Mail Message not visible without scrollbar

When I am typing a new message in Mail, the message goes off the right side of the screen and I can't see it without moving the scroll bar at the bottom to the right.  This just started happening.  I don't like this and want to see my whole message as I type.  What did I do?

OK, I've had a look round the net and I've found the answer.
It occurred to me that I'd had the WideMail plug-in installed, and that Mail 4.0 disabled it it. I wondered if that had caused the problem. Sure enough, on the site the the author of WebMail there's this:
http://www.daneharnett.com/widemail/?p=29
That fixed it for me.

  • Opened mail messages not visible on screen

all of a sudden, when I open a mail message from my inbox, or any other mailbox, the message opens up on the top left side of my screen, but is only partially visible. I am unable to drag the message back into the center of the screen. Although I can click on and drag the bottom, right hand corner, that only increases the size of the message window, but does not unhide the rest of the message and the message header from the top, right hand side.
additionally, when I click on mail preferences, or about mail, the related info is no longer visible on the screen.
The mail inbox however, is fully visible.
thanks for any help with this.

quit Mail and start it again. is it still doing this? if so your Mail preferences are likely corrupt. quit Mail and delete (or move to the desktop) the file ~/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. ~ means your home directory. you can get to it by clicking on the house icon in the sidebar of any finder window or by going to /users/username.
then start Mail. you'll have to recreate all your email accounts so make sure you know all their settings. once recreated they will recognize their existing mailboxes. see if Mail behaves after that.
Alternatively, if you have a backup, restore com.apple.mail.plist from backup from before the problems with Mail started. Mail should not be running when you do this.

  • New mail messages not visible--"detected corrupt database" related?

I am using Mail.app and an iPod Touch with an Exchange server (Intermedia). All of a sudden in the last few days, recent mail on the server is not visible using Mail.app or the iPod Touch. I have deleted the mail accounts on both devices twice and done an entirely fresh download of all mail on both, and the problem persists.
Mail in the Inbox is visible. However, if I move an Inbox message to, say, Archive or Travel, then it becomes invisible--even though it is intact on the server and in its proper location there.
I have also repaired permissions and run sudo daily/weekly/monthly maintenance processes, to no avail.
In the console, I see the following error message. Could this be related and is there a way to fix it?
Jul 17 11:14:36 xxx-xxxx-macbook Mail[108]: ISyncDataDirectoryCorruptedException: detected corrupt database while executing delete from Record

Update: all messages are viewable in Entourage Exchange Web Services 2008, but not in Apple Mail, or in Mail on my iPod Touch, or after a new download of all mail on another Mac in Mail.app. Why is Entourage able to see all the messages while all the Apple Mail clients are missing them?

  • Mail messages not visible after importing from entourage

I received confirmation that messages have been imported sucessfully from entourage and the imported folders have unread messages sitting in the folders. However when i try to open folder it is empty. Can anybody help?
I am running mail 2.0.5. I thought the best solution would be to reload mail application again but i cannot locate download for mail application.

I need help also - to anyone out there - after importing the data from Entourage, in addition to missing messages, my mail.app is now running so slow (both downloading messages and opening messages).
The mail.app "Help" is also not opening up.
I wanted to re-load the software also to see if it will correct everything but do not know where to get the application from - is this the best thing to do or what alternatives are there?
    Thanks,
    gailp

  • Is07 backgound too bright in mail, messages, notes, calendar

Hello!  I just upgraded to is07 and the bright white background in the iphone apps like mail, messages, notes, and calendar is hard on my eyes.  How can we change this to a darker background?  Thank you!

    Matthew,
I don't correspond with anyone using Lotus. Are you using a POP account, or IMAP account with this server?
I am not very expectant of this helping, but open one of these messages, and then click on Message in the Menubar, and in its pull-down place the cursor on Text Encodings, and try some choices, other than Automatic. Test first with Unicode at the bottom of the list, and then with Western (Mac Mail). Let us know if this alters anything.
Next, after opening such a message, click on View, place the cursor on Message, and choose Raw Source -- is the text of the message now readable?

  • Unread messages not visible.

