Mail is rejecting password

Hi everyone,
I tried to sign on to my Mail account (which has worked before today) and is not letting me sign on saying that the POP account will not accept the password. It's my alma mater's account and I signed on through the web-based service and my password worked fine. I checked the Preferences and carefully re-entered my password and it still won't work. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Same (similar?) problem. OS 10.3.9 and Mail 1.3.1. My ISP is SbcYahoo. My sbcglobal email accounts all send and receive fine. I have a "macmail.com" free web-based POP3 account from which I used to be able to send and receive email in Apple Mail. Lately, whenever I try to receive them from within Mail, I get the "Password rejected... please re-enter" message. I tried everything suggested here and elsewhere (Keychain Repair, permission repair, etc.) to no avail. The problem persists in my OS X 10.4.3 installation. I figured it was a problem with the "macmail.com" server.
On a whim, I downloaded the trial of GyazMail. I set up my "macmail" account. Bingo! Email received in an instant. Both email applications use the same Port 110, so why Mail doesn't work and Gyaz does is byeond me.

  • Can't log in to my (mobileme) email on Mail/Server rejecting password, Can't log in to my (mobileme) email on Mail/Server rejecting password

    Hi all,
I went to check my email in mail last night and my mobileme account was offline. (Gmail account is online no problem). I clicked to take it back online, but it wouldn't accept my password. My parents also have this address on their mail (2 x macbook pros on lion, 2 x iphone 4, 1 x ipad4 -if this is relevant!) as its our main business account. The same situation was on their devices.
I came into the studio this morning and tried the following on my computer:
-Re-setting password on iforgot. (This took a few attempts as I can't use alternative email address as it doesn't work and is years old, and it kept telling me my security question (Bday) was wrong when it was correct...) I got there in the end and changed the password successfully.
-Went to remove keychain, but there was nothing there at all for the account
-Deleting account and re-setting up. This didnt work, as it wouldnt accept my password (new or old).
This happened a few weeks ago as well, and resetting the password and resetting the account worked.
I also did the same on my parents devices, and the new account was set up fine, so we can at least access the emails via their computers.
The differences between the computers, and what I'm guessing the problem is, I am on Snow leopard (10.6.8), on old version of mail (4.5) and obviously not connected to icloud. They are on lion and the latest versions of mail, and on icloud.
I desperately don't want to upgrade to lion as I run lots of expensive software off my machine, (photoshop, illustrator, indesign, after effects etc) and don't want lion to mess them up.
Do you think the fact i'm on such an old version is the problem? Why would the account have been taken offline on the other devices initally though?
I have had different messages popping up:
"The MobileMe IMAP server “mail.me.com” rejected the password for user...."
"Logging in to the MobileMe IMAP server “mail.me.com” failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn’t correct, you cannot receive messages."
And something about the certificate not being secure.
Sorry, this has been all over the place - very behind now and rushing!! Hope it makes sense and someone can help soon, as I need to send a ton of emails this afternoon off my machine! :-) Thanks in advance!!

You can continue to run most PowerPC software in Mt. Lion by installing Snow Leopard Server into Parallels 8:

  • Mail / iCloud rejects password on one mac but not the other

I have just upgraded my MacbookPro and my MacPro from 10.6 to 10.7.
For whatever reason - the MBP works fine and can access all my email accounts, whilst the MP is constantly rejecting the password for iCloud.
My Mobileme account was upgraded to iCloud several months ago and has been in daily use on both macs ever since.
The only difference in the upgrades is that the MBP upgrade was not a clean install, whereas the MP was installed with a clean hard drive and then all apps/data was transfered over.
Disk permissions have been repaired and that has made no difference.
Both macs are on the same network, with the same passwords and same account settings. Any suggestion how i can resolve this problem?
    adam

i solved the problem by adding a new mail account to Mail, re-inputting the email address and password, then deleting the old problematic one.
    works a treat!

  • Outgoing mail server rejected password - using microsoft exchange email

    hi everybody,
so i have a microsoft exchange outlook email account from my school. i recently have started having troubles with apple mail sending messages. it rejects the password of my email account. i have gone to outlook.com several times and changed the passwords but to no avail. i know it used to work. i went on a trip to guatemala and came back and now it seems to hate me. i cant remember if the problem arose after my switch to snow leopard either..
i went to the help section on the outlook page after i log in but after i change to those settings its still rejects my outgoing mail password.
is there a bug with snow leopard? oh good as i am writing this mail just 'quit unexpectedly'..aww the joys of just having microsoft email- imagine a whole operating system based on such inadequacies (i must vent.. this is extremely annoying that i have to reply back to people with my gmail account)..
    thanks in advance!

