Mail Lost in SOST

The transaction SOST shows that three emails were sent on 1st July 2011 1 to the email id , but it  has not been received. Is there a way to trace the physical transfer of the email after it passes SOST?
Please help

HI,
If you send it to yourself at hotmail or something, and you receive it, did it arrive in your SPAM folder? Your recipient may have SPAM filters that are killing or diverting the email.

  • Mail lost 'Sent Mails'

    Hello,
Mail lost all my sent mails today (only the few that were sent today are in my sent box). I have 3 accounts running through Mail but it's only my .mac account that seems to have a problem. Any suggestions??
    Thanks very much,
    Genee

Did you have any success resolving this? Same thing happened to me.

    Hi,
I recently (over this past summer) updated my phone and plan with Verizon.  I'm from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and I got the phone in Pittsburgh.  It is a Droid Eris and very nice.  I got it and a month later I moved to Olympia, Washington for school.  Since moving there, I have hardly been able to use it.  The service is terrible and its been impossible to keep in touch with my family, I wasn't even able to call them over Thanksgiving.  I'm also having to pay extra money so I can use the internet on my phone, but I can't even access the internet let alone make phone calls.  It's really frustrating.  I can't use my phone to keep in touch with everyone in Pittsburgh-and if I am ever in trouble I wouldn't be able to call for help, which makes me really nervous.  Is there a way I can cancel my 2yr contract?  Yes.  Just visit a Verizon store, or dial *611 from your phone and let them know you would like to cancel your account.  Would I have to pay a fee-and how much would that cost? Yes, Verizon no longer waives ETFs due to moving to an area without service, so you will probably have to pay an Early Termination Fee.  Since you have a smartphone, it will probably be $350 less $10 for each month of service you have completed.  The Customer Service rep you contact about cancelling will be able to tell you the exact amount.  Would I have to go to the Verizon store I bought the phone from to do this or would I have to do this in Washington-where I am now living and having the problems? You can do it over the phone, or at a corporate Verizon store.  Help!

  • Mail lost all settings and does not allow to see old messages

One day I launched mail and it appeared as if it was starting for the first time. I aborted the procedure, rebooted and relaunched mail but again. So I regave all the necessary parameters. Then I noticed that Mail had actually kept all the previously custom folders but would not show -a part from the most recent ones- all older messages in Inbox. I looked into Library/Mail/mailboxes and found the missing messages but whenever trying to reimport them into mail got the message that Mail could not find messages in a format acceptable to Mac OS. Actually the messages can be opened with the Mail (but not imported) and have extension .emlx
As an addtional info, the problem appeared shortly after I had switched hosting service but I do not see how this could have affected mails sitting in my hard disk.
It should also be noted that I am receiving and reading new mails without problem.
Any suggestion on how to recover my messages and have them again accessible in my Inbox?
    Thanks.
    Stefano