New user of Macs - about a fortnight, and having issues, not so much with using the MacBook, but trying to work out why and where to find things. Latest issue which started this morning is on downloading messages from my POP3 account, I get 3 unread messages, but not visible anywhere. I read through the other discussions and checked my mail folder in library and found the messages, which were legit, not spam. Moved them to trash and checked the count on the inbox and they had gone. Later in the day i logged in again and have a similar message of x messages, 3 unread - mail folder in the library has different messages this time. Also with the unread messages comes (but not always) and blank header - so there is a dot in the first column to indicate a new message but the remainder of the line is blank, and the preview pane tells me to go to the server to read the message - however there is nothing in webmail server, inbox is empty since it has all been downloaded to MacBook.
    Any thoughts or hints?

The problem is probably that the mailbox has lost the .mbox suffix in the filesystem, but you appear to have introduced new issues by tinkering with the contents of ~/Library/Mail/ without taking the index into consideration...
Report the names of the files and folders present at the first level of the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder in the Finder.
In order to post the exact file names and avoid typing mistakes, proceed as follows. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/. With that folder open, if you’re looking at it in View > as List mode, first collapse any expanded folders so that the Finder only shows the files and folders at the first level. Now, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Send Outgoing Mail Messages not working

I'm having trouble with a workflow that creates a new mail message, gets specified iCal items, creates a summary text file, attaches to mail message and then sends mail message. Everything is working except the mail message does not get sent. There are no logged error messages. I've experimented with changing up the order of the actions and noticed that when I place "Send Outgoing Messages" directly after "New Mail Message", the message gets sent without a problem. However in order for my workflow to make sense I need to have many intermediary steps before I trigger the send messages action.
Any clues on this problem. Thanks in advance.
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm relatively new to Automator as well and by no means a programmer. It does seem that the iCal actions available are pretty meager. I did a search at www.automatorworld.com and there are a few additional actions but none that call out specific menu items.
Another way to approach your desired workflow is to create an applescript that selects Export... from the File Menu. I know very little beyond the basics of applescript but I did cobble together the following:
    tell application "iCal" to activate
    tell application "System Events"
    tell application process "iCal"
    set frontmost to true
click menu item "Export…" of menu 1 of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1
    delay 4
    tell application "System Events"
    keystroke return
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell
Here's the weird part. This script works, but only sporadically. Sometimes it stalls at the selection of the Export button in the dialog box. I have no idea why it sometimes works and other times fails.
If someone could refine this script to make it bullet proof than you can simply incorporate it as an automator workflow and then save the created export file to another volume or anywhere you like.
    Hope this helps some.

  • Voice Mail Messages not reaching e-mail boxes

I have an Exchange 2010 server and a Panasonic phone system with voice mail. Until recently my users could transfer voice mail messages to their e-mail as an attached WAV file.  I have not made any significant changes that should affect this functionality.
I worked with a voice system technician who verified that the messages are being created and sent by the VM System. However, they are no longer being delivered to the users e-mail box.
I checked to make sure that the password is correct for the mail account, I have white listed the voicemail system in the Exchange Server, and I have tested e-mail to and from the special e-mail account established for this purpose and all seem to work correctly.
I am wondering if there is some new security requirement or SPAM filter in Exchange which might be getting in the way.

    See:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124531(v=exchg.141).aspx
By default, the Receive connector protocol log files are located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\TransportRoles\Logs\ProtocolLog\SmtpReceive, and the Send connector protocol log files are located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\TransportRoles\Logs\ProtocolLog\SmtpSend.
The directory must be local to the Exchange 2010 computer.
If Exchange received the message, you can also check message tracking on the Exchange Server.

  • Mail messages not moving to trash seemingly until reopening Mail

I have posted about mail messages disappearing after moving them between mailboxes (a nightmare!).  I tried several things, deleting preferences, rebuilding mailboxes, etc. The particular dissappearing message symptom is yet to reappear.
However, yesterday the prelude behavior returned.... when I delete a message, it remains in the inbox. I have to quit and restart mail for it to be moved to the trash. It matters not whether I use the delete key on the highlighted message, use the trash tool button, or the "move to trash" command in the "Message" menu. There is other weird associated behavior with the highlighting of a particular message jumping arround (if other messages were unsuccessfully deleted) when this happens too.
I also have the funky search problems in Mail others have described (sometimes working, sometime not).
All this started with Mavericks.... what a mess. Any ideas on a fix... what we need here is a serious software fix from Apple!!!!!!

