Mail marking new items as read itself

HHave recently upgraded iPhone to iOS7, and using mail app for Gmail with imap, noticing that a lot of new mail is coming in marked as read, how can I stop new items being marked as read before onset them?

Hello bgdesign and welcome to the Palm forums.
Lots of people, I'm sure are looking for this feature.  I've asked for the ability to multiselect messages too.  I don't work for Palm/HP so I have no idea when this feature might be coming to Palm webOS.
As a work around, you should be able to mark messages read in your email account when you access it from a PC and the update should sync down if you are using a Google or IMAP server.  If you are using a POP email server, I don't think that work around will work.

  • 4s marking NEW emails as 'read' as they are downloaded from server

    I've got a 4s running iOS 6.1.3. Our work email is hosted on a POP3 server but but we have to set it up on our iPhones as a IMAP because setting it up as a POP3 causes a number of other problems. The problem I am having is that my PHONE is marking new emails as 'read' when it downloads them from the server before they have ever been view. I know this problem exists on the phone because they are not marked as read on the host server. I have logged into the email account online to verify this and they are not marked as read anywhere but on my iPhone. I have two different work email accounts, a Hotmail account and 2 Gmail accounts set up on this phone. I have this problem with BOTH work accounts but none of the others. One of the work accounts has ALLLL of the new emails marked as read. Earlier today I had 20 email scome thru all at once while I had my phone in my hand. I watched them all download and then watched as one by one they were all marked as 'read' without me doing anything. I am the only one in my office having this problem and I personally set up all of their iPhones just like mine. I have no clue what is wrong or how to fix it. It is not a new problem for me as it has been going on for over a year. But this weekend I missed a very important email because I didn't receive the new mail notification. Something like this could cost me my job.

    Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox.

  • Marking all items as read

    Does anyone know when they might add a "mark all emails as read" feature? Currently, I have to go into each one separately and I would love to be able to "select all" and "mark all as read".
    Thanks!

  • Why does Mail mark all emails as read when I close it with an email open?

    If I use Mail with say, Gmail, and I open an email in Mail and then later archive all email in Gmail, then any future email that I receive are marked as "Read" in the Mail app. This appears to be because when you open an email in Mail and then it no longer exists (because it's archived) then Mail moves on to the next email, therefore marking it as read because it's opening it.
    Is this really to be expected? Is there a way for the Mail app to "reset" itself like some other apps do, once they close, rather than save the last state that the app was in?

    Does the iPhone still do this, or no longer?

  • Change E-mail content for collaboration New item

    Hello,
    We are e-mailing collaboration News items to our users. When we use "Send To" option to e-mail News as link, there are 2 default links in the e-mail. One for the news itself and the other for the Details on this News item. How can I modify the content of the e-mail so that there is only 1 link to the News item and Details link is disabled?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    I was able to identify xml form that is being used in Send To iView. The form name is SendTo.xml. The iview has the following setting:
    com_sapportals_wdf_ConfigFileName:     SendTo.xml
    I tried to find SendTo.xml in KM, but I was not able to do it. Does anyone know where it sits in KM?
    I am not sure if it is helpful, but the Code Link property has value com.sap.netweaver.coll.appl.ui.gw.SendMail.

  • Mail marks all messages as important?

    Can I change this.  Thanks.

    Exactly. If a couple has both (all) of their email accounts configured on a Mac running Mavericks, so that they can both check their email on that Mac…..
    Mavericks Mail will mark ALL copies of an email as read in ALL email accounts configured on that Mac, regardless of which account “reads” the email. Worse yet, it does matter what email server(s) host those accounts. If those email accounts are on an iMAP email server, the messages will appear as read on all other devices configured with any of those accounts — i.e. the email will appear as read on any other Mac, iPad, iPhone, PC….
    And as you noted, marking the email as unread only effects that one account. In other words, Mail marks the message as read in all accounts configured on a Mac when you read it in any account. But subsequently marking it as unread in that account, does NOT mark it as unread in any other account.
    So a considerate spouse should check the email header of every email they read, to see if the address list contains their spouses email account(s) and go to that account to mark it as unread. Or they can sleep on the couch that night — their choice:(
    Note: Mail in iOS 7 on the iPhone/iPad does NOT work this way. It only marks the email as read in the account where it was actually read.
    BTW This is just one of many inconsistencies in how Apple’s basic applications (e.g. Mail, Calendars, Contacts, etc.) function in Mavericks - Mac vs iOS7 - iPhone vs iOS7 - iPad. And most of these inconsistencies can not be easy explained away based on screen size or mouse/keyboard vs touch interface. You really have to wonder whether these Apple software development teams ever really talk to one another.

  • Why is Mail showing new messages when nothings there?

