Mail is unable to connect server because password check

Hi, since Tiger 10.4.7 I have the problem that Mail cannot connect to my POP mail server. The error message said that my password wouldn't be accepted from server.
I am sure that the password is correct because my pop server don't ask for a password (the server use single sign on from my internet access data).
The problem occurse very often if Mail runs a while (up to 1 hour) and than the cyclic email check fails. The error occours only at the first account in my list, the second is never affected. I tested this because I changed the order of my accounts and than the seconde (and now the first) account was affected by this problem.
Workaround is restart Mail and it will work the next hour.

Hi Jan.
I am sure that the password is correct because my
pop server
don't ask for a password
This doesn't make sense. What do you mean? How can a
password be correct if the server doesn't ask for it?
I had a similar problem. I change my password every three months, on the 1st. I changed, as usual, on the 1st of October, and instantly had problems.
Mail would sometimes refuse to connect, saying that it's got the wrong password. If I re-entered the password, Mail usually connected. Sometimes it didn't and I'd have to re-enter the password again. Meanwhile, that same password worked fine if I went to the .Mac web page, or to the discussions page, or to the iTunes store.
I quickly determined that it's not the password. It's not the server. It's Mail and/or the keychain. I dug out the old Keychain First Aid application, which no longer works. I dug out Keychain Access, which said that the last time I'd updated my .Mac password was July, which was incorrect. I quit Keychain Access and launched Mail, and was again told that Mail needed my .Mac password. I updated it, checked mail, quit Mail, and checked the keychain again. It still showed not updated since July. This meant that Mail was not talking to the keychain, for unknown reasons.
I updated the password in Keychain Access, saved and quit, and tried again... and again got the message that Mail had the wrong password. Quit Mail, relaunched Keychain Access, and found that Mail was not on the list of applications which could access that password. I added Mail to the list, saved and quit, relaunched Mail, and all is working.
At some time between July and today something happened which denied Mail access to the keychain. As I started having the problem after I updated to 10.4.8, I suspect the update.

  • Unable to connect, server not responding

    Hello,
We've resurrected a machine running 10.4.x from the dead back into use but it isn't happy with our network. It is configured correctly as far as I can tell. It responds to pings, can browse websites, and can mount other drives; however, when I try to mount the 10.4.x machine's drive from another machine I get the following:
"Unable to connect - server not responding." Which I know is completely untrue after testing ping.
I only entered the ip address in the Go > Connect to Server dialog. When attempting to connect from another machine I see a little more output:
"The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "afp://10.0.1.7" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)"
I am lost here, any help or observations are highly appreciated.

Hi kssi89, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Well, in pure Apple File System talk... -36 ioErr I/O error (bummers)
Not very helpful, but generally means a Drive quit being Readable or Writable since starting the operation...

But, in this instance I think it's not even starting to.
Assuming Personal File Sharing is on on that machine & Internet Sharing is OFF, I might try trashing these, reboot and set it up again...

using Bridge CS5 to exporting to flickr, but get error message "Unable to connect to Flickr, please check your internet connection and try again."  please help?

I'm experiencing the same problem. Don't think I can help, but maybe I can offer an explanation. It looks as if Flickr has changed their API and Adobe will need to update the export plugin to comply to get it working again. I found this announcement on Flickr:

  • HT204075 Mail can't connect to server because password is incorrect

    Hi,
Since I updated my mac book air with the last OS X 10.10.2, my email has been completely broken. I cannot send or receive.
I use Register.com with a personalized email (@perrinparis.com) and have never had any issues before. I spent 1 hour on the phone with one of their technicians who made sure all my settings (ports) were correct.. But it still isn't working. I unchecked use SSL and 'Automatically detect and maintain account settings'.. It still says it can't connect to the server. My hotmail account works just fine.
I have deleted and re-added my account several times..
    I'm hopeless

I had the same problem after upgrading to 10.10.2 last week.  Mail.app wouldn't connect to my Yahoo! or iCloud mail accounts.  I tried Unibox instead of Mail and that worked for a week, but then Unibox had the same problem.  Ultimately, what fixed Mail for me was to log out of iCloud in System preferences, delete my Yahoo! mail from System Preferences / Internet Accounts, then restart the Macbook Air into safe mode (hold down the shift key while booting).  While in safe mode, I went into System Preferences / iCloud, logged in, and enabled Mail, and then added my yahoo account in Internet Accounts.  Finally, Mail started to connect to all my accounts and I was able to receive and send mail again.
I restarted normally and everything has been working fine since then.  While my reply is not guaranteed to work for you, I sincerely do hope this helps!

