Mail mailbox list not hiding

I have 10.9.1 on my iMac. Yesterday I pressed the "show" button to view the mailbox list. For some reason, it won't hide when I press "hide", the keyboard shortcut, or the appropriate button in the menu bar.

I had this issue happen today. I tried closing apps, restarting, etc. What finally worked was opening and closing Calendar. Went back to Mail and it the hide/show button worked again.
Incidentally, I acted on an event invitation request in Calendar when it was open for that brief period but I don't think that would have anything to do with it.

  • Mail enabled list not picking up items from the drop folder.

    Hi all,
I'm sorry if this has already been addressed but my searches didn't turn up anything that helped.
Our site has some mail enabled lists, that used to work and now do not.  Here is a list of things I've verified and done.
    1.  Verified that email reaches the drop folder.
    2.  Verified that the list accepts messages from any sender.
    3.  Verified that the incoming email address is the same as the sender.
    4.  In Central Admin verified the settings mode is set to advanced, that the SMTP mail server for incoming mail is correct, and that the e-mail drop folder is correct.
    5.  Restarted the Sharepoint 2010 Timer Service.
    6.  Restarted the IIS server that hosts the virtual SMTP Server, and restarted the IIS server hosts sharepoint.
    7.  Verified that the service account has permission to the drop folder.
    8.  Looked through event log and found nothing.
    9.  Verified Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Incoming E-Mail is running.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

  • Mail VIP list not showing "all VIPs" or useable in Smart mailboxes

    Hi there,
I thought I'd give the Mail app a go again in Yosemite after abandoning it when it all went horribly wrong in Mavericks.
I can't get the VIP list to work properly though. I have VIPs and I can open the VIP list to select an individual VIP (I have about 50) but I want to click on the main VIPs label to see mails from all VIPs. Specifically, I want to limit to the view to Inbox Only, so I can see all messages from any VIP that is currently in my inbox. The problem is, no mail shows when clicking on the main VIPs label, only when I click on individual VIP names. Also, if I create a Smart mailbox, using Sender is VIP, nothing works (no mails are found). I can still select multiple individual VIPs out of the list and that will show them all, but it's a pain and just doesn't seem like the right thing to do. in iOS, tapping on the VIP inbox, lists all mails from VIPs, why not on the mac too?
Anyone else having the same problems?
As a further clue. When you click on one mail box to another, the list of mails instantly changes to show the mails in the new mailbox. This is true if you click from an individual mailbox to the 'group' one. But, if I click from any mail box (that is showing mail) to the mail VIPs group, then the mails from the previous mailbox are still shown, ie the view doesn't re-fresh. I have to click on the main VIPs tab twice to get the mail list to refresh (which then refreshes to an empty list due to the problem above).
    This is driving me mad!

I have worked this out for myself and fixed the problem.
It's down to a bug in Mail (or possibly Spotlight). I had a VIP with an apostrophe in her email address which Mail wasn't handling properly and it was causing the search query to fail. Removing that contact from the VIP list fixed my issue.
Technically, what's happening is that the code wasn't "escaping" this special character and that was causing a syntax error in the search query.

  • Mac Mail Messages List Not Scrolling Down to Reveal New Emails

No, this is not a really huge deal but it's just annoying enough to warrant a question here - and it hasn't always operated this way so something must be going on.
My inbox is telling me I've received mail properly, and the messages are definitely there...but they remain hidden above the last message I read until I scroll up.
When I look at my message list, the last message I read is sitting at the top.
In order to view the new messages I have to scroll up manually to view them.
I haven't changed any settings or preferences so no help there, unfortunately.
    Thank you for any help!

I'd suggest creating a new test user account from the system preferences. Log in, open Mail, enter your .Mac settings and see how it goes.
Alternatively, you can try to reset Mail.app by renaming (for backup purposes) the following files: (This will affect your other mailboxes as well!)
    Preferences: your_name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    & Mail folder: your_name/Library/Mail/
Assuming a new Mail setup actually works, post back in case you need help on importing your old POP3 messages.
If not, I've no idea what to do... Your firewall should not affect .Mac behavior. (I got to admit, I don't particularly like Mail.app's buggy IMAP implementation.)
    Good luck!

