Mail, .Mac, & Treo 700p

I would like to use Mac Mail in OS 10.4.7 and my new Treo 700P to read email from a .Mac email account.
My question is:
What are the correct folder names to use for all three devices so that they will all remain synced properly using an IMAP setup?
ie: when I send an email from my treo, I would like it to appear in the "sent" folder on my Mac and vice versa of course.
Also, is there a way to schedule syncing of the IMAP folders on Mac Mail, to sync every 5 or 10 minutes?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thank you,
Mike Mills
G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

The email client on your Mac and the email client on the Treo are independent. The Treo email client communicates with your email accounts at Comcast, not with your Mac. Likewise, your Mac retreives the mail from the Comcast server, not from your Treo. So, yes, the email issues are ISP-related, not Mac.
Don't expect any real support from Palm, or Sprint, regarding Mac issues.
Now to your specific questions.
1) You don't say if you are using POP or IMAP with your comcast account. If you are using IMAP, it's very easy to keep the mail synced on both devices. IMAP is designed to ease reading/sending mail from multiple locations. If you are using POP, I would suggest you set the email client on the Treo to NOT delete mail on the server, then when you return home, you can download the mail to your Mac and delete it from the server if you desire.
2) Simple. Enter your account info and not your wife's on the Treo.
3) Syncing. If you want to fully sync yoru calendar and address book data, I suggest you skip iSync and use Missing Sync from www.markspace.com

  • Versamail Auto-sync feature not working with AOL mail w/Treo 700p (Verizon)

I'm having a problem with the Auto-sync feature not working with my 700p (verizon) with my aol mail.  It had worked perfect since May 2007.  Just started having problems End of April 2008.  Sounded like I needed another incoming mail server from aol other than:  imap.aol.com, aol told me they also use pop.aol.com, that isn't working either.  I get an error message that says "last auto-sync attempt failed."....Anyone else having this issue?  I'm trying to decide whether to get rid of my aol mail of 14 yrs and use other address to continue using versamail 3.5  or keep aol and use Verizon Wireless sync.  I do not like how wireless sync sends mail to outbox and then syncs vs sending right away.   Please help...
Post relates to: Treo 700p (Verizon)

I am having the EXACT same problem: Palm 700p, Versamail, AOL, Verizon.
It started about 1 month ago.  The GET still works, but AUTO-SYNC does not...After spending hours on the phone with Palm tech support, and reaching someone who said AOL had changed something in their servers.  They suggested TRYING Chatteremail, another Palm product.  I have tried it for 20+ days out of the 30 days you get for free.  It works pretty well, but NOT every e-mail that goes to my AOL acct is making it to my phone.  The thing that's great about Chatter is that can be "live" all of time.  Not auto-syncing every 15 minutes.
It's very frustrating....The same way the Versamail just stopping auto-syncing is very frustrating.  With Versamail, sometimes I did not even get the error message.  If Chatteremail worked consistently, I would bite the bullet, and pay for it, but to pay for it, and have it not pull down all the e-mails, all the time is not good.
I spoke to Palm Tech Support in N. America today, and they say the way AOL uses IMAP servers is in a non-traditional way, and it's very hard to deal with.  They suggest ditching AOL, and using something reliable for syncing purposes like GMAIL.  It's just hard to cut the cord.  The man I was on the phone with knew of my problem, and he solved it by getting rid of AOL.  It's just tough, since so many people have the e-mail address for me.
    On http://mobile.aol.com/aolproducts/mobile-email/mail-client
there seems to be some indication when you click on Smart Phones on left, that Coming Soon is Palm, but I don't know if that's going to be downloadable for 700p, or Palms moving forward.  Or how far away that is.
I tried wireless sync and hated it.
This is really a pain in the butt.
*** Who did you speak to at AOL?
*** How did you reach them?  e-mail?  phone #?
I also did a search and found another program called "Snappermail", which I might try, and see if it's any better than Chatteremail.

