Mail is sending old messages automatically.

Mail is sending old messages automatically. It's been doing this for about six months.
It only happens when open mail.
How can i stop this. I'm running tiger and have performed all the available software updates.
Thanks

First I'd backup your whole Mail folder.
Try trashing this file first, then logout/in...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
If that doesn't work try the .plists in...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/

  • Mail re-sends old messages

old messages (~6 months) get re-sent???

My mail application is completely screwed up: it
re-sends old messages to people and it's becoming a
HUGE problem. It's completely random but it happens
at least once a day. I'm also having trouble with
attachments -- i often can't open them (even though
it's just a file or something).
I would like to trash the application and just
re-install it. Does anyone know how to do this?
The easiest way is to use a program called "Pacifist." It allows individual packages to be installed. Just Google the program name and mac and download it. ($20 shareware and totally worth it)
Use your original OSX 10.4 install disk and run pacifist and re-install the mail package using Pacifist. Download any updates (ie: OS X 10.4.5 combined) and repeat the process with the updated mail application included in the combination package.
You will now have a fresh, current install of mail.

  • Sending Broadcast message automatically.

    Hi All,
I am using the SAP CRM 5.0 and I have assigned "Internet communication Manager" role to a user in portal. It has enabled the broadcast messaging option for the user. I have also configured the message, priority and duration for the same. And the scroll message is successfully displayed in the WebClient. Now I want to send the messages automatically using the code behind this message sending. I have found the class named CL_CRM_BM_BROADCAST_SUP which is used to send the broadcast message to WebClient.
But when I am testing/executing the class it is not sending ay message to the WebClient. Please guide me to send message to WebClient  using this class.
    Thanks

  • Mail:  Still Trying to Send Old Message?

Yesterday, I attempted to send Email with four attached files. Unfortunately, I didn't quite grasp just how huge those files were (a couple GB or so!) before I hit "send" the message. It was unable to send them, not too surprisingly.
So, I deleted that message from the Outbox and created an archive of the huge files, and attempted t send that archive in a different, follow-up message.
The problem is that Mail seems to be still attempting to send the original heyuuuge message. It seems to be queued up somewhere, and I can't seem to figure out where. It doesn't appear in "Drafts," in "Outbox," nor in "Sent," and I don't see the follow-up message with the ZIP archive attached either.
This is MobileMe, if it matters. Probably doesn't matter though, since I'm still able to send from my iPhone, and from the MobileMe website.
Previously, on the bottom left of the window, it showed a transmission rate of ~200KBps, suggesting that it is in fact sending it. Now I don't even see that, although, I do see the spinning thingie by "Sent," and a few other Email messages queued up behind it.
After force-quitting Mail, I see the progress bar again, but it's showing a transfer rate of zero, and also six messages queued up. Hmmm...
Any ideas how I can figure out where the message is queued up, and thus delete it? Is there perhaps some file somewhere with outbox content that I can delete in order to purge all outbox content?
My immediate inclination would be to wait until it comes back again to say that it can't send the message, but since it's not showing the progress indicator anymore, I'm not sure whether it ever will come back. If so, it's certainly taking quite a while. Hmmm...

Ah, never mind. Looks like the problem finally resolved itself. Not sure exactly how, but it seems OK now.

  • Mail keeps retrieving old messages

I was wondering if there is a way to set up mail where it stops getting old messages. I am trying to clear up my mailbox but every time I do it retrieves old messages from the server and then I have to clear those out. In addition, the old messages that are added come up as unread so my unread message number indicator on the icon is always high. I want to be able to have a lot of messages in my inbox but I just wish it would stop getting old messages unless i tell it to. Does anyone else have troubles with this?

    Just a curiosity...
POP3 and imap have implemented a 'last' feature. This is a value that represents the last message that the client (iPad mail) has seen from that server.
Sometimes the versions are funky and this 'last' is not implemented or not compatible.
Since this is an old feature (5 years as I remember) most sendmail servers support it. But, well versions and opinions being as they are some people don't use industry standard products and muck up features.
THis isnt all that helpful in solving the issue. But may be useful in diagnosing it.

    Hi,
Try the following, any one might work.
    1. The user id associated with the proxy need to service user. Please check that.
    2. Check inbound queue whether any message stuck
    3. You can try re-registering the queues

  • Mail is moving old messages from folders into the inbox

    Hey,
Mail has started behaving really weird. It has started to move old messages, from various folders into the inbox. When i try to move it back, i have to use the contextual menu to do that, drag and drop doesn't work.
Has anyone experienced this before? Help is greatly appriciated!
    /Andreas

    Hi Andreas.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), proceed as follows to re-create Mail’s index:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any “IMAP-”, “Mac-”, or “Exchange-” account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all the mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • My iphone sends old messages, message not delivered

So the other day I began having troubles with my phone. It's only been with one person in my contacts at the moment, but it's happening frequently enough to be irritating and concerning. Especially with the amount of texts I'd normally be sending.
When I message this person, more often than not, a little red circle with an exclamation point pops up next to the sent message, and beneath it reads "not delivered".
According to the person I text, they still get a message, however the messages are always older messages. Sometimes duplicate, but not always, it seems. The most recent duplicate was originally sent around 8am, and resent instead of a message sent around 3:30. The original message did not have the undelivered problem.
I have the iphone 4, this person has a phone that is not an iphone.
Today I went into a Verizon store and asked for advice. He told me to turn off iMessage, and that that should fix it, however I then sent another text and it once again marked it as not delivered, and sent an old message instead.
Please, does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks.

