Mail keeps marking as junk mail in Mavericks

Hello all,
I'm having an ongoing issue with my Mail app in Mavericks 10.9.1 in that it keeps sending an incoming email from a particular sender to my Trash box even though I have it marked as not Junk mail and I've added the senders email address to my Contacts. It even shows up in Junk mail still marked as not Junk mail? Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it? Thanks.

Having the same issue here. Some of my emails are going to the junk mail folder without being marked as junk. I tried resetting the junk filter and that did not help. In fact, I recently upgraded to a new iMac and purposefully did not use the migration assistant, but the problem has followed me to the new computer.
It seems to be linked to specific email addresses. Mint.com, YouTube, Twitter, and a few other corporate accounts all have 100% of their emails go to my junk folder without being marked as junk. This is despite the fact that my junk filter in mail is currently set on training mode and shouldn't be sending anything to the Junk folder.
Has anyone found a solution to this yet?

    please let me know
    many thanks

Can't you turn it off completely?
I ave not much experience with spam/junk handling in Mail. I am not sure whether marking a mail as spam/junk it will be remembered always. There are third party spamfilters that you can install. I do not use them.

  • Mail going to junk folder is not marked as junk

I have an automated email that I get occasionally. Without exception it ends up in the junk folder. However, even sitting in the junk folder, the message itself is not marked as junk.
I've turned off all rules, and they still go to the junk folder. Any ideas?
may be relevant: the email address is a google business apps email address.

There are quite a few threads discussing this.
Google is likely moving the items into it's spam folder which shows up as "Junk" in Mail.
Since Mail did not put them there, it doesn't mark them as Junk as it has no idea why they were put there.
As Gmail is IMAP-ish, your local copy matches what is on the server. Since it is in Spam on the server, it shows up in Junk in Mail.

  • Junk mail filter in yosemite doesn't work. i can't find the 'mark as junk' selection or 'remove from previous recipients' which would help to filter out spam.

junk mail filter in yosemite doesn't work. from the flags, i can't find the 'mark as junk' selection. Formerly clicking on the email address in question would allow one to 'remove from previous recipients' which would help to filter out spam. I've adjusted all the settings under mail preferences, but that is not helping.

    Hello Diane162,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to be able to filter some of the junk mail that you are receiving in Mail. The attached article has a lot of great information on junk mail filtering, including how to mark as junk and adjust the junk filter.

  • Has anyone solved the "all mail marked as junk" problem?

Mail marks almost all incoming mail and all sent mail as junk. I've found some inconclusive posts on this but no solution. Can anyone explain (or, better) fix this problem?

    Hi
have you read this thread? http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=292113&tstart=100
esp about disabling junk filter & quitting mail.
You're using junk filter in automatic mode?
anyhow - blank field spam does seem to figure in breaking mail's junk filtering. Are you able to create a rule using the applescript linked to in my previous post?. If so - create one & put it at the top of the rule list to weed out any blank subject mail.
    Still a problem?
quit & restart mail - make sure junk filtering is enabled
    delete/empty the junk folder.
Find the mail in your inbox that's marked as junk & move it to the junk folder ( select them all & drag , or messages-move from the menu )
In the junk box, pick one of the moved messages & click 'not junk' - does it get moved back to the inbox? is it still marked as junk (assuming it did move back...)
If clicking 'not junk' isn't behaving - select all the messages & move/drag them back to the inbox. Are they still marked as junk? (hopefully not)
Repeat above with the 'sent' mailbox.
Disable junk filtering in mail prefs
quit mail & open it again
    re-enable junk filtering
    Any better?.....
If you're still having problems - make a note of all your rules ( you 'might' have to re-enter them)
    Quit mail
find the folder ~/library/Mail & drag a copy of the folder to the desktop (mouse + Alt) . Locate the file com.apple.mail.plist in ~/library/preferences/ & drag a copy of that to the desktop too.
These copies enable you to restore your mail to exactly as it is now - in case anything went wrong in the next stage. NOT that I expect it to, having tried all these things on my own mail installation......
Make sure mail is not running.
go into the original ~/library/Mail/ folder & trash these two files - LSMMap2 and MessageRules.plist
start Mail , go to prefs & make sure that junk filter is enabled for your account(s)
Send a message & see if it's marked as junk.
If you had a lot of rules & don't want to re-enter them manually - you can try quitting mail, replacing the MessageRules.plist file in the real Mail folder with the one from the copy made earlier & re-starting Mail.
If sent/junk is fixed - remember it may break again with a blank field email.
Sorry to write so much - but remember, I don't have the problem- so I can't test to see exactly what might fix it & just tell you the good bits.

