Mail is preventing me from logging out - Help!

Hello,
Mail is preventing me from logging out.  I freqently have to force quit, any ideas on what is wrong and how to fix?

If you're sharing the computer with your husband and you have separate accounts, you should open the Users & Groups preference pane, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then click Login Options and check the box marked Show fast user switching menu... That will relieve the need for either of you to log out whenever the other wants to use the computer. Just select your user name from the menu next to the Spotlight (magnifying glass) icon on the right side of the menu bar.
As for the Mail problem, try the procedure below first.
Back up all data.
1. Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
2. Repeat with this line:
/Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.

  • Iphoto import freezes preventing me from logging out

Iphoto suggest I'm still trying to import a file but I cancelled the operation as it seemed to be taking too long but it doesn't seem to recognise that the task was cancelled. It's left me in a strange position that I can't do some operations as the iphoto importing must be taking presidence over some other operations. e.g it wont let me logout or restart the computer.

    Hi Terence,
I was eventually able to use the iphoto force quit after I removed the printer/scanning device. Before inporting I had scanned a document but received a connection error. I don't know if it was coincidence or not but once I removed the device I was able to use the force quit option.
    Thanks for your assistance

  • Why do I get the message that my browser is trying to block me from logging out of a website properly and to close my browser?

When I log into my online banking and then log out, I get a pop-up message that says my browser is trying to block me from logging out properly and recommends closing my browser to maintain security. This does not happen on any other website I log into.

Windows 7, Firefox 4.0. I have the exact same problem. Those solutions had no effect, I still get the error message described by OP.
And I also get "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page" as well as when I look at this page
    http://www.wbir.com/weather/radar/local/default.aspx
I get "Firefox has prevented this page from automatically reloading"
I know of tools/options/general/accessibility/warn me when..., but I don't want to turn that off for all sites. Is there a way to whitelist trusted sites so only those sites will be allowed to automatically reload and redirect?

  • Username automatically converts to lowercase, preventing me from logging in.

When I enter my username to login, Firefox automatically changes it to all lower case, so instead of FLastname, it becomes flastname. This prevents me from logging in, since the username is case sensitive. This did not happen until I upgraded to 3.6.11 from, I assume, 3.6.10. For reference I'm using Os X 10.4.11

  • Mail repeatedly prevents Macbook from shutting down

When I attempt to shut down my computer, after the countdown, a dialog box saying that my Macbook can't shut down due to Mail not quitting pops up. I force quit Mail and then it shuts down correctly, but this has been an ongoing thing. It originated maybe 2 weeks ago. Prior to that, I never had any problems with Mail preventing shutdown. Any ideas?

    Bryan, RC-R, TBrad, Barry, Eric;
I am new posting here, and only a 10 month Mac User.   I have had a similar problem with Mail.   I did try opening the activity window to examine for any processes working, during any Laptop shutdown actions.   The "Activity" screen for MAIL was empty.
I did find a thread (but I very helpful thread here) which worked and solved the issue.   I cannot find that thread again.   But what I did was follow the instructions, via FINDER, to GO TO a specific folder from the the MAIL.  It was called Cache.db   The forum instructions to drop it into the TRASH.   That particular folder on my laptop was about 6.7 Megabytes in size.   I dropped it into the TRASH.    Then I went through the LOG out process.  MAIL still required a forced shutdown.    Upon restarting the Laptop,  I tested MAIL for OPENING and CLOSING and this corrected the problem..
Search the MAIL threads here,  you will find the this solution, with better detail than I can provide.  What I can say is that it worked for me.    And there were 3 to 4 other replys on that thread with the same good outcome.   This fix was easy and simple, and produced no interruption in my use of MAIL.   No need to enter re-enter any information of any kind, nothing is lost other than eliminating the "hang up" of the MAIL application.   I am running Maverics 10.9.2
Best of luck to all of you.

  • Bluetooth Setup Assistant is preventing me from logging on.

