Mail messages do not open with double click

Worked before, but lately Mail does not open my messages from the inbox with a double click.  Have to use the menu to open a message or read in preview pane.
Have checked for upgrades and reindexed the messages.
Mac OS 10.6.8

That sounds very like an issue with your mouse/trackpad and not iPhoto. Go to your SystemPreferences and chck the speed you've set for double clicking

  • Events will not open with double click/double click not working.

Have just upgraded to iPhoto'11 and finding it a pain to use after previous iPhoto.  Events will not open with double click (even though highlighted in yellow) and photos will not open with double click or videos play.  How can we fix this please?

  • Nothing will open with double click

Help! Our iMac seems to work OK, except that nothing will open with a double-click in Finder. It is not the mouse, which works fine. I rebuilt the directory with DiskWarrior, but that did not help. What is weird is that things do open with double-click soon after you reboot it. But after a day or so, it stops working. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Carlos

    Hi Carlos!
It maybe your Mouse or your Mouse Preferences are getting lost somewhere. What type of Mouse do your have? When you lose the ability to double click, can you still right click and see the menu dialog? If so, try to open your file this way, if nothing happens when you right click try the next step below...
You should check: System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Mouse... from here make sure you right (secondary) button is activated and double click speed is not too fast or slow.
Let us know, good luck, Rick

  • InDesign files won't open with double click

InDesign files won't open with double click on my MacPro with Snow Leopard although they do open from external hard drives when I double click.

Thank you very much, you were correct, it appears the mouse clicks were set too fast. Thank you very much indeed for taking the time to answer my question.

  • Photoshop CS2 will not open to double click in Snow Lepard

Since loading Snow Leopard I have been unable to open Photoshop files with a double click. Double clicking .psd file opens PS with the message "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file." Right click "open with" gets the same result. I CAN open files through the file menu in PS. But, files opened via the file menu and saved as... will not open with a double click.
The "Open with" in the file info window reads "Adobe Photoshop CS2". Even forcing it to open in Preview and then back to PS CS2, sort of like hitting it with a hammer, does not improve the situation.
CS2 on and year old dual quad.
Before you knee jerk a "CS2, what did you expect..." CS2 seems to work fine once open. And I have access to another brand new iMac 24" with CS2 and Snow Leopard that does not have this problem, files open with a double click.
On my troubled machine the thousands of files in question opened yesterday, pre Snow Leopard. I have found a few PS files that are several years old that do open to a double click.
    Thoughts?

In a partial answer to my own question...
I have discovered that the Adobe CS2 files (as well as Illustrator CS2, Microsoft Office X, Silo, etc.) will open with a double click in some cases.
Files on my main hard drive (Mac pro dual quad with four one terabyte hard drives, Snow Leopard 10.6.1) is a RAID made up of two of the internal terabyte hard drives will not open with a double clip. (They do open via the file menu in the given program).
But files on non-RAID drives open with a double click as expected.
It appears that the RAID drive (Apple software RAID) is the culprit.
It is likely that a simple fix from Apple in the operating system to correct the opening of files with a double click from an Apple sotware RAID drive would solve the problem as the various programs all work fine otherwise with Snow Leopard 10.6.1.

  • Why do Mail messages suddenly not open?

Does anyone else experience trouble opening email messages?

Without knowing anything else about your situation other than your email messages will not open, try this.
Quit the mail app completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that fails, a few more details would help.

  • Premiere Pro cs5.5 will not open after double-clicking icon

I have uninstalled and reinstalled from disk.  I double-click the icon and the opening screen begins and then closes down.  I've run windows update to make sure everything is up to date and it still will not open.  Any suggestions on what to do?