What you’ve described could be the result of having set up the account differently and Mail not recognizing the account folder already present in ~/Library/Mail/ — see below a more thorough description of this particular issue. If this is a POP account, the most recent messages in Inbox might appear to have been preserved because they were still on the server and Mail downloaded them again as if you had never set up this account in Mail before.
Under some circumstances (e.g. lack of available disk space, filesystem corruption, repeated crashes), Mail may discard the current ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preferences file and create a new one. This file is where all the account settings are stored. As a result, all your non-.Mac account settings (but not the messages themselves) are lost. If you had a .Mac account, its settings would appear to have been preserved because Mail would set up that account automatically using the System Preferences > .Mac settings.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what’s it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), quit Mail if it’s running, and make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, just in case something else goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. This is where all your mail is stored.
There are three ways you could have solved this problem (#2 is what you did):
    (1) Restore ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from a backup if you have one. Mail shouldn’t be running while you do this.
    (2) Set up your mail accounts again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done. You’ll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    (3) Mail may have renamed the old preferences file to com.apple.mail.plist.saved. If that’s the case, you may try trashing the new com.apple.mail.plist and renaming the old com.apple.mail.plist.saved back to com.apple.mail.plist. Again, be sure Mail isn’t running while doing this. Given the circumstances, I would expect com.apple.mail.plist.saved to be corrupt, but apparently that often is not the case and the settings can indeed be restored by just renaming it back to com.apple.mail.plist.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.
    <hr>
For each mail account, Mail creates a folder in ~/Library/Mail/ whose name starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server.
When re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, setting up an account with a username and an incoming mail server that exactly match one of the already existing account folders in ~/Library/Mail/ causes Mail to automatically recognize and reuse that account folder. If the username and/or the incoming mail server are different and don’t match an already existing account folder, however, a new account folder is created from scratch, that account behaves as if it had never been set up in Mail before, the old account folder is simply ignored, and the messages it contains become inaccessible other than by manually importing them or setting up the account again.
If you have more account folders in ~/Library/Mail/ than accounts in Mail > Preferences > Accounts, that means some of the account folders have been created anew whereas others are being ignored by Mail (and hence, you don’t have access to the mailboxes and messages stored within them). You can, however, import their contents doing File > Import Mailboxes, choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format, and following the instructions. You can get rid of the unused account folders afterwards.
Pay attention to the instructions that Mail displays when choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format. In the next step, Mail wants you to select the folder that contains the mailboxes to be imported (i.e. the folder where the *.mbox folders to be imported reside), not the *.mbox folders themselves nor the Messages folders within them. If you select the wrong folder, Mail says “No valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found” because it cannot find any *.mbox folders within the folder you’re selecting.
Alternatively, you may try re-creating com.apple.mail.plist again and this time use the exact same username and incoming mail server that Mail used to name the old account folder.

  • Sent mail lost. Not in sent, not in draft, not in outbox!

    Hi,
I use IMAP with a gmail account.
I find myself a few times sending e-mails and a few minutes later I check that the mail has not been sent, and it's not in draft either. There is no outbox either, not even showing an outbox. When I check activity down to the left I see "Incoming messages 10 from 23" (or any number) kind of halted, at 0 kb/s... then I need to close mail and open mail again, but my sent messages have been lost!
Then I go to Gmail and the mails are not there. Lost.
This happened a few times, not too much. But that thing of incoming messages halted at 0kb happens EVERY DAY. If I go to Gmail I have a few new e-mails, but my mail is halted. Any thoughts???
    Thanks

I am having the identical problem w/ Mail on a 10.5.2 system using IMAP
It has happened twice that I know of- mails reached the recipients but do not exist anywhere else- i have grepped all of the files on the server as well, so they are definitely not getting saved.
our mail setup is bincimap 1.2.13, vpopmail 5.4.24, qmail 1.03
    really disturbing

  • Mails Lost Exchange 2007

    Hi,
I've some problems with the exchange server 2007. We are losing some mails and it looks like they getting lost between the Edge and the Hub role. All roles are installed on one physical device (no vms). I searched the one of the lost mails with the trouble
shooting tool and found it after that i check the details with get-messagetrackinglog -internalmessageid "XXXX".
The result was that this "lost message" has just one entry with the eventID RECEIVE. Then I checked an email for the same sender which arrived the mailbox. This mail has two entries, one with eventID RECEIVE and another with the eventID DELIVER.
My question is how can I find and resend this lost emails. They can not be in the queue anymore bnecause they are deleted after the categorizer categorizes them.
Is there a shell command to resend them?
Where can I find the e-mails, are tehy still cached on the system?
    Thanks for your Help

    Hi,
as you can see in my earlier post I checked two messages of the same sender, one good and one bad message.
Both were received from the system and one was acctually delivered.
I just called the one mail "Badmail" because it didn't went trough to the mailbox but it was recived and it still think it got lost on the way from teh queue to the mbx.

  • Old mail lost

I loaded leopard, but my user information has not been updated.

How do I import all my mail, passwords etc.?

  • Mail lost when upgrading to Tiger - help!

We finally upgraded to Tiger 9from an earlier version of OS X. When we opened mail, we were prompted to import messages. But only the most recent messages appear in the new mailbox -- we've lost thousands of e-mails!
How can we recover the lost e-mails and import them into the mail program in Tiger?
    Thanks!