It is likely the Port setting for the SMTP has either gotten changed while you were away, or your provider has changed what settings are needed. Check the settings carefully. If you know exactly what Port should be used, change to Use Custom Port, enter the Port manually, and proceed to test again.

  • Mail: outgoing and now incoming mail server rejects password

Hello all. Hope you can help with this one.
I was using Mail as normal yesterday. I use the same incoming mail server and SMTP server (my university's Exchange server). Then sending mail suddenly failed. The error message I get is:
The SMTP server “exch.wlv.ac.uk” rejected the password for user “(null)”
Enter your password again or cancel.
The settings are port 995 for outgoing mail, using SSL and requiring password authentication.
I've verified my settings and passwords with IT support. They say they haven't altered anything, and nor have I.
I've tried Connection Doctor: it says Mail connected with the exch. server without any problems. However, under Account Information, the server says (offline).
I've changed ports (to 25 and 587): no success.
I've deleted my password from Keychain and Mail plist and reentered it. No success.
    I've verified and repaired permissions.
I'm now not getting incoming mail either: the error message is
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “Staff POP” or try again.
The server returned the error: The connection to host exch.wlv.ac.uk on port 25 failed.
I can send and receive using web-based OWA.
Is there anything else I can do, or is it a server problem?
    Thanks,
    Aidan

May be no help to you Aidan except comfort in numbers. Mail has started behaving erratically for me in the past week. My inbox and account mail has disappeared and my accounts keep being rejected by the webmail host similar to your problem; password rejected etc.  Then Mail closes abruptly telling me there's a problem and offering to send a report to Apple. Mail is version 4.5 and the iMac is 10.6.8. Help!

  • Mail application rejecting password after pairing with iCloud

    Hey guys.
After updating to OS X 10.7.2, and setting up iCloud I've been unable to receive mail via the Mail app.
When I try I recieve the following message:
The iCloud IMAP server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “xxxxxxxxx”
Does anyone know of a fix for this problem?

    It's NOT FIXED!!!
It seems to work off and on more off then on
There is still an issue with wrong server being referenced and not accepting a password that works every where else.
Apple needs to put some serious effort into this and make a wide announcement about issue and when they get it fixed.
This is not tyopical for Apple to have such an issue and not have it resolved by now.

  • Why is mail keeps rejecting password

mail in 10.6 is saying my password is invaild but it's not how do I fix it so it won't reject everytime?

What are you doing when it tells you this? Verbalize, we can't see your Mac.

  • Mail server rejected password

The SMTP server "smtp.mac.com" rejected the password for user "XXX" Please re-enter your password or cancel.
This is the error I am getting on my laptop and on my iphone. It started on June 5th and now I can't receive any emails.
I have OS 10.4.11 an my iphone version is 2.2.1
I have read other people recently having similar problem with their Yahoo accounts(and didn't find a working solution), but I am using only Apple's Mail.
    Thank you for any help.

Problem resolved after renewing my MobileMe account with a credit card that hadn't been canceled.

  • Why does apple mail continuously reject password?

We have various networked macs that all keep throwing up the error message:
The POP server rejected your password for user. Please re-enter your password
You click cancel and it disappears and checks fine but then it flashes up again. It's becoming more and more regular on most of our accounts.
A solution would be most helpful!

Most common cause is more than one entry in Keychain, or corruption.
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

But of course it could be anything.

  • TS3276 Mail rejected password to one of my 3 accounts with Gmail, all old.  Successfully entered the account from Google mail interface.  What's wrong?

I have had Mail for years.  Have new MacBook Pro, set my old 3 accounts with Gmail, used them successfully. Yesterday, Mail rejected password to one of my accounts and does not accept it repeatedly.  I entered this account from Gmail page, no problem, so my password is correct.  Went back to Mail, this particular account is rejected.  Checked all Mail preferences, all are the same as initially set.  What is wrong?

In both cases, the default address is right.  However, upon receiving the email, it says the wrong address.  Thus, when people reply to my emails, I do not get it in my apple email, I have to sign in under the other (wrong) email address.

  • Rejected password when trying to send e-mail

When I try to send mail, I get a 'rejected password' message no matter how many times I reenter the password. What could be the problem? I lost one e-mail account when I did an upgrade to high speed about a week ago, and haven't been able to use my new e-mail account to send e-mail messages. I can receive messages using my new account and think all of the server information is correct---all in all-- a confusing mess.

    Yes, Bj,
I'm using Apple Mail version 3.6.
Where exactly do I put the fully qualified 'user name'?
I have three columns at the top of the page, Description, Server Name already filled in, and In Use By Account already filled in.
If I click on the Server Name I'm using, another option shows up at the bottom of the page, called Account Information, and below that a place to type in Description. Is that where I'd type my full e-mail address?