I don't think that is a graphics adapter, that is an I/O device... from what I have read
--Windows 7 click START and look on the right side
--Go to Windows Control Panel from START popup
--NOTE that I do not have Win8 so can't give instructions
--Click Hardware and Sound and then click Device Manager
--Click the + sign at Display Adapters
--Right click the display adapter and select Properties
The "usual" is some model of ATI/AMD or an nVidia adapter
    I have nVidia GTX285 with driver 296.10

  • Files not opening on double click (Gnome)

That is the problem im having.
Im using a virtual Arch (virtualbox) via RDP ... all the system is fine. The only thing not working is that whenever i double click on any document//picture/archive it does not open it's default app....
I dont think is something to do with the RDP protocol because if i open the mouse settings manager, where you have a small zone for testing the double click actions (the small bulb that lights on/off when you double click) the test shows that the system is actually detecting a double mouse click.............. is there any global settings, in gconf-editor, perhaps, where i can correct this?
    thank you!

    Solved: I had nautilus-elementary from archlinux.fr
    I did: pacman -Rd nautilus-elementary
    then:
    pacman -S nautilus
    All working again....

  • Files, icons, docs won't open with double click

Suddenly when I double click, nothing happens. I have to use keyboard commands to open files, icons, docs, folders, etc. Did I inadvertantly set something? I have a Mighty Mouse and this was never a problem before. Thanks
    Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Try cleaning your mouse:
Use a clean lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water. Wipe the ball and the surrounding area, making sure to rotate the ball itself to ensure complete coverage. If the scrolling feels rough or if the scroll ball isn't scrolling up, down, or side-to-side, hold the mouse upside-down and roll the ball vigorously while cleaning it to help dislodge any particles that may have collected on the internal hardware. You can also give it a good (but not too god) whack to dislodge stubborn particles.
Let us know if that helps,
    Miriam

  • Master pages won't open with double click

What am I missing? I've used Indesign for years. Have CS6 now. When I double click on a master page, it won't open. This happens with old documents and with new ones as well.
    Barb

I realized that I can't open anything with a double click, not just InDesign. In searching for an answer, I found an answer. When I installed a new mouse, I turned the speed on everything to high, fast, super speedy. When I slowed down the double click speed, I could open anything. Whew!
I solved the problem.  If you go to System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse and Trackpad -  You can set the speed of the double click to be much slower.

  • CS2 files won't open with double clicking

Not sure what's going on here but my InDesign CS2 files don't see the InDesign application as the default. I have right-clicked and gone to "Open with ..." but get this, InDesign CS2 isn't in the application list.
OK, so I Browse to the application - no problems there, but when I select InDesign.exe and click "OK" .... it still doesn't appear in the list.
The only thing I have done recently is uninstall our old version of InDesign CS which was no longer being used.
    Any ideas ? I'm stumped.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike - I ran a registry cleanup as you suggest - found a few problems as well ! However, no joy with the file association. InDesign still doesn't appear in the options list and when I browse to:
    Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS2\InDesign.exe
and select InDesign.exe, the application still doesn't appear in the list !
    Any other ideas ?

  • PDF file won't open with double click

    Mac OSX 10.6.8/Acrobat 10.1.3.
Suddenly pdf files won't open with a double click, I now have to open Acrobat and file>open.
Also, once they're open, they won't close by clicking the red close dot, I now have to go to file>close.
    Very frustrating!

Even reinstalling doesn't work with the standard Creative Suite installer. Except for the double-click bug, Acrobat doens't respond to dock-tasks either, like <right-mouse-click> on dock icon and select <quit>.
In this version of Acrobat, the repair function doen't seem to exist anymore. Sadly....
So the problem keeps existing, even with the laterst 10.1.4 version.

  • Folders on desktop won't open with double click

I have just purchased a Mac Pro running 10.9.5. I downloaded from disc (external drive) several folders to my desktop, but I cannot open them with a double click (or single click). I am using an LG IPS display. Does anyone know whats going on?

Thanks. This is something I didn't know about. However, I also was able to open folders using open from the file menu in finder. Either of these is helpful sometimes, but unfortunately, I have found that I have no double click function at all -  which I need for tool commands in a number of apps.
Apple support has advised me to buy a new mouse to see if the mouse is bad. So I guess I'll do that before I get any deeper into this. Thanks again.

  • Files & Programs won't open with double click

    Hello,
I'm not sure if this is a Snow Leopard problem or an iMac problem but it seems since I loaded Snow Leopard files and programs will not open if I double click on them, I have to right click then choose open. Does anyone know why this should happen.
    Many thanks if somebody knows.
