Mail inbox won't import

I just upgraded to Leopard tonight. It is working fine except when I first opened Mail it prompted me to import mailboxes from the old system. When I hit continue, the computer froze. After restarting, Mail works fine but the old emails are nowhere to be found. Any way to get that prompt to come back up? The mailboxes are there but the emails are gone.

Back up all data.
Try the steps suggested on this page. Sometimes a corrupt message on a mail server can be deleted by logging in to the server through its web page. If the problem isn't solved that way, continue as below.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. Move the following items from the folder that opens to the Trash (some may not exist):
Caches/com.apple.mail
Saved Application State/com.apple.mail.savedState
Leave the Finder window open for now.
Try to launch Mail. If the problem is solved, you’re done. Otherwise, move these items, if they exist, from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
Application Support/AddressBook/MailRecents-v4.abcdmr
Containers/com.apple.mail
Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (OS X 10.7 only)
Preferences/com.apple.mail.searchhistory.plist (OS X 10.7 only)
Log out and log back in. Try Mail again. If it works, you'll have to recreate some of your settings. Delete the items you moved to the Desktop.
If Mail still doesn't work, put the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash.
Move the subfolder named "Mail" — not the Mail application — from the Library folder to the Desktop.
Test. If Mail now works, it will prompt you to set up an account. Cancel and restore the Mail folder from the most recent backup you have that predates the issue. A corrupt database is causing the problem.
If there’s no improvement, put back the Mail folder and post your results.

While using my e-mail, my internet supplier shut down my connection to bury my cable. When my connection was restored, my e-mail inbox would not connect, nor would it allow me to shut down. I did a command + option + esc to force a shut down. Then, I restarted my computer. Still, my mail inbox won't load. (My internet connection for Safari is working fine.)

Hi Brenden. Thanks for the info. However, when I tried to do a windows / connection doctor, I got the rainbow spinning disc. I am not especially tech savvy and am finding this whole thing very frustrating. Comcast insists if my safari is working, whatever is going on with my MAC mail has nothing to do with them shutting me down to bury my cable and rebooting. I suppose I am going to have to break down and pay someone to get me up and running again. But, since I have no idea what went wrong the first time, I'm not sure how to avoid it again.

Can't Import Correct Mail Inbox

When I upgrade from 10.3 to 10.4, and I open Mail, I see most of my various mailboxes. But they don't seem to contain my latest mail. The inbox, the trash, the junk mailboxes contain mail from old mailboxes I've stored in my computer. When I try to use in the import command to import my current inbox, i get a message saying there is no OS X mailbox to import.
Why can't I find my current mail and why won't Mail import what appears to be the correct mailbox?
I'm going to be stuck on 10.3 if I can't find my current mail. Any tips on how to import ALL my mail?

Try selecting "other" as the type of mailbox, but then select your Mail inbox, or another *.mbox from \users\username\Library\Mail\....
i had this problem when I upgraded to 10.4 and it worked real easy. For some reason the older *.mbox created in Mail 1.0 aren't recognized as Mail 2.0

Mail Won't Import All Emails

I just upgraded from an iMac G4 running 10.3.9 to a SR MacBook Pro with 10.4.9. I used the Migration Assistant to move my mail, but not all of the messages transferred. I also tried copying ~/Library/Mail manually but got the same results. When Mail imports the messages, the progress bar has the correct number (### of 2167), but it stops midway and I end up getting only 532 messages. Any suggestions?

The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Here’s an example of the most common variant of this problem and how to proceed in those cases:

