Mail in Mavericks is not downloading mail messages if I read them in iOS mail app. Why?

More info:
The accounts in question are domains hosted by Google.  Needless to say this is frustrating as in some cases I have to download the attachments in those messages, I have to forward the emails to another account in order to see them.
I have a feeling if a message is marked read the mail application does not bother to grab them.  This is a different behaviour than before prior to the update.  I'd appreciate any solutions.
Thanks in advance.

mail app on my new MBP haswell on mavericks receive my mails always late comparing my iPhone mail app why please ?

There are issues with Mavericks Mail but only for some people. Worst on Exchange, but remember this is not "push" mail.  It will never be as fast as Active Sync push.
For $1.99 try Airmail app, see if it is any faster. For me it is faster. If you rely heavily on 'On My Mac' folders then Airmail needs another release (in Beta currently) to support them properly, otherwise it is a very good app..

I subscribed golf digest, but I could not download the magazine. Ipad reads“cannot update library anerror has occurred.

Thanks for the quick response. No, I did not get any error messages or any terms-of-usage screen. The employee I told my problem to was not computer savvy either. She just suggested I move to different spots w/in the library to see if that would make a difference. It didn't. When I connected to the library WiFi it did change the Verizon 3G that is usually in the upper left corner to iPad with two to three emanating arcs. I may have to go to the library in the next town. I was able to connect to theirs in the past when I had to download something greater than 20 MB. Unless I really want it, I will probably not even try to download something more than 20 MB due to the hassle. Yeah, I may have been better off getting a normal desktop or laptop and getting WiFi at home. To do that now would mean having my iPad 2 and a desktop computer, which I feel is extravagant. (I know there are a lot of big spenders out there who got the iPad as additional gadget for fun. This is a rich country.) A Verizon rep told me I couldn't set up a WiFi router at home just using an iPad. So it seems like a person who just uses 3G is limited to surfing the net (not even much YouTube because it eats a lot of data) and using email. I read about an app that helps print wirelessly using 3G, but a reviewer said you had to be an engineer to get it done right. BTW, I like the Steelers. I'm old enough to remember Franco Harris and that blond guy whose name escapes me back in the '70s. Since I live in North Jersey I feel I have to support the Giants. But I know football about as well as computers.

When I try to use the Message feature on my iPad 2, to send a message to a friends iPhone (on iOS 5 too), why will it not allow me to send the message?

Check to make sure you are not typing your message in the Subject line.  If you are, it won't let you send the message.  Cut and paste the message into the Message field and you should be all set.
FYI, you can disable the Subject line from your messages in Settings/Messages.

Im able to erase it but no apps will download now. I have tried logging out of the app store but it still did the same thing. I also tried resetting it and that didn't work either. I've tried everything I can think of but still just sits there saying "waiting." what do I do?

    - Maybe here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Unknown error containing '0xE' when connecting
    - Try redownloading the app directly to the iPod by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Want computer to download emails after I've read them on iphone

    Hi,
Please forgive my lack of technical knowledge.
I've just got my hands on a 3G iphone and set up my email account on it.
I can send and receive emails absolutely fine.
However, I would like for any emails I receive on my phone to then download onto my computer the next time I turn it on and open Windows Mail.
At the moment, the email I receive is staying on my iphone. Is there a way to automatically direct any emails on my phone to be downloaded by my desktop computer when I turn it on?
Thanks for any advice given - it'll all be hugely appreciated!
    Cheers
    Neil

Many email programs in computers have a box you can check that says "Leave Messages on Server" so you can download those messages again with another email program or computer. The iPhone does not have that feature.
I recently discovered the IMAP email protocol, you can get/read/delete your email from multiple places and each location stays in sync.
So, if you get and read messages on your iPhone and go home and turn on your computer and download your messages the messages that you read on your iPhone will download and show that you read them, but any messages you deleted on your iPhone will be deleted (which is good in the case of not having to delete the same junk mail messages again)
My favorite service for iMap is Fastmail http://www.fastmail.fm
Problem is you'll have to change your email address fo you go to Fastmail, but your Fastmail account can be set up to pull messages from your other email accounts.
    Good luck.

Lord K.  Thank you. Yes I am within the 90 time period, however I travel Intertionally and I can not receive not make a call to Apple. I was just at the Genius Bar in Chicago and they said, don't worry about it.  It just floats out there, however, I can not recover my messages on a flash drive. I need to go back to my old computer which I don't have with me.  My messages were in folders for a lawsuit.  It is going to take an incredible amount of work for me to, you have no Idea.  We are talking thousands of pages!  I the defendent will have them during discovery so I am not so worried.  However, I can not bring them to him on a Flashdrive when I meet with him without an extraordinary amount of presssure on my part.  THis is not just some little email issue. • How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.

