Mail keeps opening itself automatically

OK... this is strange... on one of our machines Mail keeps auto-launching... we do not have auto-launch at startup checked. But it keeps starting up. I can quit out of the program, and 10 seconds later it reopens. No matter how many times we quit the program it keeps reopening seconds later.

I'm having the same exact problem. It launches and starts checking for mail. Most of the time it doesn't find any. So, it's not like some incoming message is triggering it to launch. It'll happen when I am watching a DVD, or browsing the web. It'll even happen when I turn Airport off and am not connected to any network.

  • ITunes keeps opening itself

I recently updated my software and I also recently started using a Shuffle with my iMac - I'm not sure which is causing the problem.
I have iTunes 6.0.2, and it keeps opening itself automatically. Not when I start up my computer, but if I have iTunes open and then quit the application, it will just open itself right back up approximately 1-2 minutes later. It doesn't do anything - doesn't access the Music Store or start playing music - it just opens itself. So annoying!
Does anyone know how to make it stop doing this? Is it possible I have it set to automatically open for some reason?
    Thanks!

    Coupla dumb questions:
Are you actually "quitting" iTunes by going to the iTunes Menu > Quit iTunes or by the keyboard (Command+Q)?
Or are you just clicking on the red button at the top of the program window, which actually does not quit the program. (The program is still open if you see a small rectangle symbol under the icon in the dock.)
Also check your System Preferences > CDs & DVDs and make sure you don't have iTunes set to open when you insert a blank disc, dvd or picture CD.

  • Itunes 11 keeps opening itself

Itunes keeps opening itself while I'm working in an order program.
    This is very annoying.
I checked the settings but I can't find a solution.
    Can anyone help ?

This issue often occurs if you have an iDevice Syncing or Charging using your Mac.You probably have iTunes set to open automatically right after an iPod/iPhone/iPad is plugged in.If you have an iDevice plugged in,go to it's info screen and see if it's set to start iTunes automatically when it's plugged in.Also, see if the application is set to run on start-up.I hope this helps.

  • ITuns keeps opening itself

    Hi guys!
my problem is just as the subject says!
    Itunes keeps opening itself
I tried everything but can't get around this. NOTE: didn't have ituneshelpper to open at login in the first place.
First i tried deleting itunes preference files - didn't work
Tried removing every app i could think of that could be interfering with iTunes - didn't work
Tried to trash ituneshelpper app from itunes package contents - nothing changed
At this time i think i had itunes 10.7 installed for a while i.e. i think it wasn't since upgrading that this problem began
then i tried uninstalling iTunes and do a fresh install - kept opening itself at login and periodically if i closed it
tired removing itunes preference files again to no success
tried to remove itunes helper at this time because it appeared at login items - no luck! even tough i removed it from login items several times it kept appearing there and even at exhaust (a login items app) all this after trashed the itunesHelper from itunes package contents again!!
At this time decided to re-install Lion again form HD recovery drive!
After this iTunes stopped opening at login only to find that i had to install the latest version (10.7) because the library was created by a newer version and as such it wouldn't open!!
after updating iTunes it started all over again!!!
And now for a little side problem - might mouse center and side buttons stopped working as well as secondary button!!! can't get around that also!!!
    Help, please!!!
    i'm running lion 10.7.5
Sorry fort the long post and thanks!!!

    Hi,
I bought a new core i5 macbook pro a couple of days ago and started getting this problem about 2 hours ago and didn't know what was happening. Everything was disabled, including taking the battery from the remote out, yet itunes was still starting up.
I just found something but not sure if it's the cause of the problem. My audio cable was not connected properly and when i moved it, itunes would start up again, and kept moving it and kept starting up, and while open, i would move it again and it would play songs. I disconnected it and plugged it back in, tried moving it and it would not start itunes. I think this has to do with the port supporting the apple earphones with remote on them. Lets hope this fixes it and if so, hope it helps others.

