Mail in Mavericks - even more problems/bugs

Apart from the details (basically bugs) that accompany Apple Mail from previous versions without any corrections (! ), Mavericks brought yet another "improvements"
The most disastrous one is the following
SEARCH DOES NOT HAPPEN ANY MORE WITHIN THE SELECTED FOLDER:
So far, when I was in a particular created mail folder ("on my Mac"), the search was done just within the folder (very logical)
But now , after the new OSX was installed , when I am in a particular folder and start a search for a sender, now I don't see just the emails from this sender within this very folder as before, bit I see ALL the emails from all the folders by that sender. This is simply terrible and makes no sense.
For example I make a folder "invoices" where I put all the mails that include invoice. When I go to that folder and want to find invoices from a particular sender, so far I found them (by writing the sender's name into the search field). But now in the new OSX - when doing that I see ALL th existing e emails from that sender from all the mailboxes, so the search and folder is good for nothing ... It is quite upsetting and makes the work miserable.
Apart from the old bugs - like 1) when the new mail is coming, if the messages are grouped, in the preview pan and notification I don 't see the content of the newest message, but of the previous one, till I specifically go there and open the message 2) when I go to the Sent mailbox I very often do not see the addressees, but me as a sender in all the mails in the list, only if I go there second time, it changes and I finally see the addressees in each mail - quite annoying
we have new minor bugs now
1) notifications are delayed: before the notification came immediately - now I open the email read it and then only the notification comes
2) adding attachements takes much longer than before. Till Mavericks , clicking on an attachement took just nothing before it was added to email, now it takes few seconds ...
3) sending and receiving messages pane. When you send 1 email - why in the sending pane you see "Sending 36 of 36 or 68 of 68" when you send one message ? The same for receiving. Quite a nonsense ...
What is the use of 0,000x mm thickness of apple hardware when the basic things do not work as they should and become even worse ?

Mavericks user experience with Mail, Safari, etc. has been the worst program upgrade I have ever seen. I cannot even list all the issues others have under discussion in other threads and I find I have almost all of them too. User experience fail.

  • Solid amber flashes green once about every minute + even more problems

I have a problem with my airport express:
-Even after doing a factory reset my airport express has an solid amber light wich flashes green once about every minute.
    - Sometimes the LED light even goes off for a couple of seconds.
    - I can't find the airport express in the airport express utility, even when I directly connect a LAN cable it won't find it.
    - I also can't find the airport express wirelessly.
Please help me fixing this airport express.

    Lauren, welcome to the discussions!
Unfortunately, the symptoms you are describing likely indicate that your Express has an internal problem and may need to be replaced.
If you have not already done so, try a Factory Default Reset to see if that might help.
Power down the Express and wait a few minutes.
Then hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the device back in to power
Keep holding the reset button until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly. This normally takes about 5-10 seconds
See if that helps. If no luck, I'm afraid the Express has failed and will need to be replaced.

  • Firefox stopped working so i re installed and now i have even more problems

okay once again ff stopped working so i did what i was told to do the last time Etc download the newest version and save it and then go into program files and find the mozilla firefox file and delete it and then go back to the saved firefox download and continue the download. here is the prblem with that. after i click on the file to download it ask if i want to run this program and i say yes and then it goes to a menu that says its downloading the files and that firfox will start after but nothing happens. i mean i let the stupid thing run for ever and nothing happens. now i was stupid and i went into programs and uninstalled firefox so now i cannot even do anything. in my start mene wheni click on firefox it says not found because i deleted it. i am being forced to use internet explorer and i hate it. also i admit i am computer stupid so please be kind when u tell me what i have to do to fix this problem. i do not know why all of a sudden after years of using firefox i am starting to have problems with it. please someone help me get my firefox back. my operating system is windows vista

no luck i cannot get anything out of firefox. it just looks like it going to lunch but then even that stops after a few seconds. anything else i can do? should i try to go into programs and uninstall it and then reinstall it again?
another problem i just found (like i need anymore) a solution that someone gave me when i had problems lunching fireforx a while ago was to download the latest version of firefox and save it. then i had to go into my program files and find the file mozilla/firefox and delete it and then find the firefox i saved and finish the download which fixed whatever problem was causing the firefox to not lunch. now when i tried to do the same i cannot. the file that has mozilla firefox in it when i try to delete won't let me it says i have to have premission. so i go into the properties and see the permissions it list it as CREATOR OWNER but it only has permission to do certain thing in the folder like subfolers etc so therefore i cannot delete it. when i try to delete the creator owner or even change the premissions for it it won't let me. i do not even know where this creator owner came from. i am the only one that has use of my computer. like i said i am not very computer smart so any help u can give me please make sure they are detailed. i appreicate all u have done so far. i just want my firefox back.

