mail (Yosemite) puts incoming mails in spam, even the sender is in my contacts.

Hello martinamm,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you have some mail that is automatically being filtered to spam, even though the contacts are in your address book. The following resource provides a few more steps you can attempt to resolve this:
Mail (Yosemite): If junk mail filters aren’t working correctly
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19190
If messages are incorrectly marked as junk
There are several ways you can prevent Mail from incorrectly marking legitimate messages as junk.
- Tell Mail that a message is legitimate by marking it as not junk. Click Not Junk in the banner of the message; or select the message, then click the Not Junk button in the Mail toolbar.
- Add the sender to the Contacts app. For more information, see Save addresses, events, passes, and more.
- Review your junk mail settings in Mail preferences, as well as any rules you might have created to handle junk mail, and make changes as necessary.
Cheers,
Matt M.

I am unable to start or select the MAIL app. No incoming mail and no outgoing mail. I do not even know how to get an answer without email. Can you help?

Thank you Carolyn, How helpless you can feel without this App!
Going into the App Store as you suggest, I see 'thee updates available", the first says, 'X RESTART', the second says, 'Garage Band, an error has occurred" (in red), and the third 'Memory Clean, UPDATE'.
Am I correct in thinking that OSX is the problem, because it is waiting for a restart?

MobileMe Mail suddenly STOPPED showing Incoming Mail on my Mac

Again, thanks for your very comprehensive input. I forgot that I still am not now able to sync my iPhone calendar, contacts or Bookmarks with my MacBook calendar, contacts or Bookmarks.
I will try your suggestion "to sync my calendars to iCloud by means of (the) unsupported hack,  This page outlines the situation when you have migrated to iCloud on Snow Leopard, including a link to the calendar hack:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudSL.html
Maybe something will evolve for syncing my Contacts and Bookmarks and iCloud.
(My MacBook - SnowLeopard - 1.83 GHz, Intel Core Duo -- will NOT accommodate Lion.
Is there any way to upgrade my processor to Intel Core 2 Duo?

  • Using Yosemite My incoming mail server changes by itself and means I can't access my email. When I go to preferences the new incoming mail server is greyed out. I then have to remove the accounts and get new ones.

Using Mail with Yosemite 10.10.2.The incoming mail server keeps changing by itself and means I can't access my mail. I  go to preferences and find that the new incoming server is greyed out .  I then have to remove the accounts and then add them again with the correct server. The incoming server which is greyed out is imap.gmail.com

Try Mail/Preferences/Accounts - select the account, then go to Advanced and deselect "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".

  • Mail in Mountain Lion "Incoming Mail Server" field cannot be empty

I put my wife's email account which is in iCloud on mail with a couple of other iCloud accounts.  To identify who's iCloud account is who's, In the preferences on the account where you edit the description from the default "iCloud" to User's Name  iCloud and after you hit save I get an error saying The "Incoming Mail Server" field cannot be empty.  Yet is has p04--imap.mail.me.com in the field that is greyed out and I cannot edit the fields contents and therefore doesn't allow me to change the email account's description.  I've tried deleting the accounts, logging out of icloud, etc.  Nothing has fixed this yet.
On a side note, one of my other email accounts from iCloud keeps popping up with it needing the password field to be entered.  No matter what I try, it doesn't take the password.  I can log into it just fine through safari.
So it seems like iCloud is having issues as well as Mail and contacting Apple twice and escalating to tier 2 both times has yeilded the person saying they didn't know and then hanging up on me.  Does anyone else know what I might try?

Okay, I had this problem and solved it as follows:
    1. Deleted any non-functioning iCloud-IMAP accounts from Mail's Preferences. I had two that were working fine, so I left those in place. One of those was the primary iCloud account on my Mac, i.e., the account used for "Find My iPhone/Mac/iPad" and iCloud storage, etc.
    2. Then I quit Mail and restarted my computer.
    3. Went to my other devices and made sure the primary account was the same one there. [Note: It was not -- the primary iCloud account was different on my iPhone versus my Mac, I think this discrepancy might have been the source of the problem, but I don't know.]
    4. I also made sure my wife's Mac uses a different primary iCloud account, one that is not on my machines, although we share one secondary iCloud Mail account (which is not the primary on any device -- it is always a secondary account).
    5. Then, following MChannel's advice upthread, I went into System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars, and added the formerly problematic iCloud accout that way. I have everything turned on for my primary iCloud account. All of the secondary accounts only have Mail turned on (although I don't think that matters -- you can turn on the other features that are available there if you like).
    6. Opened Mail and voila! -- everything is working fine. Accounts are all set up properly without me even opening Mail's Preferences.

  • How do I set up gmail in mail 4.5? Incoming mails are ok but I can't send mails.

Please can anyone help me setup a Gmail account? I can receive emails but my Macbook pro will not send out emails over my WIFI network. I understand its to stop spamming but there has to be a way for a legit user to send emails.

    Hello,
I just got a Mac for a first time and I'm trying to configure Mail 3.5 with my gmail account and even after having followed all the steps seen on this forum, I just can't do it. The messages that come up are:
"The IMAP server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages"
    AND
"The SMTP server "smtp.gmail.com" is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to send messages"
it might be very basic but I can't manage. Can anyone help??
    Thanks in advance!!