How can I synchronize my iPhoto events? my iTunes doesn't read them and with the app Images in the iPad I can only find Photos, Albums, Faces and Places, not Events.

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) .  I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha!  I should have paid attention and read between the lines!  My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do!  I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy.  I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events)  ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

  • Apple Mail in Yosemite not downloading complete messages

    My Set Up:
    - Early 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch.
    - Yosemite 10.10.1
Since I upgraded to Yosemite, my Apple Mail is not downloading email content. I have to manually click on each message header to download the content of that email. See the screenshots below.
This screenshot shows how the message appears in the Inbox when it comes first.
And if I don't do anything it will stay as is. And the below image shows the message with its downloaded body after I select the empty message.
How can I make the message download automatically (the way it was before I upgraded to Yosemite)? Not having my message download messes up with other Smart Mailboxes.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Ok. Thanks.
I archived maximum email from my account and left around 300 messages in my Inbox + Sent Items.
Then I Rebuilt the account. I saw in the lower left corner the Mail Activity status where it started downloading the messages.
In parallel I had the Activity Monitor open to check the CPU usage. It was around 30%.
It took around 5 to 10 mins to download those 300 messages. But on my mail app only some of the messages were completely downloaded while rest only showed the header and no body. I left it that way.
The Mail Activity is done with its job. The status bar is gone. But the Activity Monitor still shows Mail app at similar CPU utilization levels (around 30%).
The issue is that my Mail App does not show any additional messages downloading with their bodies. Its almost like it is stuck at message number X.
While the CPU is still showing 30% utilization by mail, I have switched the UI to NOT show any conversations. This way every  message is visible in the list. I have put the mac on Caffeine for next 5 hours so that it does not sleep.
    Will update the thread tomorrow.
    Thanks for your help.

  • IMAP question - message showing up in iOS but not in Mail.app - why?

I set up an account in Mail.app Version 5.2 (1257). It's an IMAP account linked to a Gmail account.
Just now I saw a (1) indicator that a new mail had arrived. But when I clicked on the account's Inbox there were no messages there.
I also checked on my iPhone, which also uses IMAP for the same Gmail account, and I can see the message and read it.
I went back to Mail.app but it's still not there. So I manually selected Mailbox > Get New Mail > account name. After doing this the (1) indicator went away and there is still no mail in the Inbox.
But the message is still there when looking via both my iPhone and iPad.
I also tried closing and opening a new View Window, but it didn't help.
Finally I quit Mail and restarted it and could see the message.
But what gives? Why couldn't I see the message in Mail.app on my iMac without restarting Mail?
    Thanks,
    doug

I'm not sure there is a setting for that. I don't see one anywhere.
But remember - the reason I knew there was a waiting message to begin with was because the dock indicator displayed a number and next to the account's Inbox was a (1) in parentheses. So it must have checked for mail. The message just wasn't there until I quit Mail and started again.
Anyway, thanks. I'll just see if this happens again. Maybe it was a one time rare bug.
    Thanks,
    doug

  • Rule to not download a message

    Hello all
I occasionally collect my work email (POP) on my laptop when i am on the road. I have the Apple Mail tickbox "remove copy from server" unticked, so when I get back to work all the messages are still available on the server for me to collect on my normal workstation.
However there are a number of messages that I don't want to collect on my laptop,. Is there a way to write a rule for mail.app not to download messages that have specific subjects. I can see a way to prompt to skip messages over a certain size, but no way to ignore messages with particular subjects.
    eg
    if message subject is "rhubarb"
    do not download from server
    Thanks for any help

I once had a similar problem, although related to a download problem, hence download process resulting completed to aplle.
I then dropped an email to apple support  describing my problem and they provided a solution for another attempt.
    All worked fine.

  • E-Mail App: Why not play .GSM e-mail attachments like .WAV are played?

I get two kinds of voice-mail attachments forwarded to my e-mail.
At work, our "OneVoice" system sends me a .wav file as an e-mail attachment.
My personal Efax.com number sends me a .gsm file as an e-mail attachment.
On my computer, the Quicktime player will play either type of audio file.
On my iPod Touch, the Mail app will open the .wav attachment and play it with Quicktime player.
Unfortunately, the Mail app just shows the .gsm file as an icon in the message but does not attempt to open or play the attachment, though I confident Quicktime player on iPod could play .gsm like it does on my computer.
Is there any way I can play a .gsm e-mail attachment on my iPod Touch?
Should the Mail app recognize a .gsm e-mail attachment like it does a .wav ?

The mail app will only recognize what it is programmed to recognize. There are many files that work on desktop computers that don't play on the iPhone. Some of apples own office docs will not open on the iPhone while MS office docs will.
Apple does not list all files the iPhone does support, but the audio support does not include GSM. If the phone doesn't know how to decode it, the Mail app can't play it either.
    From Apple iPhone tech specs:
Audio formats supported: AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV
