Mail in-Message shortcut icons

This question does not relate to new functionality introduced by Mavericks, but the change introduced by OS X 10.9 Mail to how Google mail is handled has drawn my attention to archiving mail messages. (I do have Mail Version 7.0 (1822) installed).
In iOS7 the Mail preferences for a mail account allow me to configure whether discarded messages are moved to the 'Deleted Mailbox' or the 'Archive Mailbox'. (Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Accounts > <account name> > Account > Advanced > Move discarded messages to)
In OS X 10.9 Mail a Google mail account does not offer the same flexibility: it is pre-configured to move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox and the setting is greyed-out (Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Google > Mailbox Behaviours > Trash)
In OS X Mail is it possible to extend the (for want of a better name) "in-Message shortcuts"
to have an additional 'Archive' icon?
Thank you
Andrew

Hi ennio99,
If you are looking to use the Archive function in Mail on Mavericks (and possibly add an Archive button to the toolbar), you may find the following article helpful (it is aimed at Mountain Lion, but the same functions apply in Mavericks):

When I start firefox through shortcut icon on desktop, the message comes that Windows cannot find C:\...\jqsnotify.exe . Tried to search the file through Search also but could not find the file.

That is the Java Quick Starter, a couple of options for you:
    # Open the add-ons manager (in the Tools menu select Add-ons)
    # In the list of Extensions, click on Java Quick Starter to select it, then click on Disable
When you re-start Firefox that should stop the error.
The second option is to re-install Java. You are using an old version of Java so it is recommended that you install the latest version, available from http://java.com/

I think the above question states it all. There used to be shortcut icons for these things and now they are not there.

  • Mail and Messages freeze in landscape/portrait mode

When in Messages and Mail, my iPhone 5 freezes in landscape or portrait mode.  I can continue to type, edit, etc. but can only get it to rotate after pressing 'Home' button or closing and re-opening app.  I am running 8.0.2.  I notice it most when taking a break for Mail or Messages and turning phone off and when I turn back on.  I'm guessing it is a bug and not a hardware problem because I can always get it to clear by just pressing home or closing app.

    Hello there, HoosierZach1979.
Great job in coming up with a good workaround for your issue with Mail and Messages. For issues regarding iOS not functioning as expected, the following Knowledge Base article provides a great and practical list of steps for troubleshooting:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected,  restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),  reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Direct Message Shortcut Not Working

I have a direct message shortcut on my homescreen for a single contact, except that it doesnt work. When I go to send a message to that person, it doesnt open the message screen for them... it opens whatever message screen was opened last, regardless of what/who it was and what I do to the phone (IE: remove shortcuts and add them back; restart phone; remove shortcuts and restart then add them back; shut phone off entirely for several minutes - this temporarily fixes it when it comes back on, but soon as I open another message its back to opening whatever it wants).
Sometimes I can get it to stop and do what its suppose to, but it keeps going back to this behavior and right now I cant get it to stop no matter what I do.
Does any one know how to fix this? Help please!

....Not even remotely as that has absolutely nothing to do with what I'm asking for help with.
I have a "messages" icon on my homescreen and thats great for messaging other people... but what I am saying is I have a Direct Message/text/SMS link to one specific contact sitting on my homescreen as well since this particular person is the person I typically text the most... thus its convenient and (usually) far less time consuming to click on their Direct Message icon to text them rather than Messages and then try to sift through my texts to find that one person.
What I am asking help for is sometimes when I click on the icon to directly message this specific contact, it will open up Messages or whatever text I was looking at previously rather than jumping straight to this specific contact's texts like its suppose to. I want to know how to make it stop going where every the heck it wants to and open the text window for that specific contact like its SUPPOSE to. Everything I can think of to troubleshoot this has not fixed it.
If you are unfamiliar with this, open up Personalize then click Shortcut... you should see Direct Dial and then Direct Message, clicking either one of these allows you to select a contact that you can directly contact without having to go through a bunch of different steps - Direct Message is what I am talking about.
Also, as an unrelated side note... I just tried to do what you suggested - open People then a specific contact. There is no "new message" option, so I'm not really sure what you're talking about.

  • Removing Shortcut Icons from Finder Window

In the left side of the Finder Window, there are little shortcut icons like "Music" and "Applications" and the like. I dragged a folder into this window for easy access. I no longer have the folder on my Mac, but the shortcut icon is still there.
How do I make it go away? Every time I right- or left-click on it, I simply get a message saying the folder is no longer available.

Select the item and drag it out of the sidebar. It will "poof" away.

Getting strange messages from [email protected]
Not a new issue really, but just over the last couple of weeks I have been getting intermittent messages, both to a couple of my accounts, my primary account as well as one secondary account.
The strange thing is that the messages purport to come from [myemailname]@btopenworld.com and are being 'sent' to non-existent 'btinternet.com' and 'talk21.com' addresses.
Strange because both of these accounts have been around since the last century, literally, and have always used the 'btinternet.com' suffix.
I have never used the '@btopenworld' suffix at any time so presumably these are being generated by some unwanted and unwelcome third party.

    Alan,
If you go into your Account Information and then Mail Options, Mail Accounts you will find that BT has created an extra address for you that is "Your Username"@btopenworld.com
I suggest you use the following link
     https://api.login.yahoo.com/login/history?
to check the login history of your account.
Interestingly the source of the spam emails being sent (probably) from your account is hosted by
    Critical Path Inc
I think your Mailer-Daemon messages are worthy of more detailed investigation.
Critical Path are the new BT Mail providers - there is nothing at issue here with regard this.
The spam injection point for the 2nd report is (probably) an infected machine in the Ukraine, the first report is India.

