Mail is not recognizing password

I have more than one email account. Periodically one or the other will for no apparent reason refuse to recognize the password or a message will pop up that says the sever can't be found. Does anyone have the same experience or know where to find a fix? Is there better email software that doesn't do this? It is too time consuming to try finding out what is wrong all the time.

You could try deleting the accounts from your phone (assuming this is an iPhone issue) and setting them up again. This will resolve quite a few email problems.  If it is saying that the server can't be found that can indicate that there is no internet connection.

Apple is not recognizing my password. I haven't changed anything. It's been that same for years, now it can't access my email. Any ideas?

  • Mail app not accepting password

I have 7 e-mail accounts. 6 are Gmail and 1 is my university e-mail. Three of them are old (Gmail), three of them are new (Gmail). For some reason, my mail application refuses the password on the old ones and not the new ones. I recently had to change all my passwords because my PayPal account was compromised but Mail continues to reject the password on the old three. This has happened once before too.
Odd thing is Mail usually accepts those passwords and I can still log in through gmail.com so the password is correct. It's very frustrating,

Hey, I had the same exact problem.
This seemed to fix it: https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha
Just enter in your account info and it clears up the problem.

  • Mail will not retain password

My assistant and I have run mail for a year with no problem until recently. About 2 weeks ago Mail on her iMac OS 10.3.9 would ask for her password approximately every ten minutes. Yesterday my eMac OS 10.3.9 started exhibiting the same behavior. Any solutions?

I'm having the same problem on my G4 with 10.3.9. I had no problems until recently. I have three different mail accounts, and every so often Mail will ask for the password for one or the other account. It doesn't happen every time it checks for mail and not for the same account every time. The message that it gives is:
The POP server “pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com” rejected the password for user...
For example, I just ran Mail and it checked for mail fine. I then clicked "Get Mail" and one of the three accounts were rejected. I cleared that, clicked get mail, and a different account was rejected. I have run Keychain First Aid a couple of times. This is really weird and frustrating.

  • Mail does not recognize password for incoming mail

I use mail to retrive messages from two pop accounts a mac account and a work account. But now Mail shows a message saying that the server for my log in name does not recognizes the password. But if I use the webmail of that account it does recognize the password. I am able to sentmail from that account as well as to receive and send from the .mac account. What is the problem?
Thank you very much for any help.

Your email provider is not copmcast, that is your ISP.
You apparently have a comcast account that you access using their web mail. Not really relevant here as we are talking about accounts in mail clients, not browsers.
The settings you have posted are to access your comcast mail account in Thunderbird, something Thunderbird is designed to do. Manage multiple mail accounts.

  • Cannot get mail will not keep password

cannot get mail will not keep password

    Use Keychain First Aid:
Open Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities
Choose Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid.
Enter your user name and password.
    Select Repair and click Start.
If any problems are found run again to verify all repaired.
In Mail, when you add the password in the account window, you have to click out of the account to save. When you add the password in SMTP settings it saves automatically.

  • Yahoo mail will not accept password on new iphone 5

Yahoo mail will not accept my password and load e-mails.  What to do?

I e-mailed Yahoo for help with Yahoo mail and was given the following instructions:  Remove Yahoo account from your iPhone, turn the phone off and back on, and then re-add to trigger a re-sync on your Yahoo acccount.  This worked with no problem!!  I was also given a link for a Yahoo Help article which I have included below.  For those of you who are having issues, I hope this solves them!

  • After upgrading to 10.7.2 Mail do not store passwords

After upgrading 10.7.2, Apple Mail do not store mail account passwords and ask them again and again.
    What I have tried.
    1) When starting mail application and when it ask's account password and ask to save it, I have clicked the box. Only thing what happens is that, at Apple Mail ask's password at the end of the world.
    2) If I do not click the box, when Apple Mail ask to store account password, Mail will continue running flawlessy and get new emails like before 10.7.2 upgrade. Of course, if mail is closed and started again, then the endless account password questioning start again.
    3) If I open mail preferences and go to the accounts and add account password to the account password field and save it, nothing happens. Nada... Mail do not save account password anywhere and questioning passwords endlessly again.
This is very frustrating. I have work to do, and this ackward situation does not help.

    Hi,
I experienced similar behavior (neither Keychain Access nor Safari would start, Chrome cannot access https sites, etc.). It got fixed by following instructions in this article:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/163227/2011/10/fix_a_lion_file_opening_hang_in_m ac_os_x_10_7_2.html which I found in this thread: http://att.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=13625027#post13625027
Basically remove the ~/Library/Application Support/Ubiquity and restart. OSX will create a new one with the right permisions.
    /cheers

  • I changed my apple I'd e mail. Not the password. I cannot change the email in iCloud

I changed my apple I'd email , not the password. I cannot change the I'd on iCloud

You will need to delete the account from your iPad and then sign in using your updated details.
To delete the account go to Settings>iCloud, scroll down and then select "Delete Account".
On a PC sign out and back into the iCloud control panel.