  • ITunes keeps opening itself when I connect to my Bluetooth speaker

Every time I connect my computer to my Bluetooth speaker, iTunes automatically opens itself. I can't figure out what causes this, but it's annoying and I would like for it to stop. Does anyone know what causes this? Thanks in advance

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1666895  but it might work to just disable iTunesHelper.  If you do that you may have to start iTunes whever you want to sync a device instead of it autostarting.

  • Mail keeps relaunching itself after quit.

I have this issue with Apple Mail. It launches itself fairly quickly after I log in (no, it is NOT set to do that, Open at Login is not checked) and if I quit the app, it almost immediately relaunches itself again, and again, and again. It is, as expected, independent of the "check mail" setting, and does this even when that is set to Manual. Which I would expect, as I have never seen the check mail option launch the app.
Anyone have a clue as to what this might be? If I did not know better, I would think that someone put a 1 second cron job in to launch mail as a joke (does not appear to the case), but that is how it acts, relaunches right after quitting.
Running 10.5.6 on a new Macbook, 2 GB memoy
Any suggesitons on where to look would really be appreciated.
    -Owen-

Well, of course, I have been chasing this for months, and JUST today, I decide to post the question here, and just today, I discovered the answer myself. Painstakingly I removed programs one at a time and re-logged in.
I discovered that when I removed the Soonr backup software "Soonr Desktop Agent" the problem went away. This agent scans your computer for things that need to be backed up, it has an option to also backup mail and address book data as well. Seems they feel they need to launch mail to do that, and that they need to launch it all the time for some reason. When I turned off the agent, the problem went away.
Turning the agent back on, I unchecked the "Enable retrieval of content from Mail and Address Book" and mail stopped launching itself immediately but backup seems to run, but perhaps not backing up mail now. Oh well.
I will report that as a bug to Soonr, but strange that it feels it needs to launch Mail to get data but not the address book.
Sorry all, problem solved by myself. Left here for reference.

  • Mail keeps opening in the background when accessing contact details

    I'm using iPhone 3G
I have an App called FreeMemory (from the AppStore) than can view all running apps in the background.
What I'll do is check FreeMemory and I can see that Mail is NOT running.
Then I go ahead and open Contacts and tap on a particular contact name (I noticed that it takes a while to open the details of a particular contact).
After that I close Contacts and go back to FreeMemory. Now I see Mail running in the background.
(but when I only open Contacts and scroll through the list and I dont tap a contact name, it WONT open the Mail app).
I can conclude that accessing a contact detail also opens Mail app which eats RAM since im using only iPhone 3G which has small RAM.
*PLEASE note that all my mail accounts are already INACTIVE/DISABLED and my Fetch options are OFF and set to Manual. Also, I DONT have any email adress info of my contacts stored in their names.
Any idea how I can prevent Mail from opening when I access contact details??
    thanks!

I have connected the Ipad Air ONCE only. Yet for the past 3 days itunes has randomly opened itself up, it's doing it when no one is home, when we're asleep etc.
Nothing is running that should open it, no widgets, no media players NOTHING absolutely nothing!!!!
I have searched the community and found a heap of ideas on what might be triggering it and tried everything on there that i can and nothing helps.........
Please any ideas will be fantastic its driving me nutty!!!!!!!!!

screenshots below of my itunes preferences:

This basically reset my driver and now everything works fine with getting it to show up in itunes, however is still will not allow me to use my personal hotspot. Ive noticed when i turn on personal hotspot on my phone i see this:
so obviously we are missing a driver or something that enables the personal hotspot to function correctly. I just can't seem to figure out where that is located.
    UPDATE***
i went to the folder that was by the previous driver i updated
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\NetDrivers
    i selected netaapl64.inf
and now Personal Hotspot works and it shows up in device manager like this:
hopefully this helps whoever else is having this issue

  • ITunes keeps opening itself up, how do I stop it?!

