Mail keeps "using" a file ...

... that was attached to an email so that I can't write over the file later on - I get a file is in use message. Even if I close Mail, the file is inaccessible. Is there some way of shutting off this action? Finder windows are closed so it's not a finder window pointing to the file. Thx.

It's not Apple's responsibility to update third party software.
If you have BrowserPlus installed, it's not compatible with Safari 5.

Mail merge using PDF file and Excel spreadsheet

How do I mail merge an existing PDF file (the template) with a 50-record text file exported from Excel to create 50 PDFs? I am using Adobe Acrobat XI. I could not find anything under TOOLS | FORMS that would allow me to do a mail merge. I was able to import the text file but it only produced one record.
Since this is a pre-designed legal document, I do not want to recreate the PDF file in MS Word, then perform the mail merge in Word to PDF.
From my online research it seems I will be forced to purchase an Acrobat plugin to perform this simple task.
Am I simply overlooking something?

Mail Adapter using ZIP files

Hi,
I need to create a bidirectional integration based in mail. These mails have an attached zipped file that contains 8-10 xml files and those files are the files I must use to create integration.
      1 - Any Idea to receive zipped files?
      2 - How can I deal with all the received files?

Mail keeps using up all my internet allowance?

Hi. Mail 4.4 keeps caching my attachments all the time, even the ones which I'm pretty sure are already cached (I have a look at the activity window). It uses up so much internet but I want to be able to see my mail and attachments when offline. How do I fix this, is it a glitch? Cheers!

Mail keeps using an old email address as the "reply-to" despite having deleted the account long ago

Any advice? I am running into the problem on my Mac Book and iMac and am running OS 10.8.2 on both machines.

I am wondering if the problem might be in how your service provider is identifying you. Try this. Send yourself an email. When you receive it, look at Mail / View / Message / All Headers. There might be a clue in all the text you will get.

Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my accounts every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail (the message says that the outgoing server was rejected. I cannot edit the outgoing server, and the keychain will not save my passwords (the ports are valid). How can I change the outgoing server to send emails, and how can I avoid having Mail request my passwords every 2 minutes? Verizon, as usual, will not provide support to iMacs.

Is there an email saved in your drafts or outbox folder? I suspect that Mail is continually trying to send it, and each time Google is rejecting the email message.
You can open the message and then delete it from your Outbox folder. Then try removing all @gmail email addresses from it and seeing whether you can send to the other folks. I suspect that will work.
With email, if an SMTP server *can* verify email addresses, sometimes it will and it will refuse to send messages. If a message has to be relayed across servers, no verification is done, and you'll get a bounce if an email address is bad.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

A CGI file usually runs a server side script with specific parameters and there is usually data appended to the link to specify that action.
It that GET or POST data is missing then you may get a download prompt to save the file instead.
You may have a Firefox extension or security software on your computer causing this issue.
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Mail is using wrong certificate file

I have a signed cert that has been imported into server admin. It shows correctly as being signed. There is also a Default certificate as well. So server admin shows one self signed cert named Default, and my signed cert. I have configured mail to use my signed certificate from the drop down cert list which shows both Default and my signed cert however when my clients connect they are being handed a self-signed cert with the same name as my signed cert. My thought is it is handing out the cert from before it was updated with .crt file. How can I correct this?

Server Admin has a habit of incorrectly writing this information into imapd.conf.
Edit /etc/imapd.conf and change:
tlscommonname: Default
to:
tlscommonname: your.hostname.com (as used for the certificate)
Also make sure that:
tlscertfile:
tlskeyfile:
tlscafile:
point to the correct file.