Your problem, however, is different in that you don’t even get an incomplete conversion. If Mail stalls during the conversion process, you may try to identify the mailboxes that Mail is choking on, quit Mail, move those mailboxes out of ~/Library/Mail/ (e.g. to the Destkop), and trash any Envelope Index-named files you may see in ~/Library/Mail/, so that Mail re-creates the index and tries to import the remaining mailboxes again, then manually import the problematic mailboxes as Other.
Alternatively, you may want to set up Mail from scratch and manually import your mail back afterwards. This would allow you to use Mail normally while solving the problem of importing the old mail as you see fit:
1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/. Move (not copy) the entire Mail folder out of there, to the Desktop.
3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop.
4. Open Mail and set it up again from scratch. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and check that everything works fine.
5. You’ll have to re-configure all your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
6. Do File > Import Mailboxes and follow the instructions to import your mail from the old Mail folder that’s now on the Desktop. Import the Mailboxes folder first, then each of the POP-username@mailserver account folders, if any.
There are two ways to import Mail 1.x mailboxes into Mail 2.x. The obvious one is importing them as Mail for Mac OS X. But Mail 1.x stored mail in standard mbox format plus some additional support files, and this allows Mail 1.x mailboxes to also be imported as Other, i.e. as generic mailboxes in standard mbox format.
Importing as Mail for Mac OS X produces the best results when it works, because it takes into consideration all the files in the mailboxes, not just the mbox files where the messages are stored, and hence, allows information such as status flags to be preserved. Importing as Other, on the other hand, may work in cases where importing as Mail for Mac OS X doesn’t, because it looks at the mbox files only, ignoring the support files which is what Mail 2.x usually chokes on, but precisely because of that, information such as status flags is lost and previously deleted messages may reappear.
Hence, you may try importing as much as you can as Mail for Mac OS X, then import the problematic mailboxes as Other.
Note that what Mail asks for when importing depends on the format chosen. Mail always asks for the folder that contains the “things” to be imported. If Mail for Mac OS X is chosen as the data format, the “things” to be imported are the *.mbox folders, so you must choose the folder that contains them, not the *.mbox folders themselves. On the other hand, if Other is chosen as the data format, the “things” to be imported are the mbox files, so you must choose the *.mbox folders that contain them in that case.
Note also that some of the mailboxes now on the Desktop may have already been partially converted to the new *.emlx format during the previous (failed) attempt to convert them in place. If you tell Mail 2.x to import as Mail for Mac OS X a mailbox that already has a Messages folder, Mail will simply ignore the Mail 1.x files present there. If the mailbox was successfully converted to the new format, that’s fine, but if the conversion was incomplete, that’s not what you want.
As a result of doing all the above, some messages may be duplicated. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

Mail imported into INBOX.mbox don't show up in Mail InBox

I had to use another Mac while getting a newer iMAC, and I saved all the mail on that folder, networked the two computers, and dragged the mail into the Library/Mail/pop-server.../INBOX.mbox/Messages.
I can see the messages that I had on the iMAC originally, and now I've dropped in the messages into the same folder. I can open each one individually if I want in that Messages folder, but even after restart, they don't show up in my Mail InBox.
What am I missing?

You’re missing that tinkering with the contents of the ~/Library/Mail/ folder in the Finder is not the same as importing messages into Mail.
Mail 2.x keeps a reference to every message in a file called Envelope Index. You cannot tinker with the contents of ~/Library/Mail/ without taking Envelope Index into consideration and expect that to work. The right way to import mailboxes into Mail is doing File > Import Mailboxes.
That said, you may be able to fix the problem by rebuilding the affected mailbox, i.e. select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.

After upgrading to Lion, Mac MAIL won't import address book!!

After a LONG download of the Lion upgrade, I find that I can't import my old address list from Mac MAIL. Anybody have this problem? Also can't setup any email accounts in Mac MAIL, manually or by import. This was no problem at all with SL.

vCard is a sort of standard that can be used in many addressbook-like applications.
Exactly how do you attach them?
Do you export the vcards from AB and then send them as attachment in Mail?
They should be included inyour mail without problem, and on the receiving end, when they have a program that support vCards, they should have no problem importing them.
Mail does it almost automatically, just double clicking will send it to your AB.
.MAc will not think it is a virus.
Do you have just address data in there or do you have something in the Notes field that messed it up?

1.x mail won't import to 2.x

I've been following the thread where David Gimeno Gost concludes:
The Import Mailboxes function in Mail 2.x is broken. The problem usually manifests when converting Mail 1.x mailboxes to the new format used by Mail 2.x, but may also happen when importing mailboxes that already are (and have always been) in the Mail 2.x .emlx format.
David went on to suggest an emlx>mbox convertor that worked for this person, but I am in the former category (trying to import mailboxes from Mail 1.x into 10.4.6)
The archive mailboxes that I am unable to import contain an "Info.plist" file, an "mbox" file, an "mbox.SKindex" file, an "mbox.SKindex.isValid" file, and a "tableofcontents" file. The only "com.apple.mail.plist" file I have is for the 2.x app (I did not know to back it up).
I have gotten to the point that Mail appears to be importing properly- there is a status bar and individual email subject headings are displayed in rapid succession-- but the resulting mailbox is always empty. And clicking on it does not allow me a Rebuild option.
Also, I'm not sure if this is related, but when I try to create new folders to organize the new mail I've been receiving, I get the message "Mailbox Creation Failed: Unable to create path ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/xxxx.mbox."