That means whoever you're trying to send an iMessage to either has iMessage turned off or doesn't have a data connection. There's nothing you can do on your end. The message will be held on Apple's servers for 24hrs, then deleted.

  • Mail showing very old messages in inbox

When I do a search on someone's name for whom I have received an email, I often get other emails with that same name (but a different person) that are from 2005!when I click on the email, there is nothing showing in the preview and there's nothing when I click on 'Show in mailbox' either. Any ideas where these very old messages are stored???

I see the choice in Mailboxes. I just tried it and unfortunately it wiped out all my 'trash' contents. I typically keep trash for 6 months out in case I need to refer to thing that inadvertently found there way there instead of a folder. Darn. I hadn't realized it would wipe out the ones in the trash folder. Yeah, I know they were 'deleted' from the inbox, and others, etc. but I still considered them safe until I deleted them physically from the trash mailboxes. My error but I can recover them from Time Machine. And ironically, the emails from 2005 are still showing up when I do a find on say, the name "kate". Oh well. still unresolved at this point. thanks for trying though.

  • Mail is still sending a message automatically after I deleted the rule

When I went on vacation I set up an auto-reply to tell people I was away. People tell me they are still getting the auto-reply. I checked the rule tab in Mail preferences and the rule is not there. I presume I erased it when I came back from vacation.

Well I solved the problem by 'removing' the rule and then shutting Mail down, and restarting it.

  • Mail program sends old email

    My husband's PowerBook - PPC G4/1.67ghz/Tiger 10.4.8/ Mail 2.1
intermittently sends out old emails previously sent to the same recipient. He found a fix in a help menu for an older version of the Mail program which said to make a change in preferences/composing. The option is not available in 2.1.
Has anyone (besides the one person who posted her in 12/2005 asking about the same problem who was never answered) else had dthis problem?
    Thanks,
    Gayle

This problem is caused by some index corruption that makes messages to randomly appear in a mailbox different from where they’re supposed to be. If that mailbox happens to be the Outbox, Mail thinks they’re waiting to be sent and dutifully proceeds to try to send them.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:

    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.

  • Anybody having problems in Mail when sending reply messages from a thread and the message is not showing in the Sent mailbox?

    Hello Folks;
    Got a weird one...
I am sending replies from a thread in Mail and they seem to have been sent (sounds) but they don't show in the Sent mailbox... O-0 These messages seem to have been delivered to cyberspace as they don't show in my Sent mailbox on my IMAP server... This has been happening for the last month... I have checked and verified all of my IMAP settings and Mailbox behavior settings... This is really weird and maybe a bug.... I checked all of my other clients that have access to the server on the same account and these messages do not show there either.... Any ideas?
    --prd54usa

The messages are getting to the recipient...
I am on a Comcast IMAP server if this has anything to do with it and the server settings are following the correct server port numbers, SSL settings, etc... I save Sent messages on the IMAP server for 90 days.... None of these "disappearing" messages were on the server for more than a couple of days.. Typically, these messages will get 'hung' in the Outgoing Mailbox for @30 seconds before sending... like they are being scanned for viruses or Mail can't connect to the server all of a sudden...
I anybody else here is on a Comcast IMAP server, and having this problem of disappearing Sent messages... This would tell us that it might be a Mail Provider issue with their outgoing server...

  • E-mail "Inbox" of old messages have all changed to text only after Norton scan?

    Hi,
Last night I did a full Norton scan of my computer and this morning found that all the "Inbox" messages "prior" to the time of the scan seem to have been changed to text only with various other codes and symbols but without the correct text formatting and any graphics. With these old Inbox messages the address and subject lines are also now empty as is the "To:" and "From:" In fact the whole space where these should appear now simply says "subject". There are also no graphics in the actual message area merely text and symbols. This has only occurred on my POP3 server Inbox. It hasn't happened to my other e-mail address which is an IMAP server. Nor has it affected the "Sent" nor "Archive" message boxes for the POP3 server system. Any new incoming e-mails I've just received this morning and post the Norton scan are ok however.
Is there someway I can recover or re-configure these old Inbox messages from what appear to be text to presumably HTML with the correct subject lines and text/graphics formatting which seems to have been lost since the Norton scan?
    Many thanks.
    Bob

Did Norton find anything in the Thunderbird profile. It sounds to me like it has quarantined your entire inbox, something Norton is very good at and the people and Norton are totally unapologetic for. Their attitude is they saved you, you should be grateful that they deleted a great load of your mail.
Personally I voted with my feet. No Symantec product get installed on any device I have anything to so with. I consider them as bad as the virus they are supposedly protecting me from.

  • Mail isn't retrieving messages automatically

This is a new one after upgrading to Mavericks. I'm on a new Macbook Pro 13".
Mail only sometimes works as expected, retreiving mail automatically, or every 5 minutes. Often, it does not retrieve mail automatically. I have to quit, then restart Mail. Then, it retrieves all mail normally. No other isssues.
    Anyone heard of this?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.
