Mail keeps rejecting my password - no email access for 4 days :-(0

I have not been able to receive or send any mails from my mac or ipod touch. When I get onto the icloud. site I can see that my mails are coming through so it seems to be a port/server problem with mail settings.
Have tried every trick posted online - deleted old account and set it up again, changed port settings to 993 and reconfigured for imap.
Nothing is working.
Is anyone else having these problems? It's driving me bonkers.

Thanks for your input Csound but it's still not working ... argh!
I have changed password for extra strength and also done all the settings you mentioned. Still showing up as a greyed-out account in my mail program that can't go online.
This is how I have the account prefences set up:
And this is the advanced setting box:
Any other ideas?

I am an AOL user and am entering it correctly but it keeps rejecting  I can access my acct via aol no problem
Okay now it's effecting my Iphone and Ipad accts.
    Please advise?

So far as I can tell this is a server overload problem and Apple is working to fix things. I have had the same thing all morning and just now it cleared up, though not with AOL, but my iCloud mail. I was, of course, typing in the correct password, so the error message one keeps getting is very misleading, as the rejection has nothing to do with the PW. I think if we are all patient things will straighten out through the day. My mail is okay as of noon, crossing my fingers, but at least it is nothing I did wrong.

  • Mail keeps rejecting my password.

I know that this has been asked like every single day. But i've spent all day trying to find a solution and can not find a single one.
For some stupid reason Mail on my mac keeps rejecting my password. Like to the point where i've deleted the account and it won't even let me connect enough to readd it. I've already wiped out my mac, reinstalled the software, ran disk utilitie, repaired persmissions, reparied disk, restarted in boot, ran mail doctor.. you name it. Nothing is working. I've had my mac for a little over 2 years, and my iphone 4 the almost the same amount. I have never had a problem until recently. I have a yahoo (ymail) account on both and just started experiencing problems on both of them. (Iphone4, I am not getting the emails pushed through.. even i turn off my phone/turn it back on i get like 20). I've even changed my password through the internet browser and i'll think its working until i Quit Mail and reopen and am asked for my password AGAIN! Please help!!
I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8, Snow Leopard.
Ps: I've already deleted the keychains and all of that, as i said i've completely wiped out the harddrive and am still having issues with it.

I saw someone on here said to log in to email via the yahoo.com website. So I just logged in with the email address that kept rejecting the password on mac mail, even tho it is an att email address. Now mac mail has stopped rejecting my password.  Why is this? I don't know what IMAP is but I am curious about this connection.

  • Mac mail keeps "rejecting" my password

I am repeatedly receiving a pop-up window that says Mail has rejected my sbc global password. I'll enter the password, submit and the window pops up again. Sometimes 3 or 4 times in a row. Obviously, I'm not receiving emails while this is happening ...
    Anyone else experiencing this?

This is often an indication not that there is anything wrong with you password, but that your ISP's password server or POP3 mail server is not responding to the query for mail by your client. It is a problem on the server side—not the client side—of the process, and there is little you can do about it other than…
    • notifying your likely non-responsive ISP, or
    • reducing the frequency with which your client queries for mail.
You can increase the interval from [for example] every minute, to 15 or more minutes, which will decrease the frequency. You do this in the General pane of the Mail Preferences dialog. You choices to Check for new mail: are…
    • every minute
    • every 5 minutes
    • every 15 minutes
    • every 30 minutes
    • every hour
Just imagine how busy those servers would be if every user checked for new mail every minute they were connected!

  • What do I do if Mail keeps rejecting my password and I cannot find it anywhere?

I just bought a new Mac mini Lion OS. Everything was going well until I tried to set up my mail account. Even on my old Mac I was getting continual messages to enter my password and no password I tried was accepted. This was going on for the past month. Every time I tried to use Mail I was asked for my keychain password and nothing I tried would work. Then, two days ago I was setting up my new Mac mini and the same thing is now occurring. I cannot send or receive mail. I have tried a bunch of different things such as starting a new account on yahoo! mail, deleting my accounts. I don't have anything of value yet on my new Mac so I would be happy to start the entire installation process over again if that is needed. My question is: how to I get my email to work on this machine? Thanks.

Did you happen to install Cydia or what they refer to as jailbreaker recently?

  • HT204187 Email account does not work on the Mac but works on my iPad and iPhone. The account information was added on the Mac. I keeps rejecting my password.

I have seral email accounts on my Mac. One does not work on the Mac but works on my iPad and iPhone. The account information was added on the Mac. I keeps rejecting my password.

You don't input the information in manually for iCloud mail. It is automatically set up for you when you sign into iCloud via System Preferences and choose the Mail checkbox. Sign out of iCloud or deselect Mail in iCloud preferences. Open Mail's preferences and choose accounts tab. If iCloud account still exists in the list, delete it. Sign back into iCloud or check the box for mail. The account will be auto created for you.

  • I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account. Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my account every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail. I cannot edit the outgoing server; how can I send emails?

I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account (3 email addresses). Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my accounts every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail (the message says that the outgoing server was rejected. I cannot edit the outgoing server, and the keychain will not save my passwords (the ports are valid). How can I change the outgoing server to send emails, and how can I avoid having Mail request my passwords every 2 minutes? Verizon, as usual, will not provide support to iMacs.