    Illaas,
I tried the manual method.  I was able to set the music/video to manual and then restarted the entire system.  After restart, I re-attached the ipod touch to the computer.  The sync automatically ran for everything that wasn't set to manual and it completed without a problem.  I then reset the music/video to automatically sync and restarted the entire coputer/ipod set again.  This time when I re-attached the ipod, EVERYTHING synced and there were no problems reported.  I've never had to do this before, but I will keep it in mind if something like this happens again.  Thank you for pointing me to the manual sync.

Apple Enterprise Support is aware of this issue. They have specific instructions which attempt to remediate the issue, however, attempting on two different MBP laptops, so far has not succeeded.
The problem to be specific is - hang at login. The Filevaulted user account gets its password entered, then the "progress bar" mid screen will be seen to halt, never resuming. NVRAM resets dont necessarily cure this issue, but turning off FV2 definitely does.
We are seeing this with 10.10.2 fully Apple-SUS updated machines.
Feedback has been sent to Apple over this as well.
    Im recommending:
    a. turn off FV2 until such time as a Apple provided update cures it
    b. consider the Sophos WDE solution if WDE is absolutely required (disclosure: I havent attempted this, not sure about its workability)

  • Mavericks, Mail 7.0, iCloud account problem

Upgraded to Mavericks, now iCloud mail is off line.  Problem with iCloud account.  It looks like it cannot save the password.
Any ideas how to fix this??
If I send out an email, it will ask for my password and then work fine.  If I close and reopen the problem reutrns.
I do not have this problem with my MBA. Upgrade went fine, all mail accounts work.
    I found the answer!!
Mail = Pref= Accounts = Advance = Pull down menu - chnage auth: from password to Apple token.

I've been having this same problem. It seems to occure in both Mail app and Text Edit.
When I have a body of text, and I try to select a part of it, or click to set my cursor somewhere in it, the new text that I begin to type suddenly appears down the row somewhere else -- obviously where I had no intention of typing it.
Another issue that sprung up at the same time as this, was that Mail app will not automatically attach a signature file to my mail anymore. It always has to be manually selected from the pull-down in the new message window.
Both of these issus began immediately when I upgraded to Mavericks, and have even transferred over to a brand new computer when the user account was migrated over.

  • Mail in Mavericks is a disaster for me.  Mail opens VERY slowly and cannot be deleted. I can move copies of messages to On My Mac but the original stays in the In Box. Scrolling works then it doesn't then it does. I tried every advice here; nothing helps.

I've read and tried all the solutions proffered to others about Mail in Mavericks and scrolling issues as well.  They either are not applicable (hard drive seems fine; is less than half full; permissions have been repaired; Disk Utility finds no hard drive issues) or don't work (rebuilding, removing envelope files and re-importing, removing various preference files).
I have about 200,000 emails in four In Boxes.  Prior to Mavericks this was not a problem.  I have tried to remove them in case that helps but when I move them to a new folder in "On My Mac" the new folder is (very slowly) created but the original messages stay in the In Box as well.  I went through one box and deleted over 52,000 messages -- or so I thought.  When I closed mail later, I got a message saying the messages could not be moved to trash.  They are in the In Box now.
Maybe the problem is not Mavericks, but it started when I upgraded, and except for scrolling, which has been problematic elsewhere as well but no where more than in Mail, everything but Mail seems to be working ok.
Are other people having problems to this extent?  I can wait a little while for a fix but I get over 2,000 emails a day (yes, a lot of spam) and I don't think I can go on in perpetuity without the ability to delete messages.  I've used Apple Mail since its inception and would prefer to keep it but may be forced out.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
While logged in as Guest, launch Mail and set up one of your IMAP accounts. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Mail in Mavericks repeatedly quits

Hey Apple Community! Just solved a problem I have been wrestling with for a couple weeks now. Thought I would post cuz I'm sure I must not be the only one having these issues. This is what happened:
    1. Upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mavericks.
    2. Tried to open MacMail Ap - would crash repeatedly in a half a second before you could even view a message.
    3. Finally did the command/R/restart clean install on the OS, after reading a thread saying this was the only way to fix mail.
    4. This did not fix it - same result.
    5. Read some more support threads, talked to my Apple Genius daughter who had me diagnose it thru Console. Got the drift that Gmail might be the culprit.
    (Console said:
    "Application Specific Information:
*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[MFGmailLabelStore setUid:forMessageWithTemporaryUid:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x60000018b7a0'
    abort() called
terminating with uncaught exception of type NSException")
    6. By reading even more threads figured out how to disable Gmail account thru SystemPrefs/InternetAccounts, then disable & delete the Gmail Account
    7. After doing this, MacMail Ap opened without problems, and I was able to access my .mac/.me/.icloud account(s), without issues.
    8. Tried to add the Gmail account back in by doing the usual Mail/AddAccount/Google, like always worked in the past for Gamil. Appears to work for a sec, but no Gmail account appears.
    9. By reading further threads & support docs, found an update to stablize Gmail in Mavericks. Downloaded & opened it, but it said I was ineligible for this update.(?) Ok Whatever.
    10. Read some more threads, found somebody having issues with Gmail on their iPhone (which I am not). Gmail has worked just fine on all my other Apple toys this whole time. Only issue was with the MacBook I upgraded to Mavericks. This person said Google was no longer supporting Gmail. This was news to me.
    11. On a whim, tried adding the Gmail account back into the MacMail as an "Other" account, instead of as a "Google" account.
    12. This worked. No further issues. Maybe I am the last Mac user to find this out, but maybe not & this helps somebody else. Just sayin.'