  • Versamail on Treo 700p using Verizon WIreless/ Mac Mail

I have recently purchased a Palm Treo 700p and am attempting to set up the email in Versamail (comes with Treo). I use .Mac as my main email. I have set up the account with Mail Service as Apple Mac, Protocol as IMAP, Username (mac id), password (mac password), incoming mail server is mail.mac.com. This works fine for receiving mail. However, I can't find the right combination for the Outgoing mail server. I'm trying outgoing.verizon.net without any luck. Have trid to put in the authentication under my Verizon account username and Password. Am not getting the 530 Authentication error message, but instead am getting "the server did not recognize you username/password".
Which username/password would the SMTP verizon server be looking for???
Any other thoughts (this is way too hard...)
    thx

I somehow managed to reply twice to the same thread. Strange. It's obviously too late at night to be doing this…
So, since I cannot delete this second message and it's now too late to modify it, I have posted yet a third to clarify information that did not appear in the first but was included in the second:
Your issue arises because your .Mac account does not reside in the Verizon domain. The Verizon server is looking for something like [email protected] [or something similar] and a matching password. By switching from the Verizon smtp to server to the .Mac smtp server, which you are routed to via your Verizon-provided pathway, you should be able to send mail.
Okay, that does it. Now I'm off to get some apparently much needed sleep.

Is it possible to sync my 5yr-old Palm Treo 700p to my new iPhone? If yes, please tell me how to do it.
I did sync the Palm to my MacBook Pro and then to my new iPhone. But it only transferred the contacts and phone numbers, no addresses, no email, no notes. I have 2500 contacts in my Treo/iPhone. It would be impossible to enter the missing information by hand.

looks like a corrupted settings and versamail.
    try doing the following:
    1. if you already have a backup of your data, hard reset the device.
    2. go to the username folder and rename versamail and exchange folders
    3. hotsync again and recreate the versamail account.

  • Palm Treo 700p Cannot install. Windows Vista looking for Drivers

Installed Palm software and synced on my Dell with no issues.
Went to install on 2nd PC with Windows Vista Home.  Issues.  Got new download for Vista 32 and downloaded off site.
Same error puts me in a circle.  System finds new hardware.  Looks to install driver.  Can't find Drive on CD or Hardrive and so keeps in loop.  Cannot finish 1st "sync" without driver so install does not complete.
    Please advise:
Can I use the Palm device on two seperate PC's (One on NT running fine..now adding Vista Home).
How do I get the drive installed?
How do I be sure NOT to overwrite the data on the Palm when I sync the 1st time on the 2nd pc.
    Thanks

Hello jpmill2 and welcome to the Palm forums.
    1. Please make sure that your Windows Vista account is a member of the Administrators group.  I would also be sure to check that antivirus software is disabled during the install process.
    2. You can use the Treo 700p with more than one computer.  I sync my Treo with my office PC running Windows XP SP2 and my Vista Business SP1 machine at home.  (And a Mac, just for good measure.)
    3. The USB driver for the Treo 700p is obtained by installing Palm Desktop 4.2 (bundled on the Treo 700p software disc) or by installing Palm Desktop 6.2 by ACCESS for Windows [Vista].  You should install the software first, and then connect the Treo after the install is complete. If prompted to HotSync during the install, I aways Skip it.
    4. If you Skip the HotSync during the Palm Desktop isntall, you can create a new HotSync ID on the computer with the same name as the HotSync ID on your Treo.  Then set the conduits to Handheld overwrites Desktop and then sync.
    Hope that helps,
    Alan G

  • Treo 700p sync on Macintosh

Has anyone been able to successfully sync a Palm Treo 700p (Verizon) with a Mac?

I was able to successfully sync the Treo 700p (Sprint) on a MacBook Pro 15" by installing the latest Mac Palm Desktop Software (not available for 700p yet, so I downloaded the 650 version) and followed installation instructions, restarted, then opened iSync. In iSync, I enabled Palm OS Device under the Device Menu and then opened Hot Sync (in Applications folder) and in "Conduit Settings" double-click iSync conduit and check off enable for this device. Now your Treo will show in iSync and you can set your settings in iSync and click Sync (need to press hot sync button on Treo if using Bluetooth connection). Hope this helps!