Hi Jonas.
Yes, both problems are related. Mail has a bug that causes ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes to sometimes be a file instead of a folder, and that prevents Mail from creating any mailboxes there, which in turn prevents it from being able to import mailboxes.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:

After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, proceed as follows:
1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
3. Locate Mailboxes. If it’s a file instead of a folder, move it to the Trash.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

No messages seen in e.mail inbox I pad2?

No messages or photos seen in the e.mail inbox of my I pad2. Only header and title.

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

LR won't import raw files shot in monochrome

I just shot a wedding. Half the images were shot in color, the other half were shot in monochrome(black and white). upon importing into lightroom only the color images would import. With the black and white files I got the error message saying that the files could not be read. I was shooting with a canon rebel t2i (550D), importing into lightroom 3.2 on a mac OS X.
Any help would be appreciated!

Otherwise, have you tried LR 3.5, in case a bug that affects the situation has been fixed?

Lost Mails after format and Import

I formatted and reinstalled my machine but when opening Mail and using the import function to restore my mailboxes and e-mails from the back-up all the software did was import the mailboxes, no mails. How do I restore my e-mails from my mailboxes and inbox in my backup?

Inbox won't load

Inbox won't load and if it doe's it is not receiving mail with attachments, I do still get junk mail.
It has been like this for a couple of days.

Hi Brenden. Thanks for the info. However, when I tried to do a windows / connection doctor, I got the rainbow spinning disc. I am not especially tech savvy and am finding this whole thing very frustrating. Comcast insists if my safari is working, whatever is going on with my MAC mail has nothing to do with them shutting me down to bury my cable and rebooting. I suppose I am going to have to break down and pay someone to get me up and running again. But, since I have no idea what went wrong the first time, I'm not sure how to avoid it again.

I have created a new (alias) email address specifically for general emails (shopping, etc). I was expecting it to pop up in Mail, Inbox next to my existing .mac account. It's not there so where do I find it?

Aliases are merely another address within the same account, you won't see additional groups of settings for them. You should however see them as an option in the pull down "From" menu when you create an email.

Am using Safari 6.0.5, suddenly my Yahoo mail account won't keep me logged in and the 'keep me logged in' button has disappeared. It is still there on Chrome so am assuming it is a Safari issue. It just happened suddenly. Have reset Safari.

I still don't understand what the problem that you are experiencing is. If you get to a page where yahoo is asking JUST for your password, and there is no box for username (it may have your username displayed, but not in a enter box), then you ARE "being kept signed in" You can verify this by instead of entering your password, go to www.yahoo.com home page, and it will say something like "Hi, Amber" This means you ARE signed in.
When you get that page asking for just your password, you are NOT being asked to sign in again. You are simply being asked to verify/enter your assword an Nth time. If you get that page right after entering your username and password, try clicking the "back" (previous page) button. It might just go to your inbox.
If this is the case, your problem has nothing to do with being kept signed in or not, the problem is that for some (unknown to me) reason, yahoo is asking you to re-enter your password, kind of like when your mac asks for your mac password when changing system settings. Yahoo does this as a safety feature when you go to account settings, and apparently abritary other times. I wish I understood just why I get it every time after signing in.
It could be because I have java turned off. It could be because I don't accept third party cookies. Maybe a cache file. Or a hundred other things... I don't know. It could simply be yahoo is scrooing safari users. I have glanced at the html, but to really understand it, it would take me days. There are over 25 places where username and password are in the html "source" code of the yahoo login page, and even understanding that may not tell me. In the past, I have seen code essentiall saying "if IE x.3.2" do this, if chrome do that, if mozilla do something else, otherwise make it next to impossible...."
My problem is not only I get asked for my assword a second time, but also (and only very recently) I do not get a prompt to save username and pasword. I have gone to yahoo help pages to try to figure it out, and I feel like I just run in circles. If one wants to send a question in, they have to answer half a dozen questions disclosing private information. And I pay yahoo $20/year. grrr
If when you are trying to access your yahoo mail and you are being asked to enter both your username and password, but didn't sign out of yahoo, then indeed your are not being "kept signed in"
