Mail Junk Folder Problem

My junk mail folder says that there are 1953 messages in it but when I click on it there is nothing there. The count for my regular mail works just fine and I can see my regular mail just fine as well. I can also throw away and delete mail from my normal mailbox with no problems.
How do I reset the Junk Mail folder so that it displays and deletes properly?
I have tried to "erase junk mail" and also "erase deleted messages" but nothing happens. I have also tried to delete the Mail folder from my Caches within my Library and also the Envelope Index from the Mail folder within my Library.
Does this sound like a familiar issue?

Hi BC Dezign, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Is this a POP or IMAP account?
Did you do these exact steps?
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • Apple mail junk folder old mail

My apple mail junk folder keeps filling up with old mail that i have deleted.  How can I stop it.

I agree with Satchmo.  Apple Mail's Junk Filter is a joke and has never worked.  I never had problems managing spam when using Eudora until I switch to Tiger Mail.  Since then, it moves good mail to junk, and even the most obvious junk stays in my inbox.  Every day for years now I have had to manually review all 1,000 emails of my daily emails to correctly ID spam.
And, it must be done each and every time email is retrieved because I tie delete from server to moving from in box.  If Mail has a false Junk, if I don't move it back to In Box right away, it is deleted from server on next check.
You can't train it.  I've been clicking "Junk" on the crap for years and still comes to my In Box.  I've reset training at least a dozen times, but it never works.
I predict Apple will never fix this.

  • Cannot delete files from Mail Junk folder

I have an issue with Mail.  I have two messages without content that cannot be deleted from the Junk folder.  I can change the classification (junk to not junk); try to move them to another folder, but nothing works.  This problem is unique to my MacBook Air -- I have the same programs and files on my office MacBook Pro and there is no issue -- I was able to delete the same files without an issue.

    I am running mac 10.6.7
I have tried updating the software, operating system,
Then you should have Mac OS X 10.6.8

  • Is there any way to use the Yahoo! Bulk folder as the Mail "Junk" folder?

I've been helping a few people with Yahoo! accounts and they'd like to use the Yahoo! "Bulk Mail" folder as their "Junk" folder so they don't have to select the messages in their Bulk folder in order to delete them with Apple Mail.
Unfortunately, I haven't found a way; you can tell Mail to use the Yahoo! Bulk Mail folder for Junk all day, but it never "takes."

I have several Yahoo! accounts, as well, and have a similar issue. No solution for me.

  • My Hotmail is marking certain messages as Junk; these messages do not appear in my Mac Mail Junk folder. How can I rectify this?

I am using Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.2) on my MacBook (mid-2009); Mail version 6.1 (1498).
My Junk Mail permissions are as follows:
    - Enable junk mail filering
    - When junk mail arrives: Move it to the Junk mailbox
    - The following types of messages are exempt from junk mail filtering: Sender of messafe is in my Contacts and my Previous Recipients, Message is addressed using my full name
    - Trust junk mail headers in messages
My junk messages are never automatically deleted
My incoming mail server is pop3.live.com
I do not know where to find the junk mail settings on the hotmail website.
How do I make sure I'm not missing reading my junk when I use Mac Mail?
Many thanks for your help in advance.

Part of training the junk filter is also to mark good messages 'As Not Junk'.

I would like to block receiving mail from few people. Is there any such setting needs to be done progrmatically through java mail api.Again this is user dependent.
Also i would like to know that if i want to move messages from inbox to user created folder ,how do i do it.Also the status should be copied.

To block receiving mail from few people, you can achive this by settimg up channel wide filters, or by mapping file.
To move messages from inbox to user created folder use mboxutil.

  • Mail Going to Junk Folder that is Not Junk

I have mail that is going to my junk folder that is not junk.  When I look at the "thumb" symbol for the mail, the thumb is down, meaning that it doesn't think it is junk either.  Even when I turn my "Enable Junk Mail Filtering" off in Preferences, the mail still goes to junk.  No idea how to fix this.  It seems like a glitch!

Thank you Nubz N. and BobHarris for your feedback on the issue.  I had actually already tried resetting my junk settings in Apple Mail and had no success, and trust me BobHarris, I was not using the Junk key as the delete key.
It turned out that I had to go directly to the email source's website, which in this case was Gmail, and change my junk settings there.  Apple Mail was perceiving the incoming mail as "Not Junk", but because Gmail was viewing it as junk, it was still going to my Apple Mail junk folder.  I'm not sure why Gmail was viewing it as junk, as I had never clicked junk before.  Anyway, after changing the junk settings there at Gmail, the filter has now been working properly again.

  • Good mail going to Junk folder -- even Apple mail

I know there are other threads on this, but no one seems to have a resolve for it.
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
Just got my computer repaired at Apple, new harddrive, new video card.  So it's starting anew.
However, even my MacBookAir is putting my GOOD MAIL in my JUNK FOLDER.  So it's universal on all my devices.
Why is my mail going to my junk folder.  It's annoying to have to check every single piece of mail with "this is not junk" and then drag it to the IN box.  And then even that doesn't work.  I'll still receive the email from the same sender back into my Junk Folder.
I see a LOT, hundreds, of VIEWS for this issue, but no one is yet to resolve it.
Hope someone can solve it.  Thanks

Well, let's put it this way, it was never a problem before.  A new harddrive was installed on my computer so I'm starting from scratch.  I have no "rules" set yet.  My mail supplier is MAC --.mac, .icloud -- mail.  So my provider is MAC or APPLE I guess.  It's mac mail.
Everything is set to "default" right now. I followed someone else's instructions to RESET the Junk Mail.  Did that.
But I don't know any other proceedures to take to stop ALL MY MAIL from going into the JUNK EMAIL BOX.
Never did that before, so there must be some setting, or not, that is causing it to do that.
I have "enable junk mail filtering" checked.  The following types of messages are EXEMPT, my address book, previous recipients, messages using my full name, all checked.
Certainly "previous recipients" should not be sent to the junk folder if that option is checked to be exempt.
    What's left?