  • Apple Mail mailbox list icon display size

I can not find how to change the size of the mailbox icons in Apple mail!  They are big now, and I want the icons to be smaller so I can see more.  I am talking about the left column in Apple Mail where the mailboxes are displayed.  I have the latest verison of Lion.  I am sure it is simple, but I can not find it!
    Kevin

The setting is not in an obvious place, but is where logic places it. Consider that that part of the Mail window is a Sidebar....
Go to System Preferences > General and in the middle part of that screen is a pulldown menu to set the icon size in the Sidebar. Reset that. You can leave the Mail window open while you make that change; the change is 'live' so you'll see the effect immediately.

  • In Mail I'm unable to see the mailboxes at the top of the mailbox list. I can see trash but not inbox. What do I need to do to see the entire list of mailboxes?

I cannot see all of my mailboxes in my mailbox list.

I'm guessing you are seeing the Trash in the Favorites bar.
Select Show Mail box list. If you don't see the Mailboxes icon, under View in the Menu bar select Show Mail Box List. (wording might be different in Mountain Lion).
If you still have problems, Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar. Log into Guest User. Open Mail, do you see the Mailboxes icon now?

  • My mailboxes are not showing up in the viewing area.  When I create a new mailbox they are listed.  How do I restore them in the mail view?

My mailboxes are not visible.  When I go to add a new mailbox they are visible when asked where to put the new mailbox.  If I lost them how do I get them back if possible.  I have played around with everything that I can think of but with no luck.

    I have sorted it myself!!
Ipod is now in the top right corner, last time I clicked on it, it ejected it but by clicking on the actual ipod icon then it brings up your ipod. I restored it to factory settings and synced all my music and it now works again. Hope this can help anyone who ends up with the same problem.

  • The junk mailbox could not be created on the mail server

I'm getting this error message on a few of my clients. Mail.app doesn't seem to want or is not able to create a mailbox on the imap server. I can manually create a whole bunch of folders but for some reason it won't create the junk mail folder. I can't find any errors in the cyrus logs that would indicate a problem with creating the mailbox. It insist on creating a local mailbox for SPAM but i'm not interested.
Any ideas? Google search as well as this forum have come up empty...

I think I just figured this out -- unfortunately, I don't have a solution. I'm having the same problem trying to create the junk mail folder on the server, so I fired up WireShark (a network sniffer) to see if that would reveal anything. Sure enough, it looks like Mail.app is trying to use an invalid name when creating the mailbox. When I try and move a message into the Junk mail folder, here's the IMAP transaction I get, my notes are in brackets:
    [... truncated ...]
    13.3 CLOSE [Mail.app -> Server]
    13.3 OK Completed [Server -> Mail.app]
14.3 CREATE "Junk (Corp Mail Server)" [Mail.app -> Server]
14.3 NO Invalid mailbox name [Server -> Mail.app]
15.3 SUBSCRIBE "Junk (Corp Mail Server)" [Mail.app -> Server]
15.3 NO Subscribe: Mailbox does not exist [Server -> Mail.app]
16.3 LIST "" "Junk (Corp Mail Server)" [Mail.app -> Server]
    16.3 OK Completed (0.000 secs 1 calls) [Server -> Mail.app]
    17.3 NAMESPACE [Mail.app -> Server]
    [... truncated ...]
It looks to me like it's trying to use the name of my mail profile in the name of the Junk folder, and I bet the IMAP doesn't like the (parens) ... looks like a bug to me.
    Hope that helps
    Swannie

  • TS4083 My mailboxes do not appear in alphabetical order in the mailbox view pane in Mac Mail??

My mailbox list in the mailbox view pane does not appear in alphabetical order. (Mac Mail iCloud account). This is on my iMac running Lion 10.7.4. Interesting though, the mailboxes are alphabetically sorted in my laptop and iPhone which are both also synced to my apple account. I'm baffled???

    Hi Graham,
Getting the alphabetical sort of your songs is easy. If you upgraded to the new iTunes all you would do is view your music and go to the List view. That option is on the right hand side underneath the search bar. Once you have change to that view, just click on the Name view to organize by name.