    I decided to delete the Apple RSS feed from my mail, and suddenly the mail icon on shows 17 new messages (the same amount that were present in the RSS feed when it was deleted) and I don't know how to get it to stop showing it.
    This is really ******* me off because I never wanted a RSS feed in the first place, now that I get rid of it, I'm stuck with this huge red "17" on my mail icon.
    So can somebody tell me how to get rid of it?

    Nevermind. For some reason when I attempted to quit mail, the new messages dissappeared.

  • Can't find a 'phantom' unread mail or mark it as being read

    I'm using mail on various machines to access an Exchange server account. It generally works with no problems, but on my work MacPro (and only on this computer not the iMac at home, various laptops, iPad, iPhone etc) mail tells me there is an unread message. However, I can't find this message and it's not there when I use a webmail interface to access the same account. No problem, I figured I could just right click on the mailbox and 'mark all messages as read', but this doesn't work! I like to keep a clear inbox with no unread messages and it's driving me nuts!
    I'm guessing that there's some strange synching conflict, but don't know how to solve it. Any ideas, please?
    Thanks, Jon.

    I tried both, but neither has worked.
    a) Rebuilding the mailbox revealed another unread mail that actually existed, but didn't remove the 'phantom'.
    b) The SM trick uncovered lots of unread news items from Apple, but not the 'phantom'.
    Thanks for your help, but I might need to do something more drastic like deleting the account and adding it again.
    Thanks, Jon.

  • Maverick 10.9.2 - Mail not marking Gmail emails as read when marked as such in Gmail website

    Since upgrading to 10.9.x, I have been having issues with OSX Mail application such that it is not marking emails as read when I have done so in Gmail website.
    Example:
    1). Received a new email in my Gmail account
    2). In mail.google.com, the email is shown as "New"
    3). In the Apple Mail application in my MacBook Air (MBA), the email is shown as "New"
    4). In mail.google.com, I opened the email, which is now marked as read (NOT new)
    5). In the Apple Mail application, the email is STILL shown as "New".
    I have tried syncing the Mail app, pressing "Go Offline", and leaving the Mail app open for hours, but no go.
    HOWEVER, if after step #4 above, I CLOSE the Mail app and opened it again, the Mail app will detect the change and immediately marked the same email as read (NOT new).
    It seems that the Mail app having trouble syncing with Gmail and marking read email as...well, read.
    My configuration:
    1). OSX 10.9.2
    2). Three (3) Gmail accounts configured using IMAP
    Anyone know the workaround to this?

    No one using Apple's own Mail program with Gmail?

  • How do you set Mail to mark a message as "read" only when you open it

    I'm using Apple Mail. Works great, but I have one big issue I can't figure out. I want my messages to be marked as read ONLY if I double click or actually physically open the message....not when I click it once with the mouse or if it gets selected in the inbox message pane. The way it's set up, all my mail is read the minute I click on it. This is extremely annoying and I can't find anywhere where you can set this preference. HELP.
    does this make sense to anybody??
    OSX Tiger 10.4.7

    The OP's question makes sense and Scott's comment is correct. You can have Mail setup so that there is the list of folders on the left, the list of emails in that folder in the top right hand side and the selected message in the pane below that on the lower right hand side. In that case clicking on a message in the list of messages will display it below and Mail will deem you to have read it. On the other hand if you drag down the divider and get rid of the pane in which the message displays then selecting it does not mark it read. Double-clicking it should bring it up in a new window and cause the message to be marked read.
    Basically Mail marks the message read when it has displayed (some of) the message in some place (ie a separate window or the lower right hand side pane) where you could have read it