Okay all I've become more than irritated by iTunes lately. Every time I go to click the x in the upper right hand corner, or even go "File" then "Exit" every thirty seconds or so after I close out iTunes it unbeknown to me opens itself back up. I've gone through services.msc to disable anything that could cause it to open itself back up. I've even checked everything in iTunes so I have to manually open it up.
However as I said before, every bloody time I close iTunes 30 seconds later it opens itself back up for no reason at all. In order to fully close it I have to use cntrl, alt, delete and shut it down fully that way. What else can be done to stop this? This is really driving me crazy.
Other than this little thing I have no problems. Oh and I have an iPod Classic 120GB and Windows XP.

So you put up with IDVD opening at start up even though you may not even need it to?
I just fixed this on my own. Somehow IDVD had gotten included in my start up preferences under log in options. Removed it. Problem solved.
    Thx.

  • ITunes keeps opening itself up

Hi, can somebody please tell me how to disable iTunes from continuously opening itself up for no paticular reason? I'm not sure why it started doing that but now every 2 minutes or so iTunes will just start itself up and it's getting incredibly annoying.
    help please!!

Go to System Preferences/Hardware CDs and DVDs and check if iTunes is set to open whenever you insert a disk of any kind (although music CDs is a natural choice, obviously)
Also, check your Login Items in System Preferences/Accounts for any iTunes related stuff
A likely cause can be found by making note of what you are doing when iTunes launches ... if you are working with media files of any kind -but potentially any kind of file - check to see what application is being opened by double-clicking that file (use Get Info).

  • Blend will not stay closed, keeps opening itself

I don't use BB Blend at all, and in device manager I close it than hours later i see that it has opened itself up again and I have to close it so it does not suck up resources. Why is it that it opens itself and is there a way to delete it?

    ah. Gotcha.
Can't be deleted other than by something like Sachesi or DDPB to remove the bar file.

  • I installed Microsoft office and it keeps opening up automatically upon log in

Does anyone know why Microsoft word and excell would keep opening up when I turn my computer on?

Two places to check, first is click each apps icon on the Dock and hold it down, choose choose Options and see if there is a check mark, if there is select it and this will turn it off. In other words you do not want that checked.
The next place to check is System Preferences - Users & Groups - Login Items and if the apps are listed then highlight them and click the - symbol below to remove them.
Finally I don't think you carefully read your owners manual, on page 16 it says:
    Putting Your iMac to Sleep
If you‘ll be away from your iMac for less than a few days, put it to sleep. When youriMac is in sleep, its screen is dark. You can quickly wake your iMac and bypass thestartup process.

  • Firefox keeps opening itself on it's own after PC startup

Two days ago I encountered this problem. Each time my PC would start, FireFox would open itself on it's own and display the home page. I tried scanning the system with Avast! Antivirus and MalwareBytes AntiMalware, but nothing has been found. Could it be that some of the add-ons are forcing Firefox to do so, or do I have some sort of malware that my AV programs can't find?

I looked under both locations, and found nothing. When I typed in msconfig in Start>Run..., I checked System Configuration Utility, and found one process that puzzled me... http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/3281/wuththehell.jpg
I unchecked it and closed the window after saving, but didnt restart. Later on I decided to take a look at it again, and when I opened the window, the process was gone.

  • ITunes 7 Keeps Opening itself without my launching it!

OK, the wierdest thing keeps happening now, I close iTunes, it closes, then, a few minutes later it re-launches it self!
I'm rather paranoid about my music and my data so once a week I do a full backup to an extrnal hard drive of my documents, my music and my email. When I run the backup I make sure iTunes is closed as well as my mail client.
Today I closed iTunes as usual, started my backup and next minute iTunes was back! I closed it again, a few minutes later, back again. And so it has been going for about 15 minutes now. Does iTunes somehow sense that some program is accessing it's library and spring to life to protect itself or will I now never be able to turn off iTunes?
Anyone else having this most perplexing problem?
    Cheers,
    Bart.

Thought I would add into this. My iTunes just started opening by itself. It was open when I came in this morning, then after closing I notiv=ced every time I came back it was open again.