  • Classified junk mail intermittently not moving to junk folder

    Hello,
I am running Thunderbird 31.3.0 and all of a sudden the junk mail (which is classified and marked) is not being moved to the junk mail folder intermittently on some of the IMAP accounts setup on Thunderbird.
Again, this problem only intermittently occurs but it seems to happen on the same couple of email accounts. The junk mail is marked and stays in the inbox but does not automatically move to the junk folder. If I unmark one in the inbox and remark it - it moves automatically. if I restart Thunderbird, all newly received junk moves as expected for a time until the problem intermittently start occurring again.

    One last thing to try:

  • All mail is being downloaded to Junk Folder

Since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, every time I do "Get Mail", all the newly downloaded mail goes into the Junk Mail folder, but none of it is marked junk! I am using the same Junk preferences I used in Leopard. If I uncheck "enable junk mail filtering", the Junk Folder disappears and so does my mail. But when I re-enable junk mail filtering, the mail reappears. I have tried rebuilding both the inbox and the junk folder, no joy. At this point, I have to move all downloaded mail from the junk folder to the inbox, then mark all junk mail as junk. What might be the solution to this problem? Should I delete the Mail preferences file?

Problem solved. Ken Gani on the Tidbits said it sounded like a mail rules problem. When I deleted the Mail-tags rules, which were left over from a demo version which I had installed many months ago on Leopard (Mail 3.6) the problem went away.

  • Junk Mail won't move to Junk folder after training+switching to automatic

After training for months, I switched my preferences to automatic and now my existing junk mail doesn't move to the junk folder.
    Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Same problem here - also using an IMAP account. Junk mail is labeled correctly but does not move automatically to the junk folder even though the option to do that is enabled in preferences.

  • Why did Mail randomly start sending emails to junk folder?

My mail app suddenly started sending important emails to my junk folder. I have been using mail on all of my devices for some time and have never changed any settings since I started. With the exception of some emails here and there, I have never had any issue with it. For whatever reason this week it just started sending almost everything to my junk folder. Does anyone know if theres any way I can fix this? It seems to only be my gmail account that this occurs.

This is not working for me either, as of a week or two ago. Junk mail is marked as junk, but stays in my inbox, regardless of my junk mail settings. I have it set to move junk to the junk folder, but Mail simply refuses to do so. I tried changing the setting, closing preferences, opening prefs and changing it back, but that does not help either.
Sadly this is the least of my problems with Mail in Leopard. I've had nothing but problems with it so far and I'm getting really frustrated. I'm running out of patience and ideas and it may simply be time to wipe out all my mailboxes and preferences, reimport all my old mail and start over from scratch again.

  • Mail sending everything to junk folder

    Hi all,
I have an issue where Mail is sending all incoming mail to the Junk folder including good mail. Normally the good mail stays in my Inbox and the Junk mail is automatically put in the Junk Mail folder. It puts all the mail in the junk folder, but only colors the junk mail and leaves the good mail the normal color. Also, it does not put the Junk mail bag "icon" next to the Junk mail messages anymore. Anybody know what's going on here?

When you click on Mail Choose the Mail Icon and click on it and then Preferences from that Mail Icon and go through the available settings and you will find your problem, It is a setting sending everything to the Junk or Trash.
    Cheers Don

  • Mail not sending Junk to Junk folder

I did a clean install, did not import any settings or files. Had to do this because an Archive and Install left me with many many problems. Bit the bullet and started from scratch. Leopard still has many problems I think, but I am hoping that most issues are fixed soon.
One problem that I have is that junk mail does not go to junk folder. I have selected all the appropriate settings. When mail comes in I select "Junk". Even then the message does not go into the junk folder. I understand that with a new install my mail may have to relearn what is junk, but I would assume that at least when I identify junk that it would go to the junk folder.
    Any ideas?

  • Incoming e-Mail (all gmail) going into "Junk" Folder

Hi...My iPad Air 2 Mail "Inbox" worked fine now e-Mails have stopped going into the "Inbox" & appear in the "Junk" Folder...I have not manually changed any settings...i have removed e-Mail account & reinstalled but still have the problem...Your help would be greatly appreciated to reinstate the "Inbox"...Cheers, CPS

Please post an image of the filter.
re :Such messages never get to my filter unless I do something like "run filters" on the junk window.
So the message is auto moved to Junk before your filters are applied.
If the message is in Junk then your filter will not work because filters only work automatically on new messages in the Inbox.
    Check your filter.
It must say 'Filter before junk classification'.
Also, as in my previous response, you must set up your Junk Controls correctly, so that email addresses in selected address books are set as a whitelist. For this to apply to that particular email address, you must have that email address in a selected address book.
