Mail keeps asking me keychain until I visit mail provider on safari

Hi, for some reason, when I open mail up it asks me for my "keychain" password, in this case my password I use to login to my hotmail. But, for some reason it will not accept the password untill I open up Safari and actually log into my hotmail.
How can I solve this issue? Thanks.

Woohoo! I got it fixed
Apparently the keychain is often corrupted for many people after upgrading to 10.4 to Leopard.
The fix is (in my case) to run the "keychain first aid". There are step-by-step instructions on the following link (they suggest booting up in Safe Mode first... I did not (thats your call)).

  • Why does mac os keep asking for keychain password

why does mac os keep asking for keychain password

I'm getting this same problem. It seems random when it asks for the password, maybe every 3 or 4 days it'll ask when I plug it in at night. I've tried restoring from an older backup, which has not resolved the issue.

  • FileSyncAgent keeps asking for keychain password

FileSyncAgent keeps asking for my keychain password. How do I get this to stop?

For me, it was sufficient to just erase the "com.apple.keychainsync.plist" file, not the keychains.
Furthermore, I following this hint to reset their passwords:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7046031
Finally, I needed to re-enable .Mac sync in all my keychains again via the Settings command in "Keychain Access.app".

  • Safari keeps asking for Keychain Access

Everytime I use Safari after some time it asks for Keychain access. I disabled the autofill forms feature already, but it does not stop asking. Does anybody know how to keep Safari from doing this without disabling the password protection of my keychain?
Honestly said, this erraneous behaviour keeps me from using Safari as Firefox does not make such strange attempts to use Keychain.

I didn't think before reading this discussion to be related, but now I tend to believe it may be. I've recently started using Papers.app and to get access to some publications under institutional subscription I have to configure both Papers.app and Safari to be authenticated connecting to Internet through my institution's proxy. The problem is that now the keychain access manager keeps asking authorization every now and then what really has become a heavy nuisance, not only occurring while a keep Safari open, but also while using any other application which try to connect to the Internet such as iTunes or Fission.app. Before I started using Papers.app I had devoted one browser to download articles nder subscription in order to limit such nuisance to the time I was browsing them. However, using Papers.app I've been forced to configure Safari to that purposes, reproducing the annoying effects every time I open any application which are connecting to the Internet. I posted a message in the Papers.app but nobody has replied so far. I thought of changing the browser used by Papers.app would help, unfortunately, I couldn't find any way to get so. Now that it seems there is a way to prevent the system from asking for keychain access, it may fix the problem. This is the message I posted in Papers' Support Forum. I'd really appreciate any help or suggestion:
Can Papers.app use a different browser other than Safari to get authentication from my institution's proxy?
I am at the University of Barcelona (UB), Spain, we also have an automatic proxy-cache configuration URL (like johnraekwon at the U of Manchester)
    http://www.bib.ub.edu/pac/proxy.pac
Every time I open the browser I've configured to connect through your University proxy, I get a drop down menu to authenticate with and then I proceed to the URL I head to, only now with UB credentials. More or less like johnraekwon has to do.
Unfortunately this aunthentication doesn't last for long, you are often requested to authenticate again and again. This nuisance made me decide to devote a browser different from the default browser to download articles, and it's being working rather satifactorily while I only used that browser to download papers from the Internet.
Now that I tried configuring Papers.app to download those articles which requiring subscription I've found that it only works as long as Safari is configured in the same way, that is, it has to authenticated by the proxy to get access to the Internet. I wouldn't mind using Safari exclusively to browse papers. The problem is that most other applications are also using Safari as default browser and it doesn't seem it can be changed, among them iTunes, which I usually open to download podcasts. Since I've configured Safari to get access through my institution's proxy, it keeps asking me to authenticate, and halting every task in process by doing so.
For most purposes I don't need to get authorized access, so I wish my default browser not being configured in such a painful manner.
I'd like to know whether I can change some of Papers.app options to replace Safari as default browser by, I say, Firefox, therefore limiting those repetitive authentications to just the time I'm browsing papers. It let Safari idle to be configured as a default browser to smoothly work for other purposes such as iTunes.
Thanks for the interest. Any idea will be welcomed.