  • Treo 700p restarting when trying to sync

My treo 700p keeps restarting whenever I try to sync it with my Mac. I have been having syncing problems for awhile now, but now it just restarts everytime, and discontinues the sync. Any ideas on how to proceed? I was going to troubleshoot the syncing problems (my Mac won't find the device through the USB cable) but now this is happening and I'm not sure where to go from here.
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

In response to the second post, I'm not sure how to check this on my phone, is this a mac setting? There is no log created, the mac says it can't find my device when connected through USB. It can find my phone through bluetooth, but recognizes it as a phone and says it doesn't support syncing with this device. I initially went with USB syncing because it was easier. When I asked the phone to hotsync via bluetooth, it crashed and restarted again.
    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  • MacBook Pro, BlueTooth Fax Modem with Treo 700p EVDO

MacOSX 10.4.6 w/ all of the latest Software Updates.
    I followed the steps below:
    1. In System Preferences, go to Print & Fax
    2. Open the Printer Browser (click "+" in the Printing tab)
    3. Option-click on "More Printers"
    4. Select "Advanced" in the popup list
    5. Select "Bluetooth-modem" from the "Device" popup that appears
    6. Select "Other" from the "Printer Model" menu
    7. In the "Choose file" dialog go to System>Library -> Frameworks -> ApplicationServices.framework -> Frameworks -> PrintCore.framework -> Resources -> English.lproj -> Fax.ppd. Note that you can replace English.lproj with the language of your choice.
    8. Finally, click Add
Then to FAX...I did the following...
    Texedit.App
    File -> Print...
and selected the PDF Fax Option.
It acted like it was dialing the fax number (xxx-xxx-xxxx), the Treo 700p lit up like it was receiving the commands, but nothing happened. I couldn 't even get it to dial a normal PSTN number.
Is there something else I need to do?

Apparently there is a fee for using any Treo device as a modem through both Verizon and Sprint. While the easy connectivity of Bluetooth is attractive, most people are interested in attaching the Treo via USB for the data speed transfer factor. After heavy research to attempt to connect my iBook G4 to the internet via the Treo 700p without having to pay Verizon's $15 surcharge, I came across USB Modem. USB Modem supports connecting your Mac to the Internet using the Treo 600, 650 and 700p. And instead of paying $15 monthly, this application is only $25 and offers a free trial to make sure it is compatible with your phone and Mac. But FYI...you have to have the 700p to take advantage of the EVDO broadband network.

  • Reverse DUN for a Treo 700p

I am not an advanced user.
I have a Treo 700p without a data plan and was interested in learning how to use my iBook's Wifi connection with BlueTooth to permit the Treo to use the internet. I did some searching and came across a number of threads that all ended up pointing to this item http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031117142051675&query=bluetoothshareinternet
Since it is from 2003 and I am using Mac OSX 10.4.8, I imagine that some of the tips are not applicable. To start out, I can't find "bluetooth serial utility" I was wondering if there was something a little bit less confusing to help walk me through the process.

Clearly, the easiest and most reliable way to engage in what is termed 'internet sharing' via Bluetooth—where a wireless or terrestrially-connected Mac OS X computer is used to enable a Bluetooth equipped Palm handheld organizer or smartphone is to install the Missing Sync for Palm OS, which includes support for internet sharing:

  • Odd lockup using Bluetooth to get to Web with a Treo 700p

Getting to the web with my Verizon Treo 700p is better with Leopard than it was with Tiger. (For instructions on how to do this see http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=215) However I do get odd behavior. If the connection is lost (not sure if it the blutetooth or the web connection) and I attempt to reconnect, sometimes the "Connecting" in the title bar starts to scroll left to right and freezes. The fan on the MacBook starts to crank up and the machine is minimally responsive. I could not quit any apps. Could not even force quit. Oddly, turning off bluetooth on the phone gave me control of the Mac back. I thought I would mention this in case any one else has seen this and if there should be a fix in the works by someone. It is odd that a bluetooth device can have this level of control over the computer.

