Mail "import" from MAIL

My old imac died so I removed the hard drive and have mostly succesfully ported everything to an old mini. The one issue i have is with MAIL. I have copied over everything and placed them all in the right place but MAIL cannot see the old accounts, settings or mail in the accounts. I don't mind re-doing the settings but I would like to retrieve my old mail. MAIL's wizard sort of offers to import but it doesn't offer MAIL as an mail app to import from? If I switch to another mail app, will it import>? Thanks.

Hi, if you can see the top Mail folder on the other drive...
Mail>File>Import>Mail from OSX, choose the top Mail folder, wat for it to read all of it, then you'll be given choices of which boxes to Import.

  • STORING E-MAILS AWAY FROM .mail

I want to change my ISP but realise that if I do so I will lose all my e-mails. I have been using Mac's .mail for at least three years and have nearly 10,000 e-mails on my G4 PowerBook. (I know this sounds like madness) I have backed everything up on an Iomega external HD, but this will not prevent loss of e-mails) I search these e-mails constantly and do not want to lose any of them. I do not mind how long the process takes, but how can I shift ALL of them? Is there a way in which I can purchase a domain name and do it this way? Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thankyou.

    That's good news - I think we're getting somewhere!
The thread I actually meant was this one:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2366136&tstart=0
I was suggesting you follow the advice given by bdaqua since it seemed to work for the original poster who was having problems very like yours. However I can't vouch for any of this so I would advise you to proceed with caution and at very least first make a copy of that "Mail" folder as described in the Apple support document before you do anything you're not sure of.
In fact before you do any of that I would suggest that you try this.
Download "Thunderbird" - it's a free e-mail program from Mozilla who make the Firefox web browser and are a trustworthy source. Here's the link:
    http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/
Once you have installed it it will allow you to import e-mails from Apple's "Mail" application.
If it does so successfully and you can set it up you may just want to stick with it.
(Personally I've never got on with "Mail" but that's maybe just me!)
You can't download "Mail" you would need to reinstall from your original OSX disc and then almost certainly replace your e-mails from the backed-up original folder.
So in summary here's my advice in order of preference:
    1) Download "Thunderbird" and import from "Mail" - see how you like it. If you're OK with it stop right here! If you're still wedded to using "Mail" then continue....
    2) Back up your Mail folder in the Library. (did you ever sort out your Iomega drive I wonder??)
    3) If you feel up to it try the bdaqua solution - if it works you can then try reverting to "Mail" if you prefer it.
Above all now that we have established that your messages aren't lost BACK UP THE MAIL FOLDER!!!!!

  • Why can't I import from mail direct to iPhoto anymore? I used to be able to.

I have recently updated to Mountain Lion, but I am not sure if that is when the problem started, but I used to be able to hit the "import to iPhoto" option straight from Mail, and it would open iPhoto and import all of the attachments from my message.
This option now doesn't seem to be working.
I don't know if I have changed something in the settings by accident, or if it has something to do with the software updates.
    Any ideas?
    Nikki

From the Mail Application, any email I have received with photos attached, I used to be able to click on the Save button at the top of the message, which bought up a little drop down menu. From that menu, if I selected Add to iPhoto, it would automatically open iPhoto and add all of the attachments to iPhoto.
The drop down menu still appears but now nothing happens when I select Add to iPhoto.
I have to manually save them to my hard drive and then open iPhoto and import them that way, which is a long way around.
I am currently running on 10.8.2
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Not automatically importing from Mail

Ever since I got on Leopard, my ical has not automatically imported the invites from mail regardless of the setting I have it on. It was "supposed to be fixed in 10.5.1 and then .2, but never happened. Anyone else having this trouble?

I am having this problem too, running 10.5.2. I also have the problem that when I go to download appointments from the Apple Store concierge system, Firefox will not download it as a .ics file, but turns it into some whacked mpeg that is not a movie and cannot be opened.

  • IPhoto won't import from mail

For some reason, I can't seem to import pictures from mial into iPhoto. Running the latest software.

This is a bug in Mt. Lion, see:
Mountain Lion: May be unable to save from Mail directly to iPhoto
As a work-around: Ctrl-click the photo attachments and send them to iPhoto with "Open with > other > iPhoto" instead of "Export to iPhoto" or drag them to the iPhoto icon in the Dock or to the Desktop.
    Send feedback to Apple.