  • Cloud keeps asking for keychain password !

imac is an early 2008 model, now with max memory(4gb) and now running Yosemite O/S.
The machine keeps asking for the  keychain access password to open Cloud (spelt cloudd this morning !). We put the password in and it is accepted. A few minutes later when opening some other file, can be any, then the password request is repeated. It is the same if the iMac is not used for any period and goes into sleep mode, password wanted on re-use.
I assume that somewhere there is a setting that needs tweaking ? Where and what please ?
Hope this makes sense. Wasn't sure if asking in iMac section was the correct place or if it is a O/S query.
    Cheers and Thanks.

  • Mail Keeps Asking For Keychain Password - Possible Solution

    Hi
I am a Mac newbie and all was going well until I played around with the Keychain settings and then, despite putting everything on Keychain back to how it was, I kept getting requests from Mail to enter my password.
Having tried every other solution offered by the various help sites and web forums (this problem seems quite common), I finally went for the deleting the mail account solution that (fingers crossed) has now worked for over a day, so I am posting it here in case it is useful to someone else:
    -     First I deleted the two keychain password references to Mail that were in the Keychain Access list (POP and SMTP) and made sure Keychain settings       were all back to how they were originally.
    -     Then I archived all my mail and mail folders - was easy to do and then reload again later.
    -     Then I deleted my email account; rebooted; went back into mail and went through the process of setting up my account again.
    -     Reloaded my mail messages and folders and tidied things up to how they were.
    -     Let keychain set up the mail passwords again by sending and receiving a test message to myself.
Hey presto!  Everything now appears back to how it was, without those annoying requests for passwords for Mail.
I am pretty sure this problem arose due to me changing the keychain settings, even though I put everything back to how it was (or at least I think I did!) it's almost as though there is a bug that makes Mail think the settings have not been changed back to "normal" again.
Hope this help's someone (took me about half a day to fix this as all sorts of solutions are offered by the help sites and forums, but none fixed the problem until I went through the procedure above).

    Still, that was quite funny....!
Erm, I'm still having this problem along with several others that have gone unanswered on here about why Mac Mail decides to keep all my trash, junk, sent, but clears out the INBOX every 5 or 7 days. No server problems, No settings changed... For a computer I bought to make my life easier, its sure making me work exceedingly hard for it. I'm this close to going back to Windows. DON'T LET ME DO IT!!!!!!!!! Helllllp!!!!

  • Keeps asking for keychain password when i open programs

i open safari, it asks for a password. I open almost anything and it asks for a keychain password, and i put the password i use to login to my username and it says it is wrong. I want this off, i dont want this coming up, so how do i go along doing this, especially without the password?

I'm not entirely sure this will work if your keychain is already locked, but try this:
    * Log in as the user who is having the issues
    * Open up System Preferences -> Accounts
    * Make sure the user under "My Account" is highlighted
    * Enter a new Password (you'll have to enter your currenty password first).
Note: this does not have to be a different password, you can use the exact same password you are using now, but you must re-enter it.
    * Re-enter your password in the Verify field.
    * Click on the Show All Button or any other button to get System Preferences to save your changes.
At this point a pop-up menu should show up telling you your keychain password has been reset. You may have to log out and back in again, but you shouldn't be getting the keychain pop errors any more.
Alternatively if you don't have anything important in your keychain you can always delete your keychain and it's preferences, of course then you'll lose all the information that's stored there.
    HTH.

  • Safari keeps asking for keychain password

everytime i open Safari it asks me for the keychain password and when i enter it it tells me it is wrong, so i click cancel and it goes away.
    any ideas?

I had similar problems but with me it was the AirPort keychain.
Here's the advice I followed from (16.1.1.1) was in this thread, courtesy of Jim R:
    Hi all,
The trick is to delete the keychain item in the system keychain for the resource that's giving you the trouble, e.g. Airport network password.
    1. Open the Keychain program
    2. Select System keychain.
    3. Select the keychain item you want to delete, and choose Delete from the Edit menu (you won't need to enter a password).
    4. Next time you enter the password to access the network and save to keychain, the item will be recreated.
    Jim R
    (His post is no. 16.1.1.1)
You should find Keychain app in your Utilities folder.
    Hope it works.

