Mail is still checking deleted account

occasionally I'll get an alert asking for the password for an email account which is no longer installed (it doesn't appear under the preferences > accounts window). Any idea why Mail keeps checking this account??

No, but if you don't mind writing down all of your valid account information (imap/pop and smtp server names, port numbers, SSL or not, etc.), you could quit Mail, temporarily drag your /Users/marckula/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist onto your Desktop (this is for just in case you don't like what you've done, you can restore your previous Mail configuration by just dragging it back), restart Mail, and recreate your desired account preferences from your handwritten notes by going through the (first-launch) Mail setup "Wizard." I would think that that would get rid of attempted logins to phantom mail accounts.
Or, you could try double-clicking on the /Users/marckula/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist to edit it if you're comfortable with using the Property List Editor (I think you might have had to have installed the Developer package first) or using "pico" inside Terminal.app to edit it if you're comfortable with using Terminal.app. I'd drag a backup copy of it to the desktop before editing it, though.

I just discovered that Mail was not checking one of my POP accounts for 6 months. Mail pretends to check the account---the connection to the server works, etc.---but does not see the new mail that is there.
I have other accounts with the same ISP (free.fr) which do not have this problem; and other mail clients (e.g. Thunderbird) do check the account with no problem.
Any hint as to what could be happening will be apreciated...

Quit Mail. In the Finder, open Home/Library/Mail and locate the account folder for this particular account, and open this account folder. Next find the file named MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 -- delete this file. Relaunch Mail, and see if messages now download.

Mail tries to check all accounts at once - "server could no be connected"

i will try to explane this in english:
With Leopard and all the cats before Mail was checking my 15 accounts one after another. With Snow Leo Mail tries to check all accounts at the same time (u can see which account is check at the spinning symbol after the account name).
Now, when all accounts are check at once, minimum 3-5 account alert an error "the server could no be connected". Everytime i click on Receive different account loose the server connection.
Can i do something for mail checking my accounts step by step like Leo did?

Glad I found that there is at least one other person who seems to have the same problem checking for mail. I get the following annoyingly frequently and haven't found a solution:
"There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “user@xxxxxx” or try again.
The server returned the error: The connection to the server “mail.xxxxxx.ca” on port 110 timed out."
Could this be because Mail under SL no longer checks one email after another causing a network congestion?
Also since upgrading to OS 10.6 I have problems loading several webpages at once, which usually results in page-time-out messages.
I have checked the following: bypassing router, opening firewall, ports, changing network and internet settings with IPNetTunerX to previous OS values, but nothing helps so far.
I suspect nobody knows how to change Mail back to the previous 'mail-by-mail' checking which would help with the time-out issues.
I keep digging and hope someone else has suggestions what we could try.

Mail: How to check an account ONLY from specific Network Location?

I use multiple macs, and use my .mac account to synchronize mail accounts, rules, smart mailboxes, signatures, etc.
However, I'd actually like to specifically NOT check certain accounts on some machines.
Even though the account settings are synced, I thought I might be able to take advantage of "Network Locations" to create specific network locations like HOME or WORK and thusly create a combination of mail and network location preferences that would solve my particular need. The idea being that it would allow me to specify in mail's settings (somehow) that a particular mail account should only check the server for messages if the current network location is actually WORK, and if the network location was HOME, it should just not check.
Some other apps (ie: Snerdware's Groupcal) will check the network location setting and not perform checks if the current location is not the expected one.
So the question is, is there some way to make Mail.app 2.1.3 on Tiger do this?

30 messages displayed is the default, but you can change that. On your email page, under "settings" is an option to change the number of messages per page. One option is "no limit."

Mail program : checking multiple accounts?

Other than forwarding accounts on the web server, is there a way to ask the Mail program to check multiple accounts? I thought I had it setup correctly by setting the preferences as the following (but it does not work).
Under "accounts" I've set up all email address address domains that I want to have arrive in my inbox, and I separated each individual address with a comma, followed by a space.

Couldn't really tell from your post, but, do you have
multiple accounts setup for each of your email
address' with specific incoming mail servers and l/p
for all or did you setup one account in hopes all
addresses would be synced?

They all are variations of the same domain name... eg. studio@..., glen@..., other employees@...
So they exist at the same domain web server with one I.P address.

I deleted a user account on my Macbook air and it says "Deleting account..." but it's been like that for about a month or so. Do I have to keep waiting or do I have to do something else?

It has been a very long time and it still says "Deleting account..." and i cannot close my System Preferences and if i try to exit it says "System Preferences is busy and can't be closed. Users & Groups preferences is removing a user account and Home directory."

Connect the device to the computer.
In iTunes, select the content desired to sync.
Sync.
This is all described in the User's Guide, reading it may be a good place to start.

Changed e-mail password in windows live account - now cannot send email from iphone. Have deleted the account from the iphone and reinstalled it - the password is correct - still no luck - any advice ?

I changed the password in my windows live e-mail account. My iphone now recieves but will no longer send e-mails. I have deleted the account from the iPhone - reinstalled it and verified the password is correct. I recieve a message that "Cannot Send Mail" "the user name or password ... is incorrect. Any advice ?

Mail Problem - accounts still being deleted

Since "upgrading" to OSX Snow Leopard, my mail and iTunes applications are wiped clean! It has happened countless times now and it's becoming a big big problem. My iTunes seems to be working normally, however, my mail accounts are still being deleted and results in having to recover the MobileMe account. My third-party IMAPP account has to be set-up manually.
Whenever I boot up my mac book and start-up mail, I am greeted with a message telling me that sent items is being renamed (I think) and all of my email accounts are wiped clean. I have lost so many important emails from my POP3 account. There is nothing from a user perspective that is causing this issue.
PLEASE HELP! What is causing mail to act so stupidly and wipe my email accounts? How can I fix this once and for all. I have already ran the repair utility and also reinstalled OSX SL again. The latest update 10.6.1 has not resolved the problem.

Do this for BOTH devices:
Go to settings, internet accounts, and then log out of mail. Then log back in.
Maybe your email will sync with your devices.

Hey There I didn't need to change it as it shows my correct name in my icloud account. The problem is on my Mac where it still shows my Full name as my partners name.
For eg. if I send an email from "Mail" on mac and I use my icloud account then the name that shows up is my partners name when the email is received. If I send an email from the Icloud Mail box that I log into on my browser then the name that shows up when the email is received is my name which is correct.
When I go into preferences in "Mail" on my Mac to change my name, the name is ghosted out and doesn't allow me to change it ! ? It is here that it still show my partners name ?

Download the yahoo email app, if you already deleted and reinstalled the email account and still have issue.
This is a known issue with Yahoo email account.

Deleted account mail still indexed in safari

I configured mail to use an exchange account, which I later removed when I started using Outlook 2011. Even though I was prompted that mail, calandar, and contacts would be deleted when I removed the account, the email is still showing up in Spotlight searches. I've gona as far as manualy deleting the ~\Library\Mail folder, but the messges are still there. Do I need to force a re-indexing somehow to fix this?

Please disregard, I am a moron. i backed up the ~\Library\Mail folder before deletion by copying it to a location that was being indexed. Removed backup - all is well

I can't receive mail from my verizon/yahoo account on my imac running snow leopard. I checked all settings with verizon but still have the problem

My mail application on my imac will not download mail from my verizon/yahoo account. I contacted verizon and confirmed my settings to be correct. I don't get any error messages, I can send mail but I can't retrieve it from V/Y. Connection doctor shows all connections with a green light.
