Mail messages appear blank

All mail in arbitrary mail folders appear to have no message body (even though I know they do). I have tried deleting the Envelope files in my ~/Library/Mail folder, as I have seen suggested elsewhere, but (after importing) this does not fix the problem. It has, however, succeeded in quadruplicating each message!
Any other ideas?

I finally solved this by backing up my ~/Library/Mail directory, then removing it from ~/Library, as well as deleting everything in ~/Library/Preferences that began with com.apple.mail-. Then relaunching Mail, recreating all my accounts and slowly, slowly importing all the backups one-by-one.
I solved the duplication problems using Mail Scripts: http://homepage.mac.com/aamann/Mail_Scripts.html
All in all, the process took about 5 hours for a combined 18,000 messages (not including all the duplicates).
Time I could have spent better! :/

My mail messages are blank after upgrading to OS X Mavericks. How do I fix this??

Hi, I had this same problem. I have a load of work subfolders and was showing the message header but no content. I think it lost the link to the original messages.
There may be a simpler way but I fixed it by going to the mail folders in finder. I took the following steps:
Go to user library (hold down the alt key whilst clicking the Go menu in finder to access user library)
Go to user/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes. You should be able to see your mailboxes and your original messages (ending .emlx) after clicking down the hierachy in each mailbox. For some reason mail added a "-2" onto the end of each mailbox which I think has caused the problem.
Copy each required mailbox (.mbox) onto desktop. I removed the "-2" at this stage to clean things up.
    In Mail, choose File/Import Mailboxes....
Import data from: Apple Mail. Click continue, navigate to desktop and choose the relevant .mbox folders. Click Choose.
It should then import the mail to a new folder called import in mail. You can then rename that folder or move the subfolders out.
I moved the .mbox folders on my desktop to my documents folder as a backup just in case. I then deleted the problem mailboxes from the finders mailboxes folder.
Problem solved - for me anyway!!
    Hope this helps.

  • Mail message is blank.

Even after the update 10.5.1 some mail messages send by a PC user are completely empty, I thought.
But when I look at the version there is a message. When I dig into the /library/mail/mailboxxes and then look for the messages folder and do a quicklook on the .emlx file the message is shown. Not empty at all. Does anyone have solution?

I don't have a specific reply, but the same sort of problem. E-mail messages sent from someone else with a G5 with Leopard 10.5.1, using a pop e-mail server, come up completely blank! But all my other messages from various other sources, including PCs from the same pop e-mail server are fine. The same person has also tried sending me a message from their machine with their .Mac account and I can see that e-mail just fine.
Also, ALL of my e-mails do not show me the header information. I have to run the mouse over the header area and click on the drop-down arrow that appears to view who has sent the e-mail, and to whom it was addressed!
Can anyone help me with this? I am currently at a loss of how to take care of this!
    Thanks!

  • Mail Messages Suddenly Blank!

New messages display properly, but about 1 hour ago for no reason my older messages are just showing up as blank. It's almost as if it can't find where they are whats happened? When I double click the message just BLANK!!

This problem is most probably related to indexing messages and you can simply solve it by following these steps :
    (1) Quit Mail if it's already open
    (2) Copy your ~/Library/Mail folder to your desktop as a backup incase something goes wrong
    (3) Trash or move to desktop that file ~/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    (4) Open Mail and you will be presented with a Mail Message Import message, click continue and let it do what it has to to
That would simply import and reindex all mail messages rebuilding the database, Envelope Index is a SQLite database that stores key information about your emails. Over time it can get corrupted in a way that wouldn't knock out your Mail application. Furthermore, that should speed you your Mail application and dramatically reduce your emails size. I hopt that will solve your issue

  • E-mail messages appear, then disappear.

I've been having e-mail messages show up in the inbox then disappear. It's been happening for months. I use a lot of rules and folders.
    Steps I've taken:
    – Rebuilt every mailbox in Mail
    – Today I deleted the Envelope Index but the problem keeps happening
    – Contacted SpamSieve to see if it might be their add-on (they don't think it is)
I archive all of my e-mail at Gmail so I can see that every day a few messages get through but don't turn up in my inbox. Any suggestions? Are there some more things like the Envelope Index that I can trash and hope for a fix?

Gmail can only access from a server that supports POP3 -- .Mac does this, but conceptually it is counter to the philosophy of an IMAP account, which with Mail you have set your .Mac account to be.
In setting up Gmail to access an account (remember it does so as POP) you have a selection of whether to leave messages on the server or not, and furthermore the instructions for such Gmail access talk about the possibility of too many messages on the server. But that concept is based upon the server being a POP server. Yours is set up to operate as an IMAP account, and in an IMAP account all messages and indeed the entire Inbox resides on the server. If a message were removed from the server it would be removed from the Inbox you are expecting to view in Mail on your Mac. The symptom would be just like a "winking out", as Mail remembers the message was once there, but suddenly it is gone!
Access via Gmail is just like accessing from another email client or device.

