Mail messages are different to .mac

I'm not sure if I am being silly, but I use Apple Mail to access my .mac email account. Now what I seem to be noticing is that even though I delete messages or move them in mail, these changes don't seem to be being mirrored if I log on .mac and access through the web, am I missing something here?
Cheers
Nick

Hi,
Yes I have this option enable, but still the messages on .mac are different to those on mail. All messages I delete or move remain in the original folders on .mac, for example if i move a message from inbox into another folder, the message ends up in both folders, if i delete a message from my inbox on .mac it ends up in trash and still in the inbox....

  • My mail messages are blank after upgrading to OS X Mavericks. How do I fix this??

My mail messages are blank after upgrading to OS X Mavericks. How do I fix this??

Hi, I had this same problem. I have a load of work subfolders and was showing the message header but no content. I think it lost the link to the original messages.
There may be a simpler way but I fixed it by going to the mail folders in finder. I took the following steps:
Go to user library (hold down the alt key whilst clicking the Go menu in finder to access user library)
Go to user/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes. You should be able to see your mailboxes and your original messages (ending .emlx) after clicking down the hierachy in each mailbox. For some reason mail added a "-2" onto the end of each mailbox which I think has caused the problem.
Copy each required mailbox (.mbox) onto desktop. I removed the "-2" at this stage to clean things up.
    In Mail, choose File/Import Mailboxes....
Import data from: Apple Mail. Click continue, navigate to desktop and choose the relevant .mbox folders. Click Choose.
It should then import the mail to a new folder called import in mail. You can then rename that folder or move the subfolders out.
I moved the .mbox folders on my desktop to my documents folder as a backup just in case. I then deleted the problem mailboxes from the finders mailboxes folder.
Problem solved - for me anyway!!
    Hope this helps.

  • I need help exporting Apple Mail messages to Outlook for MAC 2011

    Good morning,
I need help exporting Apple Mail messages to Outlook for MAC 2011. Please....

It is possible to do this without external tools, but it is a tremendous faff. See
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macoutlook/import-ema il-from-mail-to-outlook-2011/5e858173-e1f4-4adc-99d7-253cc467169d?page=2 for details.
The easiest way, however, is to use Mail Exporter Pro https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mail-exporter-pro/id675131616?mt=12 which will convert the email for you from one format to the other, and comes with an excellent manual.
A third possibility is to connect Apple Mail to an email account via IMAP (this doesn’t have to be your usual account, you can just create a Gmail account for the purpose) . Copy all the messages into it and they will be uploaded. Then connect Outlook 2011 to the same account, via IMAP again, and let the messages download, then copy them to wherever you want to keep them and disconnect from that account. This is slow but preserves the attributes of your email (e.g. read/unead) better than any other method.

  • Conky new_mails not updating when local mail messages are read

Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask this, but I'm new.
I recently installed Arch Linux on my eeePC 1005HA laptop with dwm, conky, and postfix (I followed the wiki to install postfix to send local mail).  I'm using xsetroot to replace the "dwm-5.2" text in the upper right corner with conky-provided information about time, CPU usage, etc., and want to use it to see how many unread local mail messages are in my /var/mail/spool/USER spool.  Using ${new_mails} seems to be the way to go, but the value reported by ${new_mails} only ever increases when a message is sent to the spool, never decreasing when new messages are read or deleted until conky is restarted.  I'm only using the "mail" program to send and receive mail to the local spool for system notifications like "your battery is low, save things now".
I've seen other users use ${new_mails} apparently fine, but googling for this problem shows other people having a similar problem.  However, I haven't found any forum, wiki, or article about how to fix this without using messy workarounds, and the conky IRC channel didn't know how to fix this, though they've heard of similar problems with mutt.  Any ideas?

Bump!  I've tried reinstalling conky and postfix/mail, and not much seems to work.  Is conky passé now in favor of something else?