  • Desktop shortcut icons change to Adobe after new install ...

    Hi All -
Thanks in advance for your understanding if this has already been covered but after searching, I can't find a solution to my problem which very well may be something very simple. Btw, I'm a Vista user.
After installing Adobe Reader 9.xx or even an older version of 8.xx, many of the shortcut icons on my desktop change to the (white/red center) adobe icon with access to that program then unavailable as an error message comes up saying Adobe cannot access that program.
Anyone have any idea what I've done wrong or how to fix? After an uninstall of Adobe, the correct shortcut icons return with access working fine.
Thx in advance for any suggestions/fix -
    Will in So. Cal.

    4. From the Save as Type drop down select All Files
    5. Change the File Name to Exe.reg
    6. Save the file to the Desktop and then close Notepad.
    7. Double-click the Exe.reg file. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, enter the password or provide proper confirmation.
    8. Click Yes, and then click OK in response to the registry prompts.
    9. Restart your Computer

  • Mac Mail: Unread mail counter on dock icon shows "phantom" unread mails

The mailconter of my Mac Mail icon on the dock shows 25 unread messages, but I'm unable to find these inside Mac Mail as unread messages.
I did check all mailboxes and their subfolders for any undread messages that might be inside them, but I didn't find any.
Is there any way to reset or recalculate the unread mail counter for the dock icon?

    Hi Robert
The proposed rebuild did suddenly reveal the 25 unread mails insinde my archive mailfolders. By marking these as read again now shows the correct count of unread mails on the dock icon.
Thanks a lot, your hint was most helpful!

You will see a red circle (badge) with the number of messages/unread mail items on the app icon.
This is true for any app with new content.
This indicates 6 new text/iMessages and 1909 unread emails.
and as noted, you can turn on Notifications to pop up a banner on the lock screen.

  • Handoff not working for Mail or Messages between iPhone and Mac

I just installed Yosemite on my rMBP and wanted to try out the cool new handoff feature, but unfortunately it's not so cool because it doesn't work.  When I start creating a new message in Mail or Messages I get the handoff icon in the dock on the left side, and when I click it the appropriate application starts and a new message appears, but the contents that I entered into the iPhone are missing.  In fact, the Mail message just says it's "Loading" (with the spinning indicator) forever and I can't use or close that window.
I've tried rebooting both the mac and the iPhone, and tried signing out of iCloud and back in, but no luck.  Any other ideas?  Why doesn't this "just work"?

An update on this.  Mail handoff has started working, although I don't know why.  I'm now able to continue typing on the mac where I left off on the phone.
However, iMessage handoff has stopped working altogether.  The icon sometimes appears in the bottom left of the screen, but when I click it nothing happens.  This is still happening after upgrading to iOS 8.1.

  • Java 7u13 win8 shortcut icons still appear to be broken

As Woodiw1563768 pointed out in July of 2012, the Java Web Start (JAWS) desktop shortcut icon on Windows 8 appear to be broken[0]. When you provide a custom icon the shortcut appears as a blank paper instead of as your icon or the default web start icon. This is still happening in February of 2013.
Windows 8 is "officially supported with the release of Java 7 Update 10" [1] and bug 2230144 claims this issue should be fixed as of Java 7 Update 12 (7u12) [2], but when I tested with the latest version from java.com, 1.7.0_13 (7u13) my icons are still broken for applications which work with the same version of Java on earlier versions of Windows. Can anyone else confirm this? It would be handy to have a public JNLP file that normally installs icons that we can all test against. The one in the bug report appears to be missing or only internal.
As noted in bug 7182795 [3], the issue appears to be some Windows security conflict with the use of LocalLow as the cache directory where JAWS icons are stored.
I am having trouble figuring out how to comment on bug 2230144 to indicate that it still appears to be broken.
Is there any way to work around this bug? (Besides not using web start or not relying on the desktop shortcuts.)
I have tested setting the icon path manually, but every time the JNLP file is updated, and sometimes on every launch, the shortcut is deleted and re-created, reverting back to the broken icon.

  • Since upgrade to iOS 7 Email error on over 100KB emails "Cannot Send Mail  The message was rejected by the server because it is too large." Connecting to Exchange via Activesync

    Hi,
Following the upgrade to iOS 7.0.3 on all our iPhone and iPad devices, it has been identified that when sending emails around 100KB in size and over an error message appears on the device stating “Cannot Send Mail  The message was rejected by the server because it is too large.” See error message below. The send/receive limit is over 10MB so this is not the issue.
We are in an Exchange Environment using Microsoft Activesync. This issue is not evident in iOS 6. This has been tested on an iPhone 3GS running version iOS 6.1.3. We have been unable to repeat the issues seen on iOS 7 on the older OS. It is not possible to roll back to the older operating system as Apple are no longer signing the software.
We use Microsoft Active Sync to connect to our Exchange servers through a TMG. The issue is very inconsistent, some identical emails go through, some fail. This is not an issue with the send/receive limit as this is over 10MB. The error message when it fails on the TMG is Status: 413 Request Entity Too Large, which we believe is from IIS on the CAS server.
Does anyone have any suggest course of actions to take?
    Many Thanks

This resolution have to attend at the server not with the ios device. My employer's mail administrator reject me to correct it from the server. As his concern is, if ither ios devices works why don't mine? So I am helpless than changing my iphone. It works fine for early versions of ios and with androids. And also one of my friends iphone4 with ios 7 (similar as mine) works too. So I guess it's something wrong with my iPhones settings. But basic question I cannot understand is it works in my phone before this ios7 upgrading. And currently working with my yahoo account too. Favourable reply expected.