  • IPhoto annoyingly renames photos that I import from Mail

When I "import to iPhoto" from my Mail app, iPhoto strips the original photo name and renames everything Image, Image1, Image2.... I only recently noticed this and it's messing me up since the data is now lost (i didn't keep the original emails with the original photo names). Is there a preference somewhere that I can select to STOP iPhoto from doing this? Now, I have to save the photo from email to a folder on my desktop and import from there. What a pain.
    MacOS Xv. 10.7.5
    iPhoto '11 v 9.4.3
    Thanks! V.

Thanks, Larry. When in Mail, if I want to save photo attachments from someone's email, while in that I email, I go to the far right (next to Attachments) and click on "Save" and scroll down to "add to iPhoto"... Today, when I did that, the Mail attachment showed as "100_0628.jpg" --- when I went to see it in iPhoto, it showed up as "Image 1." When i go to Information, there is no evidence of a previous name. The date of the photo, naturally, becomes today's date.
And thanks for the tip about updating my profile. Done.

  • Moving mail data from mail to Outlook for Mac.

I am moving old PC mail data (outlook 2007) to Mac. I used the mac mover, which was great but...  it has moved my old mail data to mac mail.  I am trying to export that data now (on the mac mail) to then import into Outlook for Mac, but not getting anywhere?  Outlook support says it will import the data as a mac export txt file, but whenever i try and import Outlook can not see the file.
I have also tried to just export the mail data from one mac users mail app to another and that is also not working.  Import mail function reports format error, even though it is from the same version of mail on the same machine.
any suggestion, links to info much appriciated.

  • HT2500 how do e mail merge from mail

How can i do e mail merge from my mac

Something is not quite right here. A MacBook Air does not run any version of IOS, and would you per chance be using OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite instead?
In Excel, export your Christmas addresses as a comma separated value (CSV) file.
In OS X Contacts, make a new contact group — let's call it Christmas 2014. Click on this group to make it current. Then from Contacts > File > Import, select your CSV file from the import file chooser. Your Christmas list of contacts are now generated within the new contact group: Christmas 2014. This may be an imperfect process, and may require you to clean up some of these contacts.
In Contacts > File > Print, you can pick your Avery address label sheet stock number, pick the Christmas 2014 distribution, sort these contacts alphabetically, and print up your labels. Your labels will appear in the large display box in this print dialog. I am excluding this in the screen capture.

    Ramesh,
To paraphrase [url http://asktom.oracle.com]Tom Kyte, "holy unreadable code, Batman!"
Code is much more readable if you put "[ code ]" and "[ /code ]" (without the spaces and quotes) around your code samples.
Seems to me this would be a function of how the email server you are connecting to works - perhaps there is a folder called "Sent Items" or "Drafts" that you can use in this line (note the code tags ;) :
Folder fldr = store.getFolder("INBOX");Not sure if this is possible via POP, but it is in IMAP. Hint: use google and search for:
    javax.mail "sent items"
you'll get some helpful information. Nothing to do with JDeveloper here.

  • Copying and Pasting E-Mail addresses from Mail To, From, CC Fields

In previous versions of Mail, you could copy an e-mail address from the To, From, or CC fields and past it into a document. In Mail 4.0 (mad 4.1), when you do this, the address shows up just as it appears in the field from which it was copied.
Here's an example. First, the address as it appears in the From field:
    (1) John Smith <[email protected]>
Earlier versions of Mail would allow you to select this address, copy it and paste it as
    (2) [email protected]
Now, however, you get the whole thing as in (1), a real nuisance if all you want is the e-mail address itself. Two questions. First, rhetorically, why would anyone want to make this change? Second, is there any way to persuade Mail to revert to its earlier behavior?