  • "On My Mac" does not map to ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes

OK, while fighting my IMAP issues with SpamArrest, I'm trying to cleanup my mailboxes to make sure I have nothing funny happening with my Mail apps. One thing I noticed is that the list of folders listed under "On My Mac" in Mail is not exactly the same as what is listed in ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes.
There are 4 more mboxes in ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes than in the "On My Mac" section of Mail. They are:
    Deleted Messages.mbox
    Drafts.mbox
    Notes.mbox
    Outbox.mbox
Given their generic names, I am wondering if this is just normal and they only come into play when I'm offline.
As an aside, part of the reason I'm looking at this is that I keep getting IMAP mboxes created in there that shouldn't be. For example, I have both:
    Drafts (CarnerosVentures (SpamArrest)).mbox
    INBOX.Drafts (Carneros Ventures (SpamArrest)).mbox
Since these are local files, I assume it's safe to delete all of the mboxes with the name "SpamArrest"in them in that folder. e.g.
    Deleted Messages (Carneros Ventures (SpamArrest)).mbox
    Drafts (CarnerosVentures (SpamArrest)).mbox
    INBOX.Drafts (Carneros Ventures (SpamArrest)).mbox
    Sent Messages (Carneros Ventures (SpamArrest)).mbox
They'll just be recreated if/when they are needed. Is that correct?
    Thanks,
    Chip

Drafts, ToDos (Notes), and Outbox are found normally in the Mailboxes folder but do not usually appear in the On My Mac section. As for Deleted Messages that may be a remnant from before you used an IMAP account or if you at one time configured Mailbox Behaviors in Mail preferences to keep deleted messages locally instead of on the IMAP server.

  • Notes mailbox list color is black on black

I just installed Snow Leopard and discovered that when I create a new note in Mail.app, the note shows up in the list with a fore- and background color of black.
Only new notes have this problem, my older notes show up fine (black text on white background).
I cannot find a setting to set the background color of notes in the mailbox. Although I have many rules set up, I do not have any rule that sets the background color to black, so I do not know what is causing this.
Is there a way to change the background color of notes (or messages) in a mailbox list that does not involve a rule?
    Thanks,
    -dZ.

    Wow dude, you're good.
Thanks a ton.  Something so minor made me pull my hair out today.

  • My iCloud mailboxes do not show in mail

My icloud mailboxes do not appear in mail. I have reinstalled icloud several times.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
    Envelope Index
    ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • To create a mailbox in mail the ipad manual says tap edit in the mailbox list. There is no edit in the mailbox list. How do I create a new mailbox?

To create a mailbox in mail the ipad manual says tap edit in the mailbox list. There is no edit in the mailbox list. How do I create a mailbox?

An IMAP configuration will NOT allow one to create mailboxes on one's iPad - from personal experience - one requires a POP account.  Briefly, the Apple Mail app for iOS 6 (iPad, iPhone) has no capability to add mailboxes to the original ones that are included as part of the app - if (and only if) the email account is configured as IMAP.  So... Keniff is correct: One must go to one's laptop/desktop, open a browser, and add the mailboxes desired for your IMAP account. Unfortunately, one seems to have little choice for the account configuration.  Apple's iOS does the configuration quite automatically with one's account provider. For example, my Charter mail is IMAP while my Gmail account is POP.  The latter allows edit/add for new or existing mailboxes on my iPad 2.

  • Mailbox does not show on Mailbox list on Mac

I am using Apple Mail and I recently created a new mailbox called "Pricing" on the Mac client. However, while the Mailbox/folder shows when I access it from my iphone, the Mailbox does not show on the mailbox list (left side panel) on the Mac Apple Mail client. How do I resolve this?

Under MAILBOXES left side of the Mac Mail window scroll down to the bottom of your list of mailboxes.
If you find Pricing, drag that folder up where it belongs alphabetically.

Only when i go to a different browser (like IE) after i clear it , then all that shows up is the pages i visited in IE , that is what bugs me , why is IE browsing history sowing up in Firefox ??
Basically , i can clear the history in Firefox , and then for a example , go to Craigslist , using IE7 (launching it from a complete different Icon , in other words at that time i never open Firefox) , then after closing out , or even leaving open as it does not seem to matter , i go into Firefox , and hit History , and there is every place i visited in IE7 , on my History in Firefox