  • Mail rejects password

Hopefully some one can help me. I have comcast server, but i dont go on their site to check my email. I use my mail icon on my desktop dock to check it. So usually i click on the icon and check my email and when i go to send an email, a message comes up that reads -
*Enter password for Account "POP Account"*
*The POP server "mail.comcast.net" rejected the password for user "......(my name here")*
*Please re-enter your password or cancel -*
So then i usually put in my password and i dont have to do it again until i restart my computer next time. Well now the message is coming up every 3 or 4 minutes. I have the correct password. I called comcast and they verified it and i can go on comcast website and get my mail there but its easier to use the mac mail on my machine. anyone have a clue???

Trouble is, rejected Password doesn't actually mean that, LOL, one thing I read on this was somebody adding @comcast.net after the username fixed it.
I'm sure you've tried many things, but tough to tell out here what you've done.
Might try oine of these to setup an account to see if they work...

  • Mail and Exchange 5.5 Server (Round 2) "Rejected Passwords"

Mail and Exchange 5.5 Server (Round 2) "Rejected Passwords"
This one is huge, as you may have seen in my other replies to Mail and Exchange Server, I have had this working for over a year no issues.
Every once in a while I get a user that I setup and all of the sudden their password on the Exchange (5.5) Mail server (running IMAP, OS X Mail app)
    is REJECTED.
This is just no good, and still to me a Mystery.
    Has anyone seen this?
It seems there is some corruption happening on the Exchange Server, with the users accounts, preferences, settings.
The one way to fix it, (that I have seen) and the Windows server guys hate this, but I say too bad, completely move the afftected User's Exchnage e-mail account to another Exchanage NT mail server (they have 6 old NT 4, Exch Servers), once that is done, Mac OS X Mail app connects fine and ha no more issue with Rejecting passwords.
    Any feedback appreciated, thanks,
    [email protected]

I think I have the same problem without Exchange involved. I have seven different email accounts and two of them are acting like you describe: changes like deleting doesn't reflect on other clients (like mobile phone email client and webmail).
This also happens with read emails showing up unread so that if the email is been read and deleted same message can appear as new and when that message is deleted I can see two separate items of that same email message.
Also all marks of reply, forward or flagged are gone when the email show up as new again.
My service provider said that updates to Mail.app have previously made some big changes to way how it acts with email servers and thought that Mail is misbehaving with my two email systems.
I am using IMAP protocol with all accounts.
Thanks for any info and help!

  • My mac pro mail rejects passwords

two days ago my mail suddenly rejects all my passwords and won't send mail. i can receive mail but not send it.
macs seem to go mad for no reason. any tips on what has happened or how to fix this?
would appreciate any help as this is beyond frustrating and considering hurling laptop out of window.

I actually have it the other way thinking of my iDevices as windows into my mail and my MP as my main repository. I also set my devices to delete of server any mail I move from my devices inbox to minimize multiple deleting unwanted mail.
But the real issue was to be able to access all my stored mail on my MP when traveling. IMAP is a way to go, yes. But my concern, please educate me if I'm wrong, I have 6 email accounts. With POP I can drag any email from any account to the ame folder on my MP.
As I understand IMAP each account would have its own sets of folders. So where I have "Work" ot "ToDo" folder that hold all mail regardless of account, I couldn't have one folder "Work" and drag all mail to it because folders are created per account, per ISP (and I have multiple accounts from various ISPs).
So I'd have to have a Work folder for each IMAP account and have check each instead of one the way it's set using POP - ON MY MAC on my MP.
If I'm right abou this, then using a remote app like SplashTop 2 to use any device to login to my MP to read, reply, delete, store, then is a great solution since I'm actually working on my MP remotely. Only problem would be if I forgot to turn my MP on before traveling.
Am I on the right path?

  • Mac mail keeps "rejecting" my password

I am repeatedly receiving a pop-up window that says Mail has rejected my sbc global password. I'll enter the password, submit and the window pops up again. Sometimes 3 or 4 times in a row. Obviously, I'm not receiving emails while this is happening ...

This is often an indication not that there is anything wrong with you password, but that your ISP's password server or POP3 mail server is not responding to the query for mail by your client. It is a problem on the server side—not the client side—of the process, and there is little you can do about it other than…
    • notifying your likely non-responsive ISP, or
    • reducing the frequency with which your client queries for mail.
You can increase the interval from [for example] every minute, to 15 or more minutes, which will decrease the frequency. You do this in the General pane of the Mail Preferences dialog. You choices to Check for new mail: are…
    • every minute
    • every 5 minutes
    • every 15 minutes
    • every 30 minutes
    • every hour
Just imagine how busy those servers would be if every user checked for new mail every minute they were connected!
