Mail is automatically adding a BCC to one specific address

I have one specific email address in my Address Book that is having another email address automatically added. I am not sure if the unintended address is in the CC field or the Bcc field. It is always the same email address added.
I have searched the Address Book and Mail and I cannot find anything that would do this.
My Address Book is synced through iCloud to my iMac, iPad, and my iPhone. All devices do the same thing when I sent an email to htis one specific address.
Has anyone had this happen before?
Thanks a lot for the help.
Adrian

It's DEFINITELY a bug! My wife's name is "Jac" and every time I correct the address book to be "Jac" with no surname (or no Christian name and "Jac" as the surname) with in a day or so her contact is listed as "Jac Jac."
It's not listed this way anywhere else. Her emails to me are listed with her full name, not Jac Jac.
I just checked and she was in my previous recipients listed as Jac Jac, so perhaps if I remove that entry from the previous recipients of all my machines this might stop. But it must have started somewhere!

  • Mail automatically adding last name to Contact in Address Book

Here is the problem. I have a contact "John" in my address book. No last name. I have his email "[email protected]" in his card. Whenever I send and receive mails from his email address (In Apple Mail) it automatically adds the last name "Doe" to the last name field in the address book. Is there anyway to stop this?

  • I have several different gmail accounts on mac mail and even when I send from one specific one by selecting it (and setting it as default!) mail gets returned to various different addresses. It seems to swich between them??

Switching between servers and accounts on mail.

It's possible that you have a problem with some outgoing servers and it's just moving through the list until it finds a working one. It will do this if you not have specific SMTP servers locked to each account?
Open Mail's preferences. Select an account and make sure it has the correct SMTP server listed. Also check the login and password for it to make sure it's correct. Check the box to use only that server for that account. Repeat this for all accounts making sure the server login and information are correct.
If an outgoing server fails in the future, you will ger a failure window asking to select another server or try again with the one chosen for that account.
You can also open connection doctor from Mail's main menu (under Window) and run the test. You should have incoming and outgoing servers listed for each account. It will tell you which are working and which aren't. You may also have intermittent failures. Run the test several times.
If this doesn't work, post back more info.

  • Automatically adding contacts to Address Book with Mail?

    Hello all,
This is my first post in the Apple Discussion forum, but I'm a happy Mac owner since July 2007. Here's a question I have; I searched to see if a similar topic appeared in previous discussions, but none turned up.
In Microsoft Outlook (on my work PC), I can set it up so that anytime I reply to an e-mail address from somebody new, the contact is automatically added to my address book. Is there a way to set that up with Mail and/or Address Book?
I was going through Address Book and noticed some VERY old contacts, but I know for some of them, I have more recent e-mail address. I hope I don't have to manually add all of them!
Thanks in advance for your help!
    All the best,
    MARK

Hi Mark, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Sadly, I don't know how to do it for received Mail, but ones you've sent to can be done in Mail. Select Window Menu item>Previous Recipients, press Command-A when the new window appears, and then click Add to Address Book, then in Address Book>Card Menu Item, select look for Duplicates.

  • Automatic Mail bcc and reply-to address

I just finished transferring all my archived mail from several years from Netscape Mail 7.2 to OS X Mail 2.1. There are 2 features which I used in Netscape Mail that I am unable to duplicate in OS X Mail. Is there any way to do the following automatically for each outgoing message?
    1. bcc a specific address other than myself
    2. provide a reply-to address different than the ISP addressed used to send the mail
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
    Bob

    Pascal,
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, I was unable to get either of the two approaches mentioned in your HawkWings web site link to work.
The script approach didn't work because the link to "Cricket's web site" at mac.com is broken - the page is no longer available.
I also tried the Terminal command approach unsuccessfully. I carefully used the "defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders …" command to enter my desired Reply-To and Bcc addresses, and even verified that they had been accepted using the "defaults read …" command. After shutting down and restarting Mail, the new Reply-To and Bcc addresses did not show up. Ditto after restarting the OS and then Mail.
    Any further suggestions?
    Thanks, Bob