Thought I should resolve this one. Seems I needed to upgrade the OS on the Treo. Apparently there was a minor release which fixed the issue (so minor that the only change in the version number is an underscore!) Works much better since the treo upgrade.

  • Sprint Treo 700p Internet

I've been searching around Sprint, cell phone message boards, Palm, and here for an answer as to how exactly I use my Palm Treo 700p as an internet connection using EVDO.
From my understanding it will only work via bluetooth with the mac, which I'm ok with. I only intend on using this feature minimally, and just "want to know, so that I know" when I need to use it.
Has anyone set this up, or know how to get this working? Do I really need to pay for that "additional" wireless plan on top of my current power vision plan?
For those of you that have done this successfully, or understand it, I would truly appreciate your help!
    Thanks!

I have a Treo 700p Sprint PCS, and have done the whole nine yards. You can use the 700p as an EVDO modem (tether) using whichever connection method you prefer -- Bluetooth or USB. USB requires a little piece of software called, "USB Modem". Bluetooth is more limited by effective data rate, which is why I prefer USB. Unfortunately, USB 2.0 does not exist on the 700p, so you'll need to settle for USB 1.0... If I remember correctly, the procedures can be found in the forum discussion on everythingtreo.com. There's a bunch of folks who have been through this already, which should include my posts as well... BTW, yes you will require a "stand alone" data plan on Sprint PCS -- around $40/mo. Take a look there, and let me know if you need more help.

  • Treo 700p Updated Versamail to 3.5.4 and immediately went to a restarting loop...

I'll tell you the whole story so you can feel sorry for me and help.
I was trying to update my step-mom's versamail so she could get her office e-mails for her trip today.  Well, she had never plugged in her treo into her computer before, so I had to install palm desktop, etc.  The phone synced and it said it was backing up a lot of stuff, but I noticed it didn't update versamail.  So I ran the installer, and everything appeared to install fine.  The phone reset itself, showed the access powered (i think) screen and then the palm screen, and then it reset it self and did it again.
This went on for a good 5-10 minutes before I called it quits.  I tried taking the battery out and putting it back in, but still did the restart loop.  Well it came time for her to go, and she absolutely needed the phone.  So I had to do a hard reset so she could use it this weekend.  After the hard reset I synced it again to see if I could get the backup data on there.  After it loaded everything it went back to the reset loop.  So I hard reset it again, and gave it to her.  She brought her laptop that I used to do the syncing, so I'm hoping I can have a fix for her soon.
    Basically my questions are:
    - What happened to cause the loop?
    - How do I get all her info back on her phone without it causing the loop? (most important question)
    - How do I install versamail without it causing the loop?
    Thank you.

Looping resets are caused (Most of the time) by corruptioncoming over from the PC. The way to prevent this is to rename the backupfolder. (C:/Program Files/Palm/Hotsync username/Backup)
    Then try to reinstall VersaMail.

  • Treo 700P-Missing Sync: missing some contacts

I am trying to sync my mac with my new treo. Everything is good except that when I sync my contacts I get the following message in my Missing Sync history:
NSInvalidArgumentException * -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value
    OK Mark/Space Contacts with 1 message(s)
I am using Missing Sync because I could not get iSync to work very well at all with the treo.
    I am using iSync 2.2

Did you overwrite the contents of your Treo using the Mark/Space Contacts [and other Mark/Space conduits] during the first synchronization as Mark/Space instructs that you must, or are these contacts missing as a result of an event which merged the information contained in the Address Book and in your Palm OS contact application?
How many contacts are missing - that is to say, how do the record sets differ between the Address Book and your Treo 700p?
