Mail messages take forever to send.

Simple messages, without attachments, html, etc. just sit there and the sending gear spins. My activity window shows a long stall in the activity bar before it begins sending. This just began happening yesterday. Me, or my provider? If me, please tell me what voodoo I need to employ to fix this. TIA.

Hi mj,
Most frequently this appears to be the result of not properly negotiating the DNS address automatically. For me, with Leopard, it was always a problem until I stumbled on providing the primary and secondary DNS Server addresses manually into the Modem, while for a good friend the need to do this did not immediately arise, but did later.
If you get the correct addresses from your ISP you may simply be able to enter them in Network Preference panes, but I accessed my Modem directly from the browser and entered them. It seems more logical to do that if using a router and multiple computers.
I think your provider changed something -- it may or may not get changed back. In the Activity window, what you should be seeing is a long time being used to connect and then a short time transmitting. You can test further by preparing two messages to send, then send the first one and as soon as it swooshes, send the second. If DNS, the second one should go almost immediately.

  • Mac Mail, it takes forever to send anything with an attachment.

On my IMac, if I attach anything to an email, it takes absolutely forever.  I can count the Kb at the bottom of the screen and then it craps out and I have to restart.  Is there a step that I missing that would help move these along?  It is so much slower than Outlook
    Thanks@!

Sounds like an anti virus issue (it usually is). Disable outgoing mail scanning as a first attempt.

  • Text messages take forever to send!

Got the phone about four days ago and my text messages are taking hours to send and receive. Phone calls work perfectly fine

        Kjacunski,
This is very strange behavior for any phone connected to our network, but we'll help get them sending and receiving much quicker! Which make/model phone do you have and what zip code are you in? Also, have you tried turning the phone off for at least 1 minute? Let us know and we'll be happy to continue trouble shooting!

  • Cannot get rid of mail message which failed to send

I am "stuck" with a MAIL message which failed to send and has returned: "cannot send message using the server smtp.gmail.com:...... ".
I cannot delete it since the "delete" radio button on the message in inactive, it's not in the outbox or in "drafts".
It's sitting there and even if MAIL is closed and relaunched or if the system is restarted it appears again.

There are five messages in my Outbox.mbox>Messages folder (suffix .emix) all dated today. Only one of them is from my .mac account, the rest from Verizon email accounts. When I sent the .mac email, it seemed to be sent, but a copy did not end up in my sent folder as it usually does, yet the others all did. I’ve closed and reopened Apple Mail as well as restarted my system (iMac) and they are still there. Why are those 5 emails in the Outbox.mbox>Messages folder? Nothing shows up in the “Outbox” in my Mail sidebar. And if they have not been sent, how do I send them?

  • Mail takes forever to send all of a sudden!

For some reason, my mail app is taking forever to send anything all of a sudden. Even smaller text-only emails take a couple minutes. I've tried ports 25 and 587 - no difference. Any thoughts?
Also I am upgrading from 1gb to 2gb RAM tomorrow - would that speed things up at all? (I don't imagine that it would...any thoughts?)

It could be that there is a problem with the particular outgoing server you’re using. Are this mail account and the associated outgoing (SMTP) server provided by your ISP or by someone else?
It could also be that there is something wrong with your network settings. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
Try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc and see whether that makes a difference.

  • Help WF: mail message takes long to get user's inbox

    Friends,
I have a task that sends an e-mail message. My workflow is all right, and the message to business workplace is fast, but the user says that this mail message didn't get his mail box.
I've already saw swel transaction but it's all right!
    thanks,
    Glauco

    Hi.
Do you mean SAP mails or internet mails?
If they are internet mails, maybe you must configure the job for sending this emails to run more times. It's the task on SCOT transaction.
If you mean the SAP mails maybe you can try to send the mails with the "urgent" option.
    thanks and regards

  • Iphone 4S takes FOREVER to send photo

I've been trying to send a photo, and its taking FOREVER, to send a shot I took with it's camera at full res, (about 2.8 megs).

Are you using 3G ofr Wifi? If it is over 3G then there might be a lot of network congestion slowing the upload of the image.

  • Mail takes FOREVER to send. Suggestions?

