Mail Message Import Hanging in Max OSX 10.8

I have just purchased a new iMac and cannot import my mail messages. It is hanging on 920 of 14000 each time. Does anyone know how to overcome this problem? I have read through some of the threads on this and tried some of the recommendations but am now close to throwing my new mac out of the window in frustration! Can anyone help? Many thanks

  • Mountain Lion Mail "Message Import" Won't Finish

Upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday from Lion, had massive issues with SystemUIServer freezing the system, so I wiped the hard drive and did a fresh install of Mountain Lion. After using migration assistant to move stuff over from a Time Machined external HD, the Mail upgrade halts at around 26000 emails. This happened in 10.8.0 and after I upgraded to 10.8.1.
This is what I've been staring out for about 6 hours (cancelled, restarted, rebooted, etc).

Bet you upgraded from Snow Leopard. The scanner software you have installed is likely PPC but could run in Snow Leopard, which was the last version of Mac OS X that supported it, rather than just Intel software.
I'd suggest going to the Epson website and getting Mountain Lion compatible drivers from their Drivers and Support page. They will be for Intel Macs such as yours.

  • Javax.mail.message.recipienttype not found

    Hi,
I use jdev10g and i want to send a mail message.
Here's a little snip of my class for sending a mail.
Jdeveloper gives me a error about Message.RecipientType.TO.
"Member 'RecipientType' not found in javax.mail.Message"
    import javax.mail.Message;
    message.addRecipient(Message.RecipientType.TO,
    new InternetAddress(to));
    I've installed the javamail-1.1.3 API.
In my project properties -> libraries, i've added this library with the correct path to the jar file.
I'm sure that this API have this Message class.
What is going wrong, have i missed something ???

    Hi! Srikanth,
    1. I checked MailerEJB.deploy under "Dependency Analyzer",
    I checked activation.jar and mail.jar under the J2EE node.
I did the same for the MailerJSP.deploy.
    2. I used same jdeveloper version and jdk 1.3.1_06.
    3. I did a clean deploy for the ejb and mailerjsp.deploy
    4. I recompiled and run the jpr,
from the message window, I got:
    C:\jdeveloper\jdk\bin\javaw.exe -ojvm -classpath C:\oc4j\samples\ejb\EJBCallsJSP\classes;C:\oc4j\samples\ejb\EJBCallsJSP;C:\jdeveloper\jdev\lib\jdev-rt.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\lib\activation.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\lib\ejb.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\lib\jaas.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\lib\jaxp.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\lib\jcert.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\lib\jdbc.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\lib\jms.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\lib\jndi.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\lib\jnet.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\lib\jsse.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\lib\jta.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\lib\mail.jar;C:\jdeveloper\j2ee\home\oc4j.jar;C:\jdeveloper\jdbc\lib\classes12.jar;C:\jdeveloper\jdbc\lib\nls_charset12.jar oracle.otnsamples.ejbcallsjsp.mailclient.MailClientSample
I didn't see any error from this message window.
    5. The no provider for smtp error is prompted from the mail client.
From above settings and running the application, I couldn't figure out where the error was coming from ?
    Thanks

  • Mail Messages Suddenly Blank!

New messages display properly, but about 1 hour ago for no reason my older messages are just showing up as blank. It's almost as if it can't find where they are whats happened? When I double click the message just BLANK!!

This problem is most probably related to indexing messages and you can simply solve it by following these steps :
    (1) Quit Mail if it's already open
    (2) Copy your ~/Library/Mail folder to your desktop as a backup incase something goes wrong
    (3) Trash or move to desktop that file ~/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    (4) Open Mail and you will be presented with a Mail Message Import message, click continue and let it do what it has to to
That would simply import and reindex all mail messages rebuilding the database, Envelope Index is a SQLite database that stores key information about your emails. Over time it can get corrupted in a way that wouldn't knock out your Mail application. Furthermore, that should speed you your Mail application and dramatically reduce your emails size. I hopt that will solve your issue

  • Mail Message Restore Stuck after completing a full system restore

I just completed a full system restore on my Macbook Pro using the "Restore From Backups" function. Upon the first boot up, I was greeted with a "Mail Message Import" Dialog Box asking to import my messages. It began importing alot of my folders but then became stuck on the "Deleted Messages" folder with 4500 out of 7000 messages already imported. The progress bar sits and never moves and the Time remaining amount begins to increase and increase. I have the option to cancel and if I do cancel and attempt to open Mail again, then I must complete the process over again. Ultimately becoming stuck at the same point of the import process each time.
    FYI
I have 5 email accounts set up (one iMap) on this machine.
Where is this being imported from?
Can I point it to another backup directory?
    Any Help is much appreciated.
    THanks,

Thanks Man! That WOrked!!!!! Your the best! and Thank you for those Kind words! Happy MacBooking!!

  • 10.6.2 Update Mail import hangs

I recently updated to 10.6.2.  When I opened Mail it did the usual "Welcome to Mail... to use the new features in Mail, your existing Mail messages need to be imported into the new version the first time you use Mail."  This is usually no problem, but for some reason, this time around it hangs at Message 2905 and will not continue... I've left it for an hour and it just keeps increasing the time remaining to complete.  I don't know what to do, there is no option to skip message and I cannot use Mail until it completes... canceling just quits Mail and it starts all over when I re-open.  Anyone else had this issue?