Is there an email saved in your drafts or outbox folder?  I suspect that Mail is continually trying to send it, and each time Google is rejecting the email message.
You can open the message and then delete it from your Outbox folder.  Then try removing all @gmail email addresses from it and seeing whether you can send to the other folks.  I suspect that will work.
With email, if an SMTP server *can* verify email addresses, sometimes it will and it will refuse to send messages.  If a message has to be relayed across servers, no verification is done, and you'll get a bounce if an email address is bad.

  • You keep rejecting my password, sorry i give up if I cannot download

I have spent over an hour and you keep rejecting my password. I give up, I have spent too much time although I want to download, I dont need the frustration.

There should not be any requirement for a password for downloading a trial version of an application.  If you provide details of your experience it might be possible to indicate a solution.  One that comes to mind is to use a different browser if the one you are using is presenting a requirement for a password... although that sounds like a Mac issue, not an Adobe issue.

  • My email keeps rejecting my password. How do I reset it?

My email keeps asking for my password and rejects it each time. I know it is case sensitive. I was fairly sure I have the correct password. Can I reset it and if so how? I can't receive email now. I have a work e mail that I do receive. [email protected] Thanks

    Hello,
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Window Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

  • Please Help...Mail.app keeps rejecting my password

    Hi,
It has been happening for a few hours and I don't know how to solve thnis problem.
It never happened before. I put the correct password, and still I get the pop up window saying " The mobileme IMAP server "imap.mail.me.com" rejected the password for user ....."
I can access my email via browser on the icloud site, but I need to fix the mail.app
Did the configurations for the smtp server changed or something?
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

I think the outgoing is smtp.mail.me.com, use default ports 25,465,587, use SSL,
user name is the name without the @me.com, and a blank area for password right now.
In the account > advanced tab> I see Port 993, and Use SSL is checked and it has authentication by password. And the use IDLE command is also checked.
I wonder if that is becaues I'm using snow leopard but I have deleted the keychain thng many times, it won't fix the problem.
I tried to get email again and it gives me an alert that says " there may be a problemw ithe mail sever network. verify the settings for account etc,
the server returned the error: the attempt to read data from the server "imap.mail.me.com"failed.  So this is what I'm getting now. That's a different message.
I don't know what's wrong with my computer.

  • Mac mail keeps rejecting my yahoo password

This problem has happened to me twice now.
I have my yahoo email account set up in my mac Mail. Recently I keep getting this message saying that Yahoo.ca IMAP server "imap.mail.yahoo.com" rejected the password.
My password is all correct and I checked "Remeber this password in my keychain" but it still doesn't work. This message keeps poping out everytime no matter whether Yahoo is trying to receive new emails or not.
I originally thought it was a probelm from Yahoo, and I had emailed them this problem, and they said they had solved this issue from their end even though I kept telling them my password is still not accepted.  The strange thing is that I think I could still send and receive emails (although not sure if I am receiving all the emails since the message kept poping out and that my yahoo keeps on going processing mode and then in the end a triangle with exclamation mark just appeared)
Another strange thing is that I have another Yahoo account on my Mail, yet this one never had simialr problem like this before. It is alsways this particular account I have that is having this problem.
I tried changing my password, logging in Yahoo from their website making sure the POP setting has checked. Still didn't solve my problem
I have tried going into my keychain to verify and repair my password from Keychain First Aid. But no problem was found.
I have also tried deleting my account from Mai Preference and re-added back on, still doesn't work.
The first time this problem had happened to this account, I ended up deleting it from Mail and added back on and it seemed to work, however this time nothing seems to be working.
    Please help me!
    Thank you.

Hey I also have this problem, but I think I might have diagnosed the problem (temporarily at least).
I realized that ever since I started using the Mail app, I rarely logged in to my actual Yahoo account. When I logged into Yahoo account, my account was actually temporarily deactivated as I haven't logged in for more than 2 weeks. So I signed in, and everything went back to normal.
Now the Mail app has stopped asking me to key in my password (at least for the last hour, so I'm happy).
Hopefully this will work. If it asks again, I will just log into my Yahoo account online.
    Cheers!

  • Intermittent "The mail server rejected the password" on SBC-Yahoo

I have Mail set to automatically check email every 5 minutes from an SBC-Yahoo DSL line.
*Every day* when I come home, the "Server rejected the password" error dialog is waiting for me. Of course, the password is correct. When I re-enter it, Mail downloads the mail correctly.
This problem seems to occur more often since I switched over from the old prodigy.net to the sbc.yahoo.com servers.
While I sure wished that Mail was not totally boneheaded in handling the occasional failed POP connection attempt, I wonder whether:
    1. I am the only one having this problem
    2. It's a Yahoo problem
    3. Is there a way to fix it?
    TIA

I am having the same problem. I have to re-type my password for two POP accounts each time I start MAIL. It doesn't hold the SMTP passwords either.
Once I go into the preferences and re-type them it will connect fine until I restart MAIL and I have to start all over again...I too wonder the same things!
