Mail Locking Up on Certain Emails

I have started having an issue in mail where certain contacts will send an email and when I click to read the message does not come up. Right after I click on it mail hesitates for a minute and then I will get the spinning wheel and it shows mail is not responding.
Any Ideas? Thanks in Advance!

Try this:
1. Quit Mail if it's running.
2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Mail and delete all the sub-folders within that one.
3. Go to Home/Library/Mail and delete any of these files you have there:
• Downloads.plist
• Envelope Index
• Form Values
• History.plist
• LSMMap2.plist
4. Restart Mail and let it import your existing messages; when it's done, try using Mail and see if it works normally again.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when trying to open Mail or Safari.

  • Solution to hanging mail when responding to certain emails

I've had this annoying problem for a couple of months where I would get the spinning wheel of death when I would try and respond to certain emails. I've read multiple posts and suggestions and tried almost all of them to no avail. I finally read a tech note describing problems that some programs may have when a particular font is corrupted. So, this is what I did and it solved the problem:
    1. I opened the font book application (in your applications folder) and examined each and every font for signs of corruption. They all looked perfect. But I did notice that some font styles (bold, italics, etc...) were duplicated. The ones that have duplications appear with a small dot next to them.
    2. I opened each font with a dot next to it (click on the little arrow on the left of the font) and disabled one of each duplicated font style (typically the one that did not have a dot next to it).
    3. restarted mail (after having to force quit it) and I was able to reply to the problem emails.
Hope this is useful to some other's out there who've been experiencing the same problem.
    Cheers y'all,
    ramo

Cltrl/Alt/Delete for Task Manager, look under processes tab for firefox.exe, highlight and hit delete key. Then search for other instances of firefox.exe and delete them too. Close Task Manager and click on your Firefox icon and it should come up. This happens to my wife when she is frustrated and just closes Firefox outright and then immediately tries to reopen it. The Task Manager has not had time to close out firefox.exe

  • Can Mail automatically set a certain email account to reply to business contacts?

I have two gmail accounts enabled in the new Mail client. One for business and the other is my regular. It is crucial that I reply to business clients using my business email.
In Mail's reply window, it gives me the option of choosing which account to reply with, but this is cumbersome and tedious and I have already replied with the wrong account a few times. For professionalism, this cannot happen again.
I'd like to use the Mail client for all my accounts but for now I am forced to split my email workflow up by using a single email account in Mail and the other in a web browser (gmail.com, logged into a single account) and so on .
In iOS, I have to use two apps for email.
It would be glorious to have seperate contact lists for each account so that when [email protected] sends me an email or I list her as the recipient in an email my professional email address [email protected] is automatically the account responding or touching base with her.
Maybe Automator or a type of action could remedy this.

For the gmail accounts, do you have separate ID and Login, or is one an alias?
In Mail preferences under the composing tab, set it to send from Account of Selected Mailbox.
In the Accounts tab, set the correct outgoing server (should have different IDs) to the correct account and check the box to use only that server with that account.
Setting the outgoing server to a specific server will not swap servers when one fails. Instead, you will be prompted to select another server if it fails.
If you have the main inbox highlighted, replys should come from the account it was sent to. You can also expand the inbox to reveal the separate accounts under. If you have the business account highlighted, then any message sent will be from that account.

  • High CPU usage when selecting certain emails

I experience (above) 100% CPU usage in Mail.app when selecting certain emails. Mostly emails from the same sender.
The emails contain MIME multipart data. One part is BASE64 encoded text, the other is quoted-printable encoded HTML.
I can see in the process trace that two threads seem to be thrashing around in MFRedundantTextIdentifier.
CPU usage goes up. I can still use the application (it is not blocked). But it cannot be quit normally (only with force quit).
Apple engineers: this must be something that you would wish to find and fix?
Any help with diagnosing would be greatly appreciated!
    Sincerely.
    -dennis

Maybe my initial post was not clear so let me add some clarifications.
I have the problem with Aero disabled
I have the problem on the Apple site which does not have any flash content.
I have already hacked the lastest nvidia drivers to get them on my system which did not change anything. Can you provide a link to some other 'supported' beta drivers?
I am using the new 13 inch air so it has the newer graphics card so I would expect it to be faster than an old HTPC with a 9400m in it. I wasn't stating that my Air had a 9400m.
It would be great if someone you also do the test to check the cpu load:
    - when playing a 720 mkv
    - when dragging a window across the screen
Just open task manager and see if the CPU spikes.
    Many thanks!