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Some mail messages not showing content after upgrade to Yosemite

I have just upgraded my system software to Yosemite and Have found that some of my mail messages are not displaying their content. I have closed and re-opened Mail and also taken all mailboxes offline and back online but the problem still persists.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

    Hi Illaass,
I've already rebuilt the mailbox several times. I have run disk utility, started my masc in 'safe mode', reset the PRAM and finally re-installed Yosemite again. This didn't solve the problem. I started my mac in 'safe mode' one more time today and than restarted my mac and the problem appears to have been sorted. However, I'm not sure if the problem will re-occur if I shut down my mac tonight and restart in the morning1

  • Mail body not visible

Recently (foloowing IOS 5.1 upgrade?) the mail program has stopped showing the mail message body (unless I reply or forward). Any ideas on how to fix?

Try closing the Mail app completely and see if you can view the email text when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then do a reset and see if they show after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Instant messages NOT VISIBLE on one computer

When someone instant messages me (I can see the little pencil writing), the message is not visible on my PC.  Oddly, the message IS visible on my Mac.  I must have made some strange alteration in my settings so that messages aren't visible.  How did I do it and what do I do?  Many thanks in advance.   Ken

I imagine you have more than likely changed your text colour(color) to white.
I have not been able to reproduce your issue in tools>options.
This is very similar to another thread thoug:

    I recommend following those instructions.

  • Inbox messages not visible after reading since Yosemite conversion

Since I upgraded to Yosemite on January 3rd, my Apple mail app is misbehaving. When I get new messages from gmail, they show up in the Inbox, Unread and Today mail folders but not in the overall Inbox folder. After they are read, they disappear from Inbox and Unread (of course) and are lost in the ether. If I search mail for a specific message, it finds it and indicates its either in an Important folder or  in Inbox-Gmail but it is in neither. Otherwise the message doesn't show up in Mail at all. Also the mail remains on the gmail server when I access it directly on the web.
I've tried to synchronize the mail accounts but nothing changes.
I also turned on iCloud and iDrive at the same time.
A commentator responding to my question reports
Apple Mail is not displaying the Exchange or G-mail inbox properly. I tested this with 2 systems: 1 on Mavericks and 1 on Yosemite.           The Mavericks mail worked correctly and the Yosemite would stop displaying the inbox. I was able to perform operations (read, flag, delete, move) messages on the Mavericks system and the actions would correctly show on the Yosemite system once I re-synced the mail application. Furthermore, I only needed to click on my iCloud-based account and then go back to my Exchange account for the inbox to be displayed properly. However, after about 30-45 seconds it would again stop displaying.    I how this helps and that Apple can fix this annoying bug soon."

I can only see messages for my Exchange account if I'm looking at the "all Inboxes" in the left column. Otherwise all folders (and not just the Inbox) for my Exchange account has the problem. Once stuff is read, everything vanishes a few moments later.
It looks like Gmail and iCloud accounts also set up in Mail seem to be okay. It seems to be only my Exchange account.
I've been having to do email stuff on my iOS devices.

  • Apple Mail will not work without webmail login

Spontaneously 2 weeks ago I got a triangle next to my Apple Mail Inbox and could neither send nor receive email. I have used ATT for DSL and my email address for over two years without this problem. I have checked all my settings with ATT and they claim they have even "rebuilt" my mailbox and all is good. But unless I use a browser to log into webmail first, Mail will not work. The user name/password/port info is all correct, but Mail cannot connect. Even when the "keep me logged in" box is checked when I log in to webmail, Mail will stop working if I close out the browser and put the computer to sleep. This is driving me crazy.

I've had what sounds very similar issue with another DSL ISP: Qwest.
Ran both Comcast & Qwest simultaneously (alternately, not really concurrently)
for awhile & got sporadic blips & failures to connect.
I never could establish conclusively whether it was the ISP, or a local client problem.
I think its the ISP. Had other email annoyances with them that never quite got resolved
Sometimes my mail was left on the webmail server & never got delivered & would do so, same as you describe.
Its never anyone's fault, or problem...
I doubt they'd tell you if it was an issue on their end, if it not resolved.
