Mail is real slow
When moving between e-mails it takes 6 seconds to show the new e-mail. To delete the e-mail it takes 10 seconds. What can be done to speed this up?
Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.

I am at a loss. even after reading other questions and responses. After upgrading to Mt. Lion, everything on my iMac slowed down. I knew more memory would be needed, so I went from 2G to 6G. That worked for awhile, but now, about 3 weeks later, things are slowing down again. Mail is especially slow, when moving from one message to another, and also just plain typing is delayed in mail. iPhoto has had the spinning wheel issue since change to Mt. Lion, but it eventually stops and the app itself is functional, so this is just annoying as much as anything.
Any easy, simple to follow instructions would be appreciated. Is it better for a novice to take to the Genius Bar or to an approved Mac repair center in my area, rather than attempt some of the solutions I've seen offered here. And, if I do, what's the likelihood the issues will be resolvable?? Clearly, I am not the only one with this issue ...
Thanks for any help you can offer. There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long. -
I had to buy a new iPhone, how do I retrieve my stuff that was backed up in my iCloud account? The guy at the apple store said it could take a few days iCloud was running real slow due to so many new accounts, is that true?
No problems backing up iCloud here.
Tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup
Switch iCloud Backup On -

When I upgrade to yosemite, when I have to send and receive mail is very slow
When I upgrade to yosemite, when I have to send and receive mail is very slow. Mails take a long time to be send and receive, and the mail boxes disconnect frequently. I am using the yosemite mail server and don't have this issue with user with Maverick.
Many ThanksSo let me see if I understood it right... In Mavericks you didn't had this issue, this only happens in Yosemite and you are using Apple Mail, not another mail client. Have you tried in System Preferences > Internet Accounts unchecking and rechecking the email checkbox on your account?? If that doesn't works try deleting and adding your account.
Sorry for the bad English -
My computer, especially mail is so slow
Does anyone know what could cause my computer to slow down so much. My mail especially is slow. Every time I write an email there are 3 to 4 lag times.....
I'm having exactly the same problem as Carolyn and so many others ... and I have 8 GB of RAM in a Core i7 iMac, so it's not a question of underpowered hardware.
Apple needs to come out with 10.7.1 ASAP. Should have waited for it... -
Since upgrading to Mavericks, Mail is extremely slow to load the preview pane or show email when mailbox is double-clicked. Is this a known issue? Or is there a solution to this issue?
Hi AngieLynch,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing some unexpected behavior in Mail.
Before troubleshooting on your computer, I'd strongly recommend backing up your data to an external hard drive with Time Machine, if you haven't already. This article can help with setting up Time Machine:
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
Next, try creating a new user account on your computer. You can add your email account to Mail in the new user account. If Mail is more responsive in the new user account, then Mavericks is working fine and the behavior is caused by conflicts in your own Mail or user account.
These articles walk you through creating a new user and setting up Mail:
OS X Mountain Lion: Create a new user account (applies to Mavericks, too.)

Since new update my games on Zynga hog all my memory and run real slow - I'm frustrated!
I updated firefox and flash as suggested and I have had problems ever since with it hogging all my memory and running real slow hanging up and constantly having to clear cookies and cache multiple times a day. I tried chrome and I don't like it. I like firefox how can this be fixed.
You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

My iPad is acting real slow...battery is at 100%
MY iPad is acting real slow keeps freezing up.
Quit all apps and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that doesn't help ....
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. -
Firefox has been real slow for past 2 days, IE is fine
Hi,
For the last 2 days Firefox has been real slow in terms of browsing and wont even start downloads in a lot of cases.
I upgraded to Firefox 4 today to see if it would solve the problem but it didnt. A lot of times websites show up messed up and its getting really annoying.
What is wrong with Firefox? You should also update Flash.
See http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] -
Foxfire is running real slow and and any search I do it says problem loading page.
when I get on internet it is real, real slow. but it does pull up aol.com my homepage. but then when i try to search even websites i visit regularly it says there is a problem loading the page.
A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
See:
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Firewalls
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Error_loading_websites
You can try to reset (power off/on) the router. -
When using flash player for games, the mac runs real slow
When using flash player for games, the mac runs real slow. It's also not the fastest at anything. Can I do anything to speed stuff up ?????
Have no clue. You provided no details and your system profile is blank.
Which os are you using?
How are you connected to the internet?
Have you contacted your isp to make sure the slowness is not coming from their end?
Max out your ram.
How large is your hard drive and how much hard drive space do you have left?
You you using the latest version of Adobe Flash?
Please describe in detail all you have attempted to do in order to resolve the issue. -
hey guys appreciate the help.. firefox is running real slow lately.. like loading pages takes a good 2 minutes compared to i.e or safari loading in under 2 seconds
i dont have many addons, just an extended status bar and thats pretty much it
what can i do other then just reinstalling ??'''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Start Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web link}
While you are in safe mode;
Type '''about:preferences'''<Enter> in the address bar
Select '''Advanced > General.'''
Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
Then restart. -

Sorry for the long postconf output.
I did requeue all the messages with postsuper -r. I also put them all on hold (postsuper -h) which allowed for new messages to be delivered as usual. Deleting the queue was not an option. I am pretty sure now that it was a spam dictionary attack. But I am still concerned that this would effectively bring the server down.
I looked into recipient restrictions but don't see any easy way to maintain an accurate list of my users. Is there a way to pull them from the LDAP directory? I guess I could do that with a perl script, shouldn't be too hard. Is there an easier way? Something built in?
Anyway the server is fine now. As I said I put all the messages on hold then slowly released them back into the active queue. Once the server was able to get over its hang up it chewed through the remaining messages ok. This still brought my server down pretty much the entire day. Not acceptable in most countries.
Any other ideas are welcome!
Thanks,
Josh

My mail is very slow, each email takes a long time to open. Any suggestions?
Suddenly my mail accounts are taking a long time to open. I'm not sure what the problem is. Anyone else have the same situation?
I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro as well - just the 15" model. I've been running Mountain Lion since it was released and have had no problems with my computer being slow, battery problems, etc. But some people did have problems with battery life after upgrading to Mountain Lion.
Have you installed the 10.8.2 Combo Update as well as the Supplemental Update? It should 'fix' the battery problem. I've no idea why your computer is slow, but you may want to take a look at this user tip - Why is my computer slow?
Good luck,
Clinton
