Mail Issue Using AOL setting

Hey, just got my hard drive replaced and im trying to set up the mail application. I use aol mail and i called aol and they walked me through what settings i need to have. The issue is that its not letting me recieve or send mail. Here are my settings now and if anyone can help it would be grately appreciated.
IMAP Account
Incoming Mail Server: imap.aol.com
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.aol.com
(then the names and passwords are all in correctly)
If anyone can help me out, it would be great...thanks

Relay issue using aol

I am having trouble sending mail to an aol account and get the message that the server does not allow relaying?

Make sure that your username and password are correct in the mail settings. You can also try using other SMTP servers under the Outgoing SMTP servers option in the email account if you have other email accounts on the iPad.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Tap the arrow next to the name of the email account>Tap the arrow next to Account>Outgoing Mail Server>Tap the arrow next to SMTP and then turn on other servers in the next window.

Sending mail while using AOL

I log on via AOL through the modem. When I open my Mail application to check my .mac account it receives email no problem. I cannot send email for some reason using the Apple Mail application. (message i get)
"Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings."
The Mail Connection Doctor message is "Trying to log into this SMTP account failed. Please make sure the username and password are correct"
My username and password are correct.
Any help?

You're welcome.
Although your Mac experience is only a month old, how often did you use your Windows laptop to send messages with these accounts when at this airport or when on the train - or I should ask, when was the last time you did so with your Windows laptop?
If you can send messages with all 3 accounts using the authenticated SMTP server for each when connected to the internet via your ISP at home, this is not a Mac or Mail.app problem.
Either the SMTP server settings are not 100% identical as the settings with Outlook or the internet service providers associated with the WiFi network at this airport and on the train have made a change.
Next time when connected to the WiFi network at this airport and/or on the train, try using your .Mac account and authenticated SMTP server to send but disable the authentication for the .Mac SMTP server first. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below for the .Mac SMTP server.
Select None instead of Password for the Authentication and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
For the problem when connected to the internet via your parent's ISP at their home, try entering 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field - for the .Mac SMTP server and also for the other two SMTP servers used with these IMAP accounts not provided by your ISP.

HT5569 I have a new apple id, i'm trying to verify it, but the e-mail I used to set up the old ID is the same that I want to use with the new ID and I get an error message. How can I remove the old ID. i just need one.

I had an Apple ID, but forgot my password. I created a new Apple ID. I belive I used my hotmail account for my apple ID, but I need to remove it, because the information I used do not let me set up my new Apple ID

Why don't you just go to https://iforgot.apple.com and reset the password on the original ID?

E-mail issues and aol

Ok...I feel dumb. I have been using my aol site rather than the email available with new Macbookpro. I cannot forward anything successfully, so I want to go to the e-mail in Leopard. I find I have hundreds sitting there and cannot delete any. Also don't know how to save and I can't find a tutorial. Help

Mac Mail problems using AOL

Having mail problems after updating to 10.9.2 using Mac mail with AOL....
Most everything I compose is being saved as a draft. Sometimes several copies of the same mail.
When I put mail in the trash and delete them, they come back with up to 20 duplicates of the same message.
Anyone know of a fix for this?

After 9 months with the macbook pro and no problems watsoever, my AOL mail suddenly started having problems but not on my iPad or iPhone. There's no doubt that the problem was intitated by a change made by Apple to the software on my computer. As others have noted files with the email settings get scrambled.
The symptoms come and go, sometimes closing the mail program and rebooting will cure the probems. Apple recommends waiting 10 minutes , are you nuts? Trip (with appointment ) to Santa Monica Apple store and the tech was less than helpful , struggling under Apple's work two customers for their allotted 15 min.
Sorry for ranting in tech space but one of the benefits of paying the premium for Apple products is that they work. Apple we have a problem here, but you have a far larger problem ..... as a iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Apple stock owner I see the handwriting on the wall....

I use aol mail on pcs, MacBooks and the original iPad. All good. No issues for many years. I recently got an iPad third generation with AT&T lte service. Now much of my wife's email displays as garbage when i use the att service. Genius bar guys could not help. They guessed that the garbage being displayed might be HTML code. We all suspect that there might be some problem with the relationship among aol, AT&T (lte) and Apple, but no one knows where or how. My mail servers are set up the same on the old iPad and the new iPad (IMAP and SMTP). Bottom line is: I got the new iPad, and it does not work for my most important app. Wireless works fine.
Any suggestions? The genius bar guys started a trouble ticket.

I must be part of the "No one" that still uses AOL mail. I still use it (two AOL accounts in fact) and have used it pretty much without issue for years and years.
I have never had an issue with AOL mail on my iPad. I wish that I could say the same for my business Microsoft Exchange account that users swear by. Of the five email accounts that I have, the Exchange account is by far the most unreliable and issue ridden email account that I have.
Even my two Comcast email accounts work far better than my buggy Exchange account.

