Mail is showing incorrect email in inbox

Twice now I have had emails show up in my inbox that show the correct From Adress and Subject Line, but then the email itself is from a random email from over a year ago. I have to log into google.com on Safari to find out what the actual email is.
Has this happened to anyone else? this is very frustrating. Only started once I upgraded to Mountain Lion.
Thanks,
Steve

Assuming you're using the Mac Mail, I suggest doing a Mailbox ---> Rebuild from the Mac Mail menu.

  • Mac Mail Not Showing New Emails on Inbox

    Hello all,
So I have recently reindexed my Mail application because all of the emails that have been unflagged were still docking in my Flagged folder. I searched up some similar queries on Apple forum and someone suggested to delete the Envelope files under MailData. I did this and it works perfectly.
However, after doing this action, new emails (to my Gmail account) wouldn't appear on my inbox. Here is what happens instead:
    - New emails arrived, flash notification appears on the top right handside of my Mac
    - Inbox folder still empty, Important folder count is up
    - Checked Important folder, still couldn't find the new emails
I have 3 inboxes on my Mail, 2 Gmails and 1 Yahoo. The problem only happens to the Gmail accounts. Yahoo account works perfectly fine. I didn't change any settings from Gmail account in the past ~5-9 months.
Anyone have a clue what goes wrong here?

any luck with your problem TSG?

  • Apple Mail not showing any emails in Inbox when using Gmail IMAP.

I am using Mail to check my Gmail which is set up in Google Apps. The problem is that it never seems to synchronize properly with Gmail. Right now, if I click on Inbox in Mail, it is empty. Not one mail. But if I search for something in the search bar, the mails in Inbox appear. This happens on two computers, an iMac and a Macbook Pro, both running Snow Leopard.
I am using about 1.7GB of space on Gmail, so I do have a lot of mail, but for some reason Apple Mail never seems catch up and just run smoothly. Other people on the same domain hosted by Google Apps, also using Apple Mail are fine. Please let me have any ideas.
Operating system: Apple OS X 10.6.1
Program and version you use to access Gmail: Apple Mail 4.1

Welcome to my confusing and problematic world. We currently have 20-odd users on the Google Apps domain. 3 of them are using Apple Mail to access their mail. 1 is having problems. The only thing different about this user is that we imported messages in from Outlook using the Google mail importer. This is the only thing I can think. The importer seemed to ignore certain folders, even if we retried, and it created folders as inbox/insurance_ etc. I changed all the folders to INBOX in caps, as that is what Mail preferred, and removed the trailing underscore.
This is the only thing different about this user.
On a web browser looking at Gmail, I have:
    Inbox
    Starred
    Sent Mail
    Drafts
    [Imap]Drafts
    Apple Mail To Do
    Deleted Items
    Deleted Messages
    Follow Up
    INBOX/folder1
    INBOX/folder2
    INBOX/folder2/folder1
    etc...
    INBOX/Folder113
    Junk E-mail
    Misc
    Priority
    Sent Messages
4 More (containing Chats, All Mail, Spam, Bin)
I did another "Account Info" and got this: http://gallery.me.com/rtaxerxes/100023/Screen%20shot%202009-11-04%20at%2010.19.5 9%20PM
You'll notice, now it does have an Inbox. But the folders it says are 0 messages and 0 KB do actually have stuff in them on the web browser.

  • How do I make Mail stop showing notes in my inbox?

The obvious answer is to turn off the "show notes in Inbox" option in the Mailbox Behaviours tab of Account Info, but that option is not sticking. Mail in Lion keeps re-enabling the "show notes in Inbox" option across Mail restarts. The checkbox is not disabled -- it lets me turn it off, and after a view refresh it will stop displaying notes for the session. But when I restart mail, my notes are back, cluttering up my inbox.
I checked my com.apple.mail.plist file in ~/Library/Preferences, and the <key>MailShowNotes</key> was <true/> regardless of what I select in the Account Info dialog. I used a text editor to explicitly set the option to <false/> when Mail was not running, and now the option in the plist files stays <false/>, but Mail keeps showing notes in my inbox.
I thought maybe it was a file permissions problem, because after a clean Lion install and Migration Assistant migration of my user account, all the files in my user directory were marked with the ACL permission "group:everyone deny delete". That setting causes all manner of grief, as Lion was unable to unlock files when I clicked Unlock after being prompted, and so Lion was unable to re-save any of my files. Other settings like desktop wallpaper also refused to stick. I used chmod at the command line to strip that setting off of all my files and then finally Lion started working properly.
However, the com.apple.mail.plist file in ~/Library/Preferences, and its permissions, seem to get recreated with every Mail session. It does not have the "group:everyone deny delete" ACL permission set.
Seems to be a bug in Mail, or some other source that is overriding the preference.