  • E-Mail Notification with https link to new item

    Hi all,
    we have a vibe 3.4 system and want to use the e-mail notification features so all in our team will get those status messages.
    Generally this feature works and we get mail. The problem is that the links in the mail to the new item starts with http://... not https:/xxx.
    How can this be configured so the links use secure https to the items??
    kind regards,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
    Does your system already use secure HTTP urls(HTTPS) when anyone accesses the site? If yes, then for emails you just need to configure at one place. Follow the steps below (but make sure to take proper backups before you do. I am just extracting the steps mentioned in Vibe Documentation, which can be read online as well here https://www.novell.com/documentation.../bju0gr2.html#. If all the configurations are made already, then just scroll down to the section: Defaulting to Secure HTTP URLs in E-Mail Notifications)
    Defaulting to Secure HTTP URLs in E-Mail Notifications
    When an e-mail notification is sent from Vibe, Vibe includes a URL to the location on the Vibe site where the notification was sent. By default, the URLs in e-mail notifications are formed with http rather than https. You can reconfigure Vibe to default to https for Vibe site URLs.
    Log in to the Vibe server with sufficient rights to edit the ssf-ext.properties file (root on Linux, Administrator on Windows).
    Change to the following directory:
    Linux:
    /opt/novell/teaming/apache-tomcat/
    webapps/ssf/WEB-INF/classes/config
    Windows:
    c:\Program Files\Novell\Teaming\apache-tomcat\
    webapps\ssf\WEB-INF\classes/config
    Open the ssf.properties file in a text editor.
    Locate and copy the following line:
    ssf.secure.links.in.email=false
    Close the ssf.properties file without saving.
    Make a backup copy of the ssf-ext.properties file, located in the same directory with the ssf.properties file.
    Open the ssf-ext.properties file in a text editor.
    Paste the line that you copied in Step 4 to the bottom of the file:
    ssf.secure.links.in.email=false
    Change false to true so that the line now looks like this:
    ssf.secure.links.in.email=true
    Save the ssf-ext.properties file, then exit the text editor
    Restart Vibe to put the change into effect.
    All system-generated e-mail notifications now default to secure HTTP URLs. However, all user-generated e-mails from the Vibe system follow the current users context. For example, if a user is logged in as HTTP and chooses to share an entry with another user, the link in the e-mail notification uses HTTP.
    Regards,
    Saad.

  • [Exchange-Online][EWS][C#][Windows]: How do I mark all mails in a folder as read?

    Hi,
    I'm developing a C# application in Visual Studio 2013 Pro Update 2 to query an Exchange Online mailbox folder and read mails into my CRM solution. I can connect without a problem, read mails without a problem, mark individual emails as read without a problem,
    etc. but I don't seem to be able to mark all emails in a specific folder as being un/read.
    I can see that in Exchange 2013 that the following code would do the trick, but it doesn't work for Exchange Online:-
    Folder folder = Folder.Bind(service,folderID);
    folder.MarkAllItemsAsRead(true);
    To mark an individual mail as being read I'm using this code:-
    public void MarkAsRead(ExchangeService exchangeService, ItemId itemID)
    Item mess = Item.Bind(exchangeService, itemID);
    EmailMessage message = mess as EmailMessage;
    message.IsRead = true;
    message.Update(ConflictResolutionMode.AlwaysOverwrite);
    Does anyone know if Exchange Online has a method to mark all mails as read and if so, how do I call it?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    I should probably say that when attempting to call the MarkAllItemsAsRead() method from my code I get the following error:-

  • How to prevent mail app on OS X & iOS from automatically marking email messages as read just when they are selected either intentionally or not

    Good morning guys
    is there a way to prevent mail app on OS X & iOS from automatically marking email messages as read just when they are selected either intentionally or not
    thanks

    On OS X, You are able to hide the preview window on the right in normal mode, or on the lower side in classic mode, by simply putting your cursor on the thin bar which is in between, and then make it as small as possible, so it goes away.
    Then your messages won't be automatically read when clicked once, but only if you click them twice and a new window with the message opens.
    Also, you are able to mark them as unread again, which is a silly workaround, but possible.
    You can do that by right clicking and select 'Mark as...' -> unread.
    On iOS, I'm not sure..

  • Mail not marking messages/conversations as read correctly

    Dear All,
    I recently got rid of Outlook for Mac (too buggy) and came back to Mail (much improved during my absence ). I have an Exchange account, plus a GMail and a iCloud. I use Mountain Lion from a Mac Mini and a Macbook Pro, and they both show the same problem.
    The problem is the following (occurs at least on the Exchange account - probably also on the others, but I use them less, so I am not 100% sure at the moment):
    1. Certain messages are not marked as read after viewing, and they keep showing as Unread until I mark them as read manually.
    2. in addition to that, when messages are grouped by conversation, the conversations containing some of such messages, in their "collapsed" form, often do not show the last message received as you expect, but some older message - which makes the risk of marking the conversation as read by mistake much more likely, even if there are some truly unread messages in it. You just see an old message/conversation showing as unread, so you just mark it as read, and miss all newer messages. This has already caused a couple of incidents at work, and it's only one week I came back to Mail.
    For problem 1. I have seen other threads in Apple Support Communities, but sadly, all the "solutions" are just workarounds - close and reopen Mail, deactivate and reactivate the mail account, mark manually, and so on - I know they work, but the problem is always there, and my guestimate is that it affects 5-10% of the emails I receive, which implies a continuous annoyance, given the number of email we all receive nowadays.
    So, I am looking for some real solution, not the usual workarounds which actually do not resolve much. Please please please, spare me the shame to come back to Outlook - I will be grateful forever
    Thank you,
    Alfonso

    So it seems nobody has an answer... I have to enjoy marking messages as read manually all day...