  • Mail app automatically entering one of my configured accounts

My iPhone 3GS started acting oddly last week. When I press the Mail icon the Mail application enters one of my email account's inbox without me selecting which account.
I have three email accounts: two Exchange and one GMail configured. When I press the Mail icon, the application goes directly into one of the account's inbox. It is that account's Inbox and not the All Inboxes as the upper left has the account name 'back' button to return to the accounts folder list.
I removed all email accounts and re-added them. Same thing started happening. I restored the phone back to factory settings and re-added all accounts. This helped for a while but it started doing it again.
If I back out to the main Mail screen with the account listing and leave it there in about 15 seconds it enters an inbox on its own. Very odd. It seems to be the Gmail account that it enters but when I remove that account - it just does it to another account.
    Any thoughts.

You are correct that the mail app will open in the same way it was last closed, but this is not the issue. When I open the mail app, it generally is at the mail home screen listing the accounts, since this is where I almost always leave it. After a few seconds it will open the inbox of the first account in the list. If I back out to the mail home screen again, it waits 3-15 seconds(actually pretty random)then returns to the inbox. If all mail accounts are deleted, then re-added, the phone will function perfectly for 1-2 weeks. Then it will start all over again. This is VERY frustrating. We cannot be the only 2 cases where this is happening, especially given that our phones are completely different and running slightly different versions of iOS. I recently hard-reset the entire phone and will wait to see how long it takes to happen again. I will avoid installing additional apps with the exception of Facebook. I will have a company exchange account, my Gmail account configured as exchange, and my Yahoo! account. I know I should probably not even have Facebook installed to avoid the possibility that that is the culprit, but I don't want my phone to be entirely useless. I don't really feel that I should have to be the guinea pig here, but this issue is particularly annoying to me. And Apple phone care has not even heard of the issue. So again, PLEASE post here and call Apple if you are experiencing this issue.

  • HT5624 I have two mail accounts and one Icloud account. Thproblem is mail is going out with the incorrect sent from address. I deleted the mail accounts and added just one account back and mail still goes out with the incorrect from address and people res

My phone will not5 send from the correct address tht I want my mail sent from. Although my mail goes into the correct mail accout answeres leave with the incorrect sent from address.
I want to be able to send mail corectly.

In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account.  The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

  • Mail server automatically cc all email for user to other acct but group...

Back on April 2007, David_X answered this question:
How to have the mail server automatically cc all e-mail for user to other accounts, (gmail, hotmail, etc). Here is the old post that explains that:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4357149&#4357149
What I did not catch at the time was if you setup a Group, one of three ways, the cc step no longer works. There is a fourth way but it is not practical. Creating local groups on individual Macs.
    *Group method 1 per David_X:*
Use edited group files on the server.
The following sends to members of groups but does not show all recipients in the received message...
    In /etc/postfix/aliases, add...
    groupname: :include:/path/to/groupname.txt
In a file called groupname.txt (using plaintext editor)...
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    Reload aliases...
    sudo newaliases
    sudo postalias aliases
    sudo postfix reload
Mail sent to [email protected] gets passed to amavisd once, before then being relayed out for each individual recipient.
    *Group method 2 per David_X:*
    Make a user, e.g., "accounts"
In mail settings, select 'Forward' option and enter the group members' email addresses, comma separated e.g.,
    [email protected],[email protected]
This gets a bit 'long' for lots of members.
The email then gets sent to each of the people in this list.
*Group method 3 that I just discovered:*
Create a group in Workgroup Manager.
Drag the users you want in it.
    Save.
    Test sending to that group.
Best part, the group name shows up in Address Book if you have LDAP setup.
So I have setup all three. If I send an email to any type of group, they work.
    The problem:
If one of those members in the group also has a BCC setup to Gmail or any other outside email, they never get the e-mail copied out to the external account.
    Example:
I send an email to [email protected]. He gets the email there and also a copy at his Gmail account.
If I send an email to the Sales group that jsmith belongs to, he gets the email there but nothing at the Gmail account.
It looks like the mail server processes the "aliases" file and skips the "Recipient_bcc" file that handles the forwards.
Is there a way to have my cake and eat it too? David_X your thoughts also?
    Thanks everyone!