  • AppleScript to TEXT me when certain emails come in

Currently, I have a Mail Rule that forwards certain emails to me, via text.
It comes over unformatted for text, very ugly and hard to read.
I would like an AppleScript to send me a text that only has FROM and SUBJECT. Once I see that, I can get the rest form my iPhone. I just don't want to miss these emails.
Has anyone already written this script?

    Thanks for the pointer!

  • Is it possible to keep certain emails together in a folder in mac mail

is it possible to keep certain emails together in a separate folder in mac mail?
I have a variety of e-mails pertaining to a particular subject that I would like to keep together.
    Thanks in advance

Yes.  Create a new mailbox folder for On My Mac via the Mailbox ➙ New Mailbox menu option.
Name it, select the emails you want to group and drag to the mailbox in the left hand pane of Mail.
In addition you can create a New Smart Mailbox Folder with as many conditions needed to gather the various emails into it.
You will have to move the emails out of the In box to full time storage mailbox created above.

Just trying out my new mac but email won't load, error says "The mail server denied access to the account because an administrator or other mail client was using it when Mail tried to log in. Try again later." A little lock is beside the email inbox account, no password prompted and account is online and enabled... Thoughts?

Have you tried clicking on the lock to see it it will then ask for a passwored.  Otherwise, try reblooting.

Just got an iPad mini. In mail I want to create a folder to save certain emails. I'll call the folder "Saved". Should be simple, right?

For IMAP mail like Gmail, you can use the Edit button to create new folder. It doesn't work for POP mail.

    Yes ... and it is
Since you're in the Mountain Lion forum, it is indeed simple to create a "Saved" folder on your Mac and save emails into it.  You should create the "Saved" folder using Finder.
The fact that you just got an iPad mini is completely irrelevant to the discussion as it stands.

  • At sending mail to certain email address: MS Outlook stopped working and needs to restart

I am facing that problem but only with certain email address while with some other it works fine. Thought the email address is the problem, I tried with iPad and it works fine. This signifies that the problem is NOT the email address but the software itself
(ipad does not use Outlook). I have tried to disable add-on in registry but to no avail. Have used also MS diagnostic software without any success.
Seems like this is a category problem, I wonder why Microsoft does not act on this bug?
    Please help

    Hi,
This issue may be caused by the corrupted Auto-Complete cache, please run Outlook with the "/cleanautocompletecache":
Press Win + R, type "outlook.exe /cleanautocompletecache" in the blank box, press Enter.
This will remove all names and e-mail addresses from the Auto-Complete list. Then send the emails again to check the result.
Anyway, could you let me know what symptom that makes it look like a category problem?

  • Mail: Have an email that when I try to delete I get rotating colored circle and mail locks up?

For the first time, I have received an email from known source and when I go to delete it I get a rotating colored circle and mail locks up. To get out I have to force quit.
I have an iMac running Lion.
Any idea of what may be going on here?

    Hello,
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions,  then move these files to the Desktop.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Is there a way to create a rule for Apple Mail that when a certain person is a recipient, make the email plain text?

My boss has a blackberry and when I send pdf attachments and copy him, he cannot see the attachments.  I forget to make the email plain text before sending it to him.  I can use Thunderbird as my client and it works fine but it is not linked to the other apps on my mac like Apple Mail.  Can I make a rule or something for Mail so that when his email address is a recipient of the email, it will send as plain text to him?

I don't think so. Not without setting up an AppleScript and I am not proficient with those.
You can, however, set the follolwing in Mail > Preferences > Composing
Responding: Use the same message format as the original message.
But that would only be for responding to messages sent from his Blackberry.