I noticed that it said what mailbox it was currently importing at the top.  The Mailbox "2010" was where it obviously had a corrupted message and it hung at the same spot every time. I searched inside the mail folder for it and found the mailbox, deleted it, and it was successful this time around.  Luckily, it was a small mailbox with nothing I necessarily needed in it.  I could have gone thru each message one at a time to find the offending message if I had to, it would be nice if there is a hang Apple would ask if you want to skip importing the offending message.

  • Can I import tables, etc. created elsewhere into my mail messages?

Here's what I'd like to do. I want to create some simple lists in Numbers or Pages in the form of a table. I would then like to import that into the message body of a message in Mail. I've tried to cut and paste, but that just ends up with a jarbled mess. Any gurus out there know how to import iWork content into a Mail message? Thanks!

While your advice is well taken my current problem is a bit simple. I have 3  e mails that I would like to add to my Mail program on my computer. Getting them from gmail to mail is the issue. My gmail account is some years old and if I switch from POP to IMAP all the stuff I deleted from Mail will return as I never deleted it from Gmail. That is my actual dilemma as Gmail now holds thousands of emails.
3 emails? mail them to yourself, move them from the inbox to the sent box when they arrive

I tried installing Iphoto it said it was downloaded successfully. I still get the error messafe, and can not open any photos of program,  any suggestions?

What version of iPhoto do you have on the Macbook and on the iMac? What systems are you running on the Macbook and on the iMac?
Does the message only refer to "a problem" or does it specify what it is?

  • Mail stops importing after 500 messages. (From mbox formattedfile)

    Hi,
using snow leopard, standard mail app.
when importing a unix-style mbox file into mail, it stops after 500 messages. There are some 2700 mails in the mbox file.
Any idea if this is a build-in limitation ?
Can this be configured to allow more then the initial 500 mail messages ?

This is a problem for which I've yet not found a solution when it happens. Another user recently reported being able to solve it by deleting some caches. Problem is, I have no idea what caches could have a bearing on this. If you want to try that, take a look at the following article:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
and be sure to read this in particular:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
In addition to the utilities mentioned there, you may also consider OnyX or Cache Out X, which are free.
Rather than blindly deleting every cache from your system, I encourage you to be somewhat selective, in order to be able to find out which cache could be involved in the problem, if any. Note that no applications other than the cache-cleaning utility should be running during the cache-cleaning operation, and that you should restart after each attempt before checking whether it makes a difference. Please, post back with your observations.

  • Messages imported from other Mac Mail accounts are empty

I took great care in making sure my business mail over the past several years was preserved on my G4. A separate folder was created for incoming and sent messages for each year, and each year I kept the folders from the previous year online in Mail for easy access. I moved the folders from past years into an 'archive' folder inside User/Library/Mail, but not within /Mailboxes. If I had a need to refer to messages from another year, all I had to do was move the appropriate folder back into /Mailboxes, and Mail would open it and there my messages would be, completely intact. The entire Mail folder was backed up every night onto an external Firewire drive.
And everything was just fine. Or so I thought. After the power supply in my G4 fried last week, I had to migrate everything over to my MacBook. While the Mail import of over 5GB worth of messages went without a problem, I just now had a need to refer to messages from earlier this year. The mailbox lists all of them, including sender, date and time, but the message pane is EMPTY, completely void of any text whatsoever. Every message that was imported... over the past FIVE YEARS is now GONE. Finder still claims the Mailbox folder contains 5.28GB of content, but if the message panes are without text, what's taking up 5.28GB of space?
    Anyone?

My panicked and frustrated posting was due to the fact that under OS 10.4.11, Mail Help was as empty as the mail messages I described. There was no content.
But I was pleasantly surprised to find that under OS 10.5.8, Mail Help provided the answer by explaining how to get Mail to reindex the messages. This solved the problem.

  • Importing Mail Messages with .emix extensions

Inadvertently I copied all my 8,000 older email messages into a folder thinking
I could copy the old messages into a new folder into mail on my other Mac. When I try to copy these .emix messages, it will not allow me. When I try to IMPORT these messages from mail, I cannot highlight the mail box to import.
I am able to read these messages when I open each one up individually.
Does anybody have any idea's of how I can get the 1.5gb of email messages into my new computer. I do not have any of the older plist files from the host computers library. I only have the folder with 8,000 .emix mail messages.
    Help!

    Rob,
I only have the folder with 8,000 .emix mail messages
If you put those messages in an correctly named folder hierarchy, Mail should be able to import them fine:
    → Import.mbox
    →→ Messages
    →→→ 1.emlx
    →→→ 2.emlx
    →→→ …
    →→→ ###.emlx
(the actual numbers don't matter - no need to renumber them from what you have)
You should then be able to point Mail's import function to the folder containing the folder "Import.mbox" and in the next step can select a mailbox called "Import"
(If this does not work, you can also move the "Import.mbox" hierarchy as described above into ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes and quit and restart Mail. You will then see a new local mailbox called "Import" which is initially empty. After selecting "Mailbox → Rebuild" from the menu you should see your messages appear)

  • Trouble importing mail messages

After some software trouble (repaired by Apple technitions) I now need to import my Mail messages back into the Mail program but the process does not move beyond the second scree "Preparing to import messages". I waited a better part of 40 minutes without any change.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.