I have been having similar issues with syncing notes, but do not want them to show up in my 'inbox' either.
I have tried both methods below in Lion Mail:
    1. Try rebuilding the mailbox and see what happens (Mailbox > Rebuild). If that does nothing, consider going to System Preferences > Mail, Contacts, & Calendars and unchecking iCloud. Let it do its thing and confirm that the account isn't shown in Mail any more. Then quit Mail and turn on iCloud again. Now is it gone when you launch Mail?
    2. Mail -> Preferences -> mailbox behaiors tab and uncheck "show notes in inbox"...I cannot do this as it won't let me save the setting, comes up with a message- The “Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty.
The 'Incoming Mail Server' field is not empty, although it is greyed out (p03-imap.mail.me.com) so cannot change it? Anyone else having this issue and know how to resolve it?

  • Make mail dock badge show all emails in inbox

Is there a way to make it so that the badge on the mail icon in the dock shows the number of emails in the inbox (not just the unread ones?)
    thanks

Thanks for the update. I guess it would be great if both Apple and MS come up with a solution for this issue as it is very critical. Please keep me posted if hear from them.
I found some article in Apple support with the following details. I tried both the options and it doesn't work either. More info here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/2.0/en/ml1002.html
Reindex mailboxes. To do so, quit Mail and, in the Mail folder in your home Library folder, move the Envelope Index file and any folders that begin with "Mac-", "Exchange-", or "IMAP-" to a different location, such as your desktop. When you open Mail, it reindexes all messages in local mailboxes or POP folders and re-downloads all messages from the mail server. This process can take several minutes depending on how many messages are in your mailboxes.
For a POP account, reimport mailboxes. To do so, choose File > Import Mailboxes, and then choose "Mail for Mac OS X." In the Mail folder in your home Library folder, select the folder that begins with "POP-" (for example, [email protected]). If the problem persists, try again, this time choosing "Other" and then selecting the affected mailbox itself (for example, Library/Mail/POP- [email protected]/Inbox.mbox).

  • How do you get Mountain Lion Mail to show sent email size?

I upgraded to mountain lion I think a couple months ago so I don't remember exactly when I lost this feature, but in Snow Leopard for sure there was an option that when composing a new email, a little bar across the bottom of the email showed the size of your email so when you were adding attachments you could see the size your email was getting to be. I obviously haven't used that in a while because I ahvent' sent attachments in a long while, but I have recently started to do that again and tonight when I was adding files, there was no bar across the bottom of the email at all so I have no idea what size my email was. Even when I hit send and the progress bar in the bottom left of Mail ("Mail Activity") that use to show the file size right underneath the bar also now no longer shows the size so I have absolutely no idea how big the email I sent was.
Can anyone tell me how to get the option back to show the email size of the mail your composing in that little bar on the bottom of your email as well as the file size to display as you are sending in "Mail Actiivity" window? Thanks so much if anyone can help. Thank you!

  • Emails received but no alert - Mails also show as read in inbox

    Hi Guys,
Just got my first BB from work (9300 Curve on 02 UK) - and I'm having some issues with email.
I set up my email account (it's a Lotus Notes Server) and am receiving emails perfectly well, but there is currently no notification sounding when emails arrive, even though I've asked it to play a sound and vibrate.
In fact, even the mail notification icon showing the number of new mails on the home screen doesn't update with an extra mail. When I go into the inbox, I can see the email has been received but it's marked as read which seems to be why I'm not getting any kind of notification.
My blackberry settings seem to be the same as my colleagues, so could this be a Lotus Notes / Server setting issue?
    Thanks in advance!
    James

    Hi,
Which protocol do you use on your iPhone? POP3 or IMAP?
I also suggest you log on Webmail, check if the email read/unread status on Web matches that on iPhone or on Outlook Client.
In case it's the rule that caused the issue, I suggest you start Outlook with the switch "/cleanrules", this will start Outlook and deletes client-based and server-based rules:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /cleanrules” in the blank box, then press Enter.
Then re-create the rule on Outlook, test if this issue persists.

