Mail is missing-What happened

I am out of town now and am usingmy laptop. I just went to check my e-mail since late yesterday and found I have no new messages. I went onto the apple server and saw that ALL of my messages have disappeared. What has happened and how can I retrive the messages that were there yesterday?
As of a few minutes ago, arounf 10:30 p.m., my messgaes strted arriving again, but I lost all of the previous ones.
Can someone offer some insight as to what happened?

Not sure what you mean. Are you saying that you normally use another computer? Also, it looks like this is a .Mac account. Could you please confirm this?
When you say that your messages where "there" yesterday, do you mean that you could see them in Mail or that you checked that they were on the server?
BTW, are you really using Mac OS X 10.4.1, as your profile indicates?

  • I can no longer share my songs as e-mail attachments. What happened?

I can no longer share my songs as e-mail attachments. The only sharing options I have are for Facebook, YouTube, Soundcloud, iTunes, and as Ringtone. What happened? I'm using the Garageband App 1.4(180.6) This happened once before, and by the time I'd gotten done submitting my question, the problem was fixed.

I powered my iPad off, and started it back up. Works fine now. huh.

Solving MSVCR80 issue and Windows iTunes install issues.
If the above doesn’t do the trick entirely, then use the instructions in the following as it applies to the version of Windows you are using:
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
You may be required to boot into safe mode to complete the folder deletion process.

  • Calendar events missing--what happened?

I was checking my appointments and just noticed out of the blue all my calendar info is gone! What to do? Some notes and appointments are critical. Thanks. I don't use MobileMe or any other cloud service.

Basically yes. Using iCloud and MobileMe in the past tended create or delete unwanted events on my husband's phone and vice versa. I try to back up often. Recently we both list family birthdays and all repeating events. We gradually put them back in. Now on my phone all events were gone. Are you saying a "rogue app" did this? I generally don't allow any apps access to my info; do you think this is what happened? If do, what is a preventative? In the past, using Apple's synch apps, we lost data. Are they better now?

  • Flashing Gray screen on my desktop and my dock is missing, whats happening?

Hi. I got this problem while ago, when I start it up and log in on my admin account I have this gray screen flashing on my desktop and my dock is missing. But I can still access almost everything but what the **** gray screen flashing is annoying and I dont know where my dock goes. Anyone knows what is happening on my laptop? Thanks.

Sounds like you have assistive services activated (There is a three finger short cut you may have in accidentally pressed)
    Check Accessiblity in system preferences
under display make sure Grayscale is not checked
under audio make sure flash display is not checked
As for the dock make sure you haven't got it hidden by placing mouse pointer to each of the left/right and bottom screen edges
If not go to the following folder in finder.
Open Finder window and mouse and click to the Go menu to view list of actions. On your key board press the Option (alt) key and you see a extra action location added after Home - this is the hidden library folder in your Home directory
This contains all sorts of personal setting preferences
Now continue to hold down the option key and mouse click on the Library item to open the contents in the main finder window.
Within the window locate and open the folder  - Preferences
    Locate this file from within
    com.apple.dock.plist
    move this to the trash
    Shut and restart your Mac
The default dock setting will appear - Empty trash
    Tell us how it goes.

  • I remember when mail actually worked–what happened?

Spam city. All these messages get through that shouldn't, according to the instructions. It continually makes known recipients junk, and unknown not junk. I've reset until I refuse to reset again. Is this a forced upgrade to Tiger? Has Apple stopped focusing on this client? CAn someone give me a way out of this junk mail **** aloowing me to keep my mac.com address? This stinks. One shouldn't have to put this much effort into something that used to work just fine.

What does "I've reset until I refuse to reset again" mean? If you've just tried resetting the junk filter in Preferences > Junk Mail, try the following procedure to thoroughly get rid of all the junk-related files and let Mail re-create them again. Note: The following procedure is for Mac OS X 10.3, it would be slightly different for Mac OS X 10.4:
    1. Quit Mail / Make sure Mail is not running.
    2. In the Finder, go to HOME/Library/Mail/.
    3. Locate LSMMap2 and move it to the Trash -- deleting this file is what clicking the Reset button in Preferences > Junk Mail does. If you see an LSMMap file there, move it to the Trash too.
    4. Locate DefaultCounts and move it to the Trash. This file keeps statistics about the number of messages that have been marked as junk, either automatically by the junk filter or manually by the user.
    5. Locate MessageSorting.plist and move it to the Desktop. This is where Mail 1.x stores all rules, including those used by the junk filter. If there is a file called MessageSorting.plist.backup, move it to the Desktop too.
    6. Look for the account folders. The name of each account folder starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. Open each of the account folders, locate the Junk.mbox or Junk.imapmbox file (a package, actually) within it, and move it to the Trash if present.
    7. Go to HOME/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/. Locate any Junk.mbox files there (their name may include the account name in parenthesis), and move them to the Trash.
Note: Messages in Junk mailboxes with an .mbox suffix are stored locally, and will be lost forever as a result of doing steps 6 and 7. If there is a chance that you have legit messages there and you want to preserve them, move them to another mailbox in Mail first. Messages in Junk mailboxes with an .imapmbox suffix are stored on the server and can be ignored (Mail will rebuild those mailboxes automatically).
    8. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either tell Mail to go offline immediately after opening it, or shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail, to prevent it from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
    9. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk filtering, and configure it however you wish.
    10. Go online again if you went offline in step 8.
If the above solves the problem and you don't have any rules you'd like to preserve or recreating them is not a daunting task, just delete the MessageSorting.plist files that were moved to the Desktop in the first attempt, and be done with it.