    Bump.
Short version. Sales guy has a Gmail account he wants his e-mail copied to also.
Send e-mail directly to his Xserve account, he gets it there and it gets sent on to his Gmail account.
Send an e-mail to the sales Group that he is a member of, he gets it there but it never gets sent out to the Gmail account.
    Ideas?

  • Mail Opening Automatically At Startup... On Laptop Only

I'm having an interesting issue with my Mac setup, that I see has happened to others as well:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8750623&#8750623
Here's my problem: the Mail application opens automatically on every system startup on my MacBook (first gen, 10.5.6) but does not do so on my Mac Mini (also on 10.5.6, 1.83 Intel Core Duo)
I have tried everything to find out what's happening. Here's what I've tried:
    1. "Login at Startup" is not checked in the dock icon
    2. It isn't in /Library/StartupItems
    3. It is not added in the Login screen in System Preferences
    4. I've repaired permissions
    5. I've emptied all caches/etc
    6. I even checked startup items in Lingon, couldn't find anything
    7. I even tried a full erase and install on the MacBook
None of these worked. Even after the erase and install, my MacBook still loads Mail upon startup, when my Mini does not.
I've read in a few threads that if you have iCal set up to send email reminders, that could be contributing to this problem. That's annoying but at least it makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that it happens on only my laptop. Apparently, the other person who posted this problem is having the same issue (see link above.)
To elaborate further, I have two accounts in iCal - one for personal, and one for Google Calendar, which is synced over CalDAV.
Strangely enought, I have some email reminders that are sent from one email address, and some from another. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as far as to which email account is used to send the reminders.
Can anyone help with these two issues? I'll be willing to provide any further information if asked.

I have the same problem on my Macbook. I really hate Mail (I used it IMAP with Gmail and didn't like the way it handled at all) and was so frustrated with the pop-ups at login that I deleted Mail and all its related files -- and then program finder started popping up at login asking where mail had gone! I just deleted my calendars from iCal and am hoping that will make it stop. Don't know why it's so annoying, but it certainly is.

  • When I delete an e-mail, it automatically puts another e-mail in my inbox which says "no sender".  What am I doing wrong and how to get all these off my I-Pad?

When I delete an e-mail, it automatically puts another e-mail in my inbox which reads "No Sender", thus I have numerous e-mails that have not really been deleted.  How can I delete all these e-mails and how to correct the issue of deleting e-mails?

Here is one way of doing it. Left click on picture, list opens click on save as. In next window box apears save as type PNG(*.png). Then go to my pictures and print picture from there. I am not sure what print target is? That is in the list also. That may be how it is directly printed. Never used that short cut. Try it and see. I know for sure saving it to file works.

  • Mail updating automatically

How does the Mail update automatically? As soon as you get a new mail? Or is it every minute?

Sorry, that "mail" thing isn't a standard part of Firefox. Seek support from the developer of the add-on you have installed that added that feature to Firefox. Support contact information should be on the download page for that extension.

  • Invitations automatically added to iCal

    Hi,
I'm having a problem where incoming meeting invitation emails are being automatically added to iCal and then moved to the Trash folder. I already have Mail>Preferences>General>"Add invitations to iCal" set to "Never" and iCal>Preferences>Advanced>"Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail" is unchecked. I've closed the programs, rebooted, etc. Still does it. Any ideas? Thanks.

It is the same with Macos 10.6.4. Invitation stopped being accepted after "upgrade" to the new ICal mobile me.

  • Automatically adding address'

Is there a way of automatically adding address' when I send mail?
If I compose a new email to someone I have previously received an email from but isn't in my address book auto fill will add the address for me but the address is nowhere to be found in my Address book. Is there a way of automatically adding outgoing mail recipients to my address book without having to remember each time?
    Thanks

    Not automatically, no.
There is, however, an Add Sender to Address Book option under the Message menu at the top of your screen. There's also a keyboard shortcut, shift + command + Y.
That way you can add them to your address book when you receive an email.
Mail keeps its own separate 'address book' called 'Previous Recipients'. You can access it under the Window menu. There is an option to add those contacts to Address Book in that window as well.
    Hope that helps!