  • It would be very nice if Thunderbird would automatically remember e-mail that I mark as junk mail.

I get so many junk e-mails. Often, T-bird sees most of them as junk and puts them in the junk folder. However, there are many that it does not catch, so I have to create message filters.
Also, T-bird doesn't always remember e-mails that it marked as junk at one time, and leaves them in my inbox; or, it marks e-mails that are not junk as junk, and doesn't remember that I mark these as not junk - all of this makes going through my e-mails a very time-consuming part of my day.
It would make my life so much easier if T-bird would remember e-mails that I mark either as junk or not junk, and handle them accordingly, without the need for me to add message filters constantly.
Maybe it would be easier if T-bird provided a "white list" function which the user could include *only* e-mails that are "approved."
Please feel free to contact me about this issue.
    Thanks!

i have had this problem for the last few weeks, and the junk is becoming more and more....i like tb and have used it for many years, but i may have to go to my mac mail program.....ughhh
i will try the retraining suggestion and see what happens thanks

  • All outgoing mail marked as Junk.

My junk mail has gone crazy ever since I got my Intel iMac seven weeks ago. I tried the training feature, but it kept marking mail as junk after I'd changed it to not junk over and over and over again. Still does. It also marked every outgoing mail as junk mail.
After five weeks with no improvement, I switched the setting to Automatic, and I immediately got 932 emails in my new Junk Mail box, many of which I'd never seen before. Two weeks later, Mail is still sending previously marked not junk mail to my junk mail box and marking almost every email that I send as junk. It's supposed to exempt mail in which the sender is in my address book or in my previous recipients or is addressed to my full name, but it totally ignores that.
At the same time I got my Intel iMac, I set up my G4 precisely the same including Tiger and all sofware. Ever since I've had precisely the same problems with Mail on my G4.
How can I get the junk mail feature to work?
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Intel iMac and G4.

Thanks for your help, Allan. I downloaded Windows Media Player 9 on my G4 at home last night, and it solved that problem.
I knew about Flip4Mac, but I was hoping the vast collective wisdom of this group might have found something that works now on Intel iMacs. I’ve downloaded Parallels, but I haven't been able to download Windows Media Player in that yet. My issue du jour is that I can’t type anything in any browser window and their tech support isn’t responding to my emails.
When Parallels works though, it’s vastly superior to Virtual PC. I’m hoping the final version will have ironed out the Beta problems.
    Thanks again.

  • Why are many of my sent messages in Mail 2.1.3 getting marked as Junk?

I have both sent messages (about 75% of them) being automatically marked as junk mail, and I also have many email messages coming into my inbox that are being marked as junk (even if their names/ email addresses are in my address book).
    Any help on this? Thanks!

What kind of account is this, POP or IMAP?
    Is the MobileMe perchance?

  • Mail in Mavericks is a disaster for me.  Mail opens VERY slowly and cannot be deleted. I can move copies of messages to On My Mac but the original stays in the In Box. Scrolling works then it doesn't then it does. I tried every advice here; nothing helps.

