Mail is missing in my Macbook Air (5 days only)

Hi all,
So during the Thanksigiving break I didn't use my Macbook Air (version10.8.2). However, I continued to receive and view mail from both my gmail and yahoo accounts on both my iPad and iPhone.  And, you guessed it, when I fired up my MacBook Air on Nov. 26th I was missing mail from the last 5 days, even though I clearly received mail.
1) How do I push/pull those missing 5 days into the Macbook Air?
and
2) How do I avoid this problem in the future?
Many thanks for any help!

I found the answer from someone in the Apple Community Forums:
Here's the response back and forth:

Remove both of the accounts from Mail and re-enter them, you must choose Imap as the collection method, not POP

Sounds scary.  When I remove both accounts do I lose all of my downloaded email from years past?  Ideally, it would stay in the computer and then when I re-enter them it uploads the missing dates. Am I dreaming?

So you don't bother to backup I assume? Are these Imap or POP accountsIf Imap did you create any local folders for storageIf POP everything is local so you MUST backup first. (Unless you have a current backup available) Then you won't lose any of your mail. FYI, Gmail is probably setup on your machine as Imap, Yahoo could be anything.

How can I save an e-mail to documents on our macbook Air?

It's pretty impossible to figure out what you're really trying to do ...
If you're literally trying to save an e-mail to your documents folder (which I doubt), then you can open the e-mail, do a File > Save As ... from Mail's menu and do it from there.
    Good luck.

what does checking mail manually mean on a macbook air, how is it done?

In Mail's preferences click on the General icon in the toolbar. Here you can set Mail to automatically check for mail Manually.
Then to check for mail you would have to click on the Get Mail icon in the mail browser window:
which is the icon that looks like an envelope.

  • Since upgrading to Yosemite I can no longer receive e-mail on my Mac or Macbook air but can on my I-pad. Is there a fix in the works?

My I-mac and Macbook air will not receive e-mail since installing Yosemite  but I can still get e-mail on my I-pad. I have verified with my ISP that everything is working correctly on their end. Message by Inbox says Mail cannot send password securely to the server. Any fixes?

    Hi olejim51,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're not able to connect to your ISPs mail server on your iMac or MacBook Air.
There could be several causes of the error message you're seeing. I would start with the steps in the "Mail Connection Doctor shows one or more red dots in the account Status column" section of this article to troubleshoot the message:

This article contains a variety of steps that can help resolve an issue like the one you're seeing.

  • Mail slow on brand new Macbook Air w/ Mountain Lion

    Hi all,
I just bought a MacBook Air last month with OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion. But the Mail application is annoyingly slow.
I import form a gmail account. But shouldn't be a problem in itself, should it?
I've seen other discussions, but they all involve problems after upgrading to Moutain Lion. I just got it out of the box and already it's slow.
    Anyone?
    Thanks a lot!

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
    Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.

  • A problem to sync emails in Mail app between iMac and Macbook Air

    Hello members,
I have had a problem that can't sync emails in Mail app(OSX Mavericks) betwee iMac and Macbook Air. I have iCloud mail account and several Gmail accounts on the mail app.
Is there anyone to help me?

When both are at home on the same network and sharing drives, you can use a variety of tools.  Check the App store for fily syncronization.  Also, OS X includes rsync if you are a UNIX command line person, and there are shareware GUI's for rsync as well (RsyncX was one I remember).  Then there are commercial tools like Chronosync.
Another, albeit to my mind cumbersome way, is to use an airport time capsule and time machine.  You use TM to backup each machine, and use the option in TM to browse another TM backup to restore from (eg. come home from a trip, backup the MacBook Air, then log on to the iMac, browse to the MBA backup volume and restore what you recently worked on from there).
Or get a NAS device for home and use that as a common personal form of dropbox.  The key would be keeping a neat uniform directory structure for the things you need sync'd - like maybe just the Documents folder & subfolders.

  • How can I get e-mail to sync between my Macbook Air (mail) and iphone and ipad

I can not get my mail to sync between the devices ... deletions do not delete, etc...  Mail provider is from our ISP.  On the Macbook Air we are using Mail, and of course for the iphone (4S) and ipad (mini) using the mail app supplied.  Thanks.

  • HT2500 how can I synch mail between an iMac and Macbook Air?

I have a Macbook Air running10.7.4 and an iMac running similar.  I use Mail as local tool for my hotmail account but this means inevitably that mail is nt synched between the iMac and MBA.  I want to be able to access my mail from both computers but only do so nce.  I would love to be able to synch mail folders between the two so that I could keep my mail in order.  Only having to read/delete once would be a further benefit

set it up as an IMAP account instead of POP. IMAP syn with server (which also means other devices using that mail sync too) where as POP doesn't modify what's on the server. most hotmail accounts setup by default as POP

  • How do i install more memory in my macbook air? it only has 4GB

How can i install more memory in my macbook air? it has 4GB only and it keeps telling me my start up disk is full.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
In the case of the MacBook Pro with Retina display and the MacBook Air, memory is soldered into the logic board, so you can't add more memory after buying the MacBook.
However, memory isn't your problem. One thing is the memory and another thing is the hard drive, and you are running out of space in the hard drive, not in memory.
To fix this, just delete files that you don't need, or move them to an external drive, in order to make free space on your MacBook

  • Water has been spilt on my 13 inch macbook air (which is only 27 days old!). What to do? How much will genius bar charge to repair it?

    HI all
My Macbook air (13 inch) is less than a month old. Due to an accident where around 1/4 bottle water leaked into my bag on my way home and now my macbook air is now damaged. I immediatly tried swicthing it on (keyboard lights lit up but that was it) however realised after I should not have done that. It is currently at home, turned upside down on a towel. I know I will have to pay to repair it but realistically how much am I looking at (uk cost? the only info I can find through many searches relates to US costs. I am really not tech savvy at all so any home repairs are out of the question. My only option is to pay apple or buy new (whoch considering how much I spent a month ago I really cant justify. I am absolutly gutted as I saved for months for this and had to use birthday money too I cant even get a genius bat appointment to next week now so I am really stressing about this!
advice please? I am desperate and gutted!
    Thanks
    Em

They usually have a "flat rate" repair fee for portables.  It is something like $350.00 when I had my Macbook Pro (2008) repaired.  It could be more, or less for your device.  They will send it out for repair, so be expecting to leave the device with them.

    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Advice please - 2010 MacBook Air for net only?

I need to purchase a Mac for someone. The use will be for accessing the internet only, browser based email etc. It will need ethernet and a usb port for a printer. I assume I can use a USB>Ethernet adapter. A laptop would likely be preferred over an older iMac because of the smaller footprint. The price of used 2010 MacBook Air 13" (13" would be preferable over 11) seems good. Assuming that it's best to bring it up to speed with the current OS, is 2gb enough?
Is the 2010 MBA 13" OK?  any other models/suggestions/ideas?
    thanks!

The specs that I found show the 2010 as having 2- USB but no ethernet.
You are correct.  I failed to notice that my information source for the 2010 MBA says:  Ethernet Optional Apple USB Ethernet Adapter.  That is essentially the case with all MBAs.  Details matter. my apologies.
    Ciao.