  • Mail keychain keeps asking for password

Mail keeps asking for a keychain password on boot up...it never did that before.  Also, after idle for a period I'm also prompted for a keychain password for "PubSubAgent" then after entering it the whole OS locks up and I have to hardboot to get back in.  I've reset the keychain(s), but have the same problem.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

I had tried that and it did find/repair one problem.  It now seems like the OS wants the password for other processes such as mobilesyncclient and about a half dozen others.  The two common triggers are; 1) we recently started using MobileMe, and 2) the password requests seem to happen after the iMac comes out of sleep mode. I just disabled MobileMe in sys preferences.  If this resolves it then I'll at least have a more narrowed problem to focus on since I want to use MobileMe.  BTW - Apple support recommends migrating to Lion...imagine that -:(

  • ICal, Addressbook, Mail Keep asking to Unlock Keychain

Several weeks ago I had to send my Macbook in for repair. When I go it back several of my programs on my computer keep asking for me to enter my keychain password when I start them.
iCal, addressbook, Mail each have a popup window that says
    Unlock Keychain
    please enter your password.
I went to the keychain manager and did not see these programs in the list, so I am not sure how to solve this problem so I do not have to enter the password all the time.

    Try running Keychain First Aid...
    Applications>Utilities>Keychain Access>Keychain First Aid
Hopefully doing this will solve your Keychain problems.

  • Mac OS X 10.7.4 Mail keeps asking my password?

I'm having a hard time with this.  My Yahoo! mail keeps asking for my password when I know I type it in correctly.  I check the box where it says "Remember my password in keychain".  Here is what I have done to solve it:
Reset / repair keychain in keychain preferences.
    Reinstall Mac OS X Lion
Reformatted my SSD and put Lion on again.
Tried deleting the com.apple.mail.plist in ~/Library/Preferences
To no avail, it still keeps asking for my password.  Keychain must have become corrupted as far as my Yahoo! mail is concerned.
Here is the specs on my computer:  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4, 120 GB Intel SSD in Bay 1 (OS HD) and 500 GB WD Scorpio Blue (Data HDD) + 8 GB RAM.  I have my account linked up to my 500 GB WD Data HDD and not my SSD.  I am sure it has something to do with that, I am just not sure how to fix it.
If anyone can give me any suggestions, that would be great.

I have a friend with a ymail account with similar problem on Lion.  So I created a new ymail account for myself, and set about testing it in Snow Leopard.  It is not working very long until it goes into the PW prompt business.
From what I can read, it is simply that yahoo has made a poor implementation of IMAP, Lion and Snow Leopard default to set the account up as IMAP (and that is the protocol my friend and most people prefer), and something about the frequent checking by Mail to tell Yahoo it is there -- are you? is triggering a loss of the password.  I suspect it is at that point a deliberate action because the server has concluded, erroneously, that something is suspicious.
Btw, my friend's iPad and iPhone get along just fine with the server, but I did not add to my iOS devices so as to not introduce any conflict cause.
It is not a Mail problem, but one of Yahoo's making.  Some people have not been able to get them to admit they offer IMAP, btw.  I can test it in Lion anytime, but have not seen reason to do that considering what is happening in Snow Leopard.

  • Since i downloaded mavericks  my computer keeps asking for l? ocal items keychain password. What is that

Since I downloaded Mavericks my computer keeps asking forLOCAL ITEMS KEYCHAIN PASSWORD. What is that? It wont allow access to my computer without it!!

My guess is all the issues are probably related and fall back to malware.
AVG is probably correct in identifying malware. So I suggest you try some cleaning tools other than Emsisoft .
    ones I use (all of them one after the other until I find one that can cope) are;
    Roguekiller http://www.adlice.com/softwares/roguekiller/
    Malwarebytes anti malware Free http://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/var2/confirm/
    ESET online scanner http://www.eset.com/int/home/products/online-scanner/
So first create a clean boot in Windows using Microsoft's instructions https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135?wa=wsignin1.0 and then run the anti malware applications.
My outside looking in guess is that malware has set itself up as an internet proxy and is is downloading copies of itself and other malware, blocking some mail port as times as downloading more malware is more important, and probably breaking your tivo as well..
Try the malware programs first. If that does not work I will try and talk you through some logging to see what is happening.

  • Mail keeps asking for password, over and over and over again. How to fix?

How do I stop this behavior of Mail?
I tried disableing my account and resetting it up, but it won't let me do that either. I use Mac OS 10.6.8.

OK. When you say that Mail doesn’t save the password, are you basing this solely on the fact that Mail keeps asking for it? Or is there something else that makes you believe Mail doesn’t save the password?
Open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, choose Keychain First Aid from the application menu, and proceed to repair the keychain. If that doesn’t work, try removing the password entry from the keychain and let Mail create it again the next time it asks for it.