IPhoto4 and e-mail using AOL

I have iPhoto 4.0.3 and I could have sworn that last month I was able to send pictures via e-mail using my AOL. The other day, I was trying to send some pictures but I am unable to get select "America Online". Selecting the e-mail icon at the bottom of the iPhoto window automatically opened a "Mail" window after the picture was compressed. When I went to Iphoto>Preferences, the "Mail using" tab was set to "Mail" and the other three choices (including "America Online" are dimmed, and so can't be selected. Can you help?

Thanks Peter and Sue, but still problems. I was able to get into the mail preferences using minimal data on the first screen. I did change the default Email reader to my "AOL (10.3)" application. However, when I click Email on the bottom of the iPhoto screen, it still comes up with a "Mail" window. I tried quitting the programs and coming back in and I even shut down and restarted the computer. No luck, the Mail preferences window is still available and still has AOL as the default Email reader, but when a photo is selected for email, it opens a "Mail" window (with or without being signed onto AOL)

How do you access "trouble shoot" for mail. My AOL account is set up on the mail icon but it some how defaulted to another Wi fi account and could not receive email. We reset the the Wifi but somehow didn't complete the process.

I don't really understand your question. The Mail application cannot independently access a different wifi network from the one your computer is using.
Are you trying to troubleshoot your wifi (ie, you can't get into your own wireless network), or the Mail program (you can't get email)? Are there any error messages you see when you try to do one or the other?

Use AOL, when signed in to mail, it will not open mail

We use AOL for e-mail. We can log on but when we click on an e-mail, it keeps saying "waiting on ##.###.### " some numbers but will not open the e-mail. This just recently started. I tried downloading the software again, but it still happens.

FF should open now hopefully.
From there, if your issue is the same, one by one go through add-ons you want installed, making sure to restart after each one to find the one causing issues. If FF doesn't open again, go through the steps for clean install again and don't reinstall that add-on. Once found the culprit(s) and got FF going again without reinstalling those, go about restoring your profile data to get bookmarks and so back. Best to do that last so only have to copy files over once.
That is all I know on this. Really wish I could get an answer to why it is happening as the add-on causing me issues I use constantly, prefer it over others, yet now I can't because want FF to work. Hope this helped.

How to set up two POP e-mail accounts using the same POP and SMTP servers

I have an e-mail address based on a domain I purchased which is based on my company name. Now retired, I have purchased a new domain with a simpler, personalised name. My original e-mail account uses the incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) mail servers operated by my ISP; mail.btinternet.com.
I have set up a new account on my PC in Microsoft Outlook, and have successfully sent and received emails using the new e-mail address taken from my new domain name.
I have now tried to mirror this on my iPhone, but every time I enter all the relevant data for the new e-mail address, user name, password, mail servers etc., and then press 'save', I get a pop-up which says: "xxxx" is Already Added This POP account has already been added to your iPhone. ("xxxx" is the name given to my original e-mail account). Nowhere have I input "xxxx" in the course of setting up the new account.
I need both accounts operational during an extended switch-over period as I alert everyone to the e-mail change over. Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem?

What targeting the Mail.app preference file, do the following:
Quit the Mail.app first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Note: Moving the com.apple.mail.plist file out of the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
The only exception to this is if you have a .Mac account which will be recreated automatically and/or if you created an email account as part of the computer setup assistant when first turning on the computer when new.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailbox files at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old com.apple.mail.plist file from the Desktop.
Test if this resolves the problem.

The Java plugin has created a time unfriendly issue with my e-mail account, I can not open or send any e-mail without using this plugin, how can I eliminate this problem without dropping m. firefox?

A few days ago I tried to e-mail a friend, when I started A box came up and it required me to add a plugin..Java. I contacted my e-mail courier and microsoft, they told me that is was a plugin from Mozilla Firefox. Since then I must go through Java to send or open an e-mail... this is NOT to my satisfaction, it takes too long for all of this to open and if it is not cleared , I am dropping Mozilla and going elsewhere. Why has this occurred? Is this a result of the last update? If so can I delete the last update and continue on the other version?

It might be helpful for us if we knew exactly which web-mail provider you are using. It seems strange to me that viewing or sending web-mail would actually "need" Java for operation, its more likely that some other item on the web page needs Java to run some advertising or other garbage that isn't a necessary part of the web-mail functionality you want to use.

Be sure you are checking the email account that you used to set up the Apple ID you used to create the iCloud account. Also, be sure to check your spam/junk folder as well as your inbox. The email you should receive looks like the image below. When you get it, click the Verify Now link.
If it still isn't there, try going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in, click on Name, ID and Email addresses on the left, then to the right look for a link to resend the verification email.
