Mail is converting "some" PDF's into RTF's - why?

A buddy and I were just discussing how we have noticed over the past couple of months that some of our emails turn PDF files into RTFs. We aren't sure why this started or how it is possible. Anybody have insights into this one? I did upgrade to iWork & iLife 09 - is that it? Ideally we just want to view attachments as PDF's and not have to go through another program to open the RTF.

Greetings,
What you're describing would seem impossible. Mail has no capability whatsoever to convert from one file format to another. PDF files remain that way unless you use a third-party conversion tool, so the files you're referring to as changing to RTF never did; they were RTF to begin with.
Can you provide URLs for one or more of these "self-converting" PDF files?

Look at the doc.saveAs JavaScript method: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.524.html
You can save to other formats when you include the corresponding cConvID parameter. It can be used in a batch sequence, but you'll need the Pro version for that.

  • Is it allowed to convert pdf documents into rtf using Adobe SDK

    Hello
Can I convert pdf document into rtf using Adobe SDK?
Is available this functionality on c# code? Which assemblies i can use for it?

which is why it has to be on the desktop and not a server.
I didn't quite understand your statement. Could you, please, explain, why I can't use it only on the desktop and not a server? And, could you provide documentation, where I can find information about converting documents using c#?

  • How do I convert a pdf form into an app?

I am NOT a programmer but it seems to me that it shouldn't be that difficult to convert a pdf form into an app? There must be some kind of tool within adobe that I can use to do so? I am a member of Creative cloud.

    Hi Jamie1moon,
You are trying to convert the form into which format?
Adobe Acrobat can be used to convert a pdf into formats such as .doc,.docx,.ppt,.xls,.jpeg etc. but it will remove the existing formats and validations if any applied on the form fields.
    Please check: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/pdf-to-word-doc-converter.html

  • How to convert a PDF file into a full editable WORD file?

    Hi,
I tried to convert a pdf file into word but it is not fully editable. I can edit the title from the main page and that's it. The rest of the word document is saved as image. I tried editing teh pdf file but that one is not working either.
Please help on how to convert a PDF file into a full editable WORD file.
    Thank you

Not all PDF files are created equal.  When a PDF file is created with Adobe Tools it is usually "tagged" with information about the fonts the images, the layout etc...    This way when the PDF is saved to a new format like PPT or DOC then the results are usually usable.  However, if you have a PDF file that was not tagged for some reason then run the Accessibility tools on the PDF to acquire some basic tagging.  This may get you a better result.  Also if you have a PDF that is an image, then you may want to run OCR on it.

    HI Aijan,
I am trying to convert a pedigree chart so I can put it in my family's genealogy book. I need to make some corrections on it. It was created on a MAC and I am on a PC. This may be part of the problem. I am on Windows 8 on a 1-year old Samsung computer laptop. I have Adobe Reader XI on it. It says that I can convert a PDF to an Excel or Word file for editing.
It looks like computer code to me.
Here is the first page of what I am copying:

    Hi Sara!
Yes this sounds interesting. Can I update to that from the PDF Export I have just renewed? How much would that cost?
    Thanks for your quick answer.

    Hi johnhnk2,
Please see Getting Started with ExportPDF | Adobe Community.
That document will tell you what you need to know to get started. Please note, however, that it can take 24-48 hours for an order to process fully.

When trying to convert a pdf file into a word doc I only get graphics but no text. What to do?

    Hey hamsa142,
I think you are converting a scanned PDF to word.
You might need to run OCR first to make the text recognizable and then convert it to word.