I've read and tried all the solutions proffered to others about Mail in Mavericks and scrolling issues as well.  They either are not applicable (hard drive seems fine; is less than half full; permissions have been repaired; Disk Utility finds no hard drive issues) or don't work (rebuilding, removing envelope files and re-importing, removing various preference files).
I have about 200,000 emails in four In Boxes.  Prior to Mavericks this was not a problem.  I have tried to remove them in case that helps but when I move them to a new folder in "On My Mac" the new folder is (very slowly) created but the original messages stay in the In Box as well.  I went through one box and deleted over 52,000 messages -- or so I thought.  When I closed mail later, I got a message saying the messages could not be moved to trash.  They are in the In Box now.
Maybe the problem is not Mavericks, but it started when I upgraded, and except for scrolling, which has been problematic elsewhere as well but no where more than in Mail, everything but Mail seems to be working ok.
Are other people having problems to this extent?  I can wait a little while for a fix but I get over 2,000 emails a day (yes, a lot of spam) and I don't think I can go on in perpetuity without the ability to delete messages.  I've used Apple Mail since its inception and would prefer to keep it but may be forced out.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
While logged in as Guest, launch Mail and set up one of your IMAP accounts. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • I cannot delete mail in Mavericks

    Hello Apple (eees).
I cannot delete any mail in Mavericks!
If for instance I select the trash folder, select all and click delete the items disappear.
If I then click on the inbox (or any other mail folder) then click back on trash all the deleted messages have returned from the grave (maybe something to do with Halloween).
In addition the 'all mail' folder tells me I have over 2000 messages, I have less than 100!
If I do a rebuild the progress meter tells me it is receiving several thousand emails, none of which ever arrive
I am using brand new latest top spec MacBook Pro, mail service is virginmedia imap.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards to all,
    Mark (UK)

iCloud email should automatically resume once you have sufficient storage again.  I haven't seen any documentation on whether or not there's a delay before service resume though.  If you want to get more information you would have to contact Apple support: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/.

  • Mail in Mavericks. Cannot email web page.

"Safari:File:Share:Email this Page" does not work in Mavericks.
It opens a new mail message ok, but when I send it to myself, all images come up blank in Mail.
Even if I forward a html email to myself from another computer (or from Thunderbird on this MacBook Pro) the same thing happens. The message opens ok, but when I click on "forward" in Mail, images are lost.
If I open the same message in Thunderbird, all works as expected. Images show, and when I hit "forward" they also show and when I open these emails they work fine. Until I try to forward them from Mail when I lose all the image links.
I have been using Mail to send a regular newsletter for years and I depend on it. The procedure works perfectly in Snow Leopard, etc. Please test with these examples:
    http://artistvision.org --     does not work
http://google. com    --     does not work
    http://apple.com       --      works
Can somebody figure out whyand how http://apple.com keeps it links and let me know?

    I found the answer.
Mail programs do not read <DOCTYPE>, nor <head> information.
    Start simply with:
    <html>
    <body>
<table> etc and then code in place
    </body>
    </html>
Paste the code into Thunderbird and send to yourself.
Or open in Safari: click "share" and "email this page". Just like the good old days!
This works, even in Mail in Mavericks. You can now forward from Mail.
See and test my example here: http://artistvision.org/2014-01-demo.html
    I got the idea here:

  • Unstable Mail post Mavericks upgrade:

After upgrade to Mavericks (v10.9.1) Mail (v7.1) on my iMac has become unstable, freezing at the drop of a hat, requiring frequent forced quit to wrestle back control. Tried to instal the available Mail Update for Mavericks, promising increased stability, in an attempt to solve the problem but the installer says all my storage options, including the SSD Macintosh HD 'do not meet the requirements for this update'.
Is this a known problem between Mail and Mavericks and does anyone have an idea how to fix?
    thanks

Has anybody figured this out? I too really really regret "upgrading" to Mavericks.  My most used programs are all fubar'd: Mail, Numbers, Pages
At least it seems you can access your email.  Mine often freezes causes a force quit (even that doesn't always work) and then when I click on the mail icon, no window appears, only the tiny little (tool?) bar at the top.  I am still looking for my boxes, especially inbox and compose box.  Aarrgh!

I have the same situation as you - sending out pdfs of designed pages and wanting to overwrite them continually. It used to happen on an older version of Mail, then it disappeared and now it's back with the latest version.
It's more than annoying, it's downright driving me nuts. In the last hour I had to quit Mail seven times.