I had this problem since I got my Mac and 10.5.6. I've been using Thunderbird but would like to be able to use Mail for the integration with the rest of OS X, iLife. Thunderbird works as expected, sending and receiving.
Receiving is fine, but sending takes about 20 seconds or longer to send just a one word text (test) message. Setting are identical to Thunderbird.
I was hoping SL would fix this. Any ideas why it takes so long to send?
    Gene

    Gene,
Try going into your SMTP settings for your mail server (Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts).
Where it says Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), drop down that list, then choose "Edit SMTP Server List...".
Choose the correct outbound mail server, click on "Advanced", then click the radio button for "Use custom port:". Enter 25 in that box. (If that doesn't work, you might call you ISP and ask what port they're using for SMTP).
Save those changes, then see if you can send any faster. If I understand correctly, Apple implemented some sort of "round robin" type scheme for choosing which mail port to use if you have the default "Use default ports" setting selected.
    Hope this helps.

  • Software update September 9, 2014...photos in text messaging take forever to download

Ever since the update a couple of weeks ago, any time someone sends me a picture in a text message, it takes hours before it downloads to my phone.  I can see that it's there, it just won't come in fully for hours.  What gives?

Having same issue.  Pictures and long texts were taking up to 6 hours to download after update.  Reboot would pull them right in, but then it was back to delay with next message.  I cleared the app cache, then the system cache, no joy.  I turned wifi off, which I should NOT have to do, and no change.  I did a hard reset, and now it's better, but it's still not as fast as it was.  There are times when it's taking up to 10 minutes to download a long winded text, and it's taking longer to send texts - up to 3 minutes (for a 1-3 sentence text).
One thing I noticed is that my signal strength is fluctuating wildly, and I have a feeling that is the cause of this.  I can sit in one spot in my house and the signal strength will go from 5 bars to 1 and any where in between in a matter of seconds.  If the signal bars stay at 5 for a while, the texting seems to be fine.  But when the signal starts fluctuating the texting slows down drastically.

  • Text messages take long to send

My text message are taking a long time to send and many times do not send out or has an error, what is happening? I have service through AT&T for and iphone4S.

What is telling you that it takes a long time? Do you have a good cellular signal when trying to send a text. Text messages are controlled by the carrier. What troubleshooting have you done on the phone?

  • Unsent mail message keeps trying to send

I don't even remember which of my 4 accounts it is, or what was in it, and no outbox appears to delete the message. It's been trying to send the message for the better part of 2 weeks and failing every time. Unlike in regular Mail, it doesn't bring it up for me to edit, either. Are there any options for this other than wiping and restoring the mailboxes on my next sync?

Check your mailboxes for a folder called "Outgoing" - thats the one. You can open that folder and delete that email.
    enjoy your magic machine

  • Text messages taking FOREVER to send

I've had the LG G3 for almost four months and I've been having so many problems with this phone. I can send texts but it takes at least 30 minutes to send. And this phone is so slow. It constantly freezes on me and I don't have a lot of apps I only go on Facebook and instagram. If anyone has any info on how to fix my texts that would be awesome!

        drewfioswifey,
Oh no, sorry to hear your phone isn't working as it should be! Let's get these messages back in business. Are you using the native messaging application? Does this happen everywhere or just one specific location? What's your zip code?
    Please share additional details.

  • Text messages take forever to receive even with full reception

My iPhone 3G seems to be having a problem where I can be having a text conversation with someone, and out of the blue, I will stop receiving text messages from them. I will go to check the phone, and there's no message, so I unlock it and go to type another reply to the person I'm texting, and then after I type around three characters or so, all of a sudden I will get a text back from them, and then possibly another one asking me why I'm not replying...
I know for a fact that I have reception the whole time, because I was checking every minute or so. It would seem if I leave the phone unlocked, then I tend to get messages more frequently, but otherwise, it's becoming very unreliable on trusting my iPhone to actually receive messages straight away.
I am on iOS 4.0.1, and apart from this I've had only one other issue with it, but that was fixed by doing a restore. This issue seems to continue, however. Any suggestions on what to do?

  • Mail program takes forever writing changes and saving index

Over the past couple of weeks, my G3 PowerBook (recently loaded with OSX), when I go to the Mail program, has taken to spending up to a minute at a time Writing Changes to Disk and then Saving Index. Tonight it did it every time I sent a message or accessed a message. It's now impossibly slow, and I can't find any way to stop it doing this every few minutes or with every message. How do I make it stop, or do this less frequently - say, once a day? I only have 400 messages in my Inbox, so I don't think it's overloaded.

    Hi again
Select the mailbox you're are having problems with - you can find the Rebuild option under "Mailbox" from the menu at the top of the screen.
You can download a fully functional trial of Cocktail from here
    http://www.maintain.se/cocktail/
I should point out I don't work for Maintain or receive payment for recommending Cocktail to other users, it's just my favourite utility =0)