The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
More specifically, if this is a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problem. A similar procedure should allow you to fix other mailboxes that might also be affected:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn’t need to have an .mbox extension.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
    5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
    6. Move any strangely-named Messages-T0x... folders to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected. If you’ve been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
    7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
    8. Open Mail.
    9. The account’s Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that’s not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
    10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that’s on the Desktop.
As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated now. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages anywhere you want and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Take a look at the following article (also referenced in the thread I mentioned at the beginning of this post) to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON’T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Mail: lost my Messages column!

Just upgraded to Lion a few weeks ago with the purchase of a new white Macbook at a university bookstore.  I was resizing columns in Mail and accidentally lost my messages pane (the right-most column).  I poked around on the internet and saw that this had happened to other people, so I tried everything they said to fix it -- double-clicking on the resize bar, dragging the edges around, no dice.  Interestingly, I can see the messages pane when Mail is in fullscreen mode -- I fullscreened it and was able to get it back by clicking the little dot in the center of the righthand edge -- but as soon as I exited fullscreen, it disappeared again.  Any thoughts?

Try a manual setup. After filling in the 1st screen, hold down the option/alt key while clicking Continue. Fill in the necessary information, then click continue until all screens are filled in.

  • All mail lost

    Vr gr Marieke

Thanks, VK. Yes, you would think so, but unfortunately after reimporting all my mailboxes everything is all misfiled and mislabeled.
Going back more than eight years, I have no idea which emails have been read or replied to, and some mailboxes have so many items now that they are unusable -- cannot copy or move or remove. Also, trash does not empty.
Rebuilding and reimporting are both critically important tools for getting back up and going. I'm sure glad they are there! But unless reindexing is done regularly (daily, weekly, monthly) data will never be restored exactly the way it was.
Same goes for Time Machine. It works best for the occasional accidental deletion or corrupted file, but for actually restoring your computer, disk cloning is the best way to go.
In the meantime I spent all night looking for a mission critical, professional quality POP mail client for Mac but found nothing yet. I'm sure something will turn up. I wonder what softwre the government use to ensure that no emails are lost?
Thanks again for your help, VK.

  • Me mail lost all my addresses

since mac.com switched over to me.com all my stored addresses are gone (not to mention the worst email program ever...slow and inefficient) any way to retrieve all my lost addresses? they are simply gone! can't email anyone unless they email me first! this new program stinks...what was wrong with the other one?

    Hello,
Open the Mac Mail application, the icon should be in your Dock and see if your stored addresses are there. You should not have lost any data just because of the switch.
Also, try this. Locate this file. com.apple.DotMacSync.plist
It's here; /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate that file and drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot your Mac. Sometimes preference files associated with the application can become corrupted, this fixes that. Your Mac will create a new preference file for you.
Also, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Disk Utility is in your Applications/Utilities folder. Launch DU, slect MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab, then click Repair Disk Permissions. Do this at least once a week for regular maintenance. Repair Disk Permissions BEFORE and AFTER any software updates or upgrades.

  • Retrieve mails lost for routing fail in distribution list

    hi
I read mails from external provider with a pop connector and write them in exchange 2010.
(message tracking: EventID : RECEIVE   Source: SMTP)
I wrote a wrong internal distribution list, so I got no mail delivered to the list
(message tracking: EventID : FAIL   Source: ROUTING)
anyway, exchange gave me a MessageID for every lost mail.
tracking goes back 30 days ('cause or retention period?)
    question is (you can imagine):
    - are the mails somewhere in server ?
    - as and administrator, can I retrieve them (by EMC, powershell, etc...)
    Thanks
    Roberto

    Hi Ed
    it's not in this way.
As i said in fist post, mails was "received" by exchange
in tracking tool i can see them as
EventID : RECEIVE   Source: SMTP , with the WRONG address, that caused the routing to fail.
on the SAME line in tracking tool, i anyway got a MessageID, so i imagine they are "somewhere" IN exchange...