  • Mail.app not accepting incoming mail in .Mac Account

This problem has been getting worse over the last two months. Mail.app has been selectively accepting incoming traffic to my .Mac address, even those that I whitelisted through Rules and junkmatcher.
Incoming Mail from trusted sources, such as family and friends are not appearing. Until recently, subscriptions such as Versiontracker, Sundance, Apple Event, etc would populate targeted mailboxes, but now even they have not being accepted either.
This is very curious - because, if I access my .Mac accoun via WebDAV or another email client, the missing mail appears. After I manually accept an incoming message via a browser or another client and subsequently use Mail.app to view messages, the missing missives appear. I have not changed anything in either "Rules" or Junkmatcher. What has changed is system upgrades over time from 10.4.2 to 10.4.6. Now mail.app appears broken.
Any insights or fixes out there?
I will bring this up with the "Geniuses" at the SF Apple store. But for now, I'll be using another client until Apple fixes this.
    G4 Dual 1.42 ghz MDD FW 800   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Every time I've seen something like this being reported, the problem ended up being a rule that wasn't working as expected, e.g. because a rule had specified any instead of all, or because a rule was routing messages to Inbox, or something like that...

  • Apple (Mac) mail & godaddy hosting. Incoming mail problems

    Hello smiling
This morning my godaddy domain hosting transfer went live, and my incoming mail died. After an hour on the phone with godaddy support, they blamed my ISP. My ISP (ATT) blames godaddy. All I know is my mail worked fine with my other host server.
My POP settings are correct according to all sources. My spelling is correct. My password is correct. My email is still not forthcoming. I can send, but I cannot receive.Any ideas? Anyone?
I'm desperate to fix this as I just spent days transferring my website to save $10 a month. I don't even want to think about switching back. Has anyone else had and solved this issue?
Thanks in advance for your sage advice...

I am in the same situation, only I can not send... but am receiving mail fine.
Try the incoming server setting: mail.yourwebsitename.com
The "secureserver" settings do not work for me either.
I am trying to solve the outgoing mail designation, and I am sure it is possible.

  • Mail: outgoing and now incoming mail server rejects password

Hello all. Hope you can help with this one.
I was using Mail as normal yesterday. I use the same incoming mail server and SMTP server (my university's Exchange server). Then sending mail suddenly failed. The error message I get is:
The SMTP server “exch.wlv.ac.uk” rejected the password for user “(null)”
Enter your password again or cancel.
The settings are port 995 for outgoing mail, using SSL and requiring password authentication.
I've verified my settings and passwords with IT support. They say they haven't altered anything, and nor have I.
I've tried Connection Doctor: it says Mail connected with the exch. server without any problems. However, under Account Information, the server says (offline).
I've changed ports (to 25 and 587): no success.
I've deleted my password from Keychain and Mail plist and reentered it. No success.
    I've verified and repaired permissions.
I'm now not getting incoming mail either: the error message is
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “Staff POP” or try again.
The server returned the error: The connection to host exch.wlv.ac.uk on port 25 failed.
I can send and receive using web-based OWA.
Is there anything else I can do, or is it a server problem?
    Thanks,
    Aidan

May be no help to you Aidan except comfort in numbers. Mail has started behaving erratically for me in the past week. My inbox and account mail has disappeared and my accounts keep being rejected by the webmail host similar to your problem; password rejected etc.  Then Mail closes abruptly telling me there's a problem and offering to send a report to Apple. Mail is version 4.5 and the iMac is 10.6.8. Help!

  • Mail has lost my incoming mail/sent mail information

I'm running Leopard on my G41Ghz Mac and have been for the last week. This morning when I opened Mail my 3 POP account incoming/sent mail information has disappeared - all I'm left with is my .Mac trial account and my original folders in the 'On my Mac' area. My .Mac trial started a week ago so this is something new.
I can see the 3 POP folders in my Home/Library/Mail/POP'name' and I have a backup copy but Mail won't open them.
How can I restore my accounts?

ok, so here is what I would suggest you do:
    1) assuming you have lots of emails in the inbox/sent... mailboxes that vanished, then go to file>import and follow the instructions to import each of the mailboxes from each of the three pop accounts, pointing the import to the right path/location. Leopard Mail will import these emails to a mailbox created for that effect named import...
    2) go to mail>preferences>accounts and recreate each pop account manually. once done then go to your imports and move the emails imported to their rightful place in inbox/sent... for each of the accounts.
    hope this helps

  • Mail not 'bleeping' with incoming mail

Seem to have an intermittent problem where sometimes the phone will bleep/vibrate to notify me of a new email message in the inbox. other times the only time I find out is by seeing the little red circle over the mail icon.
have tried all the obvious stuff, restart, checked the general settings etc.
does this happen to everyone or just me??

Yes, I get this issue (I've raised other threads on it).
I only experience the problem with POP3 accounts. My Yahoo account works fine.
I've contacted Apple, they didn't have the issue logged on their internal systems. They recommended exchanging the phone. I'm on my second phone and still the problem (which I expected since I assume the issue is software related).
I've tried every combination of setting the accounts up and still have the problem.
Since my phone at work is mainly on silent it's really really annoying. Hopefully it's resolved in a firmware update.

  • Can mail stop storing incoming mails on computer?

Not sure if someone asked this question before. I am quite storage concious so I prefer storing the mails online instead of on my computer. Before Mavericks, there is a button where I can select storing the mails online. Where is it now? I can only choose stop storing attachments, drafts, deleted mails, etc, but not incoming mail.