I can drag them out but I'd like to know if anyone else has this issue. Thanks

  • Mail message appearing and then quickly disappearing

I keep seeing alerts for email messages pop up in the top right corner of my screen. They disappear before I can even see who they are from. When I check my inbox, there's nothing. Nothing in junk mail or any other folder either.
I am getting email alerts for the emails that do end up in my inbox, but these alerts that appear and then quickly disappear are driving me nuts. There are a few forums I'm a part of and other services I use like eBay that I am not receiving emails from at all (except password reset types of emails).
My guess is that Mail is deciding that these emails are junk and filtering them, but I have no idea where they are going or how to stop this.
    Any ideas?

I'm not sure this will work, but try disabling Mail alerts in Notifications, log out/in, and then set them back up.

  • Why mail messages appear bigger when sent?

    Hello,
When I send an e-mail from Mail, some parts of the signature and the text appear in 16 instead of 12 as set in preferences. It looks normal when I right it but then when someone reply to me I can see that some of the text is bigger that what it is expected to be. (OS X 10.8.3)
This is really looking unprofessional and I am desperate to find a solution.
    Thanks in advance.

I just had a flash and did a search for the sent messages, I found them in another accoun's sent folder.  I am not sure why but it seems to be related to the fact that the other account (That received the sent mail) has my first account's address as a possible reply-to address.  I just don't understand why a replied message from one account would use another account to send the message.  Is there a setting to tell the mail app to reply with the same account?
Note that neither of these accounts are my default account.

  • IPhoto shared messages appear blank

If I use share from iPhoto, the recipient often times gets a lengthy blank message. It seems like it's waiting for the images to download, but they never show up.
    Are there any solutions?
    Thanks!
OS X and iPhoto fully up to date

So we know that it is not an iPhoto issue but an issue with the receiver
One thing to do is set Mail as the e-mail client in the iPhoto preferences and when you create the message under the Mail format menu set the format to plain text - this is the simplest type of email that works with the most systems

  • E-mail Messages are Blank

Sometimes, a message I send to another person via e-mail will show up on the recipient's system (phone or e-mail client, like Outlook) as blank or a bunch of characters.
    What could cause this?

Very difficult to say, without seeing it.
Have you seen those blank messages yourself or going on reports from the other person?
You'd need some detail, such as browser type, phone model, OS, etc etc.

  • Mail messages appear then disappear

    Hi All,
We have been having so strange issues lately with emails coming into users mail clients and then dissaperaing right away. We are running OS X 10.6.8 server as our primary mail and authentication server, as well as iChat and iCal. the server it self is running on a Mac Pro with 64GB of RAM, 2 Xeons, and 2TB Raid 1 on a raid card w/ cache enabled. This has just started recently and is now starting to affect business, so I need to find a solution to this. I have check in our mail logs and I am only seeing the emails that have been acctually delivered to the users, no record of the emails that have been disappering, the logging level is set at Information and all AV and spam filtering is disabled.I have also disabled Junk Mail Filtering on the client side which helped for a bit but dosen't any more. • All mail messages appear in ical work calendar

For some mysterious reason, all email messages I receive in Mail turn up as To Do items in my Work calendar in iCal. I tried turning off the iCal option 'Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail', but that makes no difference. Anybody any ideas as to what I can do to prevent this behaviour? Thanks.

I solved my own problem!  Go to Mail-> Perferences...-> Viewing and deselect "Include related messages"

  • Mail messages appear garbled in some parts of the text.

I carried out the upgrade this morning as it was suggested I do this.
Now at least some messages are appearing with garbled text BUT not the whole page.
when I say garbled I mean some text is overlapping other parts.
Looking at one particular message it appears as if the 'footer' is overlapping midway up the message.
I have a screen shot but how do I add it as a pictures saves a thousand words?
What is going on and how can I fix it please.

    A few remarks:
    - place the cfparam code lines out of the cfdocument tag;
    - remove the link tag from within cfdocument. The link tag
    may only appear in the head section of the page;
    - remove the cfoutput tag. It is apparently unnecessary;
    - remove the long comment lines <!------------ ...
-------------->. If you need to break the document up into
sections, use the cfdocumentsection tag. A previous thread contains
    an
example of using cfdocumentsection and cfdocumentitem tags for
    section and page flow.
added: You should consider installing the
    Coldfusion
MX 7 hotfixes if you haven't done so yet. One of the fixes is
    for cfdocument's text cut-off problems.

  • Mail Messages appear only as plain text

Somehow my default is set to view Mail in plain text. To see a message as it was formatted, I have to select View/Message/Next Alternative. I have to do this with every message, even those I've previously opened and went through the View/Message/Next Alternative selection.
How can I see messages as they were formatted without having to go through the menu routine each time?
    I'm using system 10.6.6.