  • Mail Prefs not recognizing my password

After I login to Mail and I select my name at upper right and select Account I am again prompted to enter my Password. When I do that I get a message:
    ==
Password is incorrect. Forget your password?
    ==
No - I did not forget my password!!!!!!!! I have entered my password many, many times and still I get this message.
I have no idea what to make of this. Also this morning I was prompted several times to enter my Mail password after I ...
now I just got a popup saying-
    ==
You entered an invalid MobileMe member name or password. Verify your MobileMe member name and password in MobileMe System Preferences.
    ==
All of this bs started this morning. I have been in my MM Prefs and everything is just as it's been for years!!
    Any suggestions????

    Linc,
thanks for the info. In the meantime, I shut down, re-booted my i7, shut down all auto-launch apps (Mail) and ran DU. When done, I again re-booted and entered my name and pw in MM then went to my account in upper right, entered my pw and it worked???????
When I open Mail on my desktop all of my mail folders are grayed out and your email has yet to appear. There is also a ~ next to my inbox and my .Mac Account in MailBoxes.
I wonder if there is a correlation between my creating a new Provisioning Profile in my Apple Dev account and all of this??
    Thanks again.

  • Mail will not add passwords

when i try to add passwords for my account in mail preferences they won't stay--i am always prompted to give password each time--when i go back into mail preferences the passwords are not saved, even though i have checked to save them

Open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, choose Keychain First Aid from the application menu, and proceed to repair the keychain. If that doesn’t work, try removing the password entry from the keychain and letting Mail create it again the next time it asks for it.

  • Mail will not take password

I changed my gmail password on the website and now it is asking me for it on my MacBook Air Mail and my Iphone and when I enter the new password it is telling me it is incorrect.
I works at gmail.com - I reset it and it still works at gmail.com and not on my computer or phone.
I deleted my gmail account from my phone and tried to reset it up and it didn't work.

    figured it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMabEyrtPRg&t=2m13s

  • Gmail account on 10.7 / Mail 5 not saving password in Keychain

This is truly annoying.  Every time I launch Mail (5) I am prompted for my Gmail password.  If I try to save the password to the Keychain, it will fail.  If I don't save it, it will work.  I tried deleting the account and recreating in fresh on my MacBook.  No effect.  So, is this a Keychain or Mail issue, or both?  (The password works absolutely fine on my Imac running Mail (4) under Snow Leopard.)  Thanks, all!

I sorted it out myself. There was only a Keychain for the System but not the user account. Now there is and it works...

  • Outgoing mail server not recognized

    Hi there
After a week of having Snow Leopard my outgoing mail address is now suddenly rejected by the server. I have tried to delete my mail box but that doesn't work.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks Ian

    I looked this up:
    Account information
    account type POP
    Email adress : (your address)
    File name : (your name)
    Incoming server:pop.prodigy.net.mx
    username:(your name)
    password:(your password)
outgoing server: (depends what you have configured) see further down.
tick the box use only this server
Under Advanced select advance on top of your menu.
Enable this account: tick this box
    Include when auto....etc:click this box
leave copy etc : do not tick box
Now still to configure outgoing server for that use connection doctor.
You find this in the drop down menu just beside left off the help drop down menu.
Click the doctor. The doctor goes scanning and find the incoming server a green indicator is lighted.
I t does not find out going server and a red light appears.
Double click on the message beside the red light
A menu appears for out going server.
In the top square empty all info that is there by clicking - (= the minus sign) under this top square
When empty click + to enter the details for outgoing server.
A light gray double click appears.
do that and fill in your details: smtp.prodigy.net .mx
give a name to this server:that name is the one I mentioned above depends etc
    click apply.
Close the window and you will be asked to save if it is not saved already.
Remember my first advise above when you still can not get connected the reason may be that your provider use a dynamic DNS address the changes every tim you log in for this change the DNS address as in my previous advise.
Please let me know if it works for you.Connection Doctor is the only way I could reach quick access to outgoing server.
Alternatively delete all the accounts and just follow the procedure for adding account.
Wait until the server is found take quite some time but you may still have patience after this.
I have spend 3 days to get it all right! and 3 hours phone my provider and 3 hour Apple

  • Mail.app not recognizing/only partially recognizing attachments

    Hi,
Since upgrading to OS X 10.5, mail.app intermittently doesn't fully recognize attachments. The mail.app *Message Viewer* window correctly lists the email subject and the no. of attachments. But viewing the message shows no attachment, nor is there any 'save attachment' button.
However View -> Message ->*Raw Source* will show the attachment, albeit encoded as base64
My workaround for now is to highlight the message in the Message Viewer window and then select File -> *Save Attachments...* But it's highly inconvenient. Right-mousing on the message in the Message Viewer window does not offer the "Save Attachments..." menu item.
I've experienced the problem with someone sending me an attached PDF, and also regularly from Outlook/Exchange people sending me meeting invitations with attached .ics files. They all show up as a message with 1 item attached in the Message Viewer window, but there's no attachment when the message is viewed, unless I select View->Message->Raw Source
Anyone found a pattern or a workaround? Experiencing the same problem?
    thx, ...b

Exact same thing here. This solution does work. But why doesn't attachment won't just show up when you view the message as Plain Text, which is, and always has been, my default. This has always worked in previous versions of Mail.