What happens to a mail item, when Fn-Ctrl-Alt-Del is pressed while in the mail tool? I can't seem to find the email file anywhere.
Looks to me like I permanently deletes the message.
Is there a way to disable this key pattern in the mail program?
Is this really a key combination you find it easy to press by mistake? To answer the question, no, it doesn't look like you can remap that, but note that if you choose Edit -> Undo immediately after deleting, the message will come back.

    what happens to my emails
< Email Edited By Host >

    Hi Hermann!
Basically rebranding doesn't really affect your account a whole lot.  It just makes the system whitelabeled no longer referencing BC in the system URLs and in the images (logo, system emails, etc)
Can I still access my website? Yes, add you add the domain to your site and redelegate you can access using the new domain name or the prior system URLs.
Can I still send and receive Emails? Yes, this is where you choose while adding your domain to the site.  You'll be presented options for your mail settings (with BC or remain external).  Select accordingly and note BC doesn't have mail migration so if wanting to keep all your current emails you'll need to back-up or continue using the external mail provider.
What happens to my emails still "hosted" at my "old" provider´s server? - Is there any risk of loosing any of my emails and how do I move them to BC´s platform?  When you add your domain to your partner site choose this service.  But leave email settings "external provider"  assuming you want to keep emails with the external mail host. So basically you can rebrand while still having external email provider.
What happens to the webspace on my "old" provider´s server, where my current website is still hosted? Is there any risk of loosing "normal" access to my site and how can I actually move the website to BC? When ready you'll need to add your domain to the partner site and redelegate over to BC.  Remember email if still wanting it to remain external select "external provider" for the mail settings.  Then reach out to our partner support to complete rebranding. Also if you have any additional questions you can work directly with our partner support to get you up and running.
For more details on the rebranding process please review this article. Probably best to follow along with the articles steps when ready.

  • All of the icons are missing at the bottom of mail.  What happened to them?  I need them back!!

All of the icons at the bottom of my e ail (delete, reply, etc.) are gone.  What happened?

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • What happened to the attachment icon in Mail?

I just upgraded to Lion, and I noticed that there wasn't an icon for mail attachments.  I looked into preferences and no option there.  I have to go into the menu to attach a file.  What happened?  That seems to be a pretty basic function.

You're right - it's not there, but it's such a long time since I've used it, I hadn't missed it! You can either go to File > Attach file, or do what I always do which is to open the folder containing the doc(s) you want to attach and simply drag onto the body of the email. You can also select more than one doc at once by using the Shift key (or the Apple key if they are not sequential) and attach several.

  • Last night, mail suddenly lost all my emails, which were stored in mailboxes.  What happened and how can I find my lost files?  I have the latest MacBookPro, running Lion 10.7.2 all software updates installed

Last night the mail application from Apple lost all my old emails, which were stored in mailboxes, neatly sorted by category.  What happened and how do I find them?
Details:  I shut down mail to run errands outside my office.  My late model MacBook Pro was on "sleep".  When I returned, I opened the application, and (RATS!) all the mailboxes were missing.  They just evaporated.
Operating system:  10.7.2 - all software updates installed and current as of 24 hours ago (12-30-11, 6 AM EST).
ln the mail program, the trash folder is OK and the sent folder is OK.
Yesterday, I did no maintenance on my mail folders.
    HELP!

1 - the sudden disappearance of my 22 mailboxes, used to sort the emails that I need to file for future use
That was most likely the result of some kind of corruption, as I've already said, not a bug in Mail.  Have you repaired the hard drive with Disk Utility recently?  That wouldn't be a bad idea.
2 - at random times, mail (or the server) says that my password is incorrect and I must reenter (fix:  usually I can quit mail, restart, and the connection is restored without reentering my password)
This is a known issue, where a failure to respond promptly on the server's end mimics what happens when the password is rejected.  There's no need to quit Mail, just cancel when asked to enter the password, take the account back online and try again.
3 - mail seems to resort the mail in my mailboxes at random time.  Several times a day, I must reset the sort to (a) by date; (b) by desending
Never seen that before.  That points more to some kind of possible corruption in your Mail data or preference files.

  • What happened to toDo's in Mail

What happened to ToDo's in mail? I used to be able to create a ToDo from a mail message I have not found a way to do that with the upgrade to Lion.

Hi, NO_PC.  I missed the to-do box on Mail also, but I played with Mail and iCal till I found how to do it.  I checked with Apple Express to be sure this was the way to do it.
In Mail, mouse over the header until you see the grab hand.  Drag it to iCal and drop it into the events column.  Then, grab the event and drop it in the Reminders column.  It will make a reminder but careful! cuz both event and reminder will be in focus.  If you delete the event, you'll delete the reminder too unless you first click in white space (or esc) to remove focus.  Then click on the event and delete.
Open the reminder and you'll see the URL box says "Show in Mail" so you can refer back to the original email.  If you "archive" the message it'll just stay in the archive mailbox till you're done with it.
I explained this in another section, if you want to read that (at the bottom):
