglobal(yahoo) and POP3/IMAP Settings to Keep/Remove From Mail Server

First iPhone and I've researched and can't seem to find a clear answer to probably a simple question.
I have set up two email accounts (one work/one personal) on the iPhone. I'm not clearly understanding the Advanced Mail Server Settings on Removing Deleted Messages. The options listed are "Never", "After One Day", "After One Week", "After One Month".
First, if I select one of these options and then later download the mail to my laptop, how does that affect what's been download to the iPhone? Will it sync again with what's on the mail server? Which, after downloading to the laptop, would be nothing and remove what's in my iPhone inbox? (No Exchange Servers in use unfortunately.)
And, this same question would apply to any I've deleted from the iPhone. Would the iPhone then sync again with the mail server and remove the deleted message from there -- so it would not be downloaded to the laptop?
I hope I've made sense. Any extra explanation on how these settings work would be sincerely appreciated.

That's not how IMAP works. If you want to keep the inbox clean, but not delete the messages, create folders and move the messages into them for later review.

  • Mail - IMAP folders not showing up in folder list

I have several mac mail imap folders and a few of them are not showing all imap folder - yet I can use move to folder to move emails to that folder.  Any ideas?

Check on the IMAP settings (Gmail.com) that Pop is disabled.
It should be in the IMAP/Mail forwarding section.
When it is enabled, folders do not show up in mac mail

  • IMAP settings

Should I change my IMAP email settings?
Verizon just emailed me with new settings to improve security:
    Incoming mail server settings
    POP server: incoming.yahoo.verizon.net
    Use SSL
    Port: 995
    Outgoing mail server SMTP settings
    SMTP server: outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
    Use SSL
    Port: 465
But these are POP settings. I use IMAP settings, as follows.
    In: imap.mail.yahoo.com - port 993
    Out: smtp.mail.yahoo.com - port 465
These settings work great for IMAP. Should I change 993 to 995 and keep the same IMAP server? Or is there a Yahoo-Verizon IMAP server that I don't know about?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Continue using your current setting. If you start having trouble accessing your email account, please switch to the POP settings.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Mail IMAP, firefox os app

    Hello,
    I'm French,
i want to use my mail account : Orange with firefox os mail app.
    "There is this error :
Unable to automatically configure your account. Correct your email adresse or try manual configuration option."
I have these informations on internet : http://assistance.orange.fr/configurer-un-logiciel-de-messagerie-en-imap-2863.php
    What do i do ?
    thks

    Hi gabigab,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having difficulties setting up the Mail application in your Firefox OS device to access your Orange email account.
What is the Firefox OS device model and version that you are currently using?
I don't understand French very well, but with the help of Google Translate, it seems that these are the correct settings for your email provider, please ensure that these are set correctly in the manual configuration of your Mail app:
    * Please ensure that your full email address and password are typed in correctly.
    * '''IMAP Settings:'''
** '''Username:''' Your username for your Orange account. Some providers require your full email address to be used as your username.
    ** '''Address:''' imap.orange.fr
    ** '''SSL'''
    ** '''Port:''' 993
    * '''SMTP Settings:'''
** '''Username:''' Your username for your Orange account. Some providers require your full email address to be used as your username.
    ** '''Address:''' smtp.orange.fr
    ** '''SSL'''
    ** '''Port:''' 465
If you are still unable to configure your Mail app with these settings, please ensure that you are able to connect to it through another email client such as Thunderbird or through the Webmail, if Orange provides this service.
We hope that this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
    Thanks!!

  • HT5330 I'm confused. Apple support person assisted me making move to Cloud, without Lion. But I never changed Mail acct settings.

I'm confused. I am in Snow Leopard and have had a .Mac (.me) address for years. I made the move to Cloud, without Lion. Had an Apple support person on the phone to assist since I wanted to be sure about not losing my email address. Got an email from Apple confirming. It says "Your mail will be moved to iCloud after June 30th. You can continue to send and receive mail at your [email protected] address after MobileMe ends on June 30, 2012."
But I never changed any Mail accountt settings. When I look at my Mail preferences-account info, it says Account Type: MobileMe IMAP, but Incoming server is still mail.me.com and Outgoing drop down shows Mail-mobile me.

Yes, shortly before the switch over on June 30, apple announced that the mail settings for the old MobileMe account would continue to work after the switch over.
Some people have found that this has not been the case and have addressed the situation by manually setting up their mail settings as follows:
Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.
Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.

  • Importing Outlook 2010 Mail account settings from one copy of Office 2010, to another copy of Office 2919

I am trying to export my E-mail ACCOUNT settings from one copy of Outlook 2010 so that I can import them in another copy of Office 2010 on a different computer.  Again, BOTH computers have Office 2010 on them.  While I can move the PST file, my
E-mail account information never comes across.  How can I do that without having to enter each account separately.  Also is it normal for the E-mail accounts to show up as DATA FILES rathan than E-MAIL FILES?  I've never come this in the past.
    Thanks.

As JHarris1993 said, this is BOSS! Thank you.
I used this solution to recreate a profile I was using under one Windows 7 account in another account on the same machine. The profile was successfully recreated but I noticed that the email accounts in the profile were still pointing to the data files from
the other account, which is not surprising at all.
Unfortunately no easy way exists for re-pointing email accounts to alternate file locations. I have five different email accounts in this profile (2 IMAP, 2 Outlook Hotmail Connector and one Exchange), and looks like there are solutions and workaround for
each type of account which work with varying degrees of success.
Changing location of pst data file for
    IMAP email account
    Changing
location of ost data file for an Exchange email account
Changing location of ost data file for a Hotmail Connector email account
    Thanks Again,
    Jaspreet

  • Mail Server Settings for Email Clients

There must be something wrong with my iCloud account but I can't figure out what it could be:
I can't add my iCloud account to third party clients (Postbox, Airmail & MailPilot) I get error messages.
I succesfully added my cousin's iCloud account in those apps, on my own iMac in all 3 apps, no problem at all, yet It doesn't work with my account even though I'm using the exact same settings in both cases!
    I'm using the following settings
    IMAP Server: imap.mail.me.com
    IMAP Port: 993
IMAP Connection Type: TLS / SSL
    IMAP Authentication: Auto Detect
    SMTP Server: smtp.mail.me.com
    SMTP Port: 587
    SMTP Connection Type: Start TLS
    SMTP Authentication: Auto Detect
    I did peruse this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4864 and tried many changes, no can do! I also tried to replace ' imap.mail.me.com ' and ' smtp.mail.me.com ' with ' p07-imap.mail.me.com ' and ' p07-smtp.mail.me.com ' (I found ' p07 ' in Mail.app settings). I also tried p04, p99... Nothing seems to work.
But then again those 3 mail clients work instantly with anyone else's iClound account, on my very iMac! (which sports OS X 10.9.2)
Other than that, no problem using my iCloud account on MAS, iTunes Store, iTunes, iOS. iCloud.com...

    They're Apples instructions, not mine.
What (if any) error messages do you get, and have you checked what is happening with Connection Doctor?