  • Mail messages are marked "junk" in the outgoing mail box

For some time all my outgoing email messages have been marked as "junk" in the sent mail box. Today found that if I do not mark my personal information in my address book as "Me" my sent messages are no longer marked "junk". Does anyone know how I can fix the problem so my personal information can be marked "Me"?
iMac intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
iMac intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The following procedure thoroughly gets rid of all the files used by the junk filter, so that Mail creates them anew, and should fix the problem in the cases where the simple procedure provided in my first post doesn’t:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
    3. Locate LSMMap2 and move it to the Trash. This file stores information about what does and doesn’t constitute junk, and allows the junk filter to learn. Deleting this file is what Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset does. The file was called LSMMap in early versions of Mail; delete that as well if you see it.
    4. Locate any MessageRules.plist (Mail 2.x) and/or MessageSorting.plist (Mail 1.x) files and move them to the Desktop. This is where Mail stores all the rules, including the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    5. Locate DefaultCounts and move it to the Trash. This file keeps statistics about the number of messages that have been marked as junk, either automatically by the junk filter or manually by the user.
    6. Look for the account folders. The name of each account folder starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server. Open each of the account folders, locate the Junk.mbox or Junk.imapmbox folder within it, and move it to the Trash if present.
    7. Go to ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/. Locate any Junk.mbox mailboxes there (their name may include the account name in parenthesis), and move them to the Trash.
Note: Steps 5, 6 and 7 may be unnecessary. Also, messages in Junk mailboxes with an .mbox suffix are stored locally and will be lost forever as a result of doing steps 6 and 7. If there is a chance that you have legit messages there that you want to preserve, either try skipping those steps, or move the messages to another mailbox in Mail first, or move Junk.mbox to the Desktop (to be imported back later) instead of to the Trash. Junk mailboxes with an .imapmbox suffix aren’t a concern because they are stored on the server and Mail would rebuild them automatically.
    8. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either tell Mail to go offline immediately after opening it, or shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail, to prevent it from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
    9. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk filtering, and configure it however you wish.
    10. Go online again if you went offline in step 8.
If the above solves the problem and you don’t have any rules you’d like to preserve or recreating them is not a daunting task, just trash the rules files that were moved to the Desktop and be done with it.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • In mail, messages are grouped into a subfile of the inbox

In mail, some messages are grouped from the inbox into a subfile of the inbox. How do I separate the messages to be part of inbox? How did they get into the subfile in the first place?

thanks for response. I am referring to inbox on ipad which shows list of messages. In the list of messages in the left column there is one message with a 4 in a shaded box. When I tap on that message, 4 other messages appear that are related responses. I prefer to have those 4 messages appear in the inbox. How did they get in the subfile and how do I get them to appear in the inbox?

Firefox doesn't do email, it's a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.

  • HELP!! All my INBOX & SENT mail messages are gone!!

    Help somebody help please...
my 17 inch powerbook is acting up... last week, i experienced problems with my applications... all the applications wouldn't start, so i reinstalled OS/X and backed up everything (thank god)
    worked fine for a while..
    then...
today when i open up my mail.. it was cool for a while..
.then all of a sudden... all the messages in my INBOX and SENTMAIL could not be read!!
all it said when i click on any message is..
"The message from fois design <[email protected]> concerning “Foi's Promo” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
we're talking about over 3000 messages in my inbox and 2000 over in my sent box. all displaying the same message!!
however the strange thing is, the messages in my JUNK and other archive folders are fine.. the messages are still displayed.
Has anyone ever experienced this? can someone help me please?

Beside your inbox and Sent folders (on the right side) is there a triangle?
If there is, click the triangle to go "online"
If it is not there, and you did have messages for awhile, I suggest trying the rebuild option if you haven't already done so. You can do that by click on Mailbox -> Rebuild
Alternatively (if this is an IMAP account), you could delete the account and re-add it.

  • Mail messages are constantly marked as "Unread"

On certain mail messages, I cannot get the message to remain as "Marked Read"  - the message continues to come to my Mac as "New".  I have tried deleting message, manually marking it as Read.  Nothing seems to work.  Please share any advice.