I am currently using my older iMac in conjunction with my Macbook so that I can reply in Mail which is something I have not been able to do on my Macbook since downloading Mavericks in December.  (Yes, I've tried to fix that and have spent hours and hours and HOURS on it.) The older version of Mail on the iMac still works as it should, so I'm toggling between two computers.
Now, however, when I turn on the older iMac the Bluetooth Setup Assistant window pops up before I can log in and tells me there is no wireless keyboard connected.  That would be because the keyboard and the mouse are both wired.  For a while, when I unplugged and then replugged them into the USB port, the Bluetooth window would disappear, but not anymore.  I have tried Alt-Apple-escape.... no luck.  I have tried reboothing the computer and holding down C.... no luck.  I have been able to activate the mouse (sometime yes, sometimes no), but it's unable to access the Blue Tooth window/box to close it, or log me in.  It just moves around.  The box/window the message is in is not accessible. I can't close it, minimize it or do anything else with it.
I have shut down all my bluetooth devices on my iMac, moved the wired keyboard closer (someone suggested that in an earlier post and although it didn't make sense if it's a wire connecting it); when I was able to log in earlier I closed the Bluetooth preference.... I don't know what else to do.
I would really, really appreciate someone's help. I publish.  This is deadline. I'm very behind in my work.  I'm already jumping through hoops with the Mail issue.
I don't remember the iMac's OS X and can't get in to see it because of the Blue Tooth window. This is the old computer I'm not supposed to have to use anymore....
    I found the OS X  It's 10.6.8

  • Stop MBP from logging out

I can't seem to stop my MacBook Pro from logging itself out after 30 minutes of inactivity. Obviously, I have tried unchecking the box "log off after 30 minutes of inactivity" under 'Security and Privacy' -> 'Advanced', but this does not help - or only for a little while. The box keeps checking itself (and setting itself back to the default time of 30 minutes - I have also tried to change that) and my computer keeps logging itself out. It's very annoying and I haven't been able to find any solutions for it on fora like these. Hope somebody has an idea!
    I have a Late 2013 MacBook Pro running on OS X Yosemite, 2,4 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DD3

This seems to be the problem! The MacBook was provided to me by my employer. I can see under "Profiles" that they changed the login settings about a month ago (see screenshot). I will contact the IT-department and see what I can do about it - it's a really very annoying setting, given that I am the only one using this computer.
Many thanks for the quick help!

  • I am trying to shut down my MacBook Pro but mail is preventing it from shutting down and it will not allow me to quit mail

Does anyone know of a way to force quit Mail.  It is preventing me from restarting or shutting down my MacBook Pro running Maverick iOS 10.9.
    Thanks.

    itsKeef,
You're having the same problem? Do you ALWAYS have to Force Quit Mail or will it sometimes just Quite when you select Quit? Which model MacBook Pro do you have (e.g., "15-inch Late 2011"), which version of OS X are you running and which version of Mail do you have?

  • Mail keeps preventing me from shutting down

This has happened a few time now that when I try to shut down or restart my computer it doesn't untill I force quit mail even though it doesn't freeze or crash it just keeps saying mail is preventing my computer from shutting down. When I ok that though mail doesn't show it's window when I click it in the dock and thats when I have to force quit it.
I do keep mail as a seperate desktop or "space" but it works fine till I have to shut down. This doesn't happen all the time but its done it now and again, has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, this has been going on for a while. If you open Window > Activity' from the Mail menu bar, you should see that what's happening is that its trying to close the connection with your webmail server.
Sometimes it happens to me, sometimes it doesn't. I suspect its just down to the internet connection.

It's a quirk of BorderPane, see the JavaDoc =>
    http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/api/javafx/scene/layout/BorderPane.html
"BorderPane does not clip its content by default, so it is possible that childrens' bounds may extend outside its own bounds if a child's min size prevents it from being fit within it space."
I'm not such a big fan of JavaFX 2's BorderPane due to it's strange sizing behaviour for it's children.
A quick work around this quirk is to add the center content first so that it will be layered underneath the other panes in the BorderPane and have the root of the other child panes of your border pane be unbounded resizable Panes which fill their available area with an opaque color which will paint over the overflowing center pane.

You're not alone.  For me ther'es no HDMI in use, it happens when it's not connected to anything.  At first I had thought it was tied into VLC since it happened consistently there at first, but for the last week it's been happening anytime, no VLC running.  I'm trying to track it down as well so while I have no resolution yet, at least you know you're not alone.  VERY frustrating since I do a lot of file work and hate it when it does this part way through a 20GB file copy...