    Hello everybody,
i've solved the problem. But it doesnt work for all signatures, just for one individual. You have to edit the files for Apple Mail AND Apple Mail on iCloud, else the other file overwrite the other...
    1. Go to the following paths (user library):
    Apple Mail:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Signatures/
    Apple Mail on iCloud :
    ~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~mail/Data/MailData/Signatures/
    2. When you have located the placeholder .mailsignature  file, drag it on your desktop, and delete the original file in the folder. Open the file on desktop with your html editor. You will see a few metadata lines on the top of the file and some html code below. Replace just the html code with yours. Save the file.
    3. Do Step 2 also with the .mailsignature file for iCloud.
    4. You have an individual signature for a specific mail acc.
    Regards,
    Lui

  • Images in Mail in Mavericks - solved

Mail programs do not read <DOCTYPE>, nor <head> information.
    Start simply with:
    <html>
    <body>
<table> etc and then code in place
    </body>
    </html>
Paste the code into Thunderbird and send to yourself.
Or open in Safari: click "share" and "email this page". Just like the good old days!
This works, even in Mail in Mavericks. You can now forward from Mail.
See and test my example here: http://artistvision.org/2014-01-demo.html
    I got it here:
    css-tricks.com/video-screencasts/30-creating-and-sending-html-email/
    written in 2008!

    Bryce,
Are you using more than one model of Mac, and if so, please confirm the models and if this problem is on all your Macs?
In the menubar, please click on Mail, and choose About Mail -- what version of Mail is reported, exactly? If running 10.5.6, it should be Mail 3.5 (930.3).
If the correct version, then try creating a New User Account, and as that New User try setting up your POP account -- select to leave messages on the server, after download, btw. See the following if not familiar with adding a new user account:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
The reason for doing this is to test the Mail app itself, and not to permanently switch to a new user account. Tell me if the behavior continues in that New User Account?

  • Unstable Mail post Mavericks upgrade:

After upgrade to Mavericks (v10.9.1) Mail (v7.1) on my iMac has become unstable, freezing at the drop of a hat, requiring frequent forced quit to wrestle back control. Tried to instal the available Mail Update for Mavericks, promising increased stability, in an attempt to solve the problem but the installer says all my storage options, including the SSD Macintosh HD 'do not meet the requirements for this update'.
Is this a known problem between Mail and Mavericks and does anyone have an idea how to fix?
    thanks

Has anybody figured this out? I too really really regret "upgrading" to Mavericks.  My most used programs are all fubar'd: Mail, Numbers, Pages
At least it seems you can access your email.  Mine often freezes causes a force quit (even that doesn't always work) and then when I click on the mail icon, no window appears, only the tiny little (tool?) bar at the top.  I am still looking for my boxes, especially inbox and compose box.  Aarrgh!

  • I cannot set up mail in mavericks

I've just taken delivery of new MBPro. I have migrated all data from my previous MBPro, but Mail, though it has all my Smart folders, will not accept my existing accounts: iCloud and Exchange.

I spent a couple of hours with phone tech support yesterday, resetting, repairing permissions, going into library and removing mail related folders, going into terminal (sorry I can't remember the commands I typed) but nothing worked.
This evening, I got an email notification of your comment above and linked to the thread and noticed the "re: Mail in Mavericks" thread in the "More Like This" panel to the right of this window and followed rootch's steps and it worked! my iCloud and exchange accounts appeared in mail automatically. Other POP accounts, I had to configure manually, referring to settings in Mail on my previous MBP. Try it, I hope it works for you!

  • Mail & Yahoo! Mail!!! more info please???!!!

    Hi all,
I am new to the Mac and new to the Mail for sure
i added my Yahoo account to the Mail application, but where\how can i find my "Folders" - "Spam" Folder "Trash" and all that???
do messages i receive\send stay\go on yahoo server as well???
and how can i Sync my FOLDERS!!!!
Thanks a lot for the help guys

so i can't get anything else than Inbox & Sent!!! well, that's not so much workable with!! and i guess Mail with Yahoo is a bit useless to be honest!
Not true. I use Yahoo! every day and it works perfectly. Unless you have a compelling reason (and very few people do) to need all your email on your Mac and kept on the server forever, you don't need anything else.
You can't use Yahoo! Mail for what you say you want, since it's not an IMAP service, and even if it were, it would cause more problems for you than it's worth. Mail works great with Yahoo! Mail. Gmail offers an IMAP mail service, but it's not a true implementation of the IMAP standard, so you'll have problems with that, too.
If I were you, I'd stick with what works; you don't need anything other than Yahoo! Mail.