  • Iphone 4 mail icon shows 3 emails, but do not show in the inbox

I set up my new iphone 4 with my email and all the mail came in yesterday just fine. Today, the icon updates when a new email comes in but when I go to the inbox, it isn't showing. It goes through the update process but nothing updates.
Is there a setting for this or is there a problem?? How can I see my emails?

I have had this same issue with my iPhone 4 running 4.0, 4.01 and 4.02. My wife has the same issue with her iPhone 4. We are both running on the same mobileme account. We do the same trick where we flip between folders to make the email messages show up.

  • Mutt/Offlineimap Sent mail is showing up in Gmail Inbox

    Hi,
I am just starting my journey with mutt and quite like the interface thus far but I am having trouble with sent emails showing up in my Gmail inbox.  It is a little annoying to always have my sent emails appear as unread in my inbox.  In my search for a solution I have found that this behavior sometimes occurs if you have Gmail filters that are set to never send to spam, I checked and do not have any such filters.  This could also happen if I had $record set, but I have specifically unset record.  My muttrc and offlineimaprc are as follows (I used several tutorial sites to help create these) (I have hashed out some personal details):

I use msmtp to send the emails (and they do send) but as far as I know that program should have nothing to do with my folder labeling.
What happens exactly:  When in mutt, I press 'm' and compose an email and send with 'y'.  Oddly enough, the email appears in my gmail inbox (the webmail) even before I sync mutt with offlineimap (I don't automatically sync).  Once I sync, I see the email in both my sent mail and inbox.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated

You have unset the record variable.

  • Mail not showing new emails

    Hi all
Since installing Lion my Mac mail program has undergone some changes, mainly for the better, but one is really bugging me.
When i received new mail under Leopard i used to get a blue dot by the inbox etc and a number count on the mail icon in the taskbar.
Now i don't get either unless i select count all boxes in the prefferences which is good except any mail in other boxes does not get hightlighted so i have to search manualy throught them to find the unread mail.
    Anyone else having this problem?
I have tried rebuilding, selecting inbox only and all boxes to be counted but still have same problem.
The new email sound works but nothing visual.!!!
    Cheers
    Kev

any luck with your problem TSG?

  • Time machine email backup showing incorrect emails

I have been using time machine to backup my emails. The great thing about time machine is that I could always go back in time and restore yesterdays emails after I had just deleted them by accident. Since I upgraded to Yosemite I notice that in time machine my yesterdays inbox not only contains yesterdays emails, but many more emails that I have moved or deleted already. My mailboxes are imap mailboxes, but all emails are also stored on my macbook air. Does anyone know how to get the old behaviour back, as before Yosemite? Or is this a confirmed bug? Any info will be much appreciated.

Inside the V2 folder are subfolders representing your Mail accounts. The names refer to the email addresses you use.
From the Mail menu bar, select
    File ▹ Import Mailboxes...
Import from the mailboxes in the restored folder. The imported messages will appear in a new mailbox. Move the ones you want to keep wherever you like and delete the rest.

  • TS3899 Flagged email has been deleted but mail still shows flagged  email in main mail screen

I have deleted some flagged email, but the mail main screen shows "Flagged"with 17 listed although they no longer exist. They have been permanately deleted from the trash also.

The sending of email is handled by the SMTP server. Something is wrong with your SMTP server settings, either the server name, your username or your password, or the port you are using. Since you got information from your email provider, try removing the account and adding it back, ensuring that you have everything spelled correctly for your server, username, and password. Make sure after adding all of that information that the account passes the verification.

  • HT4863 iCloud Mail is showing incorrect storage capacity

My Mailbox is currently showing 3.1 GB capacity, and is causing huge trouble in my iCloud backup and operations in several of my iDevices including my mac.
When I open my iCloud account, I've ensured I deleted majority all of my previous email and is left with less than 1 MB worth of emails. I've also emptied my trash bin and cleared both Junk Folder and Sent Items.
Even after all the clean-up the email capacity never moved and remained the same?
    Is there a bug?
Can I just delete this email account in iCloud and re-create it to avoid this HUGE 3.1 GB it is misreporting?

You only have 56.6 GB available to you. The difference between that and the 64 GB advertised capacity is taken up by:
The operating system since you can't use that for storage
and how GB is advertised and used/reported by the operating system. See:
How OS X and iOS report storage capacity - Apple Support
The update did not change anything except likely reducing the capacity by 10 or so MB since update typically add things and thus takes more storage for the operating system