This stopped happening as mysteriously as it started for me. The only change made on my end is that I added some seemingly unrelated filter Rules - around the same time (i can't be entirely certain if it stopped before or after the Rule changes) the proble with sent messages being marked as unread stopped. I doubt that the Rules actually had a direct effect, though perhaps it altered the structure of memory enough to stop the bug from occurring (something which I've seen many times in my 40 years of programming).

  • How mail messages are sorted in Yosemite

I have noticed an unwelcome change in the way mail items are presented in OS X 10.10 Yosemite.  Before, when I had messages sorted by date received and wanted to change the view to sort by sender, I could highlight a message, change the "sort by" dropdown to "from" and the same message would be highlighted, along with all other messages from that sender.  Now, when I change the sort key to "from", it takes me to the beginning of the list.  How can I restore the prior functionality so that I can highlight a message, change the sort key to "from" and see all the messages from that sender in date order?
    Thank you.

    Justin
The sort by name in Yosemite mail is discussed here

    and here as well
Re: Yosemite has no sort by name in Mail App
And depending upon which response you read it is either a bug or a feature.

  • Mail messages are not visible

When I open a message in apple mail, the content does not show up. Just the to, From, Title etc. The body of the message is blank. I can sometimes quit mail and relaunch it and see the messages, but not always. It is not consistent with the same message. In other words some messages fail to be visible and then will be fine as others fail. In other words it is not link to any particular mail message, sender or mailbox.
I can see the first part of message in preview column, but opening the mail comes up white. Sometimes when I forward or reply I can see the string and have done that to read message.
Most of my business is done via email so an assistance would be helpful and appreciated.
Is there a way to rebuild a mailbox. I've tried exporting and reimporting the mailbox, but that did not work
    I am running a Yosemite 10,10,1 on a 13" MBP (mid 2010)

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Apple Mail - Two archives with same messages are different sizes

I have two different arhives, both with 2077 messages that I want to archive. But one is 1.03GB and the other is 700GB. I'm nervous as I need to back these up bu don't want to lose anything. Any ideas why the difference?

I can't start over as both are archives. Do you mean load up the messages and then export a new arhive. Obviously I could do that, and I should probably shoose the bigger arhive in case there is more "importnat" info, but still want to knwo what the difference is when both archives are the same size.

  • Mail Messages Are Wrong

When I click on an email message, the wrong message appears, one from long ago. Other people are having this problem, too. Any solutions?

Sorry -- got side tracked and then didn't get back to your topic.
The thing I would do next, would be either of the following:
    1) Create a New User Account and as that New User, set up this IMAP account. For New User Account, see: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
or 2) Remove the account (in the current User Account in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information, and then set it up again.
Either of these methods will determine whether a reindexing will result in the messages now displaying. If they do, then we can discuss what to do to have only one folder referencing Sent messages.

  • My voice mail messages are not appearing as they are left. Often no voicemails show up until 4 weeks after they have been left

I am having trouble with my voice mail on the iPhone. The voicemails are not appearing until 3 even 4 weeks after they are left by a caller. Last night 10 voice messages came through all at once, one left before Thanksgiving. Is this an iPhone issue or an issue with the carrier?

I'm having the same issue. It began three or four days ago. I'd notice that I'd miss a call but the person wouldn't leave a message.
Two days later, suddenly three or four new voicemails will pop up from the past couple of days. The time stamp on the messages is correct-- it will show that the caller left the vmail a day or two before.
Also, in what has to be a related problem, some of the voicemails appear to be corrupted and cannot be played.
I have a 4s and my software is up-to-date. I have made no material changes to my phone, other than automatic software updates to explain this.
It's enormously frustrating and as a job seeker, I can't afford to miss voicemails. Does anyone know if this is the phone or the carrier (AT&T)?
Any help and input will be enormously appreciated.