  • IPhone4 when replying or forwarding mail messages i get a message that says Cannot Send Mail address rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying

When forwarding mail this is what i get
    Cannot Send Mail
A copy has been placed in your Outbox. The recipent _________________(email address) was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying.
Never had this problem before so not sure whats going on. Appreciate any help out there.

Sounds like there is something wrong with your SMTP server. Try going into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>select the email account in question, go to the Outgoing server (SMTP) and check the settings. It may be you do not have a username and password in one of the areas. The phone may say optional in a couple, but it is usually mandatory. You can also try a reset on the device, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. If neither of these work, then you will need to delete the account, then delete the SMTP server, then add the account back, ensuring you use your username and password everywhere, even when it says optional.

  • Can no longer send mail after upgrade. Says server needs password. Server says down not support a password. Any thoughts?

After up grade I can not send mail from road runner account. Message says server needs password, server says it won't support a password. Any thoughts?

UPDATE: I was able to set up the account using Eudora, and it worked fine. I guess it means that there's something funny happing with Mail.

    Hi,
I suggest you to follow the below steps to import Publish Settings File using Visual Studio
In Visual Studio 2013, open Solution Explorer, right-click the project then click Add and then Connected Service....
In the Services Manager dialog, click Create service..., then select <Import...> from Subscription in the Create Mobile Service dialog.
In Import Azure Subscriptions, click Download subscription file, login to your Azure account (if required), click Save when your browser requests to save the file.
NOTE: The login window is displayed in the browser, which may be behind your Visual Studio window. Remember to make a note of where you saved the downloaded .publishsettings file. You can skip this step if your project is already connected
    to your Azure subscription.
Click Browse, navigate to the location where you saved the .publishsettings file, select the file, then click Open and then Import.
Visual Studio imports the data needed to connect to your Azure subscription. When your subscription already has one or more existing mobile services, the service names are displayed.
NOTE: After importing the publish settings, consider deleting the downloaded .publishsettings file as it contains information that can be used by others to access your account. Secure the file if you plan to keep it for use in other
    connected app projects.
    Hope this helps !

    Sowmya

Which HTTP Listener are you using... This stack trace looks strange. I would expect to see reference to org.apache.jserv if you were running a supported environment. The supported Web Servers are JWS which comes with iFS, and Oracle HTTP Listener, which comes with 8.1.7 or iAS 1.0.2
Also please try with JDBC11 and let me know if this works

  • Mail is unable to connect to the internet???

Mail has been working intermittently for the past couple of weeks, sometimes it worked perfectly for a while and suddenly for no apparent reason it would stop. I would be unable to send or receive mail, except from mac.com. At that time I was running 10.4.10, and, as soon as I upgraded to 10.4.11 all my problems stopped. Until now. This time though i noticed that connection doctor was saying that Mail could not connect to the internet, even though every account connected and logged in without problems. My internet connection was on and working at the time. Incidentally I live in the back of beyonds so the only broadband availible to me is from an HSDPA modem which i connect using USB. 3Ireland is my isp but they tell me that the problem is not on their side. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

Try typing in your name and password in preferences, look at accounts, make sure it's active.

  • "problem loading"; "unable to connect"; "server not found" - ??

Been using Firefox 6 years with DSl. Recently have gotten nothing but the above messages - can't open any pages! Got a new DSL modem, re-downloaded Firefox and still can't open any pages - not even mozilla.com or google or cnn.
    Rebooted, restarted, etc.
Even tried to download Chrome, but it failed - and I couldn't find out why because the "tell me why" defaulted to Firefox.
... really no fan of IE ...

You can try to reset (power off/on) the router.
Another possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Unable to connect using Username/Password

So this is the situation here:
I am trying to control my Mac Mini (Leopard Server) with my iMac (OSX Leopard) using the Finder.
I'm not able to control the screen from my MM when I try to login as the MM's admin, but I am able to control the screen if I just ask for permission to control it.
What can be the problem here? Both computers are giving each other permission to access the screen and both have the same version of Remote Desktop installed (if that is relevant to this issue)

And you've confirmed that your setting the permissions under "Remote Management", and that's the one that's active, not "Screen Sharing"? What version of ARD are you running?
I have set the access to "Allow access for: All users". So in this case it should work even without having to login, right?
It depends on what you mean by "log in". You still have to add the computer into ARD using a user name and password with the appropriate ARD privileges on the client.