  • Can't delete mail account from Mail

    Hello -
Am new to OS X Server.
I bought a MacMini server and have been fiddling with various settings, learning how best to deploy it in my business. Once I feel comfortable, I am planning to wipe it and start a fresh.
But at the moment, on my MBP, I have two identical IMAP accounts in Mail - both linked to the mail service on the server. I can delete one of them - but it reappears a few moments later. The second one reappears instantly.
I have "Unlinked" my MBP with the server in logon options under preferences - but this doesn't seem to help.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can delete them?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Identical problem
    - Mail service automatically configured [email protected] I allowed this in response to server's invitation. I had one local server mail account under Mail 4.1 and disabled it, instantly creating two more that I can't disable because the "Save" responds that the path (/Users/Me/Library/Mail/[email protected]) is taken. And when "-" removing them they instantly reappear. I can remove two and tell the last one not to get mail but unchecking "Enable" and save (only by leaving that account) only makes all three instantly reappear.
    - In Server Preferences, for each user, I can't turn off Mail service. Gear spin flashes. Checkbox stays off but switch to another user and back and it's checked Mail again. Deleting the Contact Info > Contact > jabber and email still won't let you uncheck Mail.
    - In Server Preferences clicking on User then Group then User again accounts started disappearing. User gone, another, all gone. Then can't run Server Preferences because it can't log in. "There may be a problem with the Open Directory Service." Restart server again. All back. Still can't uncheck Mail service.

  • Mac mail import from excel email list

Using leopard on new imac. Could someone please give me some advice for importing to mac mail. I purchased 2000 email leads which was emailed to me in excel format. I can open in numbers fine and looks great. My problem is I need to import these leads to mac mailß, with email, name, address, phone, etc. and haven't found a way to do this. Can anyone help. Thanks in advance. Gary

Try importing them into the address book, this is where mail gets it's email addresses from. There is an option to import a text file. Just back up the address book before you import them since this could create a problem since it's dependent on file headers. i've never tried this before so I'm going out on a whim but the help files in the address book says that it supports importing of csv and tab deliminated files. I would not use the text file if it's been saved from numbers. Use the exact file that was sent to you by the company you purchased the contacts from. Good luck!

  • Importing from mail.app

When downloading jpg attachments from Apple Mail, there is an option to save to iphoto.
However, when I do that, the resulting photo is much smaller: about 30% of the original size. It has also lost its name, being renamed simply 'image'?
Why is this? Is there any way I can get it to directly import the original attachment as it is?  Of course, I can download to desktop, then import, which works fine, but I thought I could save time by doing it directly.

The size of the files are smaller. If I download the photos to my desktop they are about 1.4Mb. If I save them directly to iphoto they are about 500Kb. I presume that means that something goes missing in the transfer.

  • Mail import from Panther to Tiger

I don't see my precise problem in the forums but here it is: I installed Tiger on my iBook and launched Mail, whereupon it asked me if I wanted to import my existing mail messages. I said yes, and it started the process (over 1GB of stuff).
Once the import was complete, the new application showed no messages, but all the mailboxes. It couldn't connect to my ISP either, so I quit. Meanwhile I had a warning that I was running out of space on my hard disk (so I gathered the messages were being copied). I then saw that the space on my hard disk was dangerously low.
I relaunched Mail to have another look and once again, it asked me if I wanted to import my existing mail messages, as though I had never been through the first procedure. I did a restart, but the available space is still low and of course I therefore cannot go through the process again.
I can't see that any mboxes are duplicated and after a search only one mbox is over 1GB in size. There is also only one Mail application.
I can't even insert a CD to copy off data to relieve space and put it back later. Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Barry

Update: I did go through the Import process again, and it completed OK but once again all the mailboxes are there but none of the messages. I can hear the hard drive whirring etc which implies that it is assembling the messages somehow, but they don't show up.
I use a yahoo email address and the Unread messages on the web mail page turn into Read while Mail is running, so they are being forwarded and picked up.
    Thanks again in advance
    Barry

  • IBooks- pdfs not importing from Mail

So when I open a pdf in Mail on my iPhone 3GS I gather I'm meant to get an "Open in iBooks" button in the top right corner of my screen? I don't haz it. And when i open a pdf in Mail it downloads and gives me the front page but won't actually show any more than that.
Should i delete iBooks and reinstall it? Has anyone else had this?

i finally got it to work. i went through all my apps and tried to think of anything that could interfere, including iBooks, and removed them using iTunes. I then hard reset my phone and checked to see if i could at least view them as i used to (iBooks) and i was. i then put iBooks back on my phone, checked a PDF in mail and was able to quicklook it or open in iBooks. i was able to then add the other apps back with out losing the functionality.
apps i removed to get it working:
    Stanza
    AirSharing
    EasyTask
    Bump
    Photoshop Mobile
    hope this helps
